"A wonderful 2 week stay in this very comfortable and well-equipped property."
The view from the patio is fantastic - great to sit out and have a cup of tea after a day's sightseeing. Ruby says "thank you" for her dog blanket and treats; we say "thank you" for the milk, tea/coffee and Bakewell Pudding! The property is ideally situated for all the places we wanted to visit with no long car journeys. Just a pity the weather decided to deteriorate part way through our second week! A big thank you to David and William.

"Another wonderful stay in the bungalow."
I donât know whether to mention this but it is a wonderful writerâs retreat. The view must be one of the best in Derbyshire - rolling hills and alpacas grazing (and for the foreseeable future, no through road). There needs to be a desk/ dressing table in the bay window main bedroom to write from and look out, but I worry if this happens, other writers will book the place up! Much time was spent writing on the decking area table at the front. It faces West so the sunsets can be amazing. We walked down to the nice Tickled Trout (half a mile) and stayed put most the time. I reversed the car up the steep drive and once it was wedged in was pleased not to have to do that again! Apparently most people park at the bottom of the drive, but I preferred a car-free view. One slight annoyance was I think the previous vacationers may have had a joint but we opened the windows and then it was fine and no reflection on the bungalow. We worked out the reclining sofas had phone chargers in which was handy on a rainy evening watching Netflix movies. The garden behind was lovely to lie in - our picnic rug got well used. The only noise were owls, clip-clopping of horses and occasionally tractors in the fields. Bliss. Hope to come here for a third time if it doesnât get too booked up. It is a very special place.

"A very comfortable holiday home in a beautiful , peaceful setting."
There are 2 nice restaurants nearby one being in walking distance . Nice walks are on the doorstep. Sheffield and Chesterfield are within fairly short driving distance .The owners are available if any questions arise. We had a lovely 2 week stay . It was our 4th holiday at The Bungalow at Barlow.

"Our third time at the bungalow."
We love staying here. You cannot beat the peace and quiet and the views are out of this world. The bungalow is clean and bright, modern and spacious. Owners are really pleasant. Milk and cakes were very much appreciated on our arrival. The only thing is that our car does not like being parked on the steep driveway and the oil light always comes on, however, you can park at the bottom of the drive on the roadway. No traffic comes past as you are the last property on a no through lane, so its not a problem. Plenty of walks around and good dog friendly pubs, especially the peacock ( chef and brewer)on owler bar roundabout ( not in Barlow) also the shoulder of mutton in Chapel en le Frith. People are very welcoming in the area. After staying for the third time, it feels like home and we wish it was! The owners are so lucky to have such a lovely bungalow, you really could not design a better place to stay.

"Had a lovely stay at the bungalow."
.excellent position. It doesn't look much from the outside but inside it has been renovated to a good standard and has a really nice feel with all you need, with a brilliant outlook over the fields. It was clean and welcoming with all the facilities you need.Only small gripes for us were the thermostats on radiators a bit hit and miss and the matress wasn't supportive enough for us but this is a personal preference. The gardens could do with some maintenance but still nice to relax in,especially as it's a little suntrap at the back of the property. We have stayed at a few cottages, and they are expensive, but if you like a home from home with a good location then you get your monies worth. All in all we would recommend and with a few tweeks here and there would be even better.
-
"We loved our stay here."
Quiet, and beautiful views. It was perfect for what we wanted. We were four adults and two young children. The kids loved the garden and the view of the alpacas. Location was great for walking, running and mountain biking. We could wander into the village for the pub, or sit on the terrace in the evening. Clean and tidy - as per listing - would recommend!
-
"The bungalow is perfectly positioned in open countryside yet within quite easy walking distance of excellent pubs and cafes all serving very good food in a most cheery environment."
Many walks on your doorstep with more amazing adventures a short drive away in the beautiful Peak District National Park to be enjoyed by both two legged and four legged walkers. We highly recommend this lovely place with itâs great views whatever the weather as the central heating and if needed log fire keep you warm and toasty.
-
"The Bungalow is a lovely place to stay."
The host provided some lovely homely touches for our stay and our ganddaughter thoroughly enjoyed watching the alpacas. Top ten tip, probably don't follow the advice of your sat nav when you reach Barlow, follow the directions provided.
-
"The beds for us were too soft and neither of us slept well during our stay."
For a dog friendly property there were not enough soft areas for them to settle. Laying on the wooden floors is not always comfortable and it would be nice to have a large rug in the lounge area. Other than that the bungalow was a great find and we enjoyed the facilities and the local area.
-
"This is a well-maintained and beautifully situated holiday cottage."
We loved our time there and are in the process of re-booking.
-
"Our second stay in this lovely bungalow."
Gardens and adjacent field great for our dog. Short drives to the famous Peak District walks.
-
"Loved the bungalow, clean, quiet and warm, perfect for a relaxing autumn break."
The setting was fabulous; the view across the valley, watching the alpacas, the garden with a view, right next to the footpath (not enough people using it to be intrusive) lending a good way to get to the village without using the car. The only downside for us was the steepness of the driveway and having to chock the car (chocks provided by the owner) each time we got back, but that might just be an issue for us, we don't have that problem in Norfolk! :)
-
"Lovely property, wekk maintained and furnished."
We particularly liked the view over the Alpaca farm which our grandaughter watched for ages. Thank you.
-
"We really enjoyed staying at the bungalow."
The views are the X factor. But the other benefits are the walks around the area and the wildlife around the property. Not least the barn owls. Many thanks to Dave for the car charger available. Hopefully many more listings will provide this facility, especially in remote places. We very much recommend a stay at the bungalow for the Peak District area.
-
"Great bungalow in a beautiful location."
There is a feeling of being close to nature. Garden is particularly enjoyable for children to explore. The hosts are available as needed if any issue should arise.
-
"Lovely bungalow."
Our second time there. Great for walks in the Peak district. Love Longshaw Estate in particular. Had a lovely meal at The Peacock Pub on Owler Bar roundabout (not the one in barlow). You can take your dog to this pub but be aware they donât accept cash which is a shame. The views from any window are beautiful, could sit and look at them all day. Fabulous property. Thank you.
-
"The Bungalow was fabulous and the view from the front was stunning."
Sitting on the patio on an evening watching the sunset was very pleasant indeed. It was spacious, comfortable, well equipped and very central for visiting places like Bakewell, Matlock and Chatsworth. Would definitely like to revisit in the future.
-
"We had a great time at the bungalow."
It is in a really beautiful quiet valley with fantastic views and lovely walks. The bungalow itself is very comfortable and well equipped; a real home from home. The owners could not have been more helpful and friendly - nothing was too much trouble. We were snowed in for part of the stay and Will even managed to get through in his 4x4 to bring us some shopping!
-
"A beautiful modern bungalow that was very well decorated and felt clean and comfortable."
With views to die for, we would go there again tomorrow !
-
"A wonderful well equipped comfortable spacious bungalow with lovely views ."
I would highly recommend.
-
"A superbly equipped bungalow with great views from every window."
The alpacas were entertaining and our dog loved the local walks and quiet country lanes. A warm welcome from the owner and delightful little touches. I would highly recommend this bungalow to anyone seeking a quiet holiday within reach of the famous Peak District walks. The description of the back garden could be more accurate - it is private and large but dogs need to be supervised as it is not fully enclosed as the original information suggested. A wonderful holiday we will always remember.
-
"Lovely bungalow clean and warm."
Beautiful views and the good weather was a bonus. Really appreciated the cakes and milk and treats for the dog also the apples. The owner was very helpful. May return one day
-
"Outstanding views from the Bungalow, very warm and comfortable property with lots of walks around for walking the dog."
The driveway is very steep and as we have a very long car it wasn't possible to turn at the top so we decided it was best to park at the bottom. It wasn't a problem to us that the garden wasn't completely fenced for security of a dog because if you have a well behaved dog as you are meant to it isn't an issue. All in all a very enjoyable place to stay.
-
"A quiet, warm, comfortable and well-appointed cottage in an excellent location."
The view is wonderful especially with mist in the valley and watching the alpacas is very entertaining. Yes, the garden is not secure but in my opinion it is still very dog friendly. There are walks from the door and 2 excellent restaurants within walking distance as well as a wonderful cafe. What is not to like, a really great week.

"Canât think of anything to complain about."
Very modern and clean in a beautiful area.
-
"Booked property on basis garden dog friendly and enclosed for my large dog."
Property situated on a lane used by horse riders, cyclists dog walkers etc. Not enclosed as stated and not safe for my dog. Spoke to owner days before we left and was informed the back.of the property was fully enclosed. Not the case at all . I have taken video and will send it with my complaint. Ruined our holiday left day early. Please note another customer has previously written similar comment so why is this property still being advertised this way? Very misleading in my opinion.
-
"Located in such a peaceful area, lovely well equipped bungalow, with beautiful grounds."
The gardens and the fields were great for the dog. Watching the wildlife and alpacas, is so relaxing. It's a lovely place to stay and recharge your batteries! It was nice meeting the owners who live next door. This is our 2nd visit, it is certainly on my list to visit again next year. Thank you.
-
"Absolutely gorgeous bungalow."
Fantastic views. Lovely friendly people in the village. Very helpful owner of the property. So quiet with a lovely large garden for our dog to roam in. Very clean with everything we needed. Have never stayed in such a beautiful place before. Could have stayed there for ever. Canât recommend this property highly enough. Will definitely be booking again. Thank you.
-
"The Bungalow @ Barlow was booked on the back of it stating that the garden was enclosed / dog secure."
Unfortunately this was not the case and as such created problems for us with our young dog. This aside we would happily return if this issue was addressed.
-
"Lovely comfortable house with wonderful views."
Rural peaceful setting. Nice gardens. Convenient for Peak District visits. There are a few nice restaurants in the Barlow area. We have already re booked!
-
"Comfortable, clean bungalow."
The views are what makes this property a perfect and peaceful getaway. Only criticism would be instructions on how to use hob and microwave. Lovely location and ideal place for visiting many attractions not too far away. Would not hesitate to come back in the future.
-
"The bungalow was very clean and well equipped with beautiful views."
We had a great holiday but it would have been useful to know that the drive is very steep. You really need to park at the bottom. The shower had a step which also made it difficult for a less mobile person. There were 2 key safes. Instructions as to which one to use were inside. There were no instructions for any appliances, including bathroom heating and towel rail, apart from the log burner.
-
"Great bungalow with stunning views, huge dog friendly garden and garage for average sized car."
Location peaceful and quiet abs perfect for all the Peak District has to offer. Nearest shop Co op 10/15 min drive. Dog walking from the front door. Struggled with the electric central heating but wood burner kept us warm in the evening. Overall a great visit with friendly locals and a couple of nice eateries close by. Thankyou
-
"A lovely property in a lovely location."
-
"The Bungalow is a lovely place to stay, so peaceful in this busy world."
The property is very comfortable, well equipped and spotlessly clean. What more could you want!
-
"All very clean and well equipped."
Beautiful views and alpacas. Lots to see and do in the local area.
-
"What a lovely house!"
Absolutely stunning views (even further helped by the alpaca directly across the road!), very comfortable house with everything we needed. Newly renovated by the looks of things and very clean. The goodies when we arrived were a lovely treat! We'd definitely like to visit again.
-
"The Bungalow@Barlow is in a very pleasant location with fantastic views and some good walks."
Quite clearly the owner is a dog lover providing a bed and doggy treats so our little pooch felt welcome as well. The property is well equipped although could have done with a few more kitchen utensils e.g a wooden spatula!! The wood burning stove was brilliant and really effective.Really nice on a chilly winter's evening. The only negative was the double mattress is quite soft and didn't suit my geriatric back!! Would happily stay again though.
-
"This is a lovely bungalow with fantastic views to the front."
Property is very clean with everything you need to a comfortable stay. Great walks from the front door with village / pubs 5 minutes away. Dogs made very welcome with treats and a bed provided. Would definitely book/stay again.
-
"Our stay in the Bungalow during Christmas was outstanding."
The actual house is much better than the picture portray (kitchen has more work surfaces. Facilities were great and the book for details of the water system really helped. The dog loved his stay and barking at the alpacas across the road. However, on the public footpath next to the bungalow there is an electric fence close to the footpath with no signage so other dog owners need to be aware.
-
"Our second visit here and we had another wonderful stay."
He Bungalow is in a fantastic location with some great walks nearby. Lots of great pubs and food on hand too. The house itself is warm and cosy with excellent facilities and a fully equipped kitchen. The heating is excellent and on a manual thermostat so you can get it just right and the TV has a good selection of channels plus Netflix. The Wi-Fi is very good. Outside there is a beautiful garden and a patio which looks out over the hills and an Alpaca farm. It is hard to suggest improvements but a dimmer light in the lounge would be good as the existing lights are too bright when watching TV. Will definitely be back!
-
"Beautiful bungalow in a stunning location."
Close to a couple of excellent pubs and 10 mins from shops etc. Appreciated the extras that made our dog's stay fantastic too, such as the blanket and bed. Next to the door is a footpath over the hill that takes you to the Peacock, the other pub is a five minute walk down the road.
-
"The bungalow is finished to a very high standard, the views are amazing and the outside space both front and back is very peaceful and relaxing."
A perfect base to explore out into the Peak District with nice walks also in the surrounding area. Would highly recommend!
-
"We had a wonderful experience at the bungalow."
The property was immaculate with stunning views and a great base to explore the Peak District, would highly recommend.
-
"Superbly presented bungalow with stunning views in a location that gives easy access to all of the Peak District."
The owner coudn't have been more helpful and the presentation of the bungalow was second to none. High quality furnishings and very comfortable bed. The decking is a wonderful place to enjoy and drink and watch the sunset over the hills. The garden is immense so our dog had a whale of a time chasing his bal across the lawns. I cannot recommend this property highly enough.

About the location
CHESTERFIELD
Matlock 10 miles; Chatsworth 10 miles; Bakewell 13 miles.
The historic market town of Chesterfield acts as the gateway to the Peak District, and has much to offer visitors. The town is famous for its 14th Century church with "Crooked Spire", twisting curiously from its true centre, while the frequent bustling market days are ideal for exploring the many different specialist shops and stalls which line the old Market Hall and charming Shambles beyond. The town also boasts Queens Park, with its lake, walks and summer bandstand, as well as a museum and theatre. Nearby, the Elizabethan Hardwick Hall is still impressive today, with its 6 grand towers elaborately monogramed with Bess of Hardwickâs initials, overlooking the superb gardens and walled courtyards of the grounds. Also popular is the semi-ruined 17th Century mansion of Bolsover Castle, set high on a wooded hilltop, looking west towards the heights of the Peak District. Chesterfield has a host of other attractions within easy reach, such as Chatsworth and Haddon Hall, the amenities of Matlock and Bakewell, or the opera at Buxton. An interesting base for a varied break.
