  • "A very comfortable cottage in a quiet village."

We enjoyed 2 walks directly from the property. Apart from Holmfirth, the local towns did not have a lot to offer. The visitor centre at Standedge was unfortunately closed. We visited the Tolson museum in Huddersfield. A point to note is that the nearest pub is 1 mile away and is the only one nearby serving food. A couple of the others have 'food wagons' visiting at weekends.

Hi Chris Thank you for your feedback. You obviously went to the Wills O Nats and the Travellers Rest. If you had turned right at the junction at the reservoir you could have eaten at the Bulls Head which does good food. Hope you had an enjoyable stay regards. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely 10 days here at this recently refurbished cottage."

On arrival we did struggle to find the saucepans but owner arrived the next day with a brand new set and showed us the “hidden” cupboard in the kitchen which did have further pans and cooking utensils which met all our needs. Refurbishment has been done to a high standard and is very quirky.

Delighted to know you enjoyed your time at the cottage. It was lovely to have met you too and to have revealed the secret pan cupboard. Property Owner

  • "Cooking any basic meals proved very difficult in this cottage."

Though it is immaculately clean , basic items particularly saucepans are too large to make any simple sauces or even boil a couple of eggs. The "smallest " saucepan has flaking non stick . The owner did not offer any replacement pans when this was pointed out. If you are happy just to eat toast you will be ok. The property description does not state ' initial log supply only ' but that is all you get unless you complain. Don't complain via the email address on the paper confirmation sent by Sykes - it is an address that they do not read. The above sounds trivial but spoilt our holiday.

Oh Rosemary, you brought your own cooking utensils and because your own little pan did not work on an induction hob, which it does state in what is provided, pans come in standard sets which we provide. If I were to provide 2 person type equipment, that would be camping equipment, hardly what other guests would expect. Property Owner

  • "Very well appointed cottage with good quality fixtures and fittings, beautifully renovated by the owner."

Good location for walking, local amenities with good pubs and shops within walking distance/ a short drive. Ideal accommodation for 2 people and on site parking a real bonus. Owner came to check with us on first morning which was welcome. We gave 4 stars as couldn't contact the owner on email provided by Sykes which was frustrating as the shower didn't work and did not discover this until later on our first day. The bath is lovely but too deep for someone with bad knees. We saw the owner again as we were leaving and he hadn't received our emails, so the email address needs to be corrected to avoid future problems. Would definitely stay again.

Thank you so much for your review. So pleased that you appreciate the effort that went into renovating the cottage for people to enjoy, and also that you had the opportunity to enjoy the walking and amenities in the local area. We apologise for not having received your emails regarding the shower as we would have been there to sort this. However, Craig did meet up with you before you left. He and your husband went upstairs to see if there was indeed an issue, but the shower worked when Craig turned it on. So looking forward to your return. Property Owner

  • "A lovely stay that could do with a few tweaks - the location is idyllic, quiet, and sweet."

The house has been finished to a high standard - both modern and traditional with some unique quirks and is very pretty. However, facilities let this one down a little and unfortunately we wouldn't return. Dogs having to be kept on ground floor only means the use of the two further floors is quite ruined unless you want to leave your furry friends alone for the majority of your stay. But there isn't a sofa in front of the fire and tv - just two seats meaning cuddling up with your human other half isn't possible either. Taking the dogs out for a night-time toilet will prove difficult if their recall isn't great, as the front garden has no enclosure and leaks onto the main road. Whilst the kitchen is newly refurbished, small tweaks such as the tap barely reaching the middle of the sink causes a water explosion on the side, but no drain rack, kitchen roll, or cloth is provided to account for this. There is a dishwasher - but only one singular tablet is left (and this isn't mentioned) But washing up by hand isn't suitable either, as you're left with one mini-sponge only and no rack to dry your washing. Oven and tray is provided, but again only one singular line of foil is left. No hand sanitiser, wash, or spray to leave the cottage clean and fresh before our departure. We did feed this back directly to the owner with no response unfortunately. Dog friendly? possibly not, but perhaps dog-accepting would be better suited. Overall - it IS a lovely stay. I would recommend, but would note the above, but wouldn't return myself.

Thank you Christina for your full and thorough feedback. Apologies for not replying to your personal email, but we were taking in your feedback to see where we could improve and which of your comments were just things that didn't suit you personally . There is a dish-drainer on its way as yes ,totally a valid point, oh and by the way it's never been mentioned before so thank you. Regarding wash, spray etc we do not expect our guests to thoroughly clean the cottage as it is cleaned to COV19 standards upon your departure. To just leave it tidy is all we ask - our cleaning company take care of all the rest. It has always been on the Sykes website that dogs are to be kept on the ground floor and yes its open at the front - just like the photos show. I would assume any dog owner would keep their dogs on a lead when let out in a new area regardless of recall? New area - lots of scents? This is very open country. Once again, thank you for your full and informative feedback p.s. Christina, the tap is moveable it can be moved to any position over the sink? Property Owner

The attention to detail and finish is exceptional-the log burner was well used on our stay, the bath was fabulous, bed was super comfy and so cosy-loved the TV area on the 3rd floor. When I arrived there was milk, flowers and other essentials for us and the owner introduced himself and checked everything was ok-saw him again during our stay. My partner couldn't be there all week due to work but I felt safe was extremely comfortable and had the most relaxing week. Everything is on your doorstep, incredible scenery, walks and very friendly people. We loved it and will be back to stay again later in the year-thank you so much-your cottage is beautiful you couldn't have done anything better.

What can we say, we are overwhelmed as your review is the epitome of what we aimed for when we started renovating the derelict property into a holiday cottage. All we want is for our guests to enjoy the cottage, the area and to feel comfortable and relaxed which you clearly did - for us perfect feedback - we would be honoured to to meet you again when you return.
