  • "We had a 7 day stay here and it's a beautiful property."

    Perfect to relax and enjoy the scenery, especially from the rear of the house. Plus, the hot tub has been the best and the biggest one we've had, when on holiday. Plenty of room to stretch out, even with four people in it. Would certainly book The Sheiling again.

  • "The sheiling is a very nice, cosy and warm property overlooking Rudyard lake."

    The hot tub is fantastic and well maintained, a couple of reasons for not scoring 5 star is mainly the access from the top where you park the car down into the property, this is navigated by a steep downhill on a pea gravel path with few sleepers as steps there should be a picture of this on the Sykes site when viewing, I am sure some people will book this and arrive thinking I can't get in to the property. Secondly if you wish to cook yourself the kitchen had limited utensils. Overall a beautiful house just needs a tweak thank you.

  • "The Sheiling is a beautiful property."

    It is well equipped with everything you can think of, particularly in the kitchen, but also things like hairdryers and coat hangers, and towels for use outside. The furniture is comfortable and clean and the layout of the property is perfect and spacious. The house is down a single track road which is fine in daylight, slightly precarious arriving in the dark in Winter. I would suggest that the owners use what3words for the location/directions as well as the postcode, even though the directions given from that postcode were easy to follow. The owners/manager was super helpful and friendly but in no way intrusive. It was great to stay somewhere so high-end without having unnecessary rules to follow which we have experienced in other places and can make the stay uncomfortable - the Sheiling was the opposite of this. Would love to return again and highly recommend.

  • "A simply stunning place to stay."

    The views of the lake are incredible, even on rainy days. And on those rainy days there was nothing nicer than lighting the log burner and settling down with a good book. The house itself is gorgeous, finished to a high standard, with some lovely touches (thanks for the fizz). The hot tub was a fantastic bonus. I wish we'd booked for longer, just what was needed to recharge the batteries.

  • "The Sheiling absolutely lived up to our expectations, it is a beautiful property in a very special location."

    It was spotlessly clean on arrival and has been refurbished to a very high standard with high quality fittings in abundance, it is obvious that everything has been very carefully thought out. I must also add that the host was very helpful and very responsive when contacted (Many thanks Richard) overall a wonderful holiday was had by all and we definitely intend to return next year!

Park off-road and be welcomed by breath-taking lakeside views, entering into one of the two well-presented properties, both with characterful original features, a contemporary décor and opulent living spaces. Each has delightful bedrooms, sleek bathrooms, and charming, multi-level outdoor spaces where you can dine alfresco, take a dip in the hot tub, and enjoy a tipple with views across the lake. About the location

RUDYARD LAKE

Leek 4.5 miles.

Rudyard Lake lies in a thickly wooded hillside area of the Staffordshire Moorlands. The 2.5 mile-long lake, part of which is a conservation area, offers many activities including sailing, boating and fishing, as well as many lovely walks and cycle routes and is a haven for wildlife, flora and fauna. There is a small shop and cafe on the lake, as well as a steam railway, a sailing club which offers courses for all abilities, and a hotel with a friendly bar and restaurant. Just 4.5 miles away is the hillside market town of Leek, known as 'The Queen of the Moorlands'. Leek boasts numerous antique shops, real ale pubs, restaurants and a local park and leisure centre. The town’s cobbled market place has many examples of fine Victorian architecture influenced by William Morris, a reminder of when the town was a silk manufacturing centre. The Three Shire Head is close by, the meeting point of Cheshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire, as is Tatton Park, a beautiful historic estate with manor house, landscaped gardens, parkland, shops and a restaurant. Styal County Park and Gawswirth Hall are also well worth a visit, and Alton Towers and the beautiful Peak District National Park are just a short drive away.
