Where you’ll be staying

SWYTHAMLEY

Leek 5 miles; Macclesfield 8 miles.

Swythamley, in the Peak District, is a farming community close to the River Dane, lying on the Staffordshire side of the river. Swythamley Hall stands in a fine park and was originally a medieval hunting lodge belonging to the Abbey of Dieulacres. Close to Swythamley is Gun Hill where Cromwell is believed to have located his canon aimed at the town of Leek. On the edge above Swythamley there is a famous landmark - the Hanging Stone, with a fine view over the surrounding countryside. Within easy reach are the Roaches for excellent walking and climbing, cycling trails and country houses. Alton Towers is 40 minutes away. The market towns of Leek and Ashbourne are a short drive away with their unusual antique shops, and the Spa town of Buxton is also an easy distance.
