  • "Monsal Dale is a lovely apartment."

Great location in centre of Ashbourne but that also comes with negatives. Positives: Big comfy bed, choice of TV channels to access, lovely decor and nice and warm. Location good for accessing local amenities. Nice park a short walk away for dog walking. Excellent pub next door. Negatives: Be prepared for traffic noise from big lorries travelling through town between 0630 and 2200. Would benefit from a few more utensils in the kitchen (tongs, potato masher and oven gloves). No welcome pack with some basics for when you arrive.

  • "Can only echo other reviews."

The apartment was well laid out and equipped (In fact they undersold it slightly by omitting to mention there was a washing machine). However, the stay was spoilt by the incredible amount of noise from the road below. It seemed like everything and anything went past the window as it was the main route through the town. The double glazing was ineffective due to the windows being ‘sash’ (probably due to planning issues) but we could only wonder why greater attempts weren’t made to remedy this with some form of secondary glazing / sound insulation as part of the refurbishment programme. We resorted to ear plugs to ease things slightly and managed to enjoy the stay in spite of the issue but could not, in all honesty, recommend the property over others due to the noise issues.

  • "The apartment is very nice and well decorated, and has a great central location to explore Ashbourne and the surrounding areas."

Unfortunately this also has a major drawback as the noise from the busy road outside is horrendous. We could hear every motorbike and car go pass, and then with some of the larger lorries that go pass very regularly, the noise reverberates and you can literally feel it! There are further issues with the noise and especially late night deliveries to the local businesses, we do understand the requirements and logistics of this with it being a busy one way system but the deliveries between 2-3am were hard to take. We ended up investing in ear plugs from the local boots store to try and get a decent night's sleep. It is a shame that this is the case, as the apartment is lovely, and decorated well as mentioned We also loved Ashbourne and would love to visit again but it would not be at this property.

  • "Although the apartment looked nice, we were extremely disappointed in some aspects."

First upon entering, it was freezing as no heating was on, it took most of the evening to get to a decent temperature. While unpacking we found a dirty towel stuffed in a bedside draw, and had to wash most kitchen items before use. The extractor fan didn’t work efficiently so cooking was extremely difficult as the kitchen would fill with either steam or smoking and we risked setting the fire alarm off. The biggest disappointment was noise. The windows despite being double glazed provided no protection from sound at all. While trying to watch tv, the sound of traffic drowned out the volume and made it impossible, if being considerate to our neighbours to watch anything. The amount of traffic going through the town at night was enormous. Consequently sleep was broken every night with the sound of deliveries being drag around on trollies, Lorrie’s bumping along the bad roads, conversations of people walking in the street etc. it was an absolute nightmare. I would not stay in this cottage again!

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sincerely sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations and wish to address the points you raised. We will be discussing the issues regarding the towel and kitchen equipment with our cleaning team, as this is not something we have experienced before, and we are confident it will not happen again. We take cleanliness very seriously and will ensure this matter is resolved. Regarding the extractor fan, we were surprised to hear of any issues as all of our facilities, including the fan, are just a few months old. Nevertheless, we will have this checked as a matter of urgency to ensure there are no underlying problems. As for the noise, we truly appreciate your comments. While we understand it may have caused some disruption during your stay, being located in the heart of town does mean the area can sometimes be more lively. That said, we’ll certainly look into ways to mitigate this for future guests. Once again, thank you for your valuable feedback. We will use it to make improvements where needed and hope that despite these inconveniences, you enjoyed some aspects of your stay. Best regards, Michelle Ashbourne Luxury Suites Property Owner

About the location

ASHBOURNE

Matlock 15.7 miles; Bakewell 16.6 miles; Chatsworth 20.4 miles.

Lying at the southern end of the Peak District, Ashbourne is a perfect example of an English market town - market place with stalls, eccentric street plan, narrow cobbled alleys, coaching inns and almshouses. In its heyday in the 18th-century, the town was a fashionable social centre, and many fine Georgian buildings remain from this period. Today the town still has much to offer in terms of restaurants and inns and is regarded as something of a haven for antique hunters - but don’t expect a bargain! For those who prefer more outdoor pursuits, the Dove and Manifold Valleys are close by and for thrill seekers Alton Towers with its exciting collecting of rides and attractions is just a short drive away.
