  • "The cottage was lovely."

Clean and comfortable. There are no doors on the bedrooms due to the layout of the conversion, this was not an issue for my sister and I. However, it may not be appropriate for others. We enjoyed feeding the resident peacock who came knocking on the back door each morning. There is not a huge amount of natural light in the property due to it being a barn conversion; however, the owners have provided plenty of lamps and overhead lighting so this was not an issue for us. An extra shelf in the oven would be better as it was difficult to cook numerous items at the same time with only one shel. In addition, a drainer would have also been useful for the dishes and a container to leave the recyclable items in rather than at the side of the bin as indicated. However, these small things did not detract from our stay which was excellent. The cottage was wonderfully warm, the lady we dealt with was pleasant and we would not hesitate to return if in the area again.

  • "The property met our basic requirements, however when searching for the property on Google Maps (Bank House Farm, Nr Buxton, Newhaven, Derbyshire, United Kingdom, SK17 0DS) it brings up somewhere else, in Hulme End."

We had therefore booked the pub in Hulme End for our evening meal, so were disappointed with the mix-up. The details for the property do not state that there are no doors on the bedroom, we recommend this is addressed. There was a mouse in the kitchen. The shower was nice.

It was also spotlessly clean and comfortable. The resident peacock and his sidekick duck were always welcome visitors to the back door.,You can hear the traffic noise from the busy main road but I live near a motorway and know that after a while you just don't notice it's there but if this bothers you this is not the cottage for you, being on this main road does however mean that the attractions of the White Peak are all easily accessible. Finally I would just like to say I had a wonderful stay and would recommend it totally.

  • "We had a wonderful time staying at no."

    3. It was comfortable, well connected and spacious - even with our family of 5! Percy the peacock was a favourite of the children (aged 5, 3 and 1) and they were over the moon to spot him sauntering by our back door in the mornings. The chickens were also well loved and a great source of amusement We had a few minor quibbles - the listing including washer/dryer which we had hoped to use but the machine was just a washing machine. The bedrooms had flights of stairs leading directly up into them with no doors so sound carried around the property, not ideal considering we have small children. But these were minor things and didn’t impact the joy of our stay at all - in fact apart from the washing machine the kitchen was one of the best equipped holiday cottage kitchens we’ve had and even boasted a slow cooker which we took advantage of! And after being worried about the road noise (after reading other reviews) we had no issues and barely noticed the main road just next door. Do note that if you are a family this property is not really set up for small children. We coped by keeping the living room door shut so the toddler couldn’t reach the stairs, we bought a few toys at a charity shop on one of our visits and we brought our own high chair and travel cot. Again this didn’t detract from how wonderful the stay was, but certainly something to keep in mind

Excellent facilties everything you could need. Very comfy beds. Very clean. Only problem was it's next to a very busy road that is very noisy all night long. It really affected our sleep. I did not know there were no doors to the bedrooms. This caused a bit of a problem for us due to having children. Other than that it was excellent amd for the price it was very good value

A radio is provided for early morning listening whilst enjoying breakfast. Bathroom is well equipped with an excellent shower. Bedrooms are large with a double wardrobe and plenty of coat hangers, also drawers for smaller items. Beds comfortably with good duvet and pillows. Have a walk around the yard meet the chickens, donkeys and the friendly peacock. Had fun feeding him morning and evening. Going out, everything is within 12 miles, Buxton, Tram Museum at Matlock and many more interesting places. 27 miles away is Biddulph a lovely national trust garden please go and enjoy. It was a genuine home from home. If I have one micro-niggle, it's that there was no salad bowl or water jug, and most of the kitchen knives were well overdue a sharpening! But these are hardly showstoppers. We'd come again in a heartbeat. Fabulous place.

My 12 yr old daughter cried all the way home because we had to leave there a little sooner than expected (and she’s hard to please at times so that’s a huge compliment!!) And I’d be lying if I didn’t say that the friendly resident peacock made the holiday extra special. NB An added bonus. Although we were prepared not to have any, the website did state there wasn’t any wifi at the cottage, but there was, this would be a significant game changer for would-be bookers if you were to amend your advert. Especially as there is no mobile phone service here, so for emergencies, booking activities / restaurants, etc, the wifi for mobile ‘call assist’ alone proved essential.

The cottage is situated in a lovely area of the Peak District and it's only a short drive to some good local pubs and towns. It was very peaceful and even had a very friendly peacock who would wait outside the back door to be fed. It was a good base if your planning on doing some walks in the area and even tho the weather was against us most days we managed to do some walks we had planned.
