Very dog friendly. Great location for exploring. Secure garden. I would have loved an outside tap to clean off the dogs after our long walks.

  • "Overall very lovely stay."

Bed was comfy and the dining room was a cosy room to eat in. The pub that was along the road was closed for winter which was a bit of a shame as it meant we then had to cook or drive out somewhere for dinner. No salt/pepper available so we had unseasoned dinner as we had expected there would be that in the house. Living room fire place really hard to turn on even with the instructions. Took us around 45 mins on the first night, then about 15 on the other nights. Shower was great and powerful but it doesn’t drain well so worried about overflow during the shower. Front door quite difficult to lock from both inside and outside. Once got the nack it was easier but same person had to do it throughout the stay. Overall had a really lovely time

  • "Nice cottage but."

... Stayed for 5 days in August and although the cottage is welcoming there is a problem for anyone sleeping in the front bedroom! At about 5am each morning HGVs & general traffic start coming past - the noise & headlights will wake anybody who is not a heavy sleeper (perhaps the clue is in the name "Main Road!") Also we discovered we had been bitten by fleas - maybe a deep clean would help. On the plus side we have left some Magnums in the secret freezer under the stairs!

We can assure you that our property is managed professionally and is deep cleaned after every guest, as comfort and hygiene is our top priority. We are sorry to read that during your stay in an unusually hot August you were bitten. Our holiday cottage has original quarry tiles and wooden floors throughout and textiles are kept to an absolute minimum - leaving only bedding which we can categorically assure you is changed after every guest. That said we are not responsible for if you have been bitten whilst outside or enjoying our countryside. Our property has triple glazed windows for unwanted noise outside. Thank you for informing us about leaving food products in our freezer, however, as stated above we take the hygiene of our cottage very seriously and we will dispose of this as soon as possible. Thank you for your comments. Property Owner

  • "What can I say - fantastic cosy cottage with a lovely garden."

Clearly geared up for you to take your four legged friends as water bowls, no carpet and garden enclosed. Not once did I think "I wish there was.............." (other than possibly an outdoor washing line to hang the dogs towels following their swim in the stream!) David at number 18 left a lovely message knowing I would be arriving in the heat directing me to a wooded and shaded walk with streams which was perfect after a long and hot drive. Position is central to everything and I would urge you to explore the area by foot as some beautiful areas to walk in without having to take your car. Fantastic stay and will definitely be back - thank you so much.

  • "Nice stay in a brilliant location for exploring the peaks."

The cottage was quite dated but perfect as a base. Bedrooms are lovely and bright. Garden isn’t enclosed so we had to keep one of our dogs on the lead (a reactive spaniel) but this wasn’t a massive problem. The gentleman next door was extremely friendly and lovely! Gave us recommendations for local area.

  • "We had a lovely week in the adorable cottage which retains its character whilst having been modernised."

Very comfortable and warm with an enclosed garden for our dogs. No problem parking in the spaces allocated just around the corner. The kitchen is well equipped and the house has a very good WiFi connection. At first we thought there was no freezer but, it’s in the cupboard under the stairs. No bath but the shower is great. Great location for stunning country walks.

  • "Hallbrook cottage is a cozy holiday let with plenty of country walks around the surrounding area."

It's well equipt for dogs and the next door neighbour is very pleasant and helpful. The pub across the road is very friendly and the food is nice to. However, a good nights sleep is not an option if sleeping in the front bedroom, due to the endless noise of lorries passing the property throughout the night. Also the nearest shop is a good 20 minute walk for local groceries.

  • "Beautiful, cosy cottage with a wonderful cottage garden which was a delight to sit in!"

Comfortable beds with ‘hotel’ white linen and soft fluffy towels. All the comforts of home with extra little touches; tea/coffee/sugar provided as a welcome drink which was very much appreciated. There was even bowls for the dog! Would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a break, short or long, who enjoys walking, visiting places of historical interest or just wants a chilled out place to relax. Lovely, friendly gentleman next door, who was very helpful and knowledgable about the area. Would definitely stay there again.

  • "We had a lovely time at the cottage and thoroughly enjoyed sitting in the gorgeous little garden."

We had sunshine mostly so we were lucky. The patio set was a real boost and we spent hours chatting around the table in the shade. There was space enough for 2 couples and 2 small dogs and the kitchen was well equipped. We drew straws on the bedrooms the one at the back being far superior to front. This was very noisy which we weren't expecting being as we thought it was sleepy hollow. This was definitely not the case first thing in the mornings, lots of through traffic! Lorries, buses etc. We were really happy with the location of the cottage, some lovely walks driectly from the door too. The pubs however were a bit disappointing as apparently don't serve food until Wednesdays as there's no call for it. This was in the evening at the 3 Stags. There was food at the Compass but only served until 7PM. Then again we are coming out of lockdown rules so we went prepared. The cottage was rather noisy in the night if anyone used the bathroom. It's not for the light sleepers as it's all wooden floors. However this was perfect as dogs are allowed so not complaining, it was very charming. We will be back next year as was originally booked to go to the YNot Festival which was cancelled. Instead we had a lovely chillout which was perfect. Thanks to the owners for letting this property. The images really don't do it justice.

The cottage is beautiful and has a home from home feel to it with everything you need. The owners Dad next door is such a lovely guy and could t do more. the other side were lovely too.We have family here so was great to catch up with them and as we had hot weather was great to have the BBQ! We have stayed in many cottages in the peak district and this is definitely the nicest.Lots of lovely walks and right next to the river which the dogs loved. We would love to return but unfortunately for the same time next year the price has almost tripled which is a real shame. We had a great time and will be back if we can afford! Many Thanks Debbie and family.

  • "Spent a lovely family weekend in this idyllic little cottage with our dogs."

I cannot begin to describe how lovely it is set in a small village a couple of hundred yards from the river and two local pubs. The garden is a genuine haven in which to enjoy drinks and meals and bask in the sun. The weekend was enhanced by 30 degree temperatures, so we didn’t make a great deal of use of the lounge but that’s so charming too. The owner lives next door and he’s a very friendly chap. Highly recommended indeed.

It was perfect for us we were 3 adults and 5 well trained dogs , they loved the garden area and the neighbour/owner man next door loves dogs. He has a grassy verge he let us use as our dogs are well behaved and always supervised. The lady on the other side is wary of dogs so we were careful not to allow them too close to that edge of her fence. BUt it was a fabulous place , cannot recommend highly enough. DAvid the part owner is so helpful about area. The place is in a great location as well. There's no bath but we were ok Ina shower. THeres so much thought gone into making it a home from home! We will be visiting again soon!

Cottage was clean and had good facilities. We had dogs with us and they had a good time also. Two pubs close by and a beautiful park walking distance for your dogs or children. We had really hot weather and there was no freezer for ice however the owner who lives next door assisted us and kept us use his in the garden. Only negative was that the fence between us and the neighbouring house was not secure and the neighbour did not appreciate 4 legged visitors so maybe secure the fence

  • "We had a lovely break."

Unfortunately we didn't get ideal weather and it was still during the indoor hospitality outdoor regulations so pub visits relied upon undercover or fine weather. Having said that the 2 very local pubs serve a decent pint and the staff are friendly. If you're looking for fine dining then they are not the establishments to visit but we thoroughly enjoyed our scampi and chips in a basket! The cottage was beautiful and comfortable. If I had to make a criticism then the only thing was the musty smell specifically on the throws over the furniture. I completely appreciate however, that Covid has meant that this beautiful building has been left unoccupied for months on end over a cold period so its perfectly understandable. Once aired or dry cleaned I'm sure this could be easily rectified. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in the cottage.

Many thanks for your feedback, it is always welcome. Our cottage is indeed the most beautiful and comfortable retreat to stay , for which we are proud. Our furniture coverings are regularly cleaned professionally, and although we're puzzled by a musty smell ( as everything in the cottage is new this season) we will happily ensure that all soft furnishings will be promptly professionally laundered and we thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are so very pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Hallbrook cottage, and we hope to see you soon. Property Owner

  • "A delightful cottage in a lovely location."

There were a lot of homely touches and the space was good. Easy to keep warm and nice and cosy. Unfortunately, the cleaning prior to this particular visit wasn't up to scratch and there was no soap or any adequate saucepans for cooking. Sykes Cottages and the owner's representative (who lives next door), however, were both extremely good and solved the problem very quickly.

Thank you kindly for your prompt feedback, we do consider all of our guests points with great interest. We do aim to provide the most comfortable and relaxing stay in the Derbyshire Dales. We are very proud of our holiday sanctuary, and all of our professional team that are employed to keep the cottage clean and presentable. We are, therefore, sorry to hear of your displeasure, yet pleased that our cleaning company had rectified the small area behind the TV cabinet within the hour, and we were also pleased that you felt heard and happy. We believe that we do provide Adequate saucepans in our new fully equipped kitchen. On reflection of this we were wondering if it would have been helpful for both yourselves and us if we had been informed about your individual concerns due to severe dietary needs prior to your stay as It certainly would have been our pleasure to have provided extra saucepans and placed them in the cupboard ready for your arrival to ensure a seamless, safe and healthy stay. I feel, again pleased that you found that we rectified this for you within the hour. Again, thank you for your feedback and we hope to welcome you back again very soon. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was lovely and had all the comforts of home, with tea, coffee and milk waiting ready for a relaxing cuppa after a long drive."

We stayed to visit my brother in Stanton Lees but the cottage is perfectly situated for walks on the moors. Walks into Matlock and just a short drive from Bakewell, Buxton and the amazing Chatsworth House to name a few. With 2 local pubs within easy walking distance for a quiet bite (once we're allowed). All in all a lovely position to relax and explore the peak district. It was a shame that sadly the general public didn't observe the resident bay parking signs limiting parking spaces at times but this didn't spoil our stay, just sad for the residents. Would I stay there again? If available, most definitely!! Thank you once again for the use of your lovely cottage even if it was for just a short weekend.
