"The property was not clean in places."
The placemats had coffee spilt under them on the table. The table had grooves in it and there were crumbs and debris in them, food was left in the cupboards from previous occupants. Black mould was present in the first bedroom and the shower room. We had children coughing through the week and an asthmatic with us who also coughed when in the property.
Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry that you experienced these issues. I have referred this back to the maintenance and cleaning team and the mould has been removed and the cause repaired. New extraction fans have been installed and a damp roof membrane in the walls. Once again, thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback. Property Owner

"Location perfect, was a bit tricky to find, enough room for 2 cars to park."
The boot/coat area where you first go in smells very strongly of damp. Our coats smelt if this. The main rooms are very welcoming and once we had the heating up was warm and comfy. The bedrooms are both a great size and the o suits were nice. Although not having a main bathroom makes it difficult for whoever is sleeping on the sofa bed. It’s advertising 2 sofa beds. there is absolutely no hope of being able to use both. There just isn’t room. When we pulled out the sofa bed, it was filthy. It hadn’t been hoovered or cleaned for some time. The mattress was pretty good, but marked and needs replacing. Bedding and towels provided for all beds were clean and fresh. Superficial cleaning was ok, but look deeper and this place needs investment in the cleaning. It’s an old place, so I do expect a few spiders and cobwebs. But the main dinner table needs a very good clean, so do behind the sofas and beds. And a generally good high clean above head highly. Cooking facilities were very good. Everything you need, washer and dishwasher a great addition. Pubs a couple mins walk away along with cafes for breakfast. We would definitely stay again as the cost and location fitted us. But it does needs a bit of an upgrade with the sofa beds and cleaning. And also lack of windows for ventilation made the place very stuffy. But overall a great place.
Thank you for taking the time to write such detailed feedback. Since your stay, extraction fans have been installed and a damp roof membrane in the walls. We will certainly look into the other issues you have raised like the mattress. I have consulted with the cleaning team and ensured that for future guests they are addressing the points you have raised. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and really hope to see you again soon. Property Owner

"We had a lovely girls' weekend away."
The facilities are excellent and the property is clean to a high standard. It is in a good location and plenty of parking. Negatives are the property is very dark and smells of damp, worse in certain areas. We were unable to open the sky lights to let some air in. Saying that the temperature was only set at 12 degrees on arrival. I would say this is a property for 4 adults not 6.

"We had an excellent stay at the Carriage House."
The place was spotlessly clean and had all the facilities we needed. A great location too.

"We enjoyed our stay here but it was only as a 2 night B&B with the main entertainment being with our family group using the Mill Managers House next door."
Had we had to provide full self catering facilities, it would not have provided the space necessary for 5 persons of adult size. 3 of our group were continually banging their heads on the low roof trusses. Convenient storage space was at a premium. Beds were comfortable and WiFi worked well. The shower room in No1 bedroom was in need of TLC as the drain did not work to capacity so that the 20mm deep shower tray soon filled up and tested the sealant which failed miserably and soaked the adjacent skirting board. The sophisticated shower system only worked as a basic overhead spray. The control for the body sprays and hand held wand could not be operated. The wand tubing was covered in a thick brown grime which fortunately hung out of the way at the side of shower controller. A couple of convenient coat hooks on the door would be a useful addition. This Shower Room let the whole place down but having said that, the other shower worked to specification once you had learnt how to select the settings. There was always plenty of hot water. The property is quirky and novel in many respects and well worth a visit although the so called front of the property will disappoint as the picnic/BBQ and car park area has little privacy.

"The carriage house was very well equipped, clean and comfortable."
Ideally situated for exploring local area. My only criticism was that the outside didn’t match the picture of the carriage house, it looked unkept. Also a plague with the name of the property would have been helpful

"When we found the property we found it a lovely apartment."
Please signpost as the sign says staff parking not holiday cottage here which threw us off. The apartment was lovely, but please replace the knives which weren’t very sharp ( I even used the sharpener which was rubbish ) lots of parking, a few minutes drive from gulivers and a very short walk to the canal. We had an issue with the cleaning which I felt was felt with professionally. Basically there was a strong urine smell in the master bedroom, not sure if it was the mattress? Bed or on the floor? Also when we were packing up and checking under the beds we found medical needles under the bed, can someone contact me about this please and I can share pictures. I would strongly suggest to change cleaners!!

"Apartment was great, plenty of room, clean and good parking."
great character, good location and people on the phone were very helpful. One of our group are planning to take family back there later this year, Plenty around the area to see, walk and eat

"We had a lovely stay at the Carriage House, it's beautifully decorated and the location is fantastic."
Everything was working and was clean, although we did find the odd dog hair in the beds (none of us own a dog). The only issue we had was the size, we were a group of 7 and I think we were just too many to fit. There wasn't space for 7 on the sofas, so we had to sit on the floor, and fitting around the table was hard without rearranging the living room. There were also some windows in the bedroom and living room without curtains, so we were woken up by the light. But even considering this we had a really lovely stay, and would definitely recommend it either to smaller groups or to larger groups who don't mind a bit of discomfort.

"Property was beautiful, quirky, clean and comfortable with all the facilities that you would need being on holiday."
Manager of the property was very helpful. It was very nicely located with canal walk that morphed into the Sheep Pasture Incline (part of the Dales) round the corner, and within half to an hour drive from beautiful villages such as Matlock Bath and Buxton, and stunning Winnats Pass. However, although the property was meant for 7 people with 2 sleeping on 2 sofa beds in the living area, there was not enough room for both sofa beds to be completely laid out. Without a toilet in the common area, people on the sofa beds have to use toilets in the bedrooms which is not ideal. Handles on the toaster and lid on the shower room bin were broken/loose but still usable. With only 1 window and 1 skylight, the lighting in the living area can be improved with more occasional lighting. We had a great stay and I would highly recommend Carriage House especially if the group is smaller or don’t mind being in each other’s space. Thank you for a lovely stay.

"Lovely property."
Had more or less everything we needed. Could of done with some pint glasses though Took quite a while to warm up maybe some little electric heaters to help booslt the warmth up on arrival. (Was 12⁰ inside when we arrived) the house did warm up eventually. And we did have an amazing time and would definitely come back

"Its a lovely house, we really enjoyed our time."
The kitchen is very complete so we could easily prepare a big christmas meal. The area is lovely we went to so many places. Nottingham castle, the meadowmall sheffield, twycross zoo birmingham. It qas a great holliday.
-
"Everything was lovely but the only complaint we have is… there were a lot of mugs and plates with chips in."
Maybe check them after each stay.
Hi, thanks for your feedback. We checked the property but there was only one mug and one plate with a small chip. Maybe you threw the plates out yourself? The amount of equipment was sufficient for all the guests and we always make sure after each stay. Kind regards Property Owner

"Great holiday base with lots to explore on the doorstep (without needing the car) if you are interested in industrial history (or just beautiful country)."
We did a lot of walking and outside activities due to Covid. Cromford has a range of small independent shops - including a famous bookshop and an amazing chocolatier with chocolates made on the premises. Cromford Mill has a lovely cheese shop which also sells locally produced biscuits, cakes and other treats. Also a butchers/deli, post office and small general store in the village just a couple of minutes walk, and also pubs/cafes/takeaways. Well equipped flat with everything you need. We also had a call from the housekeeping company to confirm bed layout before we went. The flat was very clean with plenty of loo roll for four people (mentioned in other review). Having off street parking was great (wedding shop mentioned in other reviews was closed, so no one else was attempting to park in the car parking area). Blinds are fitted to the velux windows in the bedrooms now - a criticism in some earlier reviews. The wheelie bins had migrated up the road and were outside the Mill Manager's house. The owner responded very quickly to an email to confirm they were the ones to use for our rubbish. We really enjoyed our holiday - thank you!

"We enjoyed a lovely stay at the Carriage House in August."
The flat has a cosy interior but space for 6 of us. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking and the dishwasher and washing machine came in very useful. We had a slight issue with the lock but the owner was quick to respond and resolve it. The dining area is perfect for a group meal and the sofas and sofa bed are comfy. The whole place was in great condition when we arrived, and we had a phone call from the cleaning staff before we arrived to ask how we wanted the beds arranged. The location was great, perfect for exploring Cromford and heading out on walks further afield. Just a short drive to Matlock and the big Sainsbury’s. Perfect stay, we will definitely come again.

"This is a lovely apartment in a beautiful location, with lots to do locally."
The village is a very short walk away with some nice pubs and restaurants. The mill complex over the road was really interesting and there are lovely shops/ a cafe. With a few tweaks the accommodation could be amazing. The main issue we had was lack of ventilation/ windows. We stayed during a heatwave and it was unbearably hot, especially as the kitchen/ living room area has no windows that open. A few basics like tea towels were missing from the kitchen, several cups and glasses were chipped and the pans and trays were dirty and had to be rewashed. Nothing major and we still had a brilliant time!
-
"The bbq grill was disgusting - covered in mould and totally unusable."
We were left unable to check in for an hour and a half due to the key not being in the key safe. Only one toilet roll was left for 6 people which is very poor.
-
"Lovely little spot to get away for a few days."
Traditional stone building with lovely exposed beams.
-
"The Carriage House is an amazing flat, really nicely decorated and designed."
The layout is perfect, open and spacious with great finishes. The bedrooms are airy and light. However the one small downside was that the beds are made up of 2 single mattresses pushed together so can get a bit uncomfortable in the middle. That was the only minor issue. The chocolates and wine was a lovely welcome gift too - great stay and would love to go back
-
"The accommodation was better than expected, very clean and well equipped."
The location was ideal, just a stones throw away from pubs & restaurants and was nice and quiet. The sofas were not the comfiest and the low beams were a hazard for me and anyone else over 6foot tall - however we very much enjoyed our stay and would recommend to family & friends.
-
"We would have expected property to be cleaner on arrival given we had to hoover due to food debris on the floor."
Also, property was advertised as having parking for three cars yet the parking for the property is now also customer parking for the business located downstairs, which we were not made aware of. There was one evening where people where in the property downstairs making lots of noise and banging, late at night when our children were in bed. We chose the property without being informed via the listing that there is a business below and had we known we may not have booked this property.
Thank you for letting us know your thoughts, customer feedback is very important to us. We apologise for any areas that had been over looked by the cleaning team, we now have a new cleaning team in place. Property Owner

"We really enjoyed our stay at the Carriage House."
The accommodation was clean & tidy with a fully equipped kitchen (fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine). Both bedrooms were comfortable with clean bedding & towels provide. Each had an ensuite (1 with shower, the other shower/bath). Ample parking space for 3 cars, the front car area is the only outside space (table & bbq) but this didn't prove a problem as the surrounding area has ample places to use and we did sit in the front area in the evenings without disturbance - the wall shields you from the road/public path. The ground floor is used by a local business (wedding planners) but we had no issues/noise and only one customer used the parking area which was not a problem...in fact you wouldn't know they were there. The only slight issue were the sofas...this has been raised in previous reviews, but to be fair the weather & area meant we were out most of the time & a couple of pillows/cushions & covers on them proved adequate to watch TV. Also, the living area does not have a window you can open to allow air flow - there is a big window for natural light (both bedrooms do have windows that open ). However despite the very warm weather during our weeks stay, the building was not overly warm...it would be nice to have had a window to open however this maybe down to building restrictions. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay and would recommend the Carriage House as a great accommodation and good area for easy access to surrounding places of interest too.

"Lovely cottage in a quaint village."
Everything we needed was in the cottage. Very well equipped with no expense spared. Lovely weekend .

"The Carriage House is in a brilliant location and has been decorated and fitted out to a high standard but unfortunately the second bedroom and bathroom were not made up/ready to use and the cleaning was minimal, which surprised me with the current Covid situation."
There were quite a few cobwebs, unclean baking trays and it felt that the bear minimum had been done. The bin lid was also broken. The bedding was clean but so old, with buttons missing and split pillow cases and it very much needs replacing. The TV aerial in bedroom 2 didn't work and the sofa beds are so uncomfortable that we actually left a day early as we couldn't spend another evening sitting on them - after a day of walking a comfortable sofa is very much needed. Luckily the beds were very comfortable. A business has opened up underneath and so the parking area/outdoor space is now a customer car park and was not as described - luckily we had one car and no trouble parking but on several occasions the business owners were parked too and so if we had more than one car, or wanted to enjoy a BBQ, this would have been problematic. The location is fantastic but we were disappointed. We have stayed at many other places and the little touches that make an o.k. place great were unfortunately missing.
Thank you for your feedback. We do apologise for any disappointment caused regarding the cleanliness of the property, we now have a new cleaning team. We have also replaced one of the sofas in the property. Property Owner

"Great location and near all the main sights."
The cottage was clean and interior well presented. Definitely would consider returning or recommending to others.
-
"Had a wonderful time away with the family, accommodation was fantastic and accurately described."
Would definitely love to return to the carriage house. 5 star ⭐️

"Left early as roof lights kept us awake but the owner informed us he is going to remedy this."
-
"The flat is comfortable and well equipped."
We found no fault with it, though there are some low beams. Cromford is a quiet base from which to explore the Peak District. Nearby we enjoyed visiting the Mills and a walk on the canal and High Peak Trail. One of our party dropped her phone on the top of the hills. Our host Jennie saved the day using local Facebook to reunite us with the phone in about an hour - top marks for responsive customer service!

"Great stay at the Carriage House."
Lovely place to stay, fantastic location, very happy.
-
"On the whole, enjoyed our stay here."
It's a great central location to go exploring and there are some good pubs and walks within walking distance. The living space is cosy - as a few have mentioned, the sofas really aren't that comfy (can't imagine anyone sleeping on them!). There were also NO blinds in the velux windows. I contacted the owner on the same day to explain we were being woken at 5am because of the light - seemingly nothing could be done and we were up early for the whole week (not what you go on holiday for). This had been pointed out in a review in Sept 2018 and still hasn't been rectified. Tip: take an eye mask!

"I loved the cottage!"
Had amazing interior and facilities, loved the barbeque there.
-
"Would recommend the Carriage House was lovely, everything would could have wanted."
Everything in the house was completed to a very high standard even down to colour changing taps! Excellent location, and would recommend the little tapas restaurant which is within staggering distance.
-
"The Carriage House was warm, clean and very comfortable."
It had everything you needed very modern and the box of Thorntons left for us was a lovely thought too.
-
"Great location as a base for walking in the Peak District, superb accommodation and very comfortable."
-
"The cottage was really modern with great parking and a great location"
-
"Excellent facilities in the carriage house and in a great location for exploring the local area."
Would definitely stay here again.
-
"The Carriage House is beautiful and the location is excellent."
The only issue that we had was the sofa beds. They are not comfortable in the slightest; to sit on or to sleep on. Which is a big problem when the house is advertised for 7 people as the two sofa beds are classed as two beds. All the other beds are very comfortable and the welcome chocolates was a lovely touch. Ignoring the sofa beds, we had a great stay and would definitely stay there again.
-
"The cottage is lovely, with a fantastic mix of old features."
We particularly enjoyed the kitchen. The location is great, within about 20-30 min drive from some great walks, and Cromford is very pretty. We were a little surprised there was a lack of some basic facilities for such an otherwise well stocked kitchen - no corkscrew, no cooking oil, no tin foil. In the bedrooms, while the beds were really comfortable, there was a skylight window in both which doesn’t have a blind - meaning we were all woken up earlier than we’d have liked by the sun. I would suggest getting a blind for these, as it was really quite irritating. Also neither tv in the bedroom worked, despite getting instructions on how to put them on. The cottage itself was a little cold, especially when we arrived which was about 11pm. We couldn’t get it to come on to the temperature we’d liked, perhaps radiators need bleeding after the summer, but again this would be something we’d suggest looking at. All in all a great place and a good price, but some small annoyances preventing it from being perfect!

"The place was an interesting accommodation very clean, However we were a little surprised when we arrived and there were no basic supplies there."
This is the eighth self catering we have used in England and was the first that did not have basic supplies such as dish soap, salt, pepper, extra toilet tissue, sugar and enough tea and coffee for a couple of days. The beds were very comfortable, however the leather sofas in the living area were hard and away too low to be comfortable to sit on for any length of time, especially for us Senior Citizens. We had to bring out the pillows from the beds to make them comfortable enough to sit and watch TV. I would recommend getting rid of at least one of them and putting in a couple of easy chairs that are higher off the floor. On the whole we enjoyed our stay and liked that it was close enough to things that we could walk where we wanted to go, even though we had a rented car. R. Junkin

"Lovely quirky holiday apartment with many interesting design features and a welcoming atmosphere."
Location is good, too, with a choice of places to eat and drink virtually on the doorstep and an ideal base for walks of varying lengths and features.
-
"Lovely accommodation."
Perfect. Everything we wanted to see was on the doorstep and the weather helped. Beds were so comfy and the en suite facilities were great. We got chocolates on arrival and Jennie left her contact details in case we needed anything. Can't praise the whe experience enough. Large family table to sit around was great. Thank you so much.

"The building is clean, new and modern."
Me and my family had enjoyed our 3 nights stay here a lot. The cottage is fully equipped with kitchen utensils so it's really useful if you want to cook a family meal. The cottage is also very close to its town and a big supermarket sainsburys is 10mins drive away. We would definitely return and recommend the Carriage House to anyone visiting the Peak District!
-
"Absolutely amazing!"
The cottage was well set up with everything we needed. The kitchen had all relevant equipment needed for cooking. Cottage was cosy and clean. Set up like a hotel which was great. A brilliant experience!
-
"We had a really enjoyable break in this lovely cottage with lovely days out and walks on the door step, there are some great attractions nearby including the heights of Abraham and Crich Tramway Village that we all really enjoyed as well as being close to Alton Towers."
The only dampener for us was the uncomfortable sofas, as we had children we came back on an evening rather than go out, we enjoy watching a film or TV, the smart TV was a great set up for this but the sofas meant we found it very uncomfortable to sit for any length of time, I think these were chosen as sofa beds to maximize the amount of people this cottage could sleep. I wouldn't advertise this for 7 people its quite fine for 5 but any more feels crowded as we had 2 people come over who stayed nearby and found this to be the case. Overall i would recommend this cottage its a great base to explore the local area and the cottage is done up to a great standard an old building with a modern interior and facilities. I would recommend it even more so if the sofas were changed.
-
"Our experience of staying at the Carriage House was excellent."
The arrangements with the owners worked very well and we had everything we needed for our weekend stay. We were only there for the weekend but if I were staying longer it would be nice to have slightly cosier sofas. Thank you for helping us to enjoy our weekend
-
"An absolutely stunning period property in a charming location."
