• "Superb modern design house with lots of sunshine,!"

  Views and garden. We noticed one small problem, the floor and daily living has no toilet , For older people climbing steep stairs and it can be distracting.

• "A spacious stylish house with high quality furniture and fittings."

  Quiet location in a pretty village handy for walks, attractions and a good pub. Super showers, very comfy beds in a variety of configurations. A bath in one en suite-good for young children. Plenty of storage. A very well equipped kitchen with just about everything a large self catering group might need (could do with a sieve and some serving spoons please). Plenty of pans,cutlery and crockery etc. There’s a great steeply terraced garden with a warm water hose for washing the dog,various sitting areas and a lawn as well as a giant rockery (care needed for the very young and the older person..). The living area is great for the large tv and board game playing. Plenty of local information. There are lots of dining chairs and four large sofas and a chair in the open plan sitting area, all of which are very comfortable. Altogether a house which is very stylish but also super practical for a large multi generation family party. Glass topped tables take the fear out of toddler meals! Talking of which there are stair gates, high chairs and cots available. A nice welcome pack, plenty of sockets (even near mirrors!) and charging cables are provided. Good WiFi and off street parking all go to make this a really fantastic holiday home. The owner responded very quickly and helpfully to our queries. It’s on three floors so plenty of stairs to keep you fit for the peaks…

• "We stayed for a week to celebrate my daughter’s first Christmas with her grandparents and what a special week it was."

  The house is absolutely fantastic, with a superb open plan kitchen/dining/living space and generously sized bedrooms - perfect for entertaining and socialising, as well as privacy and solitude when needed. The views are spectacular and the local area is picturesque with 2 fab pubs close by. There are baby gates, high chairs and a cot available making it very infant/child friendly and the kitchen has every utensil you could wish for, a great help when rustling up our Christmas Day feast. There are only 2 cons and they are very minor; 1 being we found it very hard to turn the heating down and the secondly the bath towels are small so I’d recommend taking your own. Aside from that, it was everything we hoped for and more - we will without a doubt be back! Thank you so much

• "There were 8 adults in our party, and we all thought the property was great, we really enjoyed our long weekend."

  We enjoyed the food in the Gate Inn and also did the Sunday night quiz at the Tavern. We have done a lot of weekends away like this as a group and some of them had a games room. The bedroom downstairs without an en suit would make a great one. Thanks for a great stay in a lovely house.

• "The house was excellent and very well kitted out except the towels were very small (and none of us are large people)."

  We’d expect bath sheets in a house of this standard. There’s nothing you can do about the roof but the sound of heavy rain kept us all awake one night. The pillows in the main bedroom were rock hard. I don’t know about the other bedrooms. These issues apart, it’s a fabulous rental and we were very happy. Thank you.

• "Oakwood house was a wonderful property for my family to enjoy a special birthday celebration."

  The house is immaculate and all the fittings and furnishings are of a very high standard. We loved the open plan living area to be together for meals and plenty of space to relax. All appreciated the lovely bedrooms , comfortable beds and luxurious bathrooms ! The views are wonderful from the house too ! We highly recommend The Gate Inn for Sunday lunch ! Hopefully we will be back again for another family get together as it was perfect !

• "Such a lovely house, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, views were amazing."

  Would definitely recommend to one and all. If I could point out a couple of minor things, the main oven may have been mistakenly over looked as it could do with a clean, also more detailed instructions on turning up heating as we could not turn it up and downstairs bedrooms were cold. Would we stay again? Absolutely, in-fact already booked for next year.

• "Great property, everything you could ask for was on hand for the 10 family members we had."

• "Great property but only fault is the garden being listed as fully enclosed when there isn’t any side gate to keep dogs secure in garden."

• "I would really like to give the rating a 4."

  5 but no the option for this. There are a few things, the garden has not be attended to in quite some time so lots if weeds including the planters at the front. The oven was very unclean and the dining table was very sticky. We loved the house overall however the layout was great for our 3 families, beautifully appointed and had everything you could need.

The table is cleaned each stay, however with its use, the varnish is now starting to wear, so we are hoping the glass resolves this. • "A beautiful house with beautiful views, with everything you need and very clean."

  Oakwood house has a lovely, quiet enclosed rear garden, great for the children to play games. The rocky climb up to it wasn't a problem for us but the patio area is certainly good enough to enjoy the outside if some find it too steep. We, a family of 10 and a dog, had a fantastic holiday. It's situated very close to Matlock, my husband and me walked there, but it's 5 minutes in the car. I would without doubt stay there again and highly recommend

• "This property is beautiful!"

  So good that we have booked for July 2025. The patio area could do with a clean up of fag ends and a barbecue would be good to have, also a gate to the side for people who bring dogs and children….

• "We had a great stay and all said that it was the best holiday home we had been in so far."

  One small improvement for us, as dog owners, would be a gate at the side of the property so the back garden could be completely enclosed. But we managed to fill the gap with some chairs so it wasn't a problem. Apart from that it was perfect, very modern with multi-device chargers everywhere and loads of kitchen equipment, plus having bathrooms for each bedroom was a fantastic touch.

• "The property is wonderful, well appointed with many luxury features."

  We had a few issues, nothing we couldn't deal with, however: The fridge hadn't been cleaned properly, crumbs on the shelves. The dining table was sticky, the outside table was dirty. We didn't find the extra cutlery drawer (inside the pan drawer) until the 3rd day, just assumed there wasn't a vegetable peeler. The second last day there was a dreadful smell emanating from the sink but no bleach or disinfectant. We coped with boiling water. There were no hooks in some bathrooms for hanging up a bathrobe. No heated towel rails - towels dried because the house was warm. Some of us had a large gap below the shower door, causing a puddle on the floor. We appreciated the instant hot water, the comfortable beds (all arranged in the configuration we requested) and charging leads provided.

• "A wonderful house in a great location."

• "This really is a fabulous house and is exactly as advertised."

  Everything has been fitted out with top end products and the views are just another bonus! A great place for any large gathering and if you happen to be into walking, it couldn't be in a finer location. With The Gate Inn just around the corner, it really is perfect.

• "Fantastic property, well equipped and furnished to a very high standard."

  Parking for 5 cars is a little tight (we just managed with 4) and there is no toilet/cloakroom on the "living" floor so elderly guests have to climb stairs. The outside bins were full when we arrived (a Monday) and we struggled to dispose of waste. Notwithstanding these minor items we had a fabulous stay - lots to do and see and a good nights' sleep. Highly recommended!

• "Oakwood House is a fantastic property in a great location."

  The fixtures and fittings are wonderful, the kitchen is well equipped and the beds very comfortable. Having the laundry room is a great bonus, as is a bathroom for each bedroom. It is easy walking distance to two good pubs, and there are numerous hiking trails and sightseeing opportunities. I would not hesitate to recommend this property and hope to return in the future.

• "The house is a fantastic space for friends and family."

  Each room has its own bathroom. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need as well as the rest of the house. We stayed in February so couldn’t really enjoy the outside space but I imagine in the warmer months being outside with a bbq would be fantastic. The village it’s self is lovely and we would recommend a roast at the nearby Gate Inn.

• "Oakwood house was beautiful."

  It had everything we needed and more. It had plenty of space for 7 adults, a child and a dog! It was spotlessly clean and comfortable with a large garden for the dog to roam around The location was great, near to pubs, shops and nice walks ( to pubs and a local brewery mainly ) A lovely stay. Hope to be back again soon.

• "Fabulous property."

  8 of us stayed ( 4 couples) to enjoy a trip to chatsworth xmas Market and house. We had a wonderful time. We would not hesitate to recommend or re-book. Although be quick as the calendar is pretty full for next yr already ( we looked for NYE 24/25, it's booked) Never we'll have to decide on another date for our return

• "Fantastic house, 7 of us stayed for 3 nights and had a great time."

  Plenty of space and good quality furnishings and kitchen equipment. Felt like home from home. Superb views across the valley from the sitting room windows. Had a lovely walk from the house through the Lumsdale Valley and had the best Sunday Roast at the Gate Inn in the village, great to be able to walk to from the house too. Would definitely recommend

• "The house is absolutely beautiful, in a lovely quite village and only a 30 minute walk to Matlock."

  The house has plenty of space, very clean and well equipped, everything you could possibly need is catered for. The beds and pillows are very comfortable and the bed linen is spotless. We were very grateful for the welcome pack as well.

• "This was an incredibly modern property, and such an incredible place to stay in the beautiful English countryside."

  There was more than enough space for 10 adults to stay comfortably, and many things to see nearby. We highly recommend the Crich Tramway Village. Our only point of feedback was that the property would benefit from better ventilation - the floor to ceiling doors look luxury but we weren’t always comfortable leaving them ajar to let air in whilst we slept, some windows or desk fans would have helped!

• "There were great facilities all round with en-suite bathrooms and televisions in everyone room."

  It was much appreciated that basic amenities were provided. The owner, Alan, was very courteous and dealt with a small leak in the kitchen immediately. The garden was a great feature and the kitchen, dining room and lounge area was spacious and well laid out. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their stay. Overall, an excellent holiday home furnished and equipped to a very high standard.
