"Lovely cottage near the centre of the village, very well maintained and comfortable."
The fittings and fixtures are to a high standard, and the replacement windows and doors were of excellent quality, being in keeping with the cottage and also very efficient in keeping out drafts and outside noise. The layout was interesting with period features such as beams, large stone fireplace and remains of a stone spiral staircase as architectural interest. The cottage was laid out in a traditional style, with separate living room, utility room, downstairs wc, and kitchen/diner. 3 bedrooms and family shower room (no bath) upstairs, There was a communal wardrobe on the landing, but we would have preferred wardrobes in the bedrooms for convenience. The gardens are small but useable with table and chairs in the rear area. The parking area to the front is big enough for two medium sized cars, but the access road is very narrow so care is needed manoeuvring onto the hardstanding. The owners have removed the gates to assist with this. The bushes could be cut back to help further, in which case a larger second car could get in. The owners have provided lots of information about the cottage in well organised folders, the only thing we needed to ask about was the PIN code for the Sky TV. The cottage is full of books and thoughtful touches such as warm blankets in the living room to snuggle up with in front of the fire. We all felt we would love to live in this cottage full time, which is the best recommendation I can give!
Thank you very much for such a comprehensive review. We really appreciate feedback and we are delighted in particular to hear your last comment. So pleased you enjoyed Castleton and the cottage and hope you might visit again sometime. Judith and Julian Property Owner

"Excellent cottage and probably the best we have stayed in for a walking holiday."
The utility room for boots and coats was great. The cottage was well equipped throughout. Great location for walking and we only took the car out once. Shops and restaurants were only a few minutes away. The 1560 Italian Restaurant 5 minutes away was fabulous. I have already been recommending the cottage to my walking friends. We will definitely be back.
Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back sometime. Judith and Julian Property Owner

"This was a lovely holiday cottage - one of the best we have stayed in."
It was really helpful having a PDF of all the necessary information emailed to us beforehand as well as having it at the cottage. The cottage had all the necessary equipment and plenty to do and read when the weather was bad. It was clean, comfortable and cosy, the garden had places to sit when the sun shone and it was a good base both for walking or exploring further afield. Castleton is in a very scenic area - the views were superb. We were able to fit 2 small cars on the front as my husband and daughter are excellent drivers but owners of larger cars could find it tricky as the cul-de-sac is narrow.
Many thanks for your lovely review, we’re very pleased you enjoyed it. We look forward to welcoming you back sometime soon. Property Owner

"The most beautiful cottage in the middle of Castleton."
Close enough to the centre but blissfully quiet. Spacious cottage, fully equipped and so comfortable, you forget you're in a 'holiday house'. I agree with other reviews which mention the mattress in the main room being too squishy. But all in all we would love to come back.
Thank you for your lovely comments. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back. Thanks also for your feedback on the mattress. The comfort of our guests is of the highest priority for us and we acquired this medium firm mattress from the John Lewis classics range last year with that in mind. In view of comments though particularly about softness we are currently reviewing options to enhance guest comfort for the future. Thank you Julian & Judith Property Owner

"The cottage was really lovely, very comfortable and clean, with everything we could need for our week."
We especially liked the quirky, original features, like the old staircase and fireplace, which gives the place character. We enjoyed sitting in the garden and having the river close by. It’s a great location for enjoying the village, including pubs and restaurants and walking locally. Would definitely book again.

"Thank you for a lovely week in your cottage."
Great location, with everything easily available. 2 min walk to cafes, pubs and popular walking spots. Kids enjoyed the books, games, Netflix and Decor and enjoyed walking next door to see the rabbits and grab a drink. Could have easily stayed for longer. Only thing we would say was mattresses r probably due for an upgrade, but we r fussy sleepers, apart from that everything was spot on and would definitely book again.
Many thanks for your feedback, so glad you enjoyed the cottage. We look forward to seeing you again sometime. Judith and Julian Property Owner

"We found the cottage very easily, the instructions were very clear and precise."
The car we travelled in is only a standard four door hatchback but parking was tight and a second car of the same dimensions would struggle to get parked. Access to the cottage was again as instructed by the owners with the main keys placed were they were supposed to be. The cottage was comfortable but due to the nature of the building quite dark even on a sunny day. Again due to the type of building, we thought on arrival that the atmosphere was "musty" and un-used. The kitchen is well equipped and the bedrooms very comfortable. Bathroom was very modern and clean with the groundfloor bathroom a bonus. The only downside we found was that a light was out in the lounge area, the bathroom skylight was difficult to open and externally, the garden umbrella could not be used as one of the arms was broken and laid on the table adjacent.
Thank you for your kind comments and apologies for the maintenance issues which have been attended to so thank you for pointing these out. We would like guests to feel they can use the contact numbers we provide if matters come to light, and we will do our utmost to resolve such matters during their stay. We have always regarded the parking at the property to be a particular advantage given the premium on parking in Castleton and the property’s proximity to the centre of this picturesque peak village. As access is from a single-track lane which is not uncommon for a village of this nature we would urge care when parking. Notwithstanding this at 4.5 metres wide and 5.8 metres deep the parking area is as wide and deeper than two standard parking spaces and we have regularly parked two vehicles, an SUV and a smaller saloon car together here over the last 16 years. In order to facilitate parking, particularly of a second vehicle, we have removed the five bar gates. Many thanks Julian and Judith Property Owner

"We found the cottage to be very comfortable and well-equipped."
We especially liked the garden at the rear of the property, with the stream running behind it. The property proved to be a very convenient base for day trips to other parts of the Peak District and Derbyshire. We would happily stay there again.
Thank you for your lovely comments. We look forward to welcoming you back sometime. Property Owner

"We had a lovely stay at Trickett Gate Cottage & the area around Castleton is wonderful."
We would return to this cottage as its very comfortable, in a perfect location on the edge of the village in a quiet lane and the owners have been incredibly thoughtful in everything they provide. The negative accuracy of listing is because there is no freezer ! Sykes have a fridge /freezer listed in your description of the property. We have never stayed anywhere without a freezer in about 35 years of renting cottages and this is something that the owners may wish to address ? The other negative is that there is no mention in the description of the low ceilings & the very low and actually dangerous doorway to the utility room & cloakroom. We are a family of 4 adults and we all hit our heads on the top of this doorway (in the mornings, not just after a beer
Dear Katie We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Trickett Gate Cottage and we hope to welcome you back some time to enjoy more of the local area. Thank you for your feedback which we welcome and will always endeavour to make things better as a result. I hope you can accept our apologies over the freezer and the inconvenience it caused you. We replaced all the kitchen appliances just before your visit and inadvertently the fridge/freezer was replaced with a fridge. Of course, we understand our guests will need access to a freezer and your feedback at the time of your visit allowed us to rectify this oversight immediately after your stay such that the property has been equipped with a mini freezer ever since so many thanks for that. Sorry also to hear about the bumped heads. We would obviously not want a recurrence and we have installed a warning sign and referred to this in our Welcome Pack. We hope that guests will enjoy the charm of this historic little entry which features in a local guidebook without the risk of bumping their heads. As parts of the cottage are medieval in origin the ceilings are beamed and lower than modern day ceilings as with many cottages in the area. We took care when photographing the property to give an accurate representation of these historic features, in particular the beamed living room and the small door to achieve a balance between reflecting the charm of the features and the comfort and convenience of our guests. We will of course review this with Sykes in light of your comments. Thanks again. Julian and Judith Property Owner

"Loved all the extras eg dishwasher tablets, washing powder and so on."
It is a lovely cottage & we had a wonderful stay, thank you. The only comment about comfort was it was a little hot at night (I think the duvets were perhaps a little thick) and there were one or two cobwebs in areas but these were minor. Thank you
We’re very glad that you had a good stay. Thank you for your feedback which is always useful. Summer duvets will be available in the future Property Owner

"We had a lovely stay at Trickett Gate Cottage."
The house was comfortable and well equipped. We enjoyed breakfast outside in the garden next to the stream with the occasional duck visitor. Castleton has lots to do and lovely walks from the door. You are also well placed for other attractions in the Peak District. The only thing I would mention is that the parking is tight for 2 cars, so you need to be a confident driver to navigate it. That said, off road parking is a huge benefit, as it is very few and far between in properties here given the age of Castleton. I would definitely book again, and really didn't want to leave. Also, look out for the fossils in the wall near the drain pipe at the front of the property!
Many thanks for your feedback, we’re very happy you had a lovely time and look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Property Owner
