  • "Lovely cosy cottage with everything we needed."

Lovely scenery and grounds for us to enjoy and some much appreciated welcome treats. Mrs Weldon made us very welcome and even gave us some helpful weather updates prior to our arrival. The snow was the icing on the cake. Great place to just relax in the peace and quiet or enjoy the many local walks and reservoirs . Locals also really friendly.

  • "A lovely, relaxing stay in a fabulous, well-located, cottage."

The views from both inside and outside were spectacular! It was refreshing, too, for our furry friend with a lovely area to exercise in. The nearby areas and towns were very enjoyable to visit, in particular Upperbank Reservoir and Holmfirth. Our only problem during our stay was Mother Nature treating us to cold, wet, weather which, obviously, was beyond the remit of our friendly, welcoming hosts. Absolutely Lovely!!

  • "Big problem with the holiday was that my wife put her back out and we went home early."

She needs to use a wheelchair now but it should only be for few weeks. This has nothing to do with the cottage. The cottage was great and so well equipped. As a keen gardener the grounds at Underbank Hall were as they say "to die for". I don't know how the owners keep it in such good condition. If you drive an eV there are a number of contactless eV chargers at the Fox valley centre in town.

It’s set in lovely gardens with views of trees/fields. Delia left wonderful homemade scones, jam, butter and milk. What a treat! She also went to great effort checking if local eateries could cater for my food allergy. It’s near to Holmfirth and the Peak District.

We were welcomed by Mrs Weldon, the owner, and then when we went into the cottage there was a welcome tray of home made scones, jam, butter and milk and also a posy on the table with seasonal flowers from their beautiful gardens. The property itself was of the highest standard, with everything in place for another lovely stay. The only disappointing thing about our stay was we had missed the deer in their garden ! We booked it to be away from the manic fireworks in Nottingham as our dog hates them so much and yes we could hear them in the cottage but they were a mile away and he wasn't too bothered. The gardens of the main house are massive and we could tell that they would be truly lovely in the summer. The scones and jam were a nice touch as were the 2 big towels each in the bathroom, the bed is comfy and the cottage nice and warm, looking at booking again in the warmer weather.

Originally the housekeepers cottage for Underbank Hall, it has been converted into a very cozy holiday let. Very quiet and surrounded by attractive landscaped gardens it is a real gem. Well equipped with ample cutlery and crockery to enable the use of the dishwasher (not always the case in one bedroomed properties!) and well placed for walking and visiting nearby attractions (we went to Cannon Hall Farm and Nostell (NT). The cottage itself was of a high standard and the rooms were much bigger than the photos made them look. Everything was catered for and lovely and clean. The bed was amazingly comfortable with lovely crisp linen to fall into. The towels were also of a high standard and ranged from face flannels right up to bath sheets and were on a heated rack in the bathroom itself. Langsett reservoir is close by; Wentworth, Chatsworth & Longshaw & the Yorkshire sculpture park are all a reasonable drive away. The cottage had everything we needed; as others have mentioned the bed was very comfortable. The enclosed garden is quite small, but that was ideal for our dog, especially as we were able to walk her in David & Delia's garden & by crossing the road walk a mile & a half up the lane, with little traffic, great views & surrounded by fields with grazing sheep & cows. Quiet area close to shops. Cosy and comfortable cottage, beautiful gardens and views. We arrived to a plate of scones and homemade strawberry jam and freshly picked strawberry’s from the walled vegetable and fruit garden. We needed to drive to walk the dog as no footpath on road. However, Penistone is a 10 minute drive away and is a lovely town. There’s a huge park at the back of Tesco’s which is great for dogs and a lovely walk along the old railway line. Would definitely recommend Underbank Cottage. Thank you Mr and Mrs Weldon for a great stay.

It is spotlessly clean, well-equipped and very spacious for two people with a large living area/kitchen and a huge bedroom with en suite facilities. The cottage garden is very well-stocked and well-maintained but its main advantage is that it looks out over the owners’ huge and beautifully-presented grounds and beyond to views of the local moors; simply stunning. We also found the location to be convenient for long walks and visits to National Trust properties nearby. For those who enjoy cinema, the Penistone Paragon is a must; it’s like taking a trip back to the 1950s and is well worth a visit, if only for the interval where you queue up for ice-cream (just like in the olden days)! We strongly recommend this property and would like to say a big ‘Thank You’ to Delia and David, the delightful owners whose discreet presence was reassuring but at no times intrusive.

The cottage was in a beautiful location and was clean, cosy and calming. The gardens were magnificent and we met "the gardener" who turned out to be the owner. We spent a long time with him wandering around discussing the plants and flowers. The chickens were amazing with feathered crowns. The home-made scones were a delight and a welcome sight on arrival. We will be booking again, in a different season to see how things change as there was so much to see. Stocksbridge was a few minutes away and is well supported with shops and businesses although the fuel there is pricey. We found cheaper on our travels. The moors have little signposting so as to preserve the scenery, so a really good OS map is essential. There are some really beautiful villages to be discovered (and tearooms). There is a walk from the cottage which takes you down to the reservoir and as the walk is circular you end up back home.
