"Well equipped cottage - nice and clean - great location, once we had parked up never used the car again until we left."
Just bare in mind the stairs are very steep if you have mobility issues. We had a great weekend :)
-
"A well placed cottage for walking from the doorstep and visiting the Peak District, having all the amenities that we required, although food preparation needed to be at a minimum."
-
"Property was not clean enough with cobwebs and surface dirt on surfaces."
Kitchen area cleaned before using. Damp smell in living area, had to air out on arrival, this meant leaving windows and half door open and whilst we unpacked our dog barked. The neighbour saw fit to come tell us off after only being onsite for 5 minutes so not a great welcome. The cottage location was great and the outside area works well. The stairs are treacherous and cottage like and the bathroom is modern with a nice shower. No obvious recycle facility onsite so bottles left for cleaner to recycle . Used the VRBO app to try and contact owner but got no reply, ended up phoning Sykes. Had a pricing discrepancy also where Sykes charged me more than the agreed price on VRBO and I cannot get this resolved so other renters should look out for this anomaly.

"The cottage is ideally located in a quiet area of Castleton."
The bed was comfortable and shower was powerful with plentiful hot water. The kitchen area was very well equipped. Our only disappointment was that the living room was very dark mainly because of the high hedge opposite. If this could be reduced in size it would make a huge difference.

"We had a wonderful stay at High view cottage."
Set in the beautiful village of Castleton, it’s ideally located just 2 mins from the Main Street. The car parking space is an added bonus. The cottage itself is well established with everything you need for your stay. Would highly recommend ☺️
-
"We had a lovely stay and were very comfortable."
The situation of the cottage is very peaceful with very few cars passing by. We seemed to have all the equipment we needed and were nice and warm considering how chilly April has been.
-
"Comfortable and well -appointed cottage close to the centre of Castleton."
I was a bit worried about being unable to park at the property but only a short walk to and from the car park and I can see that space in Castleton is at a premium! Very little working surface in teh kitchen and I would not have wanted to prepare a meal - luckily we always eat out on holiday. An enjoyable week (apart from the weather!!)
-
"Great cozy home."
Has everything you need. Bed was so nice and didn’t want to get out. Shower is very powerful which was great. Lovely little hideaway which am sure we will be back.
-
"Nice little place in probably the best position in Castleton."
Easy access to everywhere but not busy, just people passing on foot to and from Peak Cavern. Parking is 200 yds away so manageable. The house is warm and cosy with everything you need for two people. Unfortunately the neighbour across the road has a 20ft laurel type hedge so it's not as light as it might otherwise be.

"Lovely cosy cottage in a perfect location, very happy with all facilities and spotlessly clean throughout"
-
"Lovely little cottage."
Clean and well kitted out for 2 people. The car park is literally a minute walk away and the cottage is only a few minutes walk into the main part of the village. Internet worked fine. Good location for walks. We had to take 2 cars due to location of work and the second car was parked in the main visitor car park for 3 nights and it only cost about £8 as I used the app. Would stay at the cottage again if we visited again.
-
"Fantastic cottage on a prime location."
Every little detail was provided and the owners made sure we knew exactly how to get there and where to park. The ability to stoke up the log burner was lovely on a cold evening although there was central heating so mice and warm. Bed and bedding was so comfy slept like a log. Would highly recommend fir anyone wanting a stay in Castleton, which was also amazing with great walks from the door and lovely pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops.

"Great little cottage, cosy, spotlessly clean and tidy."

Castleton is a lovely village with plenty of local walks. Highly recommended

"This is our second visit to High View Cottage and we were not disappointed."
The owners are very accommodating and welcoming. The cottage was beautiful, clean and very well presented. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

"What a find!"
. Lovely place to stay for our yearly trip to the Peaks.
-
"I and my wife Frances and dogs Billy and Freddie had a wonderful Bank holiday weekend at High View cottage."
The cottage was lovely ,very quaint and had all the facilities we needed for a very pleasant vacation. The cottage was very clean and tidy and the kitchen well equipped. The Bed was very comfortable . There was fuel available for the Wood burner although we did not use it. The central heating system was easier to use. Castleton is a lovely town ,surrounded by incredible countryside. There are lots of nice pubs and restaurants which are Dog friendly within a short walking distance of the cottage. We were fortunate to meet Kevin on the last day and he is a lovely man who made us feel very welcome. We would certainly like to come back and stay again one day..

"We had yet again another lovely stay."
. cottage is very cosy and has everything you in need

"Property was cleaned to a high standard."
The bed was comfortable but the pillows were far too soft and flat and could do with some new ones. It was very cold weather whilst we were there and the cottage felt slightly damp. Because there is no wardrobe in the bedroom our clothes felt slightly damp to because we couldn’t fit all our clothes in the drawers provided. We did use the heating but this didn’t seem to make much difference. We used the fuel burner stove too. It would have been nice if there had been a starter pack of logs and things with it being winter. We left coal and logs for the next person/couple to use. The cottage is in a nice location and was quiet but I don’t think we’d book it again.
-
"Perfectly located cottage …."
. very peaceful, pet friendly and with a multi fuel fire….. access to great walks all amenities and six pubs.
-
"The cottage was exactly how it was described, very clean and tidy."
Location was excellent for all the amenities, parking was only a short walk from the property. We had an excellent time, will look forward to booking in the near future
-
"Fantastic property in a great location."
Very warm and cozy. Well stocked with kitchen utensils and has everything one would need. Comfortable seating and bed. Excellent shower. Stairs are steep but this is stated. Cannot fault the property and was ideal for 2 adults and our 2 little dogs. The only thing to possibly improve it would be a good curtain by the front door to make even more toastie! Great stay. Thanks.

"High View Cottage is a very cosy and comfortable place to stay."
This was our third visit and we have been very happy each time. The accommodation is perfect for a mid-winter visit, being warm and compact, and with the addition of the wood burner makes a delightful retreat. In fact we would recommend coming at this time of year, as Castleton puts on a very festive display of Christmas trees and lights. Quite agical.
-
"Gorgeous location."
Cottage lovely. Very clean and tidy. Lovely and cosy. Our holiday was wonderfully peaceful.

"Small prop but ok for two, the owner is extremely helpful, stairs are steep ..."
Small prop but ok for two, the owner is extremely helpful, stairs are steep really steep so be careful if you have any mobility problems Close to all the amenities, great comfy bed Would book again might book again
-
"Ideal cottage in an ideal location."
Would have no problem in booking again or recommending.
-
"Lovely cosy cottage, situated perfectly."
The only thing I would say it's would be good if there was freezer box in the fridge.
-
"Lovely cottage ideal for a couple with dogs."
Only down side is lack of freezer box in fridge. Plenty of walks from the door no need to use your car.
-
"This was a great little property, the owner had left lots of helpful information on the general workings of the cottage, how the appliances worked, who to contact if any problems etc."
And this was useful when the toilet seat came loose and the maintenance chap was easily contacted and solved the problem whilst we were out, so no interruption to our holiday. The only little down note as mentioned by others was the lack of a freezer compartment in the fridge but a minor detail with so many places to eat close by.
-
"Lovely cosy cottage in a great location for walks, caverns, and pubs."
The cottage was cleaned to a good standard and well equipped. Parking is a 2 minute walk from the property, permit is provided. Stairs are on the steep side which could be a problem for those with mobility issues or carrying a heavy bag/case upstairs. Only comment would be there is no freezer or freezer compartment, and due to this we lost some food that we had taken up. I would recommend this cottage.
-
"We loved everything about the cottage and would stay again."
An added bonus would have been a small freezer compartment for cool box ice blocks and frozen food.
-
"Poor choice of glasses and kitchen facilities."
No small vegetable knife or seive. Skirting boards very dusty. Lots of cobwebs. Very comfortable
-
"Great property in a fantastic location, couldn't fault it and would recommend anyone books if wanting a stay in Castleton."
Just make sure you pack the walking boots!
-
"A very well presented cottage in an ideal location and with a lovely log fire and lots of nearby pubs."
After walking in the hills, this made for a superb break. The best compliment we can pay……is to say…..We will certainly be booking it again……..
-
"This is a pretty and nicely furnished cottage in a great location in a lovely village in a spectacular setting."
Parking (which can be an issue in Castleton) is conveniently nearby and within easy walking distance, as are all the local facilities, meaning many pubs, cafes, souvenir shops and even a couple of shops selling useful things, as well as several great walks and the famous show caves. Great for a couple and their dog for a week away.
-
"We stayed at High View for new year."
The cottage was clean and as described. Although no parking outside we were able to drop off and the car park is a 2 minute walk. The location is very pretty and perfect for walks around Castleton and surrounding area. It is a short walk into the village where there are shops, pubs, restaurants, post office and chip shop. The cottage is cute and tiny but well equipped. However the stairs are very steep and would present a problem for anyone with mobility issues. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend the cottage.
-
"A very lovely, cosy and tidy place - perfect for a couple and a small dog to spend time there."
We really enjoyed staying at the cottage over Christmas. The cottage is near Peak Cavern in the lovely town of Castleton, away from the crowds and only a few minutes walk from the main streets, yet near some wonderful walks. Upon arrival, we found the cottage to be very clean, warm and as described in the listing. It was very quiet throughout the week and we slept well. I would thoroughly recommend this cottage!
-
"It is a fantastic property in terms of facilities and location."
We had a wonderful weekend. Thank you.
-
"Lovely quaint cottage in an ideal location."
Would definitely recommend.
-
"Great little cottage, great views, fantastic location."
Had some trouble with the WiFi however the owners were easily contactable and together we sorted it that day with no trouble after that.
-
"More pillows required for the bed fuel for log burner would be helpful on ..."
More pillows required for the bed fuel for log burner would be helpful on the upside: the problem with the boiler was rectified very quickly
Thank you for your feedback. 4 pillows are typically provided for 2 guests. A supply of firelighters and fuel for the log burner is provided only for the first fire and we do advise all our guests where extra supplies can be sourced. Thank you once again for your feedback. Property Owner

"Lovely clean comfortable cottage in the heart of the village, we would definitely love to visit again."
-
"A lovely cottage in a superb location"
-
"A very enjoyable holiday in a lovely cottage in, probably the best position in Castleton."
Lots of walking straight from the door to the beautiful surrounding area.
-
"We had a lovely relaxing stay at the cottage."
It had everything we needed for us and our two dogs. It was cosy welcoming and we had a relaxing break. Castleton is picture perfect with lots to do in the area and such a lovely place to come back to at the end of each day. We are looking forward already to going back to High View again as soon as we can and would’ve hesitate to recommend it to others.
-
"Absolutely fantastic weekend away!"
! The cottage was so homely and we were gutted we had to leave. Will definitely be booking this place again for early next year without a doubt!!
-
"No, really loved the cottage, had a lovely holiday"
-
"Nice little cottage."
Great location. No real outside space if you wanted to put the dogs out or sit in the sun though. Apart from that, great holiday
-
"Lovely little spot in this lovely Peak District village."
Very nicely renovated, exceptionally clean , well appointed and Doggie friendly. We had a super time in this special little cottage. Highly recommended
-
"Lovely comfortable cottage in an ideal location to enjoy walks from the door and facilities in Castleton."
Owners and contact very helpful when we had a problem with the TV would recommend this cottage.
-
"We had a wonderful long weekend at High View, the cottage was absolutely perfect, the attention to detail surpassed expectations as we had everything we needed and more - the boot driers are genius."
Clem our dog was included as there were dog bowls and even a tin of treats. Amazing walk on Saturday, called in several of the local hostelries during our time there not least because on Sunday we were hit by storm Ciara, the snug little cottage meant that we were hardly aware of it. Loved it. Thank you.
-
"Yes, the cottage and location was great, I think the description of the garden needs to be clearer that in fact there is no garden only a seated area across the small road."
This is important if you are coming with dogs as you cant just let them out. That said its lovely this cottage takes dogs. The other bug bare I have which really takes the shine off the cottage experience and it seems to now be a regular feature of Sykes cottages is advertising a log fire and not providing the fuel for it! Its an absolute pain, especially with cottages like these where there is no parking, to have to go and buy and lug your logs, kindling and firelighters up the road, especially if you are on your own as I was. If you are on a short break the last thing you want to do is trawl the local shops and spend an hour locating buying and carrying your logs for your log fire. I personally think its cheap and doesn't reflect well on the experience. The cost is minimal and I don't mind paying for over usage so my suggestion is either charge extra for it (its about £10 for 2 days worth) but at least supply a reasonable amount (more than 2 hours worth which is what we got here) for a 2-3 short day stay.

"Lacking in some kitchen utensils - No Frying pan!"
!
Many thanks for your positive scores, I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay! I'm sorry that you couldn't locate the frying pans, there are in fact two provided in the property. Had we of been contacted during your stay we would have happily resolved this for you. Property Owner
-
"Cottage was wonderful, location couldn't be better 5 mins walk to the village amenities walking in this area is amazing we didn't want to leave booking for a week next time."
-
"The cottage was lovely and ideally located for us."
The only problem we had was with trying to keep the cottage clean and dry during the torrential wet weather we experienced during our stay.. We found it difficult to come back to the cottage to dry our wet things off with there being very little facilities/area to accommodate wet clothes and a dog.
-
"This is a very cosy and comfortable cottage in a prime position, with easy access to all the amenities offered by this charming village."
We will definitely be returning!
-
"With very little effort on the owners part to provide a few simply things l would have scored facilities higher."
We arrived to find that no kindling, logs or matches were provided to light an initial fire, there were no placemats and we had to improvise using newspaper to protect the surface of the table. The cottage information book states that when cleaning the ceramic hob to use a ceramic cleaner none of which was provided. A CD player and a selection of music would also be nice or even a simply radio.
-
"We visited this cottage in June earlier in the year,it has everything we want plus at this time of year central heating which is very efficient."
-
"Enjoyed an amazing stay at High View Cottages from the booking to arrival all aspects were covered by Sykes and the cottage owners, the cottage itself was amazing well furnished comfy sofa and more importantly really comfy bed, with everything needed for a great stay for us as a couple and our dogs & perfectly situated in the village."
Would definitely stay again.
-

The accommodation has been well renovated and has everything you need, king size bed central heating etc. There is an outside area which was great for drinks or eating, the scenery was dramatic and passers by were great for chatting.Looking forward to returning.
-
"The location of this cottage was simply perfect."
We used the tiny seating area outside most evenings and for breakfast in the mornings when the weather permitted. We chatted to many lovely people passing by. We would definitely recommend and would love to return in the future.
-
