"Really great cottage to stay at."
Ideally located in the centre of the village and close by multiple walking routes. Would definitely look to book this cottage again to stay in this area!
-
"Lovely modern decor for an older building."
A previous visitor said it needed TLC but we found it to be clean, kitchen facilities excellent with modern fitted units. Carpeted areas clean with no stains. Comfy beds.
-
"The cottage was beautiful and in a great location."
The cottage catered for all our needs and the owner/ owners have thought of everything to make the stay enjoyable. The goodies left for us were a very nice touch and much appreciated. I would definitely recommend this cottage to friends.
Thank you so much for you great feedback Property Owner

"We had a fantastic stay at River cottage, which is beautiful, extremely comfortable and very well equipped."
Communication with the owners was easy and they were friendly and thoughtful. Highly recommended - we didn’t want to leave! Thank you for a wonderful weekend.
-
"This property was absolutely first class."
Right in the centre of the lovely village of Hayfield. Plenty of pubs, shops etc on your doorstep. We had a wonderful stay despite the weather. Can't wait to return.
Thank you - glad you had a nice time - look forward to seeing you again. Property Owner
-
"Absolutely beautiful cottage in a lovely friendly village- the house was better than we thought and such lovely little gifts left for us."
We had 8 adults and the house was plenty big enough for us all ( although we did have to draw lots for the bedrooms!) stunning location and so nice to sit outside listening to the river. Would highly recommend.
Thank you very much for your feedback Property Owner

"Fantastic and beautiful cottage in a perfect location!"
The house is really well maintained and is immaculate (especially for a building by a river that no doubt must struggle with damp). The bedrooms are all a good size and all beds are very comfortable. The location is perfect right in the centre of the village with 2 shops, a butchers, a few takeaways, cafes and pubs (the Packhorse is spectacular!) within a 1-2 min walk! We were two families of 3 and really enjoyed our stay - would very happily recommend and come back any time we were in the area! Only “shortcoming” (if any had to be listed) is that there is no allocated parking but it’s really not an issue as there are car parking options on the street or nearby.
Thank you for your feedback - I am glad you enjoyed your stay Property Owner

"We really loved our stay at River Cottage in Hayfield."
The accommodation was even better than in the photos. Very spacious. We stayed with 5 adults and two little girls and would definately recommend this place. Plenty of things to do. We actually hiked the Hayfield to Kinder Scout Circular Walk. Very challenging but doable for two novices. Plenty of towns and cities to visit...... especially the Emma Bridgewater factory in Stoke-on-Trent

"This was my second visit to the cottage staying for a week this time."
The accommodation was fantastic as all the little extras such as tea, coffee milk and a bottle of fiz. There are dishwasher tabs and washing pods if you need them. The owners will help you with anything you need , lovely couple. The village is so friendly we enjoyed quiz night at the Pack horse and an amazing Sunday lunch at the Sportsman. There are so many places to visit and walks to do. We will be back next year absolutely love Riverside cottage.
-
"Beautiful cottage set in a lovely location."
Facilities were great, beds were comfy - could have done with extra bathroom as there were 8 adults . Hayfield lovely with some great cafes and pubs, perfect location for walks
-
"The property is lovely and the position next to the river is gorgeous."
It was still large enough when fully occupied by 8 adults, however in the top floor twin the ceiling was too low for any of the men in our party. The location is great for all village amenities and is brilliant for local walks. It is worth pointing out that the church is very close. The bells ring 4 times an hour at night as well so I would not recommend this cottage to anyone who is a light sleeper.
-
"Beautiful cottage in an amazing location."
Lots of local amenities with options for food/drink and cafe stops.
-
"A beautiful cottage in a fantastic location - well kitted, spotlessly clean and with great walks right on the doorstep."
We particularly enjoyed sitting out on the patio area next to the river in the evenings. One of the village pubs (The Royal Hotel) is sadly closed at the moment but their car park is being used by the community and was very convenient for the cottage. We did lots of walking and the local pubs were always welcoming, despite our dirty hiking boots. We had lovely food at Colosseo and Sett Valley Cafe and enjoyed the pub quiz at The Pack Horse. Our group of six had a great week at River Cottage and would highly recommend it.
-
"We had a very special family time at River Cottage."
We were blessed by the weather and enjoyed the sunshine on the patio area. The children enjoyed feeding the ducks and visiting the excellent nearby playground. It was useful to have nearby shops including the butchers and the cricket fans among us were very impressed with all the activity at the nearby cricket ground. We also enjoyed two excellent walks that were manageable with the two year olds in backpacks. The Sportsman and The Packhorse and the Italian all enjoyed our custom. The house was full of character and had everything we needed and was comfortable and clean. We had no issues with parking which had been a slight concern.
-
"We had a great friends stay."
lovely location beautiful house. Great walks and a few little coffee shops. Only negative which is nothing to do with the house is the chimes from the church every 15 minutes even during the night.
-
"We had a fabulous weekend at River Cottage."
It was spotlessly clean and had lovely touches with bubbly in the fridge and food to feed the ducks. We spent a lot of time sat out on the patio next to the river. We would certainly recommend River Cottage.
-
"The property was absolutely fantastic."
So well equipped and such a beautiful location by the river. We really appreciated the owner providing a high chair, cot and stair gate for us too. We loved our stayed and would definitely recommend. The perfect place.
-
"Fabulous cottage in a great location, plenty walks from the doorstep and enough good local pubs and restaurants to enjoy afterwards."
Pity we didn’t get better weather to enjoy the patio area by the river but maybe next time
-
"What a beautiful property."
We stayed for my 60th Birthday with my family. The property was perfect with plenty room for my one year old granddaughter to play. It has everything you need for a very relaxing stay. Hayfield is simply delightful - 3 cafes, 3 pubs and a fish & chip shop & walks for all abilities straight from the door step . Hopefully we will come back soon . We would definitely recommend a stay here. Thank you .
-
"River Cottage was the perfect location for our weekend away."
The house was beautiful, super comfy and very well equipped. The small extra details (milk and fizz in the fridge, nice coffee and flowers) made us feel really welcome. We would highly recommend River Cottage and hopefully we’ll be back in the future.
-
"We had the most comfortable and welcoming stay at River Cottage."
The open fireplace, the patio beside the river, the comfortable beds and the authenticity of the cottage were all well above our expectations. Only a short distance from a shop, a chippy, the bus into New Mills and beyond… and a perfect base from which to climb Kinder Scout, Mam Tor and much more. Our family (with our 7 children) all loved this cottage so much. We hope to return!
-
"We had a beautiful stay at River Cottage for a girls weekend away."
The location of the house is superb right on the river, and nestled in the village of Hayfield. The house itself was modern, clean and had everything we needed for our weekend away. Thank you for a lovely stay, we’d absolutely book again.
-
"It is a very good place for family gathering."
We are a party of seven, we need a good kitchen for cooking meals. Very happy with the kitchen. It is equipped with a big cooker with six hobs and two ovens ( one big, one small), and good pots and pans, making cooking easy. The place is warm and comfortable. It is surrounded by beautiful nature. We had lovely walks nearby. Highly recommend.
-
"Love this cottage so much we keep coming back to stay, it has everything you need for a relaxing holiday"
-
"Excellent Cottage."
The grandchildren loved the river and feeding the ducks. Plenty of room and well presented. The owners were very kind and made us welcome. Highley recommended.
-
"It is an amazing place to stay, at the heart of plenty of walks, but such a peaceful relaxing place to return to."
The property had every convenience that we could have needed. We stayed as a family of 9 but there was still room to relax. There were several places to eat within walking distance if you wish to explore. I cannot recommend this property enough.
-
"We had a fantastic stay at River cottage."
upon arrival the place was immaculate and all we needed was there. The owners even put milk and a bottle of bubbly in the fridge which was very much appreciated. The cottage overlooks a beautiful river where we got very attached to the ducks who like to be fed on a regular basis We had as fantstic stay and will defintely return one day. Thank you River cottage and please remember to feed the ducks.
-
"A really wonderful stay - we all loved the location and the house."
It is very clean, comfortable and well appointed. Thanks so much, we will be back!
Thank you Property Owner
-
"The house was beautifully decorated and had every convenience."
-we didn't cook much but the kitchen was fully equipped and had a huge stove and oven. The weather was unusually warm so we were a bit hot on the top floor; however, the owners very kindly provided us with a fan to help aleviate the heat. The grandchildren had a great time feeding the ducks on the river and in the playground just a little further along upstream. We didn't do much hiking but it is the ideal place for those wanting to get in some serious walking and then relax back at the house.
Thank you Property Owner

"The cottage was lovely and clean and cosy, comfortable beds, lovely hot showers well equipped with everything you needed."
Really disappointed with the village itself. Monday and Tuesday was like a ghost town nothing was open. The Royal Hotel had no chef so couldn't get anything to eat, the George Hotel was close for refurbishment, The Pack Horse Inn didn't open until Wednesday, most of the smaller shops were closed just the village store was open even the local chippy didn't open until Thursday, if this happens on a regular basis it would be useful to mention at the time of booking. I think it would be a good idea to provide a local map of the village and surrounding area letting guest know what amenities were close by and a bus time table would be good for those without a car so other areas could be visited. The cottage would be great for walkers and cyclist and those that love the outdoors. When booking the advert said the village had lots of pubs ,restaurants and cafes for tourist that's great if these facilities were open and to top it all it rained most of the week so we couldn't even sit outside next to the river as this was one of the main reasons we booked(not your fault you cant help the weather) lovely cottage unfortunately the village let us down hence we will not be returning.
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry you were very unfortunate that week as the George was in the process of changing management and the Royal had two chiefs off with Covid. The other four pubs do shut on Monday and Tuesday. Property Owner

"Awesome property."
Great location. Going to sleep and waking to the sound of the river was lovely. Many, many little extra touches that made it exta special, Prosecco, duck food etc. Quality bedding and towels. It felt like home straight away and we were sad to leave. Listing was exactly as described.
-
"Beautifully renovated comfortable and spacious cottage in a delightful village."
Loads of wonderful walks from the door. Even better in real life than in the photos. Would thoroughly recommend!
-
"Such a lovely place and the location was perfect!"
Couldn’t have asked for better. Rarely do you get there and the place exceeds your expectations! Excellent stay for my partners 40th with friends. Would definitely stay again.
-
"Wonderful property!"
Very nicely decorated, lots of space, and very cozy
-
"The house is beautiful-exactly as the pictures on the website show."
We couldn’t fault anything. Gorgeous location. We loved the pack horse pub. The duck food was a lovely touch. We will recommend it to all our friends in Spain and will definitely return. Truly a memorable trip. Maybe put in a nespresso machine (Spaniards love their coffee!
-
"Previously stayed at River Cottage and loved it then and same this time."
Will book again in the future. Lovely village and good walks.
-
"This cottage is absolutely stunning."
Right in the centre of a beautiful village. I stayed for my 40th with friends & we couldn’t have wished for a better stay. All essentials are provided & it is exceptionally clean. Thank you to the owners for the bottle of Prosecco, milk & chocolates on arrival.
Thank you very much for the review, we are glad you had a nice stay. Property Owner
-
"We had a wonderful stay over New Year."
The photos don’t do it justice, such a great cottage on the river. The kids loved feeding the ducks every morning. Hosts were fab and sorted us out with a travel cot as we had forgotten to bring one. We also loved the champagne and chocolates which didn’t last long.
-
"Lovely cottage, Beautiful setting ."
Loved the village very friendly locals. Ate at the George Hotel across the road highly recommend. Appreciate we were leaving late by 5 minutes! but found it rude how the owners (cleaners ?) came in as we were loading the car I only needed to pick my handbag up and nip the toilet . With all the rules about COVID as well stripping beds etc . A bit pointless. they had no masks on either.
Sorry you were rushed, and we were unable to accommodate a late departure time. The cleaner was going on holiday that day, and had arranged extra help so she could finish early. Apologies once again. Property Owner
-
"Really lovely cottage in a beautiful village, which is well located for exploring the area."
The house is well equipped with everything you need, the terrace is also gorgeous and there were lovely welcome touches when we arrived. There are lovely places to eat and drink within walking distance.
-
"A fabulous house in a gorgeous central location - we will Hope to book again in the future."
-
"The cottage is really lovely and quite unique and located in a beautiful spot overlooking the river."
It is very comfortable and well equipped and we were delighted with the flowers, prosecco and chocolates left for us by the owners, plus various teas, coffee and duck food! There are a couple of minor maintenance issues which need sorting in the bathroom but otherwise no problems. The holiday was rebooked from last year so we had to wait 12 months for it but it was well worth the wait!
-
"The cottage was excellent and much bigger than expected."
Hayfield (which we'd not even heard of before) is a terrific village with four decent pubs and an excellent Italian restaurant. It's a super base for a week in the Peak District. Parking adjacent to the cottage is a bit hit and miss, but we could always park within three minutes' walk. And for loading and unloading one could stop briefly on a yellow line just down from the cottage. There is a robust railing (kids wouldn't easily be able to squeeze through) separating the cottage terrace from the river below and we felt the property surprisingly safe and suitable for young children (we had a toddler with us). Unreservedly recommended.
-
"WOW what a stunning property it did not disappoint us one bit."
The little touches that the owner added to the property to make our stay more comfortable was very much appreciated by us all.
-
"We truly had the most wonderful time here at River Cottage."
. spotlessly clean, beautiful attention to detail and set in the most idyllic spot next to the river ! We will definitely be returning !
-
"Great cottage in great location."
Clean and very welcoming with milk, tea, coffee, wood, cava and duck food!. We had fabulous weather too. Thank you for letting us stay.
-
"Very smooth"
-
"Riverside Cottage excels in so many areas - It is light and spacious and very well laid out to a high standard over three floors."
The owners clearly work hard to ensure their guest feel appreciated and at home during their stay. Cleanliness and general facilities are exceptional.
-
"From the moment of entering the cottage we were thrilled at the prospect of spending four days in such fantastic surroundings."
The space, the decor, the cleanliness plus the generous gifts of wine, chocolates, the variety of tea bags and coffees and various toiletries all exceeded our expectation.
-
"Excellent cottage in perfect spot for us."
Every detail had been through about and made for a very relaxing week.
-
"The cottage was beautiful with lovely welcoming touches."
The location was great - lots of local pubs and walks we could do straight from the cottage. We would definitely stay again!
-
"We spent a week at the cottage and it is in such a great location."
Lovely village with 3 pubs in walking distance for good food and drinks. Plenty of walks can be done from the village. The cottage itself is beautiful and nicely decorated. All amenities you could need. Was nice sitting out at night with stream running past. Had to score low on the comfort as both mattresses in the twin bedroom are very uncomfortable and can feel all the springs. Even using blankets under sheet didn't help. If these get replaced then it would be a 5 star accommodation and couldn't have any complaints.
-
"My friends and I arrived on the day pubs and restaurants were closed due to Covid-19."
However, we still had a fabulous weekend driving around the area I grew up in. Everybody in Hayfield was really friendly and the owners of the cottage were exceptional. The cottage was stunning in every way and my friends and I have already decided to return to the same cottage when we are out of lockdown. We are keen to enjoy the pubs and restaurants in the area and to go back to the cottage in Hayfield that we have already experienced and enjoyed so much.
-
"Cottage fabulous very clean some very nice touches."
A lovely place to stay, would highly recommend.
-
"We had the absolute pleasure of spending a family Christmas at this beautiful cottage."
Yes, the setting is stunning, convenient and exactly as pictured but what blew us away was all the little touches in this cottage. It genuinely felt like a home away from home. We were so comfortable, cozy and happy - didn't want to leave! You will not regret booking this exceptional holiday home! Only regret.... is we didn't book for 2 weeks!
-
"The cottage was gorgeous and provided everything we needed."
All the home comforts you would need for a stay if exploring the local area or just chilling for a few days
-
"We are 3 related couples all got married in 1969 and chose riverside cottage as part of our anniversary celebrations perfect place so well equipped with everything you need."

-
"Our stay at River cottage was amazing and exceeded our expectations."
We were a party of 2 families (5 adults and 4 children) plus visiting friends and River cottage accommodated us perfectly. It is huge and very well equipped. The little ones had an absolute ball and loved feeding the ducks from the patio. We would love to stay here again.
-
"River Cottage was just perfect for a weekend break with old school friends."
A beautiful property in an ideal location. We felt the photos did not do it justice. So warm and cosy and lots of little thoughtful touches that made it a real home from home. No hesitation in recommending this property and we would be happy to return to it. Thank you.
-
"Fabulous location."
Comfortable and cosy with lots of lovely little touches. Will definitely be returning.
-
"The cottage is excellent especially for a group or family holiday."
It is roomy, light and tastefully appointed with attention to detail. The location is excellent in a picturesque but genuine working village with good facilities. Very efficient heating and a kitchen with high spec equipment. We particularly appreciated the welcome pack of provisions. Thank you for a splendid three days. I'd be happy to vote for your award if I could work out how to do so. Michael Bell (and four others)

"This cottage is everything it says it is, absolutely loved it ."
Location great, friendly village, can't ask for anything else. We will be back next year for another family get together.
-
"We were very pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness and homely feel to River Cottage."
The owners have put in a lot of effort to make this feel home-from-home and it shows! Hayfield is a lovely little village and there are plenty of walks, pubs and places to eat. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend and can't wait to return!
-
"Beautiful house and locations."
Fiona went over and beyond to tailor to our individual requirements. The cottage was spacious and perfect for group trips away. I would definitely recommend river cottage to friends and family in the future!
-
"Fabulous to find a property that was so accurately listed."
Photos and information were clear and helped make our decision to book. Customer service from both the company and the cottage owners was of a high standard.
-
"River Cottage is in a lovely setting by River Sett with all the amenities of the village a very short distance away - three pubs, two cafes and an Italian restaurant/bar."
A slightly further walk - about 4-5 hours - will take you up Kinder Scout and back - all along footpaths with no roads involved. So a perfect location for exploring the high Peak. The cottage is a perfect blend of original features and tasteful renovation - resulting in a comfortable, clean and cosy living environment which is very relaxing - the large terrace by the river is perfect for outside eating and drinking. The kitchen and dining room is very well equipped for cooking and eating - a serious number of pans and dishes ! In the end there were 5 adults in our group - the cottage would be perfect for 6 adults and 2 children. The owners left a welcome gift of wine, chocolates and coffee/tea which was very welcome. The beds, bedding and towels were all high quality. Highly recommended.
-
"We had an amazing short break, was a lovely location to spend time together and have space to relax."
Great walks nearby, explored Kinder Scout. We really enjoyed the ducks right outside the door every morning and being next to the water.
-
