  • "Overall , we had a lovely stay at the Wharfage."

The location is great and the property was full of character. There were cleanliness issues , particularly in the kitchen - fridge , oven , bin , coffee machine , dishwasher and fire hadn’t been cleaned properly . There was also an unsteady chair in the kitchen which I can see has been reported on previous reviews. Lots of cobwebs everywhere which you expect in an old house but clearly some had been there for months . The front door is difficult to lock / unlock and we couldn’t find any key for the drive gates so couldn’t close these fully to make the area dog-safe- tried to ring Sykes several times but no answer. On initially parking we did get stopped by someone who advised abruptly and repeatedly that we could not park there until we explained we were actually renting the property! The property could be amazing and is lovely and comfortable but little issues need to be addressed

  • "A lovely old cottage as described in a great location a short walk from Iron Bridge with beautiful walks from the doorstep."

An oddly shaped house - be prepared for lots of walking up and down. Be warned this house is on the main road and can be quite noise esp in the rooms upstairs with no secondary glazing - we live on a main road in London and it kept us awake! There are also no decent curtains on the windows so expect an early wake up in summer. The ensuite room desperately needs a new mattress as its slopes badly in the middle. Some of these are an easy fix which would make this cottage brilliant. The owners were really helpful and checked in on us and immediately fixed an issue we raised.

  • "Excellent! This is a beautiful, characterful & homely house with everything you need and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay here."

The bedrooms are all a good size with 2 that could be considered master bedrooms - the one downstairs is beautifully furnished and extremely roomy, and one of the upstairs bedrooms is also roomy and has an en-suite. The other 2 upstairs bedrooms are also well-proportioned with another shared bathroom - all suitable for adults. All 3 of the bathrooms have good sized, powerful showers with a choice of shower heads (although my husband did find the door on one of them a bit of a squeeze to get through). The downstairs bedroom and bathroom were part of our criteria when booking as our party included my 91 year-old mother-in-law who has difficulty with stairs so these were ideal. We like to have a dining room (also part of our search criteria) but thought the stairs down to it might be a problem since there was no handrail, but my mother-in-law did not find these stairs a problem and we used it each evening we ate in. Some curtains in the dining room would have made it a bit more homely - we could imagine the room being perfect for a Christmas dinner. The kitchen is well-equipped, with a large gas range-style cooker and the table in the kitchen was great for breakfast. We were unsure when we left what went where for recycling, but scanned the QR code on the bin and found the details easy to understand. The house was lovely and warm when we arrived, we found the heating very easy to adjust and the WiFi worked well (which we needed as we had no cellular signal in the gorge). Although the front garden is fully enclosed our small dog could easily have run under the gates onto the road, but we had realised this from the pictures so we keep him on a lead while out. This was not a problem as he is getting old and was tired out from walking during the day. We loved Ironbridge and there was so much to do locally we couldn't fit it all in (we only had one week) so we may have to come back! Everyone we met was friendly and the dog was welcomed into so many places it made the whole experience easier to enjoy together. We wholly recommend this house and found it great value.

  • "The location of the property couldn't be more perfect for exploring Ironbridge."

There is plenty of room for a large family..The showers were sooo good!! There is a shop directly opposite for all those little things you forgot to pack. I was disappointed there was no information about the history of the building or any information about how to use the heating, which bin is which etc, and would highly recommend this as an addition in the future. What let the property down unfortunately was the lack of attention to detail in the kitchen. On the surface everything looked clean but the grill, had been left dirty by a previous guest and not cleaned, as was the right hand fan oven, where something had been spilt. The filter coffee machine, although empty had old coffee grounds on the inside of the lid and the coffee and sugar cannisters were also grotty. The dust pan was full. All small.things but these added up and it was a shame, as the bedrooms and bathrooms were fine. We also noticed fungus growing around the hearth and by the log basket in the lounge, which may need looking at. Some oven gloves for the oven would be useful. The TV had an interesting user name set up on one the accounts, which while we laughed about it, could possibly offend other guests. I did message the owners while we were at the property about the grill pan and oven etc but did not receive a response. I loved the property and our stay in Ironbridge. I think it could be amazing with a few tweaks. Definitely need bare feet or slippers upstairs as the beautiful, wonky flooring is slippy otherwise.

  • "This property is in a fantastic location, the property itself is gorgeous."

Spacious, with tasteful decor and soft furnishings. However, beware! Looks can be deceiving. I had my 60th birthday family get together over the Easter weekend and we were 7 adults, 1 toddler and 1 small dog. The house is lovely but we experienced several safety issues including an outer door which did not lock, a large stack of wood in the yard with nails sticking out of it and collapsing old chairs in the dining room and kitchen. We reported the door whilst still at the cottage but were advised by the call handler that the other issues could wait till after the bank holiday was over. The bed in the downstairs bedroom was very uncomfortable with springs poking through the mattress. My husband and I slept on the sofas on the first night but managed to get hold of a foam mattress to place on the bed for the rest of our stay. So, after the stay I began my attempts to contact Sykes in order to resolve our issues. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve phoned and emailed. It’s almost impossible to speak to an agent or get any response unless you hang on in there and have hours to waste in the hope you get hold of someone. Basically, I’ve been called a liar because I cannot prove that the bed was uncomfortable or the door didn’t lock with photographic evidence! I took pics of the broken chair and of the wood with nails, but thief were ignored. Also the owner has a spy ( neighbour) that reports comings and going’s like how many cars are parked and that we took a foam mattress into the house. They forgot to report that we tidied up the yard for the safety of the toddler and dog as if one of them had fallen or trod on the nails on the wood, there would have been a law suit. They also accused us of having more people at the property than we booked for. Again 7 adults and a child. My husband and I took a car each , my brother and wife from Kent , our son from Newscastle and my niece from Bridgnorth. 5 cars which the spy miscalculated as 6 but hey ho. The long and short of it is this……this place looks nice enough but make sure you take a first aid kit and don’t need sleep and don’t mind the nosey neighbour watching your every move .Also Sykes are a disgrace. Will never use them again and certainly will never recommend them. They do not care a jot about the customer and neither does the owner of this property .

More toilet rolls. Surface kitchen cleaner. Hand wash. Basic kitchen items like foil. We had to go and purchase all these items. The fridge wasn’t clean when we arrived. Carver chair in dinning room was broken! Suggestion for the downstairs bathroom to have the glass door replaced with a solid door, due to lack of privacy. Over all though we enjoyed our time in your property and we all slept well !! Despite the road traffic

  • "We had a lovely stay at the Wharfage."

The house is in a brilliant location- we were able to explore a lot of the town by foot and enjoyed the museums, park and seeing the ironbridge. We were also able to drive to nearby Shrewsbury and The Hawkstone Follies. The house was well equipped, spacious and clean. It was good to have parking spaces too and seating outside. The only issue we had was that the coffee maker was full of old sludgy coffee when we arrived - we weren’t sure how to clean it so had to buy a cafetière to use for the week. It would have been good to have a couple of dishwasher tablets to get started but with the co-op across the road it wasn’t any trouble to get some. We couldn’t find a guidebook for the house so it took us a while to figure out how to adjust the heating temperature- we also found the hot water didn’t come on before 7am and we were not sure if this was a setting or a fault. A guide would have been useful for the recycling/ bins too. The downstairs bedroom was lovely but the mattress was quite uncomfortable. Also the downstairs bathroom has a window on the door out into the hallway - perhaps a curtain or blind would be good here as it was difficult to maintain privacy! We would recommend people staying in upstairs rooms wear slippers and not walk around in just their socks as the old wooden floor is quite slippy at the top of the stairs. We had a lovely stay in Ironbridge- thank you for letting this fantastic cottage.
