"The bathroom was quite dirty and I cleaned this before using, the plug in shower does not drain and so you end up standing in water, terrible for condensation as does not have proper ventilation, fridge not clean, food left in the oven, toaster does not hold a slice of bread (toaster too small), main plates are a dessert plate and so don’t hold a dinner."
Towels washed in very strong detergent so had to wash the before using. No where to dry clothes (terrible if a walker as we were), clothes horse but cottage was not warm. Heat did not come on as noted in book. The barn is in a stunning location and so peaceful.
Thank you for your feedback, we aim for our cottage to be a home away from home for all of our guests, as you can see we have received lots of really positive previous reviews from our other guests who enjoyed their holiday, and we are sorry you felt there were some issues during your stay. Please be aware we are always on hand to assist with any problems that may arise during your break, as we live onsite. Unfortunately as you did not make ourselves or Sykes aware of any problems within the cottage we were unable to rectify these at the time. Our cleaner has been with us for many years and always receives compliments on the high standard of her work, so was most disappointed to hear this feedback. We have inspected the bathroom including the drain and extractor fan and both are working as expected. We have now placed a sign in the bathroom advising guests to ensure that the fan is not turned off when using the shower. To reassure future guests, the fridge, oven and all areas of the kitchen are throughly cleaned between bookings. The cottage heating is controlled by a nest app, upon checking the history we can see the heating came on as expected to the temperature explained in the welcome book during your stay, it can also be controlled from within the cottage in between the schedule should you require. Had you of contacted us we would have happily provided further instructions on how to do this. We are glad to hear you enjoyed the location and peace and quiet. Property Owner

"Had a wonderful 3 night stay at the cottage, it's situated surrounded by fields so very private and blissfully quiet."
The cottage is beautifully appointed, immaculately clean and had everything we needed. Would definitely recommend to others and will be back again next time we are in the area.

We had a lovely comfortable stay at Barnfields, and will hopefully return, we thought it strange we would have like to have met the owners , we enjoyed seeing and exploring the Peak District, cheddleton flint mill was very interesting lived in cheddleton for 24 years until I moved away and never visited, so many interesting places and we had the nice weather which made it better

"Quirky cottage, very quiet , chairs outside to sit and enjoy the fresh air."
Bread, milk and eggs provided to start you off, which was a nice treat. Some saucepans need replacing as the non stick coatings almost disappeared . A small non stick milk pan would have been nice too.
Thank you very much for providing us with feedback. We have now replaced the saucepans for future guests. Thank you. Property Owner

"We enjoyed everything about our stay at the cottage and all the days out."
it was lovely and will look to book again . Thankyou for the hamper that was left for us . Very highly recommended place to stay didnt want to leave after the week .

"We had a good week walking although the local paths and stiles weren't up to much."
The very, very low ceilings made the attic bedrooms unbearably uncomfortable in the hot weather. Unfortunately for us the builders where working on the main house all week...annoying...not quite the peaceful holiday expected. The owner's apologised to us with a bottle of wine...but we do like quiet before we go out walking in a morning and after we get back...
Thank you for your feedback regarding the property. Unfortunately it is the local council responsibility to maintain footpath styles. As walkers ourselves our personal opinion having walked most of the local footpaths is they are no better or worse than any other part of the country we have walked in. Regarding the low ceilings as mentioned in previous responses to customer feedback this is clearly stated in the property description and we acknowledge the property maybe unsuitable for some. What one person will find to be quirky and cosy another may find the low ceilings unsuitable. Your stay also coincided with a confirmed heat wave which unfortunately we have no control. There are two electric fans available in the property within the wardrobe which are there for use in such weather. In terms of the builders this was unfortunate and a short term project. Building works are due to be completed in the next 4 weeks. We visited the property and asked whether the noise was disrupting as we had the ability to schedule certain works while you were out. You advised that it wasnât causing you any issues. We encourage all guests to speak to us with any issues and we can do our best to rectify them during your stay. Property Owner

"A beautiful cottage on a busy working farm."
The property was beautiful and clean. Would highly recommend people to stay at this place.
-
"The views were lovely, quite location, beds comfy pillows not so comfy some of the mugs and plates were chipped and frying pans have seen better days."
The ceilings in the bedrooms were too low for us, and the toilet downstairs too far away from one of the bedrooms if needed in the night.
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We do clearly state in the property description that there are low ceilings in the bedrooms due to the design of the building, which may be unsuitable for some guests and that we have one downstairs bathroom. We try our best to ensure that all crockery and cooking equipment is replaced as frequently as needed so apologise that some items must have not caught our attention. We provide our contact details within the cottage and had we have been made aware during your stay we could have replaced for you immediately as we carry spares. All damaged crockery and cooking equipment has now been replaced. We encourage all guests to contact us during their stay should they encounter any problems and we will do our best to rectify as soon as possible. Property Owner

Well placed for the Peaks and Potteries. We had an amazing week out with family and friends but always glad to return to the cottage
-
"A very comfortable cottage with everything we needed."
-
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your cottage."
It was clean, modern and had everything we needed to cater for ourselves. The kids loves the outdoor space and talking to your chickens on our walks. We were grateful for the little extra touches such as the fresh bread, eggs and milk and being able to access Netflix without hassle for the kids. In terms of location it was ideally suited for our day trip to Alton Towers. We are all ready planning our next trip and will not hesitate to return to your accommodation. We wanted to leave a review in the guest book but it was already full with lovely comments. Thank you again and we'll hopefully be back soon.

"We loved this property."
The only thing we found was that it was very easy to hear any noise in the kitchen from the bedroom. Probably not a problem for most people, but we had an autistic member of our party and he wakes early and likes to whoop! Hosts were great - really friendly, helpful and responsive, but not at all intrusive.
-
"We had a lost at at the Barnsfield cottage, the owner were very helpful and appreciated them taking time to explain and experience the Lambing in progress on the farm."
We hope to revisit Barnsfirld cottage in the near future and would definitely recommend staying here.
-
"We enjoyed our stay at Barnfields cottage which had good facilities & was well located for local activities."
-
"A stunning spacious barn conversion in a wonderful location."
The rooms are furnished beautifully and I couldn't recommend it highly enough. Perfect base for visiting nearby Alton Towers and the quite spectacular scenery of the peak district.
-
"Very peaceful location."
Spotless property.
-
"A comfortable barn in a quiet location."
Will definitely be staying again as we have family near by.
-
"We had an excellent little break at Barnfields & I'd happily recommend it to my friends."
Clean, neat & comfortable, are always a great start but the building also has charm & a little quirkiness. A huge, well equipped kitchen, a cozy lounge, a great shower & comfortable beds, everything we needed. The welcome pack of bread, milk & eggs was a lovely gesture, thank you. We had no issue with country smells & for the most part our stay was very peaceful. Normal, daytime noises, were never loud & as holidays are for exploring new places it really wouldn't have worried us what the neighbours did. The nearby market town of Leek was perfect for shopping as was Trentham shopping village (so much better than Stoke on Trent itself). The monkey gardens, also in Trentham, are small but brilliant, I'd urge everyone to visit.
-
"We received a warm welcome from the owners on the day of our arrival and fresh bread, milk and eggs."
We found the property to be very comfortable, we enjoyed our stay.
-
"What a brilliant little holiday."
Lovely accommodation and surroundings Our kids loved all the animals Thank you so much!
-
"Amazing cottage with every home comfort needed."
Great location for exploring the local area. We had a fantastic week away.
-
"Really enjoyed the layout of the barn and the flowers outside the front door."
The door to serperate the living from dining room meant we felt cosy in the living room in the evenings
-
"Cottage was brilliant."
Arrived to a very clean cottage, with wee welcome essentials. Hosts thought of us when was hot and stuffy and delivered some fans for use at night. Cottage is a fantastic central point for many a good family day out. It's also very remote so you can enjoy the peace and quiet of county living. Would definitely book again if down near Alton.

"This is a pleasant barn conversion, well equipped with everything you would need for a home away from home experience."
The quaint bedrooms with sloping ceilings were a challenge, but we eventually learned to negotiate them :O) However, this was not the idyllic escape we had envisioned after reading the previous reviews. We live next to a farm and understand necessary jobs must be performed, but the three consecutive days of muck spreading put a dampener on our visit. We could not open the doors and windows because of the smell, which in turn made the bedrooms extremely hot (with the radiators turned off) during the lovely weather we were having. So, sadly, we cut our stay short.
We are sorry to hear that you cut your planned visit short. The cottage is located in the the countryside surrounded by fields which gives it, its beautiful views and rural location. Unfortunately, the neighbouring farms are out of our control and as you have mentioned need to complete these tasks, occurring less than a handful of days per year. We are very sorry that this unfortunately happened to coincide with your stay and the nice weather. Property Owner

"Absolutely lovely place to stay."
..peaceful retreat with plenty space...within easy reach of the lovely Cheadle (shop local) and lots of other places..would definitely recommend

"Just home from a wonderful week away here."
Farmhouse has everything you need and is a home away from home! Couldn't give anything less than 5 stars. A welcome pack of eggs, milk, bread was gratefully welcome. Kettle went straight on for a cup of tea after our drive and arrival! Furnished to a very high standard, nice outdoor patio area that was south facing. Large driveway and grassy area too. The farmhouse is located at the end of the lane and gives you highest level of privacy and peace. Our children loved the horses, sheep and chickens nearby and enjoyed feeding the horses apples in particular. Located in such a peaceful, beautiful setting we would recommend to anyone of any age group. We did Alton Towers a few days, only a 10 minute drive away. Perfect coming back, putting the fire on and settling down for a cosy evening. A walk through the village takes you to a really good, new park for children too. We've had such a lovely holiday away and look forward to coming back very soon... Hopefully try it in the summer time!

"Ed and Lianne looked after us very well and were very kind , helpful and generous."
Anything we needed help with was sorted promptly. We loved our stay there and normally try different areas of the country but we will go back again. It is to be highly recommended if you like peace and quiet and the countryside with its wildlife.
-
"A beautiful, peaceful location looking on to green fields with sheep grazing."
We really appreciated the welcome pack of speciality eggs that we all enjoyed and having a fresh loaf of bread. Having the games available was great for the evening. Lots of walking from our doorstep to the woods. Easy access to shops, the Roaches, a local climbing spot. We even travelled to spend a day in Wales, 2 hours away. The owners answered any queries we had promptly. We would visit again as wanted to visit Alton Towers but couldn’t fit it in.
-
"Great location, owners seem very nice."
Attention to detail could be looked at, couple of light bulbs out, beds not king sized as expected however overall enjoyed the cottage and the location.
Thank you for your feedback. Apologies about the light bulbs. We would have replaced them immediately had we been made aware. They have been replaced now. The beds are doubles as stated in the description. Glad that you enjoyed you stay and hope to welcome you again. Many thanks. Property Owner

"The cottage was in a beautiful location - the location was in the midst of things with supermarkets near by but the cottage itself was set up a small lane and was part of the farm."
It was incredibly quiet except for a neighbouring little owl. The cottage was clean, well kept and fully equipped. The owners were absolutely lovely. We thoroughly enjoyed staying here and are planning to stay again.
-
"Throughly enjoyed the home comforts the holiday cottage provided."
Particularly great for us as it was incredibly baby friendly. Unfortunately our twins were unwell and all adventurous plans were aborted, however the farm animals on the doorstep was a bonus of enjoyment for us and the babies. Will definitely love to return soon. The owners and everyone around were incredibly helpful. Thank you Ed and Lianne!
-
"A beautiful let in a beautiful area."
The owners went an extra mile with the quality of the let and I would say my wife and I had a grand holiday that way exceeded expectations. We will not be forgetting this one!
-
"Thank you so much."
Not only was the Barn beautiful the hosts were amazing too. We cannot thank you enough. We got ready here for my wedding and had the most amazing time. The Barn is stunning.
-
"A really well equipped house, extremely clean with excellent outdoor space ideal for children."
-
"I was very pleased with the ease of booking and communication by Sykes Cottages."
The cottage itself was lovely and spacious where my boys and I felt very at home. My extended family (from Newcastle and Bracknell) visited us there and it was a comfy, cosy place for us all to meet up and spend time together. I'd definnately recommend both Sykes Cottages and the place we stayed.
-
"Great county and a convenient Base to explore the area!"
-
"Lovely location, easy to find."
Although you go through a housing estate to get to it, you felt like you were in a different place. So quiet and tranquil.
-
"Fantastic location and excellent place to stay, Lianne & Ed were extremely helpful and their 'welcome pack' was very much appreciated!"
-
"Beautiful cottage with great views and it's in a good location."
Very close to alton towers which was very good as we went for two days.
-
"The cottage was well equipped and very comfortable and positioned up a lane so was very quiet and peaceful."
Welcome basket from the owners. Lovely area to explore. Would definitely go back
-
"We had a good time at the cottage."
Nice atmosphere, Spacious Clean cottage.
-
"Perfect escape to the country!"
Beautiful cottage finished to a very high standard, the little messages were a lovely touch, very personal. Had all facilities for a family get away. Celebrated Father's Day and our daughter's 13th birthday. We visited Stoke city for a spot of shopping and visited Emma Bridgewater for a few treats!!! Only 15 mins from Alton towers which was the main reason we chose this cottage. Would recommend and visit again. Many thanks Ed & Lianne

"Fabulous break in this beautifu barn converted cottage, very clean, well presented and in a quiet area."
The owners are on hand to help in anyway possible and even allowed us to meet a new born lamb on the farm. Fantastic holiday, we will return.

"What a beautiful, cosy country cottage."
Well appointed and decorated, the cottage is deceptively spacious. It has a big kitchen diner, nice outside space and pleasant walks right on the doorstep. The cottage is well positioned to get to local attractions. The owners were great and very accommodating. We will be booking again.
