  • "We had a very pleasant stay at the Old Bull."

We enjoyed the hot tub, snooker table and dart board. We appreciated the welcome pack and the new air fryer. The Bull is situated in the historic market place and there was a great variety of restaurants and cafes with friendly locals and good atmospheres. We are a family of twelve from 79 to 5 and there was something for everyone. The 5 year old loved playing hide and seek!

  • "We had a fantastic weekend stay here."

It was very well equipped and when there was an issue with the heating, the owner sent a plumber round straight away to check. It is a great location for walks, pubs and places to eat. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds very comfy! Would definitely recommend.

Thanks Julie. It was great to have you with. I'm so pleased you had a good time! Yes we try and fix any issues ASAP for our guests so it doesn't affect their stay and I'm pleased we managed to sort the issue with the heating quickly for you. We look forward to seeing you again. Property Owner

  • "I wish I could be more positive about the set up of this house and in the main we all had a lovely time."

However, We booked thinking this still had the pub bar intact, in the same set up as The Crewe and Harpur, took me a few hours to get over the disappointment. The main disappointment was the kitchen facilities which were way too small for a Group of 12 adults. The fridge was very small and we couldn’t fit the food in for 2 meals so had to use our cooler boxes and buy bags of ice everyday from the Coop in the High Street. No room to cool any drinks so again had to use cooler boxes. Kitchen needs a 2nd fridge and/or drinks fridge. Oven was a usual domestic size oven so cooking a Sunday roast for 12 adults was again challenging so had to cook in batches. Local chippy on the Friday finishes at 7.15pm so that plan went out the window too and ended up with a few pizza’s. There are a couple of walks from the town but not really peak walks so you need to drive to designated car parks on the peaks if you want to hike. The double bed on the top floor slopes up towards headboard so the guests had to sleep the opposite way around. The bed needs moving so your feet are not facing uphill. PLEASE buy some new darts for the dart board!! We just about managed to cobble 3 darts and flights together to have a darts comp. Let your guests know they need to take extra towels for the hot tub. The house towels were so small, they would have been ok for children. There is parking for 4 cars although Next door neighbour told us three but we managed to squeeze 4 in. There is free parking on the Square but outside is restricted apart from Sundays.

We apologise for the experience you have had with us. There is no mention of a bar being in place in this property nor is that shown on any marketing photos. We are honest in the description and layout of all our properties and we urge guests to please look at the photos of the listing and the description to avoid the disappointment of not having a fully stocked bar ready on arrival. That being said we thank you for your feedback and are looking to take some action. We are assessing where we can add a second oven for personal cooking for large groups. The same for the fridge. We regularly buy new darts on a monthly basis. They are damaged frequently. I apologise that on your arrival the new ones for that month had not arrived but those are now in place. We have plenty of towels at the property. If anyone ever wants any extra towels all you need to do is ask and we'll happily supply them. Property Owner

  • "If there is one problem it is the neighbour who moaned (twice) about us using the hot tub."

I don't recall anything in the description saying that the tub couldn't be used after eleven at night. If there was then my mistake and I apologise. If not, then we were not making a nuisance of ourselves and were mindful of keeping our voice levels down. After all is said and done, at the cost that I paid for two nights, I expect to be able to use the facilities and use common sense.

Hello Steve. Thanks for your feedback. I'll speak to Janet (who is usually very lovely). She assists us in guiding guests to the parking spaces and also helps if there are any issues at the property. It is a residential area so we do request that noise is kept to a reasonable level during the later hours to keep the disturbance to our neighbors at a minimum. We appreciate your cooperation with this. It allows the ongoing viability of the holiday home for others to use for many years. Property Owner

  • "I booked this property for a family reunion, age range 8 to 75."

The property was spacious and we didn't feel on top of one another. The children loved playing hide and seek and the pool table and darts were a great hit. We had a couple of issues on arrival and Philip was quick to respond. In comparison with other properties we have stayed at the kitchen appliances were on the small size when catering for 12. However there was plenty of glasses cutlery and plates. We were also unable to open many of the windows to let in fresh air. The hot tub was a winner, but it was difficult to dry towels as there was only only a couple of clothes airers in the kitchen. Apart from the hot tub, there is no real garden space, just a place to park cars.

Thanks for your feedback. We do appreciate it. We do apologise for the windows. We are working on a full replacement of all windows. This is a grade 2 listed property so they need to be hand made on a case by case basis. They add a lot of amazing character to the building but we are looking to make the building more efficient to operate. We are currently saving up to do this work from the revenue the property makes and we plan to reinvest all future profits into restoring the house even further Property Owner

  • "The house was a great size we made good use of the pool table and dart board."

However we didn’t use the hot tub the area as it was very shabby and very uninviting. The people before us had left behind lots of corks around the hot tub area, the hot tub had dirt on the bottom of it. The area is not screened off from the Neighbour whose property directly joins onto this property and who shares the same garden area. The Neighbour turned up at the back door as soon as we arrived telling us the rules in not a friendly manner, one of the rules being that we had to be out of the hot tub by 11pm. The house is by no means a cheap rent at just short of 2k for 3 nights, therefore would have expected it to be in a bit of a better condition. The parking is very tight we had 3 cars which meant there was hardly any grass area for the dogs to use. Many of the carpets were stained as was the chair at the dressing table in our bedroom. We had a great time for a 70th celebration would highly recommend Deacons Bank for a special meal. The house is in a great location lovely coffee shop 30 seconds from the house. The house and facilities could be stunning with a bit of tlc.

Hello Louise, thank you for your honest feedback. We really appreciate it. The previous guests to you unfortunately had a bit of a wild time. We worked really hard to get the property as close to perfect as we could but our cleaning teams were pushed to get the property ready which I think has contributed to the poorer quality you received. This also may explain why our neighbour (who also works for us) might have been a sterner with the rules than she usually is. I know the previous party had kept her up for a lot of the night! I apologise for the experience you had and can assure any future guests that our standards are consistently high for this property and this is a rare exception to an otherwise great record that we have. Great location with some lovely pubs and cafes on the doorstep. House was well equipped, and the pool table, darts board and hot tub were an added bonus given we a little unlucky with the weather! Welcome goodies on arrival was a lovely touch. Comfy beds, large bedrooms and plenty of storage. Lounge had comfortable sofas with enough room for everyone. Kitchen was well equipped and enough of everything for a large number of people - 2 kettles, multiple toasters etc made such a difference. Enjoyed a wonderful week and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

  • "We had a really lovely stay & found everything perfect for our family getaway."

A couple of suggestions which I realise may be difficult to achieve due to layout of the building. > the oven is pretty small to accommodate 12 people. We tried cooking a full English for everyone which took ages. Maybe an addition of a separate grill such as George Forman could help with this. > I realised after that it said we needed to bring our own tea towels but I had missed this so we had to buy some which was fine, but oven gloves would be helpful. > we also purchased plastic glasses to take a drink around the hot tub. Would be good to invest in some of these. > locals were really helpful. Found a quiz in the local pub, might be useful to provide info on things like this in a guest book. These are just suggestions though, we had a really brilliant time in a lovely place & would definitely recommend. Thank you!

Thanks for this. We now have bought tea towels and oven gloves for all future guests so others should not have this issue! Thanks for letting us know. Property Owner

  • "Great property especially for the 10 of us size wise."

Location good. The oven was not big enough for a large party such as us, and I would not want to try to do a roast dinner or Christmas dinner in it and it could have been cleaner as when it was put on the kitchen was smokey with burning grease from it. A couple of small niggles, wear and tear wise. Cupboard door in kitchen hanging off. Edging on the work top also coming off in one area. Door knob also in the kitchen dropping off. The main toaster has one side of it that didnt work, however there were 2 other additional ones, as well as 2 kettles which was good. We did get in the hot tub for 10 minutes, which was great as the weather was awful all weekend. A thoughtful conversion from an old pub. Lovely welcome pack thank you

Thanks for your feedback Jayne. Apologies the oven wasn't quite up to scratch on this occasion. I've passed this onto our cleaning team who will ensure future guests won't have the same issue. We have now fixed all of the minor repair issues you mentioned. Thank you for letting us know. Property Owner

Great for a big group - went for my partners birthday with all of our friends. Good amenities and great location with lots of pubs/cafes nearby. Had a bit of a strange encounter with a neighbour who ‘popped round’ once we’d arrived who mentioned that there is a cut off time of 11pm from the hottub (no mention of this on listing) and that she has noise sensors installed. Made us all feel a bit threatened and uncomfortable, but didn’t hear anything from her after that initial visit.

Hello Natalie! Thank you very much for giving us a perfect score despite the not-so-good encounter with the neighbour. We were surprised as well about this incident. Our deep apologies. The property was very clean, warm and really spacious for our group which was 7 adults and 3 kids plus our dogs. We really enjoyed using the hot tub and the pool table. There is a co-op very close by and the kids enjoyed the Harry Potter shop just round the corner. There are walks into the countryside from Chapel itself or you can do a short drive (about 15mins) to Castleton which has caves to look round, Edale or Mam Tor for more walking options. We also had a day trip to Chatsworth which was a very impressive stately home with beautiful gardens, farm animals, ice cream and shops. We booked rock climbing for the kids for one morning with peak mountaineering which I really enjoyed, and also ventured to Buxton (again, only 15mins drive) for the shops, museum, little train in the park and a theatre show at the opera house. I would recommend this location for a holiday as it has something for everyone and the Bull's head was certainly very comfortable for us all. I would like to say a big thank you to the owners for a wonderful stay I would definitely recommend this property.

! Plenty of space in the bedrooms and communal areas all of which were extremely comfortable and warm despite the snow that had fallen. The kitchen was very well equipped and we cooked several times including a roast (oven a little snug for this but planning made it possible). The snooker table was a big hit! We loved that we could walk out to eat, go to the pub or restaurant and pick up a coffee (Twigs was great). We also did a number of walks from the house or with a short drive first. We could have done with a washing machine because of the Australian contingent including a baby and need to wash through some muddy clothing from the walks but it wasn't promised so my bad for not noticing. Would also have been nice to have bigger bath towels but didn't take the shine off the holiday! Hot tub was amazing and magical in the snow! Phil, the owner, was very responsive and helpful!

  • "Had a wonderful time at the cottage."

Good points: it’s clean and very welcoming. Lovely and homely and the facilities are good. It is in a good location and is easily accessible. Bad points: *the next door neighbour is extremely rude and came across aggressive. The TV aerial does not work so can only use the apps. Could do with having a manual for the hot tub and extra cleaning products needed for it, also the chlorine floating thing was broken so the top kept coming off and tablets falling out. Suggestions: could possibly do with a bigger cooker for the amount of people in the cottage and also more comfy seating in the lounge area Dart board should be made from cork and not wood as the darts bounce off and hit tiled floor bending the darts. * As we arrived at the cottage and parked around the back and closed gate as instructed, the next door neighbour came out and told us to “move that car as it’s right in-front of my kitchen window” aggressively. we had only just opened the door to the cottage not knowing this building was separate and assumed it was all part of the cottage. My Dad said “calm down mate sorry we’ve only just arrived and didn’t realise, we’ll move it now” neighbour replied “don’t tell me to calm down, move it now” again aggressively. Luckily this was the only interaction we had with him, but there was just no need for the extreme rudeness and aggressive behaviour.

We're sorry about our neighbour. I can assure you that she is normally a very lovely person and happy to chat to our guests. I did reach out to her after this incident and she was very apologetic and somewhat embarrassed about her outburst. I believe she had just had a bad day. I'm pleased you enjoyed the rest of your holiday and were not too affected but this! We'd love to see you again. Property Owner
