  • "The best holiday cottage I have stayed in, and I have stayed in a lot all over the country."

Exceptionally clean very quiet and good standard of furnishings.I will definitely be back next year. As a constructive comment it would be good to have a handrail by the bath to help getting in or out 10/10

personally i'd have preferred the outside lights to not have been on all night but that's a minor thing. Really can't fault the cottage otherwise,we'll be back again next time we visit the peak District.

Liked the open plan aspect design with the huge space leading from the patio doors. Felt very safe and private with the electric doors into the main driveway. Perfect spot for my sister, me and my dog . Gorgeous walks very local around the reservoirs. Lots to do and explore. Thankyou !

  • "We stayed for one week at Holly Cottage and enjoyed our stay very much."

The Cottage is very comfortable and well equipped and really clever designed (including the rooflights in the upper floor and the underfloorheating in the ground floor). Everything is quite still new. When we entered the cottage, everything was clean and tidy. There is just one trifle: the basin in the main bathroom was a bit small so that a lot of water pours on the floor. As there seems to be enough space, perhaps this could be a subject to change. We can strictly recommend this cottage and would choose again when we come back in this region.

  • "We loved staying in Holly Cottage."

The directions and key collection instructions made for a smooth arrival process. We loved the general feel of the place and the facilities such as the fridge freezer, dishwasher and coffee machine were great. We also appreciated that we didn't need to bring or buy anything extra as everything from hand-wash to kitchen roll was available. Our son loved the enclosed outdoor space and loved running around on the grass. If there was one tiny niggle, it was that recycling instructions weren't clear from the outset so we ended up putting all of our rubbish into a black bin bag, only to find out on leaving day that it could have been recycled. A laminated note by the bin would have been useful. Thank you for a restful and stress-free holiday.

We were there to celebrate a family wedding locally and rented the next door cottage as well. Holly cottage was extremely comfortable, quiet and well equipped. We loved walking around the reservoir in the mornings and evenings. Fantastic pressure in the shower. I haven’t slept so well for ages!

It is well designed, nicely decorated and furnished and well equipped for holidaying guests. The owners are responsive but not intrusive and kindly left complimentary food and wine. There are electric gates for security, a bike shed, outdoor dining furniture, a hose for cleaning off muddy bikes or boots, and an electric vehicle charging point. The surroundings are beautiful with lovely walks around the two reservoirs from the doorstep. We’ll be back.

All are well designed & built, beautifully decorated, warm, well equipped, and very clean & comfortable. Holly Cottage was the smaller of the 3 but is still a great size and very cosy, with a view of the garden and the woods beyond, not to mention a great spot for night-time stargazing. It’s a wonderfully peaceful location, with fantastic walks right from the doorstep. The owners respond quickly and professionally should you have any queries. It's the perfect place in which to unwind and/or enjoy the great outdoors!

! I cannot give one fault with the accomadation at all :-) We will defiantely rent again and will suggest to friends and family. The only slight issue was that the sat Nav takes you to a different home, you need to advise guests to continue down to the bottom of the hill until you see the black gates.. but that really is the only thing.. this place is beautifully decorated and mainitained, possibly one of the best places Ive ever stayed.

Holly Cottage is one of 4 high end old saw mill conversions. Really nicely appointed, very private and lounge window looks out on garden and woods. It’s a lovely place to spend a relaxing holiday. Very secure, access is through electric gates, beautiful walks literally on the door step. It’s a car journey to the pub, however loads of great pubs in the area and most are dog friendly. Low and High Bradfield a short drive away, we’ll worth a visit. Lunchtime special in the Plough £6.50 and they serve Bradfield beer. The only thing I didn’t like was it’s got an adjoining door with Oak cottage, open if you book both cottages. You could just hear the neighbours through the door if they had the tv on too loud. It is mentioned in the description and probably a great feature for 2 families holidaying together. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would book again. High standards again from Sykes Cottages.

  • "This is our second stay at these lovely cottages."

We stayed at Chestnut Cottage in October 2021. The cottages are really elegant and comfortable in a delightful and peaceful location. Great for local walks and also a good base for exploring the rest of the peak district. Three local supermarkets in Stocksbridge make self catering very easy. Holly cottage is the smallest (we were late making our booking this year) but is still more than adequate and once again we had a delightful stay. I should have reviewed Chestnut Cottage last October. It would have got 5 stars across the board, but our beloved German Shephard (Scooby) passed away a couple of days after our return and I couldn't think about the holiday at the time as it was too raw. Belated thank you to the owners for our wonderful stay last year.

The cottage was lovely with everything we needed. Although it was a bit remote from places and you had to drive everywhere it was ideal for us with all the places to walk our dog especially around the reservoirs. We were also only 20miles from where our son now lives so we’re able to see him more than usual.

It was a lovely stay and the added touches of Christmas trees were wonderful for a festive break. The owners were in touch and were helpful during the stay as there were a few probs with back and patio doors. This is our second stay in 2021 and would definitely recommend. • "We stayed at Holly Cottage to avoid the stress and inconvenience whilst out kitchen was being removed prior to a refit."

It was certainly a relaxing place to stay: clean, warm, cosy, thoughtfully furnished and well equipped. A few complimentary items made us feel very welcome. The location was wonderful - but then we knew that as we live quite nearly. There are some great walks right from the door. Our stay was in November but in warmer weather, the outside space would be very nice. A couple of negatives: the 4G Popup was very poor. If you wanted to do some work which relied on the internet, it wouldn’t be suitable. Also a very poor phone signal (at least on O2) meant you couldn’t contact others - including the owners if necessary - from the cottage itself. Not a problem if you really want to get away from it all. As for the kitchen area, there was very little storage space for food. The fridge was tiny, with a small freezer area and the drawers and cupboards were all full. There were no instructions for the appliances so using the cooker and microwave involved guesswork. Although we didn’t use them, I imagine the same applies to the dishwasher and washing machine. This last issue could easily be rectified. In spite of these issues, we would definitely recommend this lovely cottage for a peaceful and comfortable retreat.

Just a few suggestions, there wasn't much storage space for food, I would have expected more freezer space. There were no instructions for the washer/ drier, which was lovely to have but I would have liked a clothes rack as more sustainable. The lock was broken on the downstairs toilet, the property would benefit from black out blinds in the bedroom and the right-hand side blind didn't close fully in the main bedroom.

Done up to a high standard, everything brand new. Loved having both the back and front patio to choose from depending on where the sun was. Owners very friendly and helpful. We took a walk around the reservoir which was beautiful. Such a peaceful setting. Only feedback I would give is to fit blackout blinds to the velux windows as the rooms were very bright from quite early on in the morning. But we would definitely stay here again. Just stunning.
