  • "Stunning cottage, a real home away from home."

Lovely welcome pack waiting for us on arrival which was much appreciated. Everywhere was so clean & tidy. Beds very comfortable. There were 4 adults, 2 children, a dog & there was more than enough room for us all. The location was great & the parking space really handy. I would definitely stay here again & have already recommended to family & friends. Thanks for a great stay :)

  • "Castleton is our favourite village in the Peak District and this was the second time that we have stayed at the excellent Grange Cottage."

It meets our essential requirements, dog friendly, enclosed rear garden and dedicated off-road parking. The cottage is very comfortable and the kitchen is comprehensively equipped. The welcome pack was very generous and included a bottle of wine, a cake, dog biscuits and ground coffee. We have no hesitation in recommending Grange Cottage as great place to stay.

Dear Tony Thank you so so very much for such lovely feedback! It means so much to me and also to know you’ve had a lovely time. Fab to hear that it is a return visit and also thank you for leaving the cottage so clean and tidy and the pumpkins made me smile! Would love to welcome you back very soon! • "Nice cottage, great location and lovely welcome pack and great communication from the owners."

Lovely lady. Was let down however by the following: - needed a much more thorough clean. Seemed to only have had a quick do-over by the cleaners. Crumbs on kitchen table, cobwebs for example. Coffee cup stains on bedside table. - slugs coming in under a gap at the back door during the night leaving trails across the kitchen. - some maintenance required; roller blind in living room chain broken held together with wire that needed several repairs during the stay. No light bulb above bed in the small bedroom. Shower head leaking and squirting out from sides which was frustrating. Garden was overgrown and tired and needed some tlc. Not major issues, didn’t spoil holiday and all very easy to sort but would make a big difference.

Dear John So sorry to read your feed back, however I’m about confused about crumbs on the table as I put a fresh table cloth on as I do for every stay so I don’t know where they would have come from. Thank you for pointing out the shower, I will investigate that issue and of the wildlife in the kitchen? Yes unfortunately the blind was broken by previous guests and impossible to get a replacement before your stay. Yes it’s been a good growing season and yes I need to get on top of the over growth but I do believe it’s still a pretty garden, and thinking back the Friday change over was a wet day so I was unfortunately unable to cut the grass. I did find you left the cottage very untidy with your dirty pots on the side and a full dishwasher full of again unwashed items! And the over all state of the house left was very untidy and I would never go away and leave a property in the state you left the cottage. As for the WiFi which works perfectly if you read the code correctly behind the router?! We also was kept waiting 45 minutes for you to vacate the property at 10.45!! In which we thought the property would have been left clean and tidy but no hope there! Many thanks for your feedback Julia Property Owner

Owner left lots of nice treats for us and the dogs. We’ll located in the village. Private note to the owner. The bannisters are a bit wobbly (and the hand rail on the left does not go to the top of stairs). One of our group needed the support to walk up/down the stairs which is why we noticed this. It may give you issues In the future.

Thank you for your feed back and to “ private note to the owner” we were on texting terms as you asked for a later check out, in which I obliged? The stair hand rail is the size for the stairs and previous guests do pull on the bannister, but I have now made it more firmer. I was scored points off for cleanliness ?? I did find the cottage left with dirty crockery and my sofa throws used as dog beds, bearing in mind you brought two dogs rather than one! I could go on as I was shocked at how like I say found the cottage. But many thanks and kind regards. Julia Property Owner

This is our third stay here, it is simply the best cottage we have ever stayed at. The location is exceptional, on a lovely road that is two minutes from Cavedale and the centre of Castleton. It is as stunning on the inside as it is on the outside with tasteful decor, the most comfortable sofas and beds. The window seats and log burner are my favourites. From the fully enclosed garden, there are views of Mam Tor and Lose Hill to gaze at while drinking our morning coffee - pure bliss. The cottage is immaculately clean and there are the most gorgeous personal touches that just make the stay so special. We loved the wine and chocolate cake, our dog loved his treats- happy days. The owner goes above and beyond to make this a special place to stay. Loved every minute of staying there, it is our happy place and cannot wait for our next stay.

  • "Cottage comfortable but disappointed in the cleanliness of the kitchen in particular i."

E cutlery drawer dirty/greasy so needed to wash cutlery before using, cupboard where glasses were stored, had dead wood lice in which had obviously been there for some time, inside of oven not that clean so didn’t use, inside microwave door dirty so didn’t use and shelf missing from inside fridge door. Fridge didn’t look that clean either. Just meant we felt we needed to pre wash crockery etc. prior to using anything. The throws provided in the lounge smelled of dogs. There was a general smell of dirty cooking fat when entering the house. The rope handrail up the stairs looked dirty/greasy so didn’t use this. The 5.30am alarm call every morning from the neighbouring cockerel was also unexpected especially being in a built up area and not the middle of nowhere.

I’m sorry to read your feed back and in response, I’m sorry I didn’t buff all the cutlery up but a assure you it was clean. I check the cupboards each week and there was no wood louse when I did! The missing shelf was broke by a previous guest as in the oven all the scratches on the bottom but still cleaned weekly. I have a good sense of smell and I couldn’t smell a strong cooking smell or dog smell in the living room. Yes the rope hand rail may be getting ready for replacing but certainly not greasy and is disinfected weekly! As for the wildlife I’m so sorry I have no control of. We are a farming community. I am so sorry all this ruined your holiday and your stay, and going on my other reviews I hope this doesn’t effect my future booking and I assure my other guests that I will keep my high standards and really don’t understand why these guests didn’t contact me with their concerns?? Maybe it was the compensation they have asked for! Deepest apologies Julia Property Owner

Grange Cottage is within easy walking distance of four dog friendly pubs and the village shop. The cottage is also dog friendly, with an enclosed rear garden. The cottage has been furnished and decorated with great attention to detail. It is warm, inviting and cosy, and the kitchen is well equipped. The bedrooms are very comfortable and the bathroom is modern and attractive. The dedicated parking space opposite the front door is particularly welcome, as parking in the village is problematic at weekends. We are keen to stay at Grange Cottage again, and would highly recommend it.

The owner was very considerate, contacting us before by text, then leaving us some milk, a beautiful bunch of tulips and prosecco as a welcome gift

  • "This was our second stay in Grange Cottage and we absolutely love it - a real home from home."

The little touches like handwash, flowers, tea, coffee and milk on arrival make it all the better. The whole house is extremely comfortable and well appointed with a completely secure garden front and back for the dogs. To have a parking space opposite is also a massive bonus. The location is fabulous, just a couple of minutes walk from the village centre amenities including countless pubs, Blue John shops, a bakers and a post office/shop. The only thing I will mention is that it's probably not that suitable for people with mobility issues, as the hill up to the cottage, although not long, is quite steep. My Mum has arthritis and she did find it a bit hard going. However, it is in the Peak District, so you have to expect hills!! Will definitely be back next year :)
