"The Nest was a lovely place to stay."
It was cosy and had everything we needed. It was a great location for the places we wanted to visit. We would definitely recommend staying at The Nest.
-
"Lovely cottage just what we needed."
Location good for everywhere in Peak District area, car driving maximum of 45mins (Chesterfield) with lots just a short journey away
-
"Lovely cottage in the middle of Derbyshire."
Close to Buxton and larger shops. Lots of walks nearby. The recent modifications are top quality. WiFi works even if the mobile signal is patchy. Would recommend it.

"The cottage was gorgeous, small and cosy, equipped with everything we needed."
We were able to put our bikes out of sight and under cover, which is important to us. We don't have a car, so the proximity of Cowdale to Buxton railway station and shops was useful, as was the hourly bus which runs to Bakewell and on to Sheffield. The bus stop is about 25 minutes' walk away. There are some good walks from the door, too. Andrew and Lucy, who live in the farmhouse, were very helpful and friendly. Pity the weather wasn't good enough to sit at the outside table, but it was March, after all! We'd love to come back and explore the area further.

"The Nest is a super cottage for two situated on a farm near Buxton."
Smart bathroom and shower and well equipped kitchen. We would have liked more substantial pillows but otherwise this is a top quality rental property.
-

"The Nest was superbly furnished and very comfortable."
The farm was a wonderful location. We were made very welcome. It was a quiet and restful place while being just 5 minutes from Buxton. We thoroughly recommend it.

"I first stayed in The Nest in 2014."
Back then it was warm and comfortable, but small, basic and a bit dark. It has now been transformed! If you have stayed before you wouldn't recognise it now. The new Nest has been extended out into a neighbouring room under the roof (the old laundry) and two Velux windows have been added, one in the new kitchen area and one in the new bathroom. The result is a gorgeous spacious and airy apartment. It's really comfortable, and the underfloor heating and high levels of insulation keep it lovely and cosy. The kitchen is very well equipped (the dinky dishwasher is genius). The dining table opens out easily to a good-sized circle. The living area has all you need, and there is plenty of storage in the bedroom. The bathroom is smart, light and airy. The Nest was spotlessly clean when I arrived, and I was very glad of the welcome pack of tea, coffee, milk and biscuits. All in all, a beautifully done transformation. Congratulations to Andrew and Lucy for doing this. I really enjoyed my stay and will definitely be back!

"Recent renovation provided probably the best quality apartment we have stayed in for a holiday"
-
"A wonderful ground floor cottage, recently substantially renovated and refurbished to a very high standard (ignore any reviews prior to Dec 2022)."
Clean, warm, with everything you could need with very helpful and friendly hosts. You can walk across the fields to Buxton and it’s perfectly set to explore the Peak District and beyond.

"The Nest is as described."
Small but generally comfortable. The bed is comfortable but narrow and difficult to access. Water pressure in shower is a little low, but we are talking a conversion here. For a short break it's ideal. Owners are very friendly. Be aware it is a working farm so there is activity during the day. We enjoyed our three night stay.

"The Nest is cosy and wonderfully located for exploring the Peak District."
The bed was very comfy and the kitchen well equiped for simple Cooking. Unfortunately the shower was not working and was on a cycle of freezing cold or scolding hot no matter how I adjusted the settings. Maybe I missed something obvious but I don’t think I did. If you are a light sleeper like me I would maybe avoid as the fridge was very noisy and being a studio flat it was close to the bed. The noise of people moving about upstairs was also very loud. If you are unlucky enough as me to get people that wander around for an hour in the middle of the night it can disturb your sleep. That being said if you are a heavy sleeper or things like that don’t bother you then it’s a comfortable stay and I’m sure the shower issue will be fixed as I did inform the property. It really is well located and there is a great footpath that starts just outside the farm leading to beautiful countryside.

"Great little place to come back to a non-mind after a busy day."
It was excellent.
-
"Well situated in the Peak district for walking, cycling and other attractions."
Accommodation fine but small. Some disturbance from apartment above, mainly if they were heavy footed!!! But not enough to ruin the peacefulness of the stay.
-
"A lovely little cottage that suited our needs perfectly."
The hosts were very welcoming and included a few little extras that weren’t expected. Just to highlight the oven is a microwave oven - something that I overlooked in the original description but it was absolutely fine for our short stay. A perfect location to visit several other areas nearby. Would highly recommend and book again.
-
"Lovely place to stay and the owners were so lovely too."
Pets welcome and very polite people in the other apartments too. Would highly recommend. Thank you so much for a lovely stay
-
"Fantastic little no frills accommodation."
Warm and comfortable and met our requirements for our short stay. Beautiful setting. Lovely hosts. Only thing I would change is the lack of a gate at the front of the property. I feel it would benefit dog owners no end to be able to open the door and contain the dog in the small garden area whilst sitting having a morning coffee as a table and chairs are provided. Other than that everything was great. Comfy, clean and warm. Thank you for a lovely stay. Would definitely return.
-
"Set in a lovely part of the peaks, friendly owners, not luxury but suited our needs, small drawback was the sound of footsteps from above ,but it wouldn't stop us from rebooking."
-
"The property a bit felt damp, I had great weather so it was not an issue, but if it had been a cold and wet week may have been different, also could do with some sound proofing from 'The Loft' above as you could hear the guests clumping around."
Other than that a very nice basic place and just what I expected and wanted.
-
"Friendly caring owners & clean & cosy accommodation."
Not a criticism, but a simple gate in the wall outside would help dog owners.
-
"Lovely cosy accommodation which has everything you need."
A good location to go and explore the surrounding areas. Really friendly owners, made us feel really welcome. I would definitely recommend to others and would love to come back again in the future.
-
"The location is fantastic, hosts were friendly and accommodating and the Nest was comfortable with everything we needed."
Many thanks!
-
"We booked it at short notice as i was desperate to have a weekend break away from the house as i had been working all through lockdown."
At first i had trouble finding anyway finally found this lovely little place the owners could not do enough and they were doing well thankyou so much for a relaxed stay.
-
"I had been to the property a couple of times before so chose it for excellent access to walking/cycling opportunities and for its reasonable price with good basic facilities."
New owners are keen to renovate and presumably upgrade, but I hope they maintain this dimension for people like me... Simple comfort, quiet and good location are very valuable.

About the location
BUXTON
Tideswell 7 miles; Bakewell 12 miles; Matlock 21 miles.
It was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House. Today visitors continue to enjoy these magnificent buildings and gardens, as well as the Opera House's full programme and annual festivals of music and arts. There is good walking close by with rugged peaks to the north and gentle hills and dales to the south and a number of pretty towns and villages are dotted throughout including Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton and Edale. The stunning properties of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy driving distance and must be seen while visiting this area. A great base for exploring the Peak District.
