"A lovely comfortable clean cottage."
Very well equipped. And the home made cake on arrival was a real treat. Location to the town was ideal for a stroll out to the local restaurants in the evenings. Our dogs didn’t mind the extra walk to do their ‘business’ either.

"Great stay - easy to find and well organized, with everything we needed."
Thank you!
-
"We really enjoyed our stay, it’s a great spot for doing things in the peaks and the village had good pubs and shops."
We found the bed to be extremely comfy, the kitchen set up was great, and having the drying area in the cellar would have been handy if it had been wet.
-
"Only disappointment was that you had to take the dog for a walk when he wanted to go out."
Couldn't let him out the back for a wee. Other than that it was very good.
-
"One of the best places we've stayed in, it's an actual home from home"
-
"Lovely well equipped and comfy cottage."
Good location to go out and about and walk into the village for a drink or something to eat.
-
"Lovely cottage, the photos really don't do it justice as it is much bigger than they suggest."
Even the tvs seem to have grown! Very comfortable and the cellar/drying room with a Belfast sink and dog towels is a real bonus for muddy dogs/walking boots. I would suggest that it is made clearer that the owners do not allow dogs upstairs as if you have an anxious dog this could be a problem. They also are not allowed to toilet on the only enclosed space. These things are good to know before you book. Very good situation, close to Castleton and two National Trust properties.

"Property was easy to find, parking was available with no issues."
Nicely equipped kitchen with all you need. Lovely to be able to have a cuppa when we got there plus a great addition of a tasty home made cake . Very handy for lots of lovely places to visit
Very many thanks for your kind words. We are very glad you enjoyed your stay at Carters Cottage and of course the cake! We know that very many of our guests have travelled quite a distance to get to us and we like for you to have the ability for a cuppa and cake the second you walk in. Martyn and Sheena Property Owner

"We had a lovely stay at Carters cottage, the property had everything we needed for a home away from home!"
Martyn was very helpful in contacting beforehand to ensure we had directions and instructions for the property, along with some local recommendations, the perfect host! Looking forward to returning in the future!
Thank for your lovely comments. Looking forward to your return. Property Owner

"The property was very cean and comfortable, in a very good location."
Welcome pack for us and treat for our 2 dogs was lovely and adds that personal touch. Allocated space on car park wasnt always available, so had to use other parking spaces, hopefully no one complained. Will definitely go back.
Thanks very much for the great feedback. Sorry about the parking. Everyone has their own space as well! Property Owner

"Lovely cottage."
Very clean and lovely furnishings. Very well equipped. The photos don’t do the property justice. It is a truly lovely cottage and in an area of outstanding beauty. We also found the owner to be very helpful and considerate. We would definitely like to stay here again and I would definitely recommend it.
Very many thanks for the kind words. We are really pleased you were happy , both with the cottage and the area. We look forward to seeing you again. Property Owner

"The cottage is delightful and the owners have taken care to provide everything you need, with good linen and towels."
The beds were very comfortable. The cottage has a lovely atmosphere. The only thing we were unhappy about was having one set of keys so when I took the dog for a walk I had to leave the backdoor unlocked. I would have thought a back door key could have been left on a hook near the back door. Also with one set of keys, normally kept in the front door, it means you have to exit from the back door in an emergency. They cake and milk in the fridge was very thoughtful. Marie-Therése Shennan

"Beautifully decorated cottage, really comfortable and super clean."
Wet room on ground floor very nice shower. A few more steps especially out back than expected but a perfect location for exploring the Peak District. Extremely nice and helpful owners plus they left us a cake. Can't get better than that.
Very many thanks for the kind words. We are really pleased you were happy , both with the cottage and the cake!!. Property Owner

"We enjoyed our stay in Carters Cottage."
It is well appointed particularly for those enjoying outdoor activities. With the use of a leaflet from the local tourist office discovered walks from the as well as the ones slightly further afield. Fosters Deli in Chapel provides a good range of cooked foods and other foodie treats.
Very glad you had a good stay at Carter’s Cottage. The library and tourist centre have some great info. We had been advised to remove books which included our local guides and walks due to Covid. These books are now back in the property. Thanks for the review. Property Owner

"Lovely tea cake spacious rooms."
Traffic could be a bit noisy when the windows were open. Very good Wi-Fi. Great location for the Dark Peak We know that it wasn’t the usual cleaner. But we found a few items left by the previous visitors and a number of cobwebs. Owners were very helpful when a light bulb needed changing.

"We had a lovely stay here."
The cottage was very well equipped and the welcome cake and dog treats were a very pleasant surprise after an arduous journey there. The owners were always on hand should we need them and were very friendly. It is an ideal location for reaching the likes of Buxton, Bakewell and even Matlock wasn’t too far away. If, however, you are looking for a walking holiday, as we were, there are a plethora of walks in the vicinity. Thor’s Cave - well worth a visit - is around 20 minutes away and the views are spectacular. The Tissington Trail is a nice cycle ride/walk and the valley of Dovedale is very picturesque. We were spoilt for choice on what to do every day. We had read on previous reviews that the traffic noise at the accommodation was very loud and that did worry us as we live in a quiet cul-de-sac. However, please don’t let that put you off as we very quickly adapted to it and after a while we barely noticed it. All in all we had a great time here and if, next year, we find ourselves needing to book a staycation again we will most definitely look at rebooking the cottage.

"The cottage was well equipped and the welcome pack was gratefully received."
The basement entrance was perfect for wet paws and boots as it did rain every day... not all day:) We had some fantastic days out exploring the area and greatly enjoyed our stay.

"The cottage was spotlessly clean."
Beds were super comfortable. Lovely to have a pint of milk, a gorgeous cake and dog treats left for us. Nice living area. Small kitchen but pretty much everything was there. Despite having an area to barbeque, there were no tongs. The location lets it down, sitting between the busy A6 and the A6 filter road means it is very noisy, meaning when you sat outside on the patio the traffic noise was very loud and very fast on the front. Parking is an issue, having 2 allocated parking spaces we had only been there around 10 minutes to a knock on the door from another resident asking us to move 1 car as its so tight to fit 2 cars in!! There are stairs downstairs to the patio and very useful cellar but this meant there were no back doors to any patio so you unable to get a breeze through. Chapel en le Frith was a good base to travel out to places, but a small high street with very few shops/cafea to mooch round, it isnt the place if that's what you want to do. The cottage does accept dogs but not allowed to have a wee on the patio so had to take her out all the time to toilet (we would have washed it down) which was a faff. Also the back gate isnt to the floor so our small dog could have got out under the gate so we had to watch her constantly. Overall we had a really good holiday but would not return to Chapel en le Frith.

"We had a lovely time staying at Carter’s Cottage, the place was clean, spacious and came with everything we needed."
The property owners were also very welcoming and friendly and were happy to help with any issues we had. We would definitely recommended Carter’s cottage and we would certainly stay here again. Thank you!
-
"Cottage was very comfortable."
It lacked a garden area but there was easy access to local footpaths and a small grassed area for the dog.
-
"We had a fabulous 3 night break at Carters Cottage and will definately be returning as soon as we can!"
We found the cottage to be cosy, spacious and homely and the location was perfect as we were able to walk into Chapel and have a drink (outside a pub) and also dined outside at the local Greek restaurant; Kouros which was delicious! We were located within a short drive to very scenic walks and to other pretty surrounding villages. I contacted the cottage owner; Martyn a couple of days prior to our stay and found him very helpful and friendly and I didnt hesitate to contact him whilst we were staying in his cottage to ask him how to turn the tv on!!
-
"Very well equiped house, a short stroll from the centre of town and a very short drive from lots of fantastic walks."
-
"We will certainly be booking the same cottage next year."
-
"The owner was very easy to contact if needed."
The cottage is bigger than you might expect, and had everything we needed. It probably wasn't the homeliest place we have stayed in but this was, at least in part, because many little home comforts had had to be removed due to Covid.
-
"Owner of cottage very helpful."
Welcome cake and milk/tea/coffee much appreciated for arrival
-
"The cottage was comfortable and clean."
The personal touch of the welcoming card, cake and dog treats was a lovely surprise. A break away was just what was needed. Thank you.

-
"Home from home well maintained fully equipped cottage and very welcoming hosts."
Spacious and comfortable cottage. Good parking although near village and facilities.
-
"Carter's Cottage met our expectations from the description on the Sykes Website."
It was a very comfortable base for our break in the Peak District. Martyn the owner was very helpful, even phoned to tell us of a road closure that may have impacted on our journey. We had everything we needed for the few days we were there. Everything was very clean and of high quality. We would stay here again.
-
"Good communication from booking from the home owner."
Beautiful house, home comforts. Like being home to home. Nice touches with a welcome card and cake. Would definitely stay there again soon
-
"We felt instantly at home in the property, and it's spaciousness meant that we could all enjoy some privacy if necessary."
Two things need to be made clearer in the description. First the location of the parking, secondly the location of the property - we have actually discussed the difficulty in finding the property with the owner, for some reason Google thinks it is in neighbouring Chinley. You could also mention the stairs to the basement to warn anyone with toddlers. Chapel-en-le-Frith is a lovely little place, good pubs and good food, and an excellent base for exploring Derbyshire.
-
"Fantastic cottage in a great location, couldn't fault a single thing."
Decor and furnishings/equipment spot on. Felt at home the minute we opened the door. Plus a big thank you to Martyn and Sheena for allowing us to take 3 pooches.
-
"We loved Carter's Cottage - it was welcoming, clean and spacious."
We really enjoyed our stay (a family get together) and would definitely recommend it to others. Thank you to our generous hosts!
-
"A lovely warm and comfortable cottage, easily placed for some great walking."
The homemade cake was lovely too thank you!
-
"Very well appointed and equipped house in a lovely part of the country."
Convenient for shops, pubs and restaurants. Tastefully furnished - the owner is an excellent photographer.
-
"Great cottage/helpful and accommodating hosts- nice break (there is a fantastic Greek restaurant in the village!"
)
-
"A lovely stay in a clean, spacious and homely cottage."
The owners even left us cake on arrival!
-
"This is an excellent cottage in all aspects except one!"
First the excellent stuff - clean, tidy, car parking, alarm, space, cake supplied, friendly neighbours, access to Kinder/Castleton, 2 bathrooms/showers. The cottage is listed as sleeping 6 by use of the downstairs second room and a pull out double and this is accurate. However it is almost impossible to seat 4 round the Kitchen table (the only table) and how one would seat 6 is beyond me. We (two adults, two 12 year olds) found it very difficult to squeeze/climb in and out due to lack of space and the number and spacing of the table legs. I opted to stand for breakfast and the rest of the time we ate out. Cant see a solution really - there just isn't room in the kitchen to sit at a useful table. (Personally I hated the tap too - wibbly wobbly spray and difficult to use - but the kids thought it was cool!). But overall we had a very good stay and would certainly go there again.

"Great find ."
The cottage is an ideal location for visiting the Peak District Would book again

The facilities were amazing with many extra touches. The welcome cake (the best victoria sponge ever)and card made us feel very much at home. We would definately highly recommend Carters Cottage to anyone visiting the Peak District.
