"Excellent property."
Very clean abd comfortable. The only slight downside was no Wi-Fi. EE signal very, very weak (no fault of the owners though). All in all a fabulous property with excellent hosts. Would recommend highly.

"The fields at the bottom of the garden took our breath away!"
Jane was fantastic, cottage perfect!

"Barn Cottage is an absolutely beautiful place to stay."
The cottage has everything you need for a relaxing stay. The owners were very welcoming on our arrival which was lovely. The large field behind the cottage was certainly a big hit with our dog with the amazing scenery being as much of a hit for us. Can't wait to return!
-
"The landlady was exceptionally nice and welcoming."
Although the cottage is on a main road, we were not affected by the noise of the traffic! The thick solid walls of the character building we stayed in provided calm and warmth in a beautiful countryside setting. We loved it

"What a wonderful place which far exceeded my expectations."
A very warm welcome from both Jane & John who walked me through the house to run me through the operation of the heating, shower, cooking appliances etc and then left us alone to enjoy the peaceful break that we were looking, with the reassurance that they were just next door, or on the end of a phone, had anything untoward happened. I have hired maybe 15-20 cottages over the years and this has got to be one of the best, if not the best. We were holiday sitting my brother's dog and can truly say that the enclosed garden truly was as advertised and the adjacent field where he could run to his heart's content was superb - my own late dog would have loved such facilities which in the past have not delivered in full. Mum wanted to stay another week and if work hadn't been a factor I'd have happily extended our stay - the place was spacious and homely and four people would have more than enough space. Some of the feedback for this property left me a little apprehensive but I'm glad that it didn't dissuade me from booking. The owner can only be honest with the advert and if they tell you there is no wi-fi or it's adjacent to (at times) a busy road then don't complain when you arrive to find just that. Phone signal was excellent though, and so it should be at 1250ft above sea level, so internet access on my smartphone was not an issue. I'd love to return to this gem in the Peak District

"The cottage had everything you could need for a lovely stay."
The field was great for our dog, he loved it. Unfortunately due to heavy rain it hadn't been cut so the grass was long which meant we didn't use it as much as we would of liked. Cons: The property doesn't have wifi, which would be an advantage if you have children. The lorries and traffic are quite loud from the road, which is mentioned in the description but louder than I expected.

"Although we loved the peace and tranquility WiFi need to be installed ..."
Although we loved the peace and tranquility WiFi need to be installed , Shower has very low pressure, I mean really low

"My husband and I booked the cottage as it was dog friendly, we stayed for a week in September with our dog."
The cottage was very clean and well maintained , with a pleasant secure garden for warmer days. The real bonus however was the use of a large field for the dog. Would happily book this cottage again.

"The beds were rather hard and the white metal base was cold when sat on edge."
I couldn't understand why there were no bins in the bedrooms or living room. Otherwise we loved the spacious cottage and garden with field for walking dog.

"Fab location."
Jane and John very accommodating. 2 adults and 2 kids plus the family dog. All amenities covered. We had an amazing week even with the weather being hit and miss. Would highly recommend, we will be back.

"We had a lovely stay!"
It's a great location to get to everything and Aldi is just a few minutes drive away. The owner was polite and explained how to use everything then left us to it. The only negative was a bit of a drain smell from the upstairs bathroom but it disappeared once we had used the shower and sink. The property is really comfortable and everything was spotlessly clean. We would stay here again.
-
"We really enjoyed our stay in the cottage."
It was immaculately clean, comfortable and warm. The traffic was noticeable (as stated in their listing), but not distracting and didn't keep us awake.
-
"The owner was extremely helpful and very accommodating."
The property was fantastic in every aspect, clean well furnished and extremely comfortable. The garden and surrounding views were also wonderful. It is located in a good area with plenty to go see fairly nearby. We had a lovely comfortable, relaxing break and hopefully will be booking again in the near future.

"A lovely spacious cottage in a beautiful area."
The safe garden where the dog could play was good but having access to the field as well meant we could all appreciate the extensive views while exercising. The cottage was well equipped. A really relaxing stay.
-
"A characterful property."
The use of a field to the rear of the cottage to exercise the dog was fantastic. Ditto, the private fenced garden area. Owner was very friendly and helpful. We did not find the sound of traffic intrusive but appreciate the warning given in the description. Good location for visiting the area. A small welcome pack of tea/coffee would be a nice addition. Lack of wi-fi may be an issue to some guests. The electric shower had a low water pressure.
-
"Comfortable and pleasant accommodation."
Helpful owner. No wi-fi and poor phone reception. Local pub not great but good pubs and restaurants in Chapel en le Frith and Castelton. Good centre for holiday activities. Dog walkers a bit impaired due to sheep and lambs everywhere. Best place is reservoir just past Chapel. Also Beehive pub.

"Outstanding retreat for a quiet get away from it all."
Superb location if you have a pet with the private field. Beautifully decorated with original character. Extremely Clean and well fitted out. If you have young ones there is no wi-fi as listed and 4G is patchy, but we saw this as a bonus. The road mentioned in other reviews was hardly noticeable. If you wish to use the Devonshire Arms pub the walk is along the busy road and the opening hours are not all day when we visited closed Monday to Thursday. The only slight downside was the chairs were rather uncomfortable and the shower ran excessively hot or cold with a low pressure. We would highly recommend staying here and would do again. The late check in of 1700 is in our opinion too late especially if you are travelling from afar and with a pet as we were.
-
"Lovely rural property with a spacious lounge and bedroom."
The Garden and dog field were a real plus for our energetic pup and family
-
"Great location negative points."
Wished we could of checked in earlier than 5pm a key in a key press would be good rather than depending on the owner being there. Beds would benefit from new mattresses nit very comfortable. No WIFI. Positive. Great location to explore Peak District and Manchester Alton Towers etc. Nice spacious accommodation, clean and a nice new kitchen, which was not in pics of the accommodation. Nice big garden and pretty Court yard.
-
"We enjoyed our recent stay at Barn Cottage and is in a good location in the Peak District."
The cottage is spacious but the kitchen is a little on the small side but for 2 is adequate. I missed there not being a hairdryer and the towels were a little on the small side. If you have a dog the field at the back is huge and there is a nice garden which gets the afternoon and evening sun but the adjacent cottage also uses this to access their cottage. All in all, despite the points mentioned we would return here again if we come back to the area.
-
"Lovely cottage and facilities were great."
Mattress on kingsize bed was a little unforgiving for us but might be perfect for someone else. Phone signal on EE was awful only working in the windows. Although to be fair phone signal on EE pretty poor across the whole of the Peaks! O2 though was really good. Only need phone to catch up with Asda delivery and daughter so was not really an issue just a frustration.

"We had a lovely stay at barn cottage with friends staying in the adjacent cottage."
Using it as a base for excellent walks in the area. Whilst the kids found the lack of Wi-Fi a big change from the norm. It was good to be together with no device distractions. The Barn cottage was spacious and comfortable and very clean and the enclosed gardens with both properties and the huge walled field at the back gave the dogs plenty of space to be in too (although they were pretty tired from all the walks during the day.) All in all we had a lovely stay and now have a known place to stay if we are in the area again.
-
"We had a lovely week weather good for the time of year."
I would like to mention kitchen could do with an upgrade cooker very slow! But we loved the renovation & would come again
-
"A lovely cottage and centrally located within the Peak District."
The owners were warm and welcoming upon arrival and I would thoroughly recommend a stay.
-
"A most beautiful, warm and cosy cottage."
Lovely garden and access to a field which was excellent for the dog. Great situation for visiting different areas of the Peaks. And a wonderful local pub where we were made welcome and served delicious food.
-
"A lovely holiday cottage with a lovely size, secure garden for the dog and a lovely field to use at the back too."
The cottage itself is cosy but spacious, with lovely decor. The whole place is just lovely and we would definitely stay again. Only thing I would recommend is owners purchasing a cheap high chair, but we did get by putting baby in the pushchair, so no big issue here.
-
"Lovely cottage with big rooms, except kitchen which is rather small."
Situated in the countryside, very peaceful. The only negative comments: central heating difficult to operate, and one of the lounge windows is right next to the path used by other cottage dwellers. We did enjoy our stay, especially the weather.
-
"Lovely clean cottage, well located with easy access to the wonders of the surrounding area."
The field is perfect for exhausting an excited dog and there is ample parking. A great base to explore the area from. A really comfortable and cosy cottage with very helpful and friendly hosts.
-
"The accommodation was absolutely perfect!"
We couldn't fault anything about it. Absolutely superb.
-
"A beautiful cottage in a beautiful location."
Extremely clean and comfortable. Would highly recommended and am planning to return.
-
"The cottage was perfect the only problem was it was on an extremely busy road so was very noisy even through the night with lorries travelling along the road from the nearby quarries (which at the time of booking we were not aware of) making it difficult to get a peaceful nights sleep."
We loved the area and will almost certainly return but to a much quieter location, but we could not fault the cottage at all. The owners were lovely people and very helpful. Tom and Denise
-
"Excellent location and holiday let."
We had both this property and the next door cottage for extended family which worked well. Great walking and dog friendly. This property has more living room and bedroom space but kitchen has limited space to cook - next door has better kitchen lay out if that’s important to you.
-
"Lovely clean comfortable cottage, friendly owners."
-
"Lovely cottage, very warm and cosy."
The hosts were very friendly. Beautiful scenery. Lots of interesting walks with the dog, enjoyed using the fields behind the cottage to give him a run, as impossible to let our poodle off the lead in the hills! Lots of "dog friendly" pubs and shops in the local area. NB: No WiFi and no washing machine.
-
"Very friendly and welcoming hosts, a very clean and cozy cottage."
Set in a quiet area with plenty of walks nearby.
-
"The main road out Side of cottage drive was really really busy and no foot path to take u down to the village pub ."
Only walk near cottage was the field which he enjoyed so definitely need boots or wellies if its raining .
-
"Only problem was the local pub advertised as ."
2 of mile away was only open Thursday to Sunday
-
"Fantastic hosts friendly and helpful."
Cottage wonderful clean great facilities fantastic for the dog. Secure garden and easy access to open fields from garden. Lots of easy access parking
-
"Recommend to us by my parents who have stayed with you several times."
Lovely, clean, comfortable cottage with excellent views, right in the heart of the Peak District. Loved it.
-
"Lovely place really relaxing pubs for food was so lovely had a great weekend away"
-
"The cottage was large and beautiful."
Set in a lovely garden and surroundings..perfect position to enjoy all the lovely villages and beautiful countryside that the peak district has to offer.on the down side.the central heating boiler was located outside the cottage and was preset by the owner...and because there was no fire we found it cold for many parts of the day...the settee was so uncomfortable that it left us with neck ache....and perhaps a small welcome pack would have been appreciated as most cottages we visit have one and it makes you feel most welcome....overall the cottage was great value for money .easy solution is to slightly raise the price of the cottage to cover the cost of these minor details.overall a great stay .many thanks.

"Barn Cottage was perfect, well equipped, comfortable, ideal for dog with fields just out the backdoor, There is no WiFi, or EE phone coverage but that was lovely, and you can get both at the local pub, which did lovely food, and was dog friendly, We had a lovely time, a very beautiful area, Eyam, Castleton lovely villages, and Dovedale a must for walking."

About the location
PEAK FOREST
Tideswell 4 miles; Chapel-en-le-Frith 4 miles; Buxton 4 miles.
The ancient and peaceful village of Peak Forest is situated in the heart of the Peak District National Park, boasting an excellent pub, which serves good food. The village is named for the Royal Forest of the Peak, which was an open area used as a royal hunting park rather than a forested area. Peak Forest has a church, which was founded in 1657 by the Countess of Devonshire and until the 18th century, its vicar had considerable freedom in conducting marriage ceremonies, hence Peak Forest became Derbyshire’s Gretna Green. Eldon Hole, one of the seven wonders of the Peak, is surrounded by superb walking country. Nearby are the pretty villages of Edale, the start of the Pennine Way, Castleton, with four spectacular caverns to visit, the ‘plague’ village of Eyam, and Tideswell, where the church is regarded as the cathedral of the Peak. Horse riding, cycling and swimming at the open-air pool in Hathersage and the wonderful Castleton Caves are all available within 7 miles. Enjoy a day out at Alton Towers or visit the impressive Chatsworth House estate, Haddon Hall, or the house and glorious gardens at Lyme Park, all within easy reach.
