  • "Great place to stay, lovely cottage, even though it's next to the graveyard you don't notice it much because of the beautiful garden."

I wouldn't let yourself be put off by that. As this is next to the road, the traffic was more noticeable than the graveyard, even though that is not too much. Sat out there a few times in the sun. Great walk from the cottage down the tree lined road. Lots of places to visit. Places to visit, in the file could do with updating as the prices and timetables are from 2021 / 2022. I would advise not to use the food bin, as when I used it and tried to empty into the outside bin as requested, the outside bin was full and black, didn't look like it had been emptied at all. Not very nice to see. The contact with Gillian was always prompt and helpful. Thank you for your help.

  • "Fantastic week - house is wonderful."

Owners are very helpful (even with a car Tyre change) and can't thank them enough. Nice and quiet location, big garden and hot tub was added bonus which the kids loved on Christmas day. Would look to come back for sure. Thanks

  • "Cottage and it's location is very good."

It was clean and well presented. Central heating of the house is controlled by the house owner and they have limited the higher temperature at 18 degrees. With kids it was very challenging and we struggled with cold specially at night. To save energy owner should upgrade house with double glazing windows instead of too much controlling central heating.

Thank you for your Feedback, we can advise that the heating can go up to 22 degrees and we cannot install Double Glazing as it is a listed building. Property Owner

  • "The big problem was that no directions to the property were given, relying on client to use sat nav is useless for those that prefer a written local route."

,Google maps was useless Apple maps ok, but the best route via A50/515 not chosen but complex way on unfamiliar local roads please revert to local route in writing

  • "Great cottage in a great site to enjoy local sights and to visit the Peak District."

The large hot tub is a pleasure. The cemetery next door is not made very clear in the advertisement. Would we have come if we knew about the cemetery? Probably not.

  • "Lovely lodge, lovely area and lovely lovely hot tub!"

!! It’s a great base for Alton Towers but tucked away in the heart of the country where nature and the rural way of life surrounds you. The garden was just wonderful - we are already missing it - and the peace and quiet was just so welcome. The housekeepers went out of their way to look after us and despite the necessary restrictions to keep us all safe, we were given whatever we needed (even a box of logs for marshmallows on our BBQ fire-pit!). Thanks for a super week in South Lodge!

  • "We (family of 4 with 5 and 7 year olds) had a lovely stay at South Lodge Cottage."

Communication with the hosts before and during the stay was excellent, and the homemade cake on arrival was delicious (although we didn't manage to finish it all!!). The cottage itself was very clean and was actually more spacious than we thought it would be. It was very well equipped with everything we needed for a three night stay. Smart TV was useful for catching up with Netflix with a glass of wine once the kids were in bed! Good central heating system which kept us nice and cosy, as well as on demand hot water. Great location too. We visted Dovedale, Derby, Sudbury Hall as well as going slightly further out towards Castleton. Unfortunately, we visited during Storm Dennis, so we couldn't make the most of the beautiful garden although our boys still had a run around out there and looked for fish in the pond. I imagine it would be fantastic on a warm summers day. I would highly recommend this cottage! Thank you for a lovely stay.

About the location

ASHBOURNE

Matlock 15.7 miles; Bakewell 16.6 miles; Chatsworth 20.4 miles.

Lying at the southern end of the Peak District, Ashbourne is a perfect example of an English market town - market place with stalls, eccentric street plan, narrow cobbled alleys, coaching inns and almshouses. In its heyday in the 18th century, the town was a fashionable social centre and many fine Georgian buildings remain from this period. Today the town still has much to offer in terms of restaurants and inns and is regarded as something of a haven for antique hunters - but don’t expect a bargain! For those who prefer more outdoor pursuits, the Dove and Manifold Valleys are close by. Alton Towers is just 20 minutes away.
