  • "When we arrived we were looking forward to having a nice hot tub experience after a long drive."

The hot tub had been lit but it was cold . We informed Mandy she got back to us then we did what she said , it was still cold , we didn’t use hot tub for two days so we were a bit disappointed . The main thing we would say we weren’t greeted on arrival and no presents when we left . The cats were lovely especially the white and grey one .

Thank you for your feedback back . As agreed I let you arrive earlier than the normal arrival time and the hot tub had not been lit that long between changeovers ie cleaning and refilling Unfortunately I was away as I do when I can do a meet and greet but it is not mandatory for me to be there. I had someone looking after the holiday let and he came down a couple of times to help with the hot tub ! Sometimes when the weather is particularly wet and windy which I believe it was it can be hard to get going but when it gets very hot it will eat its way through the logs and is very easy to use. The hut itself is small but there is a really good use of space and it is lovely and cosy. It's is a great location away from everything and the Hot Tub was a great bonus. We had a great stay and will definitely go back.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay here!"

Everything was clean and tidy upon arrival, and the property owner ensured that all of our questions were answered and we had everything we needed for our stay. They gave clear instructions on how to use the hot tub as well as the water inside so we weren’t unsure on anything. They also gave great advice on the local area which was very helpful. There were a few nice touches such as having a bottle of Prosecco and a milk in the fridge which makes it so welcoming. Will definitely look to return here in future and can’t recommend it enough!!!

  • "The Hut was unexpectedly small compared to the photos on Sykes cottages, we was greeted by the host and she showed us the hut she explained you would have to heat up hot tub ourself and how to do it she then explained the shower only stays hot for 2 minutes the hut does have all cooking essentials, the bed was all made up lovely and was a nice surprise to have a full size fridge as was not shown in the photos, the toilet room is not functional as your chin is touching the sink as it so close to the toilet and I think the sink is not needed as you can wash hands in kitchen area to allow more room."

The hut has lots of spider nest outside the door and they ended up coming into the bathroom area and there was cobwebs and baby spiders all over the bathroom and these have only got worse as the days went on. The shower was practically useless as only stayed hot for 1 mins then went ice cold so ended up having to wash hair in the sink you cannot move around the bathroom at all. We found that a few spider live in the skirting on the walls was not comfortable sleeping near it. The cats are lovely and friendly was with us the whole time we was here they are cheeky and let them selves feel at home in the hut and wakes you up everyday scratching on the door. Over all lovely cats but wouldn’t recommend for non cat lovers. I think the hut is good for a 2 night stay no longer and I wouldn’t not be returning.

The Shepherds Hut is compact but has everything you need in it . I always fill and light the hot tub for guest arriving so they can start there break as soon as they arrive but obviously part of the experience is filling the hot tub with logs or having to relight your self .It is glamping and we do live on a farm so the wild life is on your door step. Unfortunately I can’t keep all wildlife away ! The cats can be put away but spiders, ladybirds, birds, owls, foxes, bats, deer etc have the run of the place . Property Owner

Most comfortable bed i have slept in away from home.Very small but compact and had everything you needed to cook with.We took our airfryer as it was March and a charcoal bbq was too much hassle to have to light and get up way to early.Perhaps a gas bbq would benefit, just light it and go.Bathroom could be slightly bigger, you had to tilt your neck to one side while on the loo because of sink. But overall a lovely pleasant and peaceful stay, and we would come back.

  • "We loved our time here!"

The hut was so perfect and nestled away quietly in the fields over looking the water. Mandy was lovely and messaged before to ask if we wanted the hot tub lit before our arrival. The hut had everything we could have needed; a full size fridge/freezer, microwave, kettle, camping stove, all the towels/plates/bedding were provided along with milk and Prosecco, we couldn’t have asked for anymore! The location was ideal too, plenty to do in the area but the hut was so amazing we spent most of our afternoon sat in the hot tub in the sun with a bottle of bubbles! My only fault with it and it’s ever so minor, was the cat. Great if you like cats but I’m allergic so having the fluffy guy rubbing up on everything and scratching at the door in the early hours to get in wasnt so great. But again only minor and not at all a reflection of Mandy and her property, we would 100% come again and we will be recommending the stay to everyone we know! Thank you for such a pleasant weekend x

The hot tub is most definitely the best thing about the place. It’s on the small side so we recommend you not bringing too much luggage with you. It has everything you need pots and pans etc, the fridge is actually quite big which is a plus. We cooked one night and ate out another there are some lovely places to eat around the area. There is also a barbecue but we didn’t use it. The cats on the farm love to come and join you too, one sat on my knee which was lovely. It’s such a lovely romantic place to stay and at night looking up at the stars while in the hot tub!

  • "Perfect little getaway and just what we were looking for."

Although, being pregnant and already having a bad back didn’t work well with the bed being as uncomfortable as it was. Granted, it’s a space saving bed which replaces the dining area so of course we were not expecting top comfort, but in my condition we did have to go out and purchase an extra duvet to lie on for our second night. This was the only thing that let it down in our opinion but something that can’t really be helped. So just a warning to anyone planning to go - if you need that extra comfort during the night, pack an extra duvet for a bit more of a softer surface :) Other than that, lovely stay!

The hut is cosy (so don’t overpack!) and we had the benefit of glorious weather so we could eat outside and didn’t have to make up the bed into the table and chairs. The hut is equipped with enough pots and pans so you can do basic meals, and the lovely addition of Prosecco and milk to the fridge for our arrival was a lovely touch. The views are absolutely amazing, and sitting in the hottub overlooking the fields and reservoir is heaven. It’s great if your a pet lover as the friendly cats often paid us a visit! The hot tub was fantastic (Maddy can put it on in time for it to be hot when you arrive if you arrange this with her), and the hut lovely and warm with all the essentials. To find the place easily we used the coordinates from a previous review, so I've added a dropped pin to Google Maps so it should be searchable now. Hope that helps future holiday makers find it without a hassle in the dark as it's not signposted from the main road. Really lovely place, would be even better in summer as you could use the decking and outdoor furniture too. We must come back!

  • "We had a lovely 4 night stay in The Lazy Mare for my partners birthday."

The hot tub was lovely even in January and Mandy was kind enough to text us before arrival to ask if we would like it heated. The shepherds hut is exactly how it is described, really cute and stays very warm with the heater provided. The shower room is very small so if you are on the larger side then I wouldn't recommend it. The bed was surprisingly comfortable considering it is a convertible table and bench seats, however I do think an even thicker mattress topper would have helped. The duvet provided kept us very warm and cozy and we both slept well. There was a surprise bottle of prosecco waiting in the fridge for us too! The highlight of the stay was the farm cats coming up for a cuddle on the deck outside and the lovely black lab who came by on our last night for some belly rubs. :) I would highly recommend The Lazy Mare!

  • "Had a lovely 3 night stay with my partner in early December."

Needless to say, the hot tub was the highlight and an amazing treat even in winter - refreshingly crisp, cold air coupled with steaming, toasty water! We thought we would need heated blankets and hot water bottles to keep us warm in the hut, but actually the portable heater provided was already enough to keep us warm and cozy. Mandy was very welcoming and friendly, and just a text message away from bringing us more logs for the hot tub. There were also friendly cats and a dog that liked to come say hello. The hut also has plates/bowls/glasses/mugs/utensils all provided, and also basic pots and pans. There's also a good-sized fridge that has plenty of space to store several meals (though we mostly went out to restaurants, plus a takeaway from Infinitii on our last night who were able to deliver straight to the hut). We really enjoyed our stay and are thinking of coming back again one summer to experience the hut during warmer weather! PS. Warmly greeted by Mandy and her daughter, we were explained the ins and outs, and left to our own devices! No TV, WiFi or Internet connection, it was pure bliss and tranquility. We ventured out a couple of times, but quite frankly just enjoyed sitting out on the deck with a cuppa, chatting and playing games. The fire heated hot tub was the best ever! Mandy even text us before our arrival to see if we wanted it pre-heated, very thoughtful and I jumped at the offer. The tub was super toasty, and stayed warm enough to jump in first thing in the morning-and I took full advantage of this. Kitchen was well equipped for our needs, the fridge was much bigger than expected and we were able to fill it with more supplies. There was also a cheeky bottle of prosecco left for us and a bag of ice! An unexpected treat and very well received-nice touch that! The bed was a little hard, so 3 nights seemed a good amount of time to stay before any aches begin. Shower had a good pressure and heated quickly. I was worried with the recent cooler mornings/night I would get cold, but actually it stayed a very comfortable temperature throughout the day/night. And lastly, had regular visits from the resident and dog, super friendly and affectionate and just added to our wonderful stay. Highly recommend.
