"This cottage is well appointed, cosy, warm, well equipped, and is a beautiful location."
The owner was very helpful and supportive, ensuring directions as the place is quite tricky to find. We would have give this a 5* rating (and full marks all way through) but the mattresses upstairs were uncomfortable (could feel springs in mattress) despite turning it over.
this was a replacement mattress 4 months ago. A topper has now been applied Property Owner

"Really clean well maintained property."
Very warm and cosy. Liked the barn style features and history of the place. The lower main oven temperature doesn't seem to heat up fully. Resulting in food taking longer to cook. Also may be helpful to notify guests that the hot water is limited. In the morning not enough hot water for 6 people to shower. Maybe notify guests not to keep shower running throughout. We'd like to thank the owner for their hospitality and delicious shortbread.
I wish you had asked about the cooker as I do live next door. There is a ‘fan only’ setting on the bottom oven in which there is no heat, the next setting is fan and heat. I have highlighted it in the cottage handbook as this has been misunderstood before. I did explain to the first arrival that the hot water can be advanced and extended as necessary and that these controls are under the stairs, this is also explained in the handbook. I’m sorry that this information wasn’t shared or more obvious to you. Property Owner

"The cottage was spotless with a very well equipped kitchen."
Gill, the very friendly and helpful owner had left home-made shortbread, milk, tea and coffee, which was very welcoming on our arrival. The beds in all three bedrooms were extremely comfortable, with beautifully soft bedding. Very good location with lovely views. Would have no hesitation recommending it, and would book again when we need to be in the area. Thanks Gill

"Our second stay at Golden Slack cottage was as good as the first - excellent."
Gorgeous cottage, gorgeous views, and Gill is a lovely host. A very good location for walkers, even though buying a paper or a pint of milk is a car drive away. We had a lovely week.
-
"The cottage is in a lovely situation."
Wonderful views. Lovely double shower with strong power shower. Really enjoyed that. Kitchen fully equipped. The bed was lumpy. I think a mattress topper or new mattress is needed. Very pleasant owner.
Thank you for the feedback. I wasn’t aware of the lumpy mattress especially as several people had said it was comfy. But I agree it is lumpy and a replacement mattress is now on order. It has now been replaced. Property Owner

"Golden Slack is a lovely place both inside the cottage itself and outside on the terrace where there are fabulous views snd sheep to admire too."
We were fortunate to have warmish, sunny and clear weather during our stay. That there are walks direct from the cottage was a real plus - the cottage is situated close to the Gritstone Way from where there are more fabulous views. Inside the cottage all was calm and comfort with everything being extremely clean and welcoming. The homemade shortbread biscuits were most appreciated. Thank you for a lovely stay.

"We have recently enjoyed a great stay at Golden Slack Cottage (staying as a couple) property was very clean and well presented throughout."
Great location and views too, walks from the doorstep onto the Gritstone trial. Kitchen was very vell equipped and worked well for us. Friendly and helpful host who greeted us shortly after arrival, home made shortbread was a treat, thanks. Cosy lounge area with log burner was perfect for winter evenings.Would definitely stay her again if we decide to come back to this area.

"The cottage was great, the listing and information provided was very accurate so all was as expected in terms of bathrooms, ground floor bedroom."
Lovely views and very good location. Cottage was very clean and well equipped, friendly host. Everything was excellent. Many thanks
-
"Fabulous property with beautiful views."
The owner was welcoming and friendly. The cottage was warm, cosy, well appointed. The information folders were extremely useful and even gave a historical background of the farm and surrounding area. The cottage is close to NT properties and is a great geocache area.
-
"The property was spotless, first class."
We Couldn’t fault it. Our host was very friendly and welcoming. We highly recommend the cottage to anyone. Thank you Janet & Roy.
-

Gill made us feel very welcome and we settled in from the moment we arrived. We would love to have stayed longer
-
"Lovely cottage in a great location with views for miles."
-
"Gorgeous cottage."
Fabulous views from same. Lovely walk on Gritstone Way beside cottage where you can see for miles. Scrummy homemade shortbread. Even in the rain the cottage would be cosy. Gill is a lovely host. Would love to go back next year if time and health allow. .
-
"Thoroughly enjoyed this cottage."
It was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Would definitely come again when staying in this area.
-
"A very comfortable cottage with an extensive range of kitchen equipment, all of good quality."
Far better than many cottages we have stayed in. Wonderful views with easy access to the Gritstone Trail from the cottage & a wealth of interesting walks a short car ride away. The owner Gill provided very accurate directions as the post code covers several farms in the area and was kind enough to allow our grandchildren to meet and hold some of her new born lambs. We very much appreciated her kindness as we knew she was in the midst of a very hectic lambing period on her farm. We hope to return and would happily recommend the cottage in such a beautiful and under-rated area.
-
"Immaculately clean cottage wich was spacious enough for six adults."
Good communication from the owner, who gave us a warm welcome. Excellent location on the edge of the Peak District, but also close to Macclesfield.
-
"Very accurate directions to the cottage and ample parking."
The owner offered a warm and friendly welcome. It was particularly cold weather but the cottage was toasty warm throughout our stay. Lovely clean and modern facilities and handy for local walks and quaint places to eat. We would highly recommend this accommodation.
-
"Lovely lady and delightful homemade biscuits."
Cottage in beautiful location and very well equipped. She was especially helpful ,after we had left, re 2 Jackets my daughter and husband had left behind. Thank you for a lovely holiday
-
"Golden Slack Cottage is a perfect place for a peaceful getaway."
The cottage is secluded but not too remote and the views are outstanding. Supermarkets will deliver if you don't want to go into town to shop. Gill was very welcoming, with the best homemade shortbread, but left us to our own devices unless we needed something. The weather wasn't great during our visit, so we didn't get out and walk much, but it is a perfect base for hiking. It's also perfect for lighting the woodburner and cosying up. There are games and puzzles, books and DVDs, or you can just sit with a glass of wine and gaze at the beauty around you.
-
"We had a very enjoyable stay at Golden Slack Cottage."
The views are spectacular. It is a very comfortable cottage and would definitely recommend it.
-
"A beautiful cozy cottage nestled on the side of a hill with amazing views."
The cottage was well equipped and furnished, very clean and warm. The cottage made a fabulous base for exploring the area and was thoroughly enjoyed by the four of us. The owner Dr Gill Plant was a lovely warm welcoming lady and on hand in case of any queries. Based on our experience we would certainly recommend Golden Slack cottage and would definitely stay there again if visiting the area.
-
"A nice little cottage with superbe views of the countryside while still very close to Macclesfield."
Many walks right from the doorstep and good pubs just minutes away. A great stay for our family! (A good range of activities for teeangers within 1 hour driving distance)
-
"Dr Plant (host) was very helpful and accomodating."
-
"This was our first family trip to England for our family of 6."
(my husband is originally from England but for the rest of us this was our very first time!) we traveled from Iowa and, wow, the cottage was absolutely perfect for us. Gill was a pleasure to work with and we absolutely loved the homemade shortbread and having tea, coffee, sugar, and milk available to us as soon as we got there was wonderful. The views here were spectacular and we loved hearing the sheep in the fields. We would absolutely stay at this cottage again!
-
"A well-appointed and comfortable cottage in a delightful setting."
The owner took the trouble to give advance information, particularly regarding access and traffic, which not all owners would think of.
-
"The cottage was fantastic, clean , warm , rustic and cosy ."
Every comfort you could imagine, even a jar of sweeties . Lovely to wake up to see the sheep and the beautiful views. Great walking territory. Many thanks to Gilly Really enjoyed it, hope to return again
-
"The views from Golden Slack are stunning."
There are lots of walks from the cottage and all provide beautiful views. The cottage is clean, tidy, and warm. We were very cozy and happy during our stay. Gill, the owner, was very hospitable and accommodating. She knew we had two little ones and made sure to have little books and games, a high chair, cot, and even a Christmas tree. Her shortbread was delicious, too! Thanks for a wonderful stay!
-
"Made very welcome, had a great stay."
Plenty of equipment and most comfortable. Area looks fantastic for walking and views beautiful. Would recommend.
-
"We were unlucky with the weather for the first week."
But the cottage was beautifully situated and we made memorable excursions to Lud's Church, The Roaches, Macclesfield Forest, Forest Chapel and Rudyard Lake.
-
"Host was lovely and very welcoming."
The house was beautiful and had amazing views. We all had a fantastic time.
-
"Five friends had a fabulous stay at Golden Slack Cottage in spite of the very mixed weather."
The cottage is cosy and comfortable with a lovely log burner . It is well equipped. The patio is a great place to sit and watch the antics of the sheep and lambs whilst drinking in the amazing views ( and whatever you have in your glass! ) It is a great base to explore the surrounding areas from . Our only comment would be for the need for a larger fridge which will soon be resolved with the proposed kitchen makeover . Thank you Gill for a great week.
-
"This is a lovely cottage with great views in a perfect position for exploring the western Peak District."
Gill is a wonderful host and has thought of everything you might need to make for a comfortable stay. We enjoyed seeing the newborn lambs and walks along the Gritstone trail which passes the back of the farmhouse. We look forward to returning sometime soon.
-
"A lovely cottage tucked away from the world on the edge of the Peak District."
Definitely a get away from it all place. Cottage was cozy with beautiful wood burning fire.
-
"We really enjoyed our break in this homely, comfortable cottage, with its amazing views."
The owner was very friendly and helpful and had thought of everything that was needed. Would thoroughly recommend Golden Slack cottage.
-
"What a glorious place to spend a few days, with great walks on the doorstep and amazing views from the hillsides."
Gill's shortbread is probably the best we have ever tasted, and in changeable weather we felt comfortable and cosy and well insulated from the elements at Golden Slack Cottage. The pubs in this area are terrific too, with unusually good food at The Ship, the Rose and Crown, and Sutton Hall, not to mention a wider range of well-kept real ales. The whole area deserves to be better known, as it has so much to offer for visitors, especially walkers.
-
"We had a wonderful stay at golden slack cottage,a beautiful little home away from home with incredible views."
Plenty to do in the area to keep busy, walks on the doorstep but nice enough to spend the whole weekend relaxing in the cottage or on the garden watching the sheep! Highly recommended.
-
"Such a cosy cottage and a beautiful location."
Very well equipped cottage. There was only one thing missing - a pair of marigolds! The weather was pretty bad but there are many places to visit in the area so it didn't matter. Little Morton Hall is not to be missed! On the rain free day we enjoyed walking in Macclesfield Forest and sampling good food in local pubs. Our landlady was very helpful and welcoming - there were even home made biscuits waiting for us. During our stay we were lucky to attend a concert at Gawsworth Hall with the Foden Brass Band and our favorite singer - Matthew Ford ( fresh from the Albert Hall proms).
-
"We have had a lovely stay at the golden slack cottage."
It’s a wonderful sited house with a stunning view. The owner is kind and helpfull. With a stay at this house you will be able to make lovely walks as well visiting beautifull places like buxton and leek. The house is well equiped with almost everything. Little notice: the cealing in the kitchen, bathroom groundfloor and bedroom groundfloor are beteren 1m80 and 2m high.
-
"Gill as a host was so accommodating and friendly."
The cottage was super cosy, extremely clean and was surrounded by beautiful views. Perfect place to escape the city life and have a group of friends around the fire. Definitely will be returning :)
-
"Magnificent views from this gorgeous cottage."
Comfortable and well equipped ... Gill seems to have thought of everything and so welcoming
-
"The cottage is lovely, quaint and had everything we needed."
The bonus was the views and awesome walks from the doorstep. Great location for a refreshing break away.
-
"Wonderful cottage ."
Access to some lovely walks. Gill was a perfect host . Enjoyed seeing her lambs - great wake up calls . Hope to return
-
"An unexpectedly warm Easter enabled us to enjoy the glorious views from the sunny terrace of this character cottage."
Gill was a wonderful host who has fitted out the house to a very high standard and the kitchen was particularly well equipped to cook for the full cottage occupancy, although we took Gill up on her recommendation of a number of great country pubs also. The superb views and general quiet enabled us all to escape from the hustle and bustle for a while (although Macclesfield is only a short drive for food shopping, railway station etc) and seeing some lambs born was a bonus! Some great walks direct from the cottage and lots more within a short drive. We had a really wonderful week and would thoroughly recommend the cottage. Thanks Gill!
-
"Gill the owner is an exceptional person - friendly, helpful and very approachable."
Her sense of cleanliness is 7 star! She makes the accomodation very much a home, everything is carefully thought of - underfloor heating.and well stocked kitchen. So thoughtful to have home made biscuits and milk in the fridge on arrival. Golden Slack Cottage is now the benchmark for me in future holiday accomodation. Kim

"Lovely cottage, very cosy and well equipped, the homemade shortbread was a nice touch."
The owner is hospitable and helpful. Great location to explore the Prak District. There are great views from the cottage and a walking path accessed from the back of the cottage.

The cottage is lovely and cozy and the owner was wonderful and helpful.
-
"Fantastic cottage with stunning views."
Gill was very friendly and helpful, and her dog was lovely.
-
"Lovely setting, found it very comfortable."
Good location for getting out and about although you need to be alert to find it - just look out for the radio mast opposite! We hope to come back next year
-
"A stunning location, totally rural yet easy access to main transport networks."
Very tastefully decorated cottage, extremely well equipped with gorgeous views from the windows and terrace. A very warm welcome from the owner but not at all intrusive given the cottage is on her farm. I stayed three nights for a family wedding nearby, the downstairs bedroom and shower plus two upstairs bedrooms and bathroom gave the flexibility I needed for a mixed age family. Icing on the cake- the flock of sheep with the new spring lambs right outside the front door.
-
"We used Golden Slack cottage as a meeting place for old pals from the north and the south of the country."
The fact that it is just 15 minutes from a main line station, whilst also being in a glorious and very wild location was very advantageous to us. Gill, the owner, was marvellous and our two visits to the lambing barn were highlights of the trip. We were snug, warm and had a good kitchen to cook in, but there are also excellent eating places within 5 minutes drive.......and I have not even mentioned Peak District which was bursting with early spring life. We would definitely recommend it.
-
"A lovely cottage in a beautiful area."
Gill was most welcoming, her shortbread are delicious, and she was very flexible throughout our stay. The kitchen is one of the best equipped on a holiday cottage Ive ever seen.
-
"We needed a cottage that would cater for all members of the family to enjoy Christmas together and have a ground floor bathroom."
Golden Slack cottage ticked all the boxes. It was bright and attractively decorated, everyone loved the underfloor heating and the wood burner stove. The open plan ground floor meant that everyone was together and no-one felt shut away in the kitchen preparing Christmas dinner. I was particularly impressed with the thought that had gone into providing all the little home-from-home extras like torches in the bedrooms, night lights on the landings, books, games and welcome pack of tea, coffee, milk and homemade shortbread. Finally I would like to thank Gill for her very warm welcome and hope to visit again at some point in the future as the Christmas break went far too quickly.

"Great cosy cottage, beautiful location and welcoming host"

Location and views excellent. The owner could not have been more friendly, helpful and welcoming.
-
"Excellent location, it takes 40 minutes from Manchester Airport but it has completely Peak District surrounded beautiful green scenery."
Showers splash a little weak, but water quality is amazingly good.
-
"Excellent base for touring Cheshire and Peak District ."
clean and well presented would definitely recommend.
-
"Great place to go for a great uk holiday."
Lots to do for an active holiday and many lovely places to visit and go to eat.
-
"The owner of the cottage, on whose farm the cottage is located, was very friendly and helpful."
The cottage is well-equipped and has spectacular views and is located very close to the Gritstone Trail which meant we could find good walking without using the car. Unfortunately, we had some poor (cold, wet and windy) weather and , on most evenings, we were not able, comfortably, to take advantage of sitting on the terrace enjoying the wonderful views and sunsets. Because of this we were aware and rather disappointed that the views could not be fully appreciated from inside the cottage - i.e. no patio doors or picture windows (possibly to preserve heat in the winter?)
