  • "We really enjoyed our stay , lovely and cosy ."

Could do with some larger bowls for serving pasta in . It was nice that you left logs but there wasnt any kindling to start the fire off

Many thanks Alison. I’m glad you enjoyed your stay and we will certainly add in some larger bowls. I’m sorry there was no kindling. This was an oversight and we’ll put that right. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was lovely, the situation was delightful."

The area has a great deal to offer and we enjoyed it all. The low scores are because insufficient consideration had been given to the fact that we were staying two weeks, in mid October. There was just one set of towels and one set of bedding, and a summer-weight. We had two nights of sub-zero temperatures. The house itself was warm, and there were blankets available, but this was insufficient provision for the season and the length of stay. It is not easy to wash towels and linen and get it dry in a day in October. Also, the garden room was part of the let, but couldn't be used because the heating was unavailable. The plug and switch had been taped over. The cottage was superficially clean when we arrived, but we had to sweep up crumbs from the kitchen floor, the hob had a thin film of grease on it, and when we put down our dog's bed, it stuck to the floor where something sticky had been spilled and not wiped up. This is not a high enough standard of cleanliness. Neither were there any cleaning materials except washing up liquid, with one J-cloth and one small sponge scourer. This was a walking holiday. We took baths. I had to clean the bath with the Carex handwash, and we bought more cloths and scourers. Dogs are accommodated at the property, for which we were grateful, and we brought all our own dog-feeding and sleeping equipment. Unfortunately, the vacuum was poor. We used it most days, but the suction was pathetic and it's held together by tape. There was a prohibition notice that dogs are not allowed on the furniture or upstairs. This is fair enough, but the stairs are open plan to the living room, and the two bedroom doors do not have functioning handles, they push open easily. We have a collie, with a good command of English, so we were able to explain the rules and he kept them, but many dogs would just rush straight up the stairs and push open a bedroom door. There were also health and safety issues. We were unable to find, anywhere in the cottage, a phone number we could call if there was any kind of problem or enquiry. There was also no list of helpful local numbers, such as doctor, vet, etc. More seriously, the light for the stair well is outside the bedrooms, but the switch is at the top of the stairs on the far side, so you have to grope in the dark, leaning over the stairs. to switch it on. This is dangerous, and could easily be solved by having a plug-in night light, very low level, at the top of the stairs where there is a plug socket. We used the wardrobe in the spare bedroom, because the wardrobe in the main bedroom has two doors, one of which bangs against the ceiling whenever you open it. Door knobs seem to be a problem at the cottage, and the one on the wardrobe in the spare room has a protruding screw on the inside of the door. Whenever you open the door, it falls closed again, and this protruding screw digs into you and catches on your clothes. We enjoyed our two weeks because the village and the area are so wonderful. We would not, however, go back to this cottage, nor book with this company again.

  • "The cottage is lovely and felt homely."

It would have been nice to have some condiments ie salt, pepper and vinegar but we managed without. The garden is much smaller than the photos show and could do with a little tending, as could the summer house which we didn’t use.The bed and bedding were lovely and clean but the bed could do with a larger duvet as was a little small for the size of bed. On a serious note there really does need to be a sign above the bathroom door when entering to inform of the low height as my husband is 6’2” hurt his head. I always like to leave a property as I find it but struggled to do so as no basic cleaning items were provided An anti bacterial spray would have been enough All in all we did enjoy our stay.

The location was beautiful and recommend the Ashford Arms for stunning food. There were 3 adults and we all had an amazing time. The small garden at the back was ideal for our small dog and the summer house just added another angle. Would certainly go back to Bobbin Cottage.

  • "Bobbin Cottage is a beautifully renovated old building."

There is everything there you need for a break in the Peak District for up to 3 people. I personally found the stairs hard work (arthritis) and missed being able to park right outside. Younger, fitter people would have no problems there.

Many thanks for your feedback Philip. We're always keen to improve things based on our guests' feedback. Unfortunately the stairs isn't something we can do much about but I hope they didn't cause too much pain. Fennel Street usually has somewhere to park that is within 10 - 50 yards of the front door and has a car park just around the back by the park if all else fails and that's only 50 yards around the corner too. I hope you didn't have to park too far away. Best wishes. Tim Property Owner

  • "Bobbin cottage was a very cosy, comfortable and immaculately maintained home."

All the facilities required, towels, tea, coffee, biscuits too. The shower was lovely and the heating in the cottage very efficient. The accommodation is ideally situated for exploring Bakewell and the surrounding trails. Lovely pubs nearby too. The Anchor up at Tideswell was particularly nice and the local Bulls Head serves good food in a very friendly environment. The cottage is pet friendly and we managed to obey the rules but I would say I'm not sure how it is completely possible to stop a dog going up the stairs! Doors to bedrooms can be kept shut but anyone with an over active dog could spend much time trying to stop their four legged friend from venturing into forbidden territory. Of course responsible dog owners should clean the dog up before entering the premises and perhaps a big throw for a seat would mean a comfy chair could be had too without the dog ruining the furniture. We are house proud and understand the issues but if accommodation is dog friendly the rules could be less restrictive and rely on the resident to use their common sense (perhaps therein lies the problem!!). Great stay and would return.

The location was amazing with walks to Bakewell and the Monsal Trail at your doorstep and very central for anywhere else you wish to go. The cottage was lovely, very clean and check in/out was very smooth. The only query we had was the recycling rubbish had been left in the back garden, with bin day the previous day of our arrival, but this was collected promptly by the property manager, resolving the issue very easily. The facilities within the cottage were very good, even providing oil/salt & pepper, wood & fire lighters etc, perfect for self-catering! The only thing we didn't have was hand towels/tea towels which would have been useful. We had a lovely time here, and would definitely recommend.
