  • "Fantastic well presented cottage in a Great location."

Slight criticism the television struggled to pick up channels with very poor signal strength. The cleanliness was good … however Royal clean had missed several areas with cobwebs on beams and standing floor lamp … Overall a nice relaxing stay and would consider staying again…..

  • "Had a fabulous stay in Fern Cottage, it is cosy yet spacious, homely yet modern and extremely comfortable."

The bath in the main bathroom was to die for. The only tiny gripe we had was the kitchen knives weren't particularly good (chipped blades) but we managed and if you're eating out more than in it won't be a problem at all. The outside space is amazing. We were lucky enough to get warm weather so we could sit outside and having the driveway for off road parking is a definite advantage. The cottage is ideally situated for walkers with numerous walks straight out of the front door. The village shop is less than 5 minutes walk away and very well stocked as well as being the post office. We've stayed in a number of different properties in and around Baslow and this was the best in terms of location and comfort. We love this area of the Peak District and will be booking to come back sooner rather than later if I get my way.

  • "Fern Cottage is all about location and character."

It offers amazing views, a lovely garden and plenty of character elements throughout. It’s a spacious accommodation. The second bathroom is definitely a plus, although the en-suite is quite narrow. The comfort of the beds is sufficient in the master bedroom, but below average in the second double bedroom, unfortunately. Although the house was very clean throughout, the place was crawling with woodlice. Perhaps this could be looked at. It didn’t spoil our stay, as they are harmless. Damian has been helpful and easy to contact when we had some issues with the TV. We enjoyed our stay in Baslow and in Fern Cottage very much and can very much recommend it.

Thanks for taking time to feedback, it’s great to hear you enjoyed your stay and looking forward to welcoming you back in the future. Warm weather after rain can encourage woodlice to come in from the garden, the cleaners have applied some woodlice spray this week to remedy. Although relatively new I’ll take a look at the second bedroom mattress, thanks for letting me know. Thanks for choosing to stay in Fern cottage and hopefully see you again. • "Beautiful cottage with very high quality of fittings."

Unfortunately there is a problem with the hot water: A combination of combi boiler and no thermostatic regulation of bath or main bathroom over bath shower led to a dangerously hot shower that was difficult to reduce and a bath that takes 15 minutes to run (otherwise the water is only tepid. Correct this and the cottage will be perfect.

We are sorry to hear you had difficulties understanding how to operate the thermostatic shower controls in the bathroom, despite us attending the property and showing you how to use them. Please be assured that both the ensuite and bathroom have standard thermostatic controls to supply a safe water temperature. The only way to achieve a dangerously hot shower is to manually override the thermostatic control past the safety setting. Best wishes Clare and Damian Shaw Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage and Baslow is a lovely base."

Ample space for 4 adults and 1 child. We had a great break. Our grandaughter loved her bedroom and she enjoyed the garden. The cottage is warm and welcoming, having 2 bathrooms and a downstairs loo is a bonus, no queuing! There was help on hand next door. J & B made our stay memorable, thank you. Well equipped kitchen with a lovely table, and some of the best views whilst dish washing! It was good to have a reasonable sized freezer, we were able to have a food delivered on day 1. The cottage is blessed with fabulous views all around. A great base for walking, we walked most of the Monsal Trail between Hassop & Wye dale. We also visited Crich Tramway Village. Would definitely consider coming again

  • "Lovely well equipped cottage."

Spotlessly clean on arrival. Initially the main living room was cold and took while to warm up, but after a day all was good. Some issues with the TV but a new aerial cable seemed to solve it. Walks available straight from the door so didn't have to use the car very much. All in all we had a great time and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others.

  • "This is our second visit for our family of 4 and our dog Willow."

I's a fantastic base for access to Bakewell and Chatsworth House, which is a short drive away. There are walks right on the doorstep with access to the woods which our dog Willow thoroughly enjoyed. Lovely eateries in the village, our favourite is The Prince of Wales serving amazing food which we have visited on both trips. The owners were amazing! I we needed anything they were happy to help without hesitation. Everything you need from a holiday rental is here and much more. All modern appliances. The washing facilities were great after a muddy walk. We found operating the TV a bit tricky, but we found some board games that kept us entertained and with teenagers it's not always easy. The sofa has been replaced since our last visit with a stunning piece that was so comfortable and complimented the stunning decor. At times, the outside steps were tricky but we used the footpath by the main road and that was fine. The garden does have open access but on our last visit we used a tether and Willow sat with us and enjoyed watching people walk by. As time goes by, I wonder if we'll be able to book in as the property becomes popular!. We don't normally place reviews but felt this time we must, because it's a gorgeous property. Thank you again for your help and we'll see you again soon.

  • "We had a lovely week in Baslow."

Was a great base to meet up with family and Friends. A few niggles took the shine off the stay - namely 1. The sofa is not fit for purpose, main sofa cushions slipped off (nothing holding them to the base/back) 2. the ensuite was extremely narrow (photo was a tad misleading) 3. The cobwebs in the en-suite were amazing (high up on the ceiling) 4. The electric switch to the main bathroom ? faulty, as needed to turn on and off several times before the light stayed on 5. The size of the beds - I would suggest are more queen sized than King (where King is 5ft 5").

  • "A lovely cottage in a beautiful location, perfectly situated for nature lovers and hikers - with the added benefit of close proximity to shops, restaurants and pubs whilst enjoying the peace of a truly rural retreat."

The cottage was charming, cosy, and clean, with comfortable beds and a gorgeous garden to watch the sun set with a glass of bubbly! We loved the unique layout and viewing windows. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils for food prep. Only observations were that the sofa isn't in the best condition, and as a dog friendly cottage it would give greater peace of mind to owners if the driveway and side entrance were gated/secured. However my dog isn't one to stray and the house is set on a very quiet road so this wasn't an issue for us. Overall we loved this property and absolutely intend to book again! Thank you so much :)

The cottage has been effectively modernised and is comfortable and well equipped, with a pleasant garden and good outlook. There are steps both inside and outside that could prove challenging for some. A lovely peaceful base for a visit to beautiful countryside.

About the location

BASLOW

Chatsworth 1 mile; Bakewell 5 miles.

The pretty village of Baslow lies at the north end of stately Chatsworth House - home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. The village has many unusual and picturesque features including a triple-arched river bridge guarded by a toll house whose doorway is only 3 1/2 feet high! Baslow offers a range of village amenities including shops, pubs and restaurants. Close by is Bakewell, the capital of the Peak District, and home of the famous Bakewell pudding (definitely not tart!), still made locally to an old and secret recipe. Bakewell is at the scenic heart of the Peak District, and with Alton Towers also within easy touring distance, there is plenty for the whole family to enjoy.
