  • "Very comfortable property."

Well equipped, plenty of parking . Nice and quiet

  • "Immaculate cottage (everything appears brand new) in a very good location for visiting the area with Bakewell, Ashbourne and Leek all within 30 mins."

drive. Some nice walks in the local area. The nearest pub and shop is in Ipstones which is about 2/2.5 miles away, not one mile as stated on the Sykes site. We dropped one star due to the walking distance to Ipstones, and that the cottage can appear a little dull. These are, however, personal points and should not detract from excellent accommodation which is ideal for two people.

The cottage has clearly been refurbished fairly recently to a very high standard and all the interior was very modern. The interior was spotlessly clean and tidy and the central heating was comfortable. We can highly recommend the cottage and would love to stay there in the future.

  • "The cottage was extremely clean and had everything you could need."

The public footpaths near by were not used much and had overgrown trees etc, but you could walk the quiet roads. There is also a lovely little village nearby, Froghall, which had a very nice cafe and canal walk.

  • "A peaceful and beautiful place to visit, we very much enjoyed our week away."

There are lots of interesting places to visit in the local area, it is about a 15 minute drive to Alton Towers, the Peak District is about the same in the other direction, we liked Hartington and Bakewell. Lots of places to go for a walk. We also enjoyed a visit to the Gladstone Pottery Museum in Stoke on Trent of Great Pottery Throw Down fame, a good rainy day thing to do. The cottage itself was immaculately clean and very comfortable, with everything you might need. We mostly ate out, and recommend the Marquis of Granby Pub in Ipstones, you need to book!

  • "We stayed at Moorlands Farm Cottage from 01st to 08th July 2023 and had a picture perfect week."

The cottage itself had everything you could need and there was biscuits, tea and coffee as a welcome from the owners Sue and Joen, who were lovely people, helpful but never in your face. Their dog Poppy was lovely too and always came to say hello. The surrounding grounds of the cottage were magical in itself and the views were simply awesome. There were plenty of places that we visited whilst we were there ie Butterton, Thor's Cave, Manifold Valley, Ilam and Ilam Park, Kedleston Hall, Cheadle, Peak Wildlife Park, Ipstones Edge, Hetty's Tea Room, Froghall Wharf Walks, Wetton Mill and so on. We viewed from up in the Heavens to down in the Valleys and saw some of the most awesome beautiful scenery. We are very much looking forward to going back to Moorlands Farm Cottage as once was definately not enough. We will be back :) This was a 5***** holiday experience. Thank you. • "Just to agree with the previous feedback that the cars passing close to the cottage was unexpected as were the children and horses."

For me did not not cause a problem but to other people it might as privacy was not always possible.

  • "Lovely location."

Great kitchen. Beautiful grounds with views. Really enjoyed the outside space available. Unfortunately we were disturbed a lot by noise of children shrieking and horses galloping right by the living room windows by the farm in the evenings which was unexpected and would probably prevent us returning.

Thank you for your feedback. We own a livery yard and yes, horses are ridden up and down our drive but would be unable to gallop on our drive. It would be totally impossible. Property Owner

We were really comfortable there, very peaceful and quiet. The kitchen was very well equipped, which was very important to us, as we like to cook our own hot meals after a long day of hiking. Property is just like the pictures. We got instructions from owner on finding the place prior to arrival, and key collection was easy. Thank you Sue for having us.

  • "Overall we were very happy with the Cottage, it was very clean on arrival, comfortable and well equipped."

It is located off the beaten track with a long drive and steep approach down to the cottage, however it does have some remarkable views. A previous review did mention the noise from vehicles going to the stable close to the property and its true there is some noise but during our time there it seemed to be only a couple of times a day when the owners where getting the horses up in the morning and putting them to bed in the evening! It does get a bit dusty on the track down and near the parking area. We loved the cottage, the surroundings and owner Sue was very friendly.

  • "The cottage was very well appointed and comfortable."

A couple of points to note: it would benefit from a few more warm rugs as the floors are a marble type and very cold, but also just to be more cosy; also, the kitchen worktop area is dark and needs task lighting particularly as the sink is black. As it's situated on a farm the noise from chickens was to be expected and did not bother us, however we were not expecting the to and from of vehicles which went past our windows made worse by the gravel drive which increased the noise level. It seemed to be in relation to stabling on the property which created daily activity. The farmhands coming in and out at all hours up to well after midnight was disturbing the peace and quiet of the place. Also farmhands coming back and sitting in their car outside smoking gave an uncomfortable atmosphere as this is a holiday let. The property itself I would recommend; however, it was not the peaceful, rural idyll I would have expected. The property to let at the rear has a quieter and more peaceful aspect as it does not overlook the owner's car parking area and is not adjacent to the road through the farm.

It was fully equipped with as new appliances. We were greeted with a very welcoming smile and a full explanation of everything we asked about It really felt like home and warm and very comfortable. After a long day out in the Peaks it was a pleasure to return to and relax. We were left alone with very little contact with Sue, we felt very trusted in the cottage, but Sue was always on hand if we needed anything. To sum up the cottage and the owners were superb and made for the most enjoyable break. I would not hesitate to recommend the cottage and the family to anyone looking for a stress free holiday. Please pass on our thanks to all involved who made our break so memorable. Best Regards Don and Sue Dorman (Diss Norfolk)

The owner greeted us and was very helpful with local knowledge and handy hints. The Welcome pack was a lovely surprise. Included was toiletries, washing up liquid, hand-wash, hand gel also good quality tea, coffee and biscuits. WiFi was a bit iffy but we put this down to the remoteness of the cottage. My only issue was the distance to the local pub. It was further than 1mile and included an uphill climb. Not for the faint hearted. We would to come back again.

Sue and John were extremely friendly hosts, yet were not constantly hovering. they were happy for us to wander around the farm and answered any questions we had about the running of the place. Sue also made suggestions as to which were the best places to visit. I know that for some people WIFI would be a problem, you can get it in the bedroom, so it is not non existent, but for us it was not a problem, we wanted peace away from the humdrum world. the cottage was lovely and everything was spotless. Sue provided all the basic household equipment. we were very sad to leave. best relaxation we have had for years. will definitely recommend it to anyone.
