"We had an absolutely lovely short stay in the cottage which was very well equipped with everything you could need!"
The cottage itself was charming and well maintained, the excellent shower was very much appreciated after a day of walking! We thoroughly enjoyed our time there!

"We had a lovely time."
Cottage had everything we needed and was very cosy. Good location for exploring the peaks and we found most of the time we could park nearby.
One of the main lights in the kitchen seems to be broken which makes washing up a bit dark.
Sykes were terrible to communicate with and I'd avoid booking with them again. You can't call them beforehand. So had to go through Whatsapp where it mainly seemed to be AI trying to end the chat. I wanted to check the size of cot - as it said there wasn't a mattress so I therefore needed to bring one. I couldnt get a reply till 12 days later on the day we were leaving. Then they came back to me but told me the wrong dimensions! I think they must have just made it up.

"We enjoyed a lovely stay at Alma Road with our dog."
The cottage was cosy and clean. The kitchen was a good size with plenty of utensils. Our bed in the main bedroom was very comfortable with a good sized walk in wardrobe. The central heating was easy to use. Unfortunately the outdoor brush was broken at the back, and the garden needs some TLC. The towels were clean but well worn and need replacing. Overall we liked it.

"The property was beautifully presented and much larger than on the photos ."
Beds very comfortable, living room and kitchen well equipped. Parking was never an issue down the road in the lovely village . The only niggle was the mould in the bathroom, on the walls and around the bath. The outside of the property could do with a good price up, we had some lovely weather but the little courtyard was uninviting , needing a wash down.

"We enjoyed our stay at Alma Road."
The cottage was cosy and comfortable and ideally located to visit all of the sites we planned to see including Mam Tor, Stanage Edge and Lyme. We had everything we needed for our stay and found the cottage relaxing to return to after a long walk. We only managed to park in the layby at the top of the road twice in a week, but there were always spaces available further down the road and in the village as explained in the description. Over all we enjoyed our stay and found the cottage comfortable however we feel it was let down by the bathroom which has a mould problem (as did all rooms around the window ledges) and lack of deep cleaning- the essentials were clean and hygienic, but there were thick layers of dust elsewhere, e.g. around the bed and the bathroom extractor fan.

"The only item missing was a hairdryer."
There was a box for it in the bedroom drawers but it was empty!
My main issue was the pillows on the bed were awful and it did mean I found it difficult to sleep despite the comfortable mattress.
I found cobwebs in the bathroom above the bath and there was mould around the window and some on the walls. Maybe partly due to the extractor fan needs cleaning out.

"Our 3rd stay at this property and enjoyed our stay again."
Just a few things I feel the owner should know. Firstly the toaster is faulty and blows the fuse. Had to hunt round for the fuse box to turn electric back on. The coffee machine has a piece missing . Couldn't find the hairdryer. Apart from that we loved our stay.

"This is a cosy comfortable well-equipped cottage with a nice atmosphere."
The only drawback is the parking which is not directly outside the cottage and can sometimes mean a bit of trek when loading or unloading or if you have a young baby (as we did) . It was very simple to hire via Sykes Cottages direct and I would recommend this.

"The first and most lasting impression of the cottage was the damp smell emanating from under the stairs."
There were several annoying problems that stemmed from poor maintenance and a lack of upkeep. Bulbs not replaced, broken lighting system in kitchen.
The welcome pack consisted of an out of date pint of milk!
The smart TV was a nice touch but a lot more instructions would have been useful in getting it going.
The 'garden' was NOT suitable for a dog or sitting out in as it was unkempt, dark and miserable.
Carpet, rug and sofa covers were in need of cleaning.
Having said that, the bed was very comfortable as were the sofas. The bathroom and shower were excellent.
Thank you for your feedback and we apologise if the cottage was not as well prepared as it should have been for you. We use a management company for the change-overs and maintenance and will be contacting them to find out why it was not adequately prepared on this occasion to ensure it does not happen again.

"The cottage is very comfortable, nicely decorated and warm."
We didn't have a problem with parking nearby. There were a few things which would have made our stay at the cottage even better though.
There were no contact details for the cottage so when the TV remote control batteries died on the last night we couldn't let anyone know - there were no spares to be found in the cottage either.
There is a Smart TV but no terrestrial aerial so as this was our first experience of a Smart TV we could only watch what we wanted to on the iPlayer! The TV played up a few times as well.
There are very few utensils in the kitchen - removing poached eggs from boiling water with an egg slice was quite tricky! There were no egg cups (mentioned a few times in the Housekeeping Book), pan scourers, kitchen roll or the odd bit of foil and a spare toilet roll. Little things that just make life easier.
We didn't use the back yard as the weather was a little damp - but there is shared access for the neighbours through the back of the houses - not that we saw anyone though. Overall a nice little cottage.

"We were very disappointed when we arrived at the cottage as it was the least welcoming we had ever been in."
We arrived on a very cold snowy day. There was a week out of date pint of milk in the fridge, a tiny bit of watered down washing up liquid under the sink and not the starter pack for the wood burner that was supposed to be included. There was very little hand soap and someone’s medication in the kitchen cupboard. The courtyard has full access from the next door neighbour which they use regularly to walk through to their garden so there is no privacy when in the kitchen or garden and could have made it difficult for anyone with a dog.
You can only access television through live streamed channels which may not be ideal for everyone. Also the tv is very small.
Thank you for your feedback and we apologise that the cottage was not as well prepared as it should have been for your arrival. We use a management company for the change-overs and will be contacting them to find out why it was not done properly on this occasion to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Beds comfy, great kitchen (bar a couple of missing bits but nothing major!), powerful shower, everything you want for a few days away.
Location is great- you’re a short drive to all the major walks and sights so a great base.
Only thing to mention is it didn’t feel like it had been properly professional cleaned before we arrived (didn’t bother us at all but others may expect)

"We very much enjoyed our stay at 4 Alma Road, Tideswell."
It is a cosy cottage with comfortable seating downstairs and a very comfortable bed upstairs. The heating worked well as did the shower. The kitchen was reasonably well equipped, although there were a few items we needed that weren't there like egg cups, a mixing bowl and scales. A light at the back of the house would be useful, too. Otherwise, it is a good place to stay. It is well situated to walk into the village and we enjoyed two visits to The Star for meals where we were welcomed warmly. We also had a meal at The Merchant's Yard which was nice but more formal. The village bakery is worth a visit.
We enjoyed our holiday very much and would recommend the cottage as a good place to stay.

"The cottage was very nice and in a great location, parking was a bit of a squeeze on the road but the market square was 2 minutes away and had plenty of parking available so no issues there."
I've been to tideswell several times before and was really looking forward to my stay. Unfortunately there were a few things that weren't so great which really let the place down. The major issue was that the shower did not work. From reading the guest book found at the cottage it was obvious that this was an ongoing issue which had yet to be fixed, which begs the question why is the property still being let with a broken shower?? I did contact sykes customer service about about this to attempt to remedy the situation but after an initial phone call to them to explain the issue I heard nothing back from them or the owner.
Other issues were minor annoyances but added up to a general feeling of poor management, especially when paying nearly £400 for a two night stay!.....dog poo in the garden (not great with a 3 year old running around), bare minimum of utensils for cooking, one single tea towel and no spare bin bags for a weekend stay.....
Overall this could be a great cottage in a really nice part of the peak district but it definitely needs work to bring it up to standard.
Hi there, Im really sorry to hear about the issues you have had with your stay at Alma road. There has been an ongoing issue with the shower which we have been doing our best to remedy. We have had a plumber out twice and had had to wait for a specialist engineer and parts. We had requested that Sykes let everyone coming in August know about the problem so they were aware before arriving and I understood that they had emailed. Im really sorry if this didn't reach you. As there was a bath in the property we felt that it was ok to honour the bookings made as long as people were aware. Im sorry this wasn't the case. Im also sorry if there was dog poo in the courtyard, I will ask that our management team check in future when they are there and also that more bin bags are left. We are new owners and really appreciate the time you have taken to write a review so we can continue to improve the cottage and peoples stay.

"Alma Road is a nice cottage in a good location and was good value for money."
Living room is comfortable and smart TV was a bonus, kitchen had everything you needed. Would stay again if shower was in working order and loud plumbing noises resolved.
Key point to note is the listing states enclosed garden however fails to mention the neighbouring house has to walk through Alma Roads courtyard to get access to the rest of their garden - they also have a dog and there is only a small picket fence separating both gardens. Wasn’t an issue for us but for others it may be - listing should state this clearly incase of nimble dogs ir dogs who are not friendly with other dogs.
Hi there, thanks so much for taking the time to write a review. Im really sorry about the problems you experienced with the shower. We have been working to get it fixed but it has been more complicated than we had hoped and is requiring a specialist engineer to visit. We had requested that all guests in August we made aware of the issues and we understood that Sykes had emailed guests to make them aware that there was only a bath. Im really sorry if this didn't reach you. We will update the listing to make sure it is clearer about the garden. Thank you again Best wishes Sarah
