"A fantastic welcome at The Mouse House."
Cozy and quirky space for a relaxing getaway. Everything needed was there, the welcoming information was really clear and the finishing touches really set this place apart. Already recommended to friends!

"A lovely cottage."
Comfortable and well thought out. Everything was available and our stay was exactly what we needed. Location is great and gave us easy access to the Peak District We can highly recommend The Mouse House and will return in the future.

"We had a lovely stay at The Mouse House."
It’s evident that the owner has put a lot of thought into making this cottage feel like a home from home, though the music on arrival was a-bit too much for us. Loved the little extras which were supplied. I would also like to report that we had no trouble with parking. Thank again for a lovely stay.

"Fantastic cottage, beautifully furnished with everything you need."
Lots of character in a super location. Would highly recommend.

"Absolute gem of a cottage."
It was a delight to arrive to soft lighting and coral music after a long journey. Loved the style of the cottage and way imformation was given. The attention to detail was amazing.....gonna be hard pushed to find another cottage to this standard after staying here.

"Absolutely lovely cottage and an excellent host, but parking situation in the village made experience very stressful."
We were unlucky to arrive during very heavy rain and the entire street was parked up to the brim with "road closed" signs on one end. Neighbours opposite were very unhappy with us trying to park up for a bit near the house to unload the car, so we had to carry a lot of our luggage under the pouring rain from the further end of the village. (There is a tight parking space near the house which is now considered unsuitable, so you can't use it). This parking situation continued throughout our stay. Then as a cherry on top we parked for under 10 minutes in an available space by a house further down the road, only to come back to angry neighbours and a bus backing away as it wasn't able to pass. It was a proper parking spot and a big Range Rover passed us easily, but we just weren't aware of the bus. As absolutely stunning as this cottage is, it's not suitable for someone who wants to come by car of medium to big size unless you're ready to deal with a village full of unhappy residents.
Thank you Daria for taking the time to leave a review of your recent, two night stay, at The Mouse House. I have never found it difficult, or stressful, to park in Elton. Maybe the fact it was August bank holiday weekend AND in the glorious Peak District National Park meant that there were rather more visitors about. It is, however, simply unfair to refer to the local villagers as 'unhappy'. If, as you stated, your car was parked in such a way that the bus was unable to get through the village surely they were entitled to be a little miffed? And what of the passengers further down the route? Anyway, anyone looking for the most recent comment at The Mouse House, from The visitor book on 27th August....'wow, just heaven'. Speaks for itself, raining or not! Take care Daria Thank you to all past, and future, guests for choosing to stay at The Mouse House. Su Property Owner

"A comfy, quirky cottage, just right for a 3 night stay."
All we needed was there, with lots of interesting walks nearby. No problem parking on Back Lane. The pub opens at 8.30pm and though basic, the locals were friendly. We will be back

"A quirky characterful little gem for 2 with everything you could wish for, in an ideal situation for exploring the beautiful Derbyshire Dales and Peaks."
The furnishings were ideal for our advancing years with a very efficient walk in shower, high backed sofa, a comfortable king size bed and hand rail on the steep stairs. The shady floral garden and the cool interior were and added bonus in the high temperatures we encountered, and the thoughtfulness of the owners second to none.

"Information provided superb."
Cozy warm cottage felt at home and relaxed soon as walked through door. Decor fabulous. Enjoy whoever books this cottage.

"We felt at home from the moment we walked through the door."
The mouse house is adorable and has absolutely everything you could need. It's spotlessly clean too. The bed was comfortable, as was the seating in the lounge. It was cold enough to use the log burner while we were there, which was lovely and cosy. The area is beautiful, lots of nice walks and some lovely villages to visit. We'd recommend this property in a heartbeat!

"Wonderful cottage with lovely touches such as the music playing on arrival and welcome basket."
The area information and details provided by Skye made the whole process stress free. Thank you as this was my first solo holiday it really made a difference to have such clear and helpful information before during and at the end of my trip. I would highly recommended both the Mouse House and Skye Cottages

"Absolutely brilliant in every aspect of our holiday all down to su and her thoughtfulness to make your hols as stressless as poss all the little informative little notes around the house which really helped those little worries I would have liked to have told her in person that was the only thing missing from our hols ."
Sykes made booking easy and straightforward so all in all a stressless enjoyable holiday and would recommend both Sykes and su kind regards mo & Keith

"Couldn't fault it."
Superb in every way. One of the best places we have stayed ever. Tiny and quirky. Will definitely return.

"As an elderly person with mobility problem I found the stairs difficult."

"Absolutely fantastic place to stay - I won't say too much and spoil it for others visitors but I would highly recommend this lovely, spotless!"
and characteristic place to stay. It has everything you need including plenty of milk for that always needed cuppa on arrival :-) This place was a great find and we WILL be returning. Thanks to the Su for all the care and attention into making it such a special place.

"A beautiful quirky little bolt hole in the middle of the glorious Derbyshire Dales."
Immaculately clean, a comfortable bed, beautifully presented and with everything we needed. We were aware of the steep staircase before we booked. Not a criticism but a hand rail on the bottom section would make a big difference. The Mouse House was exactly as described. Would we return? A most definite yes.

"This property exceeded our expectations and provided an ideal situation for a short, relaxing break in the Peak District ."
It was very cosy, comfortable and extremely well-equipped. So pleased we chose this one. It was really well located for walks from the door. The owner was very generous both in her wonderful welcome pack and gifts of extra time on Sunday morning. The woodburner was a wonderful bonus on a cold, windy weekend All in all a memorable weekend. Thank you.

"A lovely cottage with lots of extra unexpected touches."
It is an old cottage and has very low ceilings, but, that is to be expected. If you are more than 6ft 3, you will need to bend alot.......or just sit down alot and relax.. It is made clear in the description that there is parking for 1 small car.......it is for a very small car, and the surrounding walls look very unforgiving, if you were to touch one. Best to approach with the Mouse House on your right as the car parked opposite the drive makes getting the swing in very tricky. I always think the best guage for reviews is, 'would I stay there again'.......yes I would. I needed to let Sue, the owner, know about a change of my plans, and she was brilliant.

"From the moment we arrived we felt relaxed."
The cottage was warm and cosy with a lovely welcome pack. Decorated so tastefully for Christmas with twinkling lights and soothing music. Though compact there is plenty of storage for clothing and food. It's been so carefully thought out it never feels cramped at all. During the day we explored the surrounding area, some fabulous walking, but we loved coming back to Mouse House and building a log fire and settling in for the evening. We hope to return in the summer and enjoy the delightful little garden. It's worth noting the local pub only seems to open at night at the moment and doesn't serve food. There are 2 good pubs in the next village and a shop

"Stunning little cottage."
Perfect for a romantic getaway. Beautiful area. Cottage very, very clean. Quiet area. Owners had gone to the trouble of decorating it for Christmas . Very tasteful.
-
"The Mouse House was lovely and cosy with a little basket of goodies to keep us going."
The detail put into the cottage by the owners is excellent and we will definitely be revisiting again in the summer months. It is based within such a beautiful area with access to lots of lovely villages near by

"We had a lovely time at the Mouse House."
Everything we could possibly need was available for us and we were really well accommodated for. There are helpful notes throughout the property and everything is laid out beautifully. We really enjoyed our stay despite the rain and would definitely stay again. The village is small but there are plenty of nearby attractions to visit and the views are incredible. We really enjoyed our stay to escape from the busy city of Sheffield and loved every second of it. We really felt at home and this cottage is a great stay for anyone wanting a peaceful time in the Peak District.

"Parking the car is a little tricky and there were no alternatives as Severn Trent was relaying the water pipe in the main street."
We would have liked the option of good artificial light in one corner; good enough to read by if your eyesight is not the best. The spiral staircase is a bit of an obstacle if you have the misfortune to put your back out on the second day (as in my case) All the goodies, and there were many, were much appreciated as was the general ambience and the local countryside. Many thanks to Su for everything.

"This is a unique holiday cottage for two, charming and high quality, we enjoyed our stay."
-
"Parking difficult for a large car."
Had to park at the top of the road up the hill. Unfortunately caused hundreds of pounds damage to our car hitting the stone post when we arrived. Not a great start. The staircase was difficult for older people , winding steep and narrow. The lighting in the living room was very stark and dark. The decor was lovely and quirky. Lots of great touches such as the cakes and wine on arrival. A great standard of pots and pans, indeed everything in the kitchen was first class. Many thoughtful extras from soaps to a picnic basket. Comfy bed and plenty of hot water.

"We had a brilliant holiday at the Mouse House, and loved all of its quirks."
It was beautifully presented, communication great, it had access to some lovely walks (two of which from the front door!), and had everything we needed. We would not hesitate to recommend to others and would happily return.

About the location
WINSTER
Bakewell 6 miles; Matlock 4.5 miles.
The conservation village of Winster is situated within the White Peak area of the Peak District National Park and is an extremely pretty place, with a charming 17th century market house at its centre, and other imposing 17th and 18th century houses, many three storeys high. The three main streets - Main Street, East Bank and West Bank are interconnected by alleyways known as ‘ginnels’, which are well worth exploring. The village of Winster is famous for its Morris dancers, the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race, Wakes festivities in June, and the Secret Gardens of Winster event in July. Within the village there is a well-stocked, community-owned general store incorporating a Post Office. There are two pubs, both serving food and traditional beer. Bakewell, Matlock, Chatsworth House, and the Peak Rail Steam Railway are all nearby and, for keen walkers and cyclists, The Limestone Way runs along the edge of the village. The Tissington and High Peaks walking and cycling trails, with bike hire available, both lie less than 5 miles from the village, a wonderful base for exploring the Peak District.
