We had good weather and so had a couple of BBQ evenings too. Lovely location with the opportunity for several car free days with walks and using trains and bus. Easy to walk into Edale which has a lovely campsite cafe and small shop, as well as a couple of pubs. We had a great week!

A short walk from the cottage on footpaths into the village and also to lovely walks on kinder scout and Mam Tor. The cottage and beds are really comfortable with friendly owners. We were a party of 6 and there was plenty of room.

  • "Fantastic property in an amazing location."

If you love walking then this will be the place for you. Everything you need is within walking distance. Edale is an unspoiled little village with 2 pubs, a railway station and cafe plus a brilliant cafe/bistro with post office and general store at Newfold farm campsite, all within a pleasant 10 minute stroll from the house but take a torch if walking down after dark. Meadow view is one of four holiday homes on Cotefield Farm but we were hardly aware of the other guests. Sally and John have furnished the properties beautifully and used top quality mattresses and bedding plus all three bedrooms have their own en-suite shower rooms so a perfect house for family or friends to share. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property and location and hope to return.

As we always do, my friends and I spent a pleasant pub dinner discussing the faults of our accommodation. This was a very short discussion as we simply couldn't find any faults! Sally, the owner, should be rightly proud of the job she has done at Meadow View, it is fantastic, probably the best of 20 or so places we have stayed in the past decade.

It is peaceful and very well equipped with everything you could want. The outside furntiture was great in the hot weather, a lovely place to sit after a day spent in the glorious countryside. Lots to see and do in the area and many, well-marked footpaths. Two nice pubs within easy walking distance for pub grub.

  • "We had a wonderful week at Meadow View."

The house was extremely comfortable and is ideally placed for a walking holiday. We parked the car on arrival and didn't need to use it again until we left. The property is on a working farm surrounded by fields of sheep who were a little noisy at times but that just added to the character of the property. We chatted to the owners on a couple of occasions who were very pleasant.

  • "The facility/cottage was confortable and quite convenient in terms of location."

However we had a couple of unpleasant exchanges with the owner of the property, firstly when we had an issue with a clogged shower. She basically blamed us for causing the problem, which was completely unrealisitc having taken two showers only. Later we had a problem with the smoke alarm and the owner complained that our 3 years old was "smuggled in" without their consensus, basically diverting the focus of the attention away from the real issue . We suggest to the owners of the cottages to be a bit more friendly and welcoming with their customers.

We are sorry that you feel you had a couple of unpleasant exchanges with us but we were just clarifying that we had cleaned the property ourselves and had checked the shower drainage plug at this time. As responsible owners who have been with Sykes over 24 years , we take our responsibilities very seriously. Our insurance company need to be aware if a property is over occupied as it was with the 3 year old that was not on your booking. Property Owner

  • "We had a fab stay at Meadow view."

the Barn had everything we could wish for, especially in the well equipped kitchen. Mrs Gee the owner was very helpful and on site should we need her. The beds and bedding we exceptional quality and very cosy! And the Barn was heated well. We were worried with the bad weather forecast and having three relatives well into their 80s, whether it was going to be warm enough. It certainly was, and in fact we had to turn down the rads sometimes! If we were really picky the only thing it lacked in the bathrooms were some shelves or maybe small bathroom drawer sets in which to put your toiletries. Plus some pegs on the backs of the bathroom doors to hang your wet towels to dry. Whilst there is a towel radiator its not big enough for two bath towels. Once other thing is that we could not make calls using our mobiles and the wi-fi is patchy but we kind of expected that given its remote location. All in all a fab barn in a stunning location. We will be back!

  • "The website photos don't do the cottage justice, two of the three bedrooms are very big and the lounge area very spacious."

The kitchen has everything you could possibly need, even an electric whisk. The dining table could possibly be less wide as there is only room to seat four people on three sides of the table in the narrow space between the kitchen and lounge area. We overcame this by having the two children (6 and 3) eat separately before the adults. Everywhere was spotlessly clean! Great to have en-suites in every bedroom too. The only minus points for our group were outside: there could have been seat cushions for the metal outside chairs and the carpark maybe arranged so that the lovely views from the patio area aren't obscured by vehicles - particularly as there were no picnic benches in the paddock as mentioned in the listing. Having said that, we would be happy to return!

We have also been very impressed with the polite and courteous way in which all of the staff at Sykes Cottages dealt with our booking and sent out all of the relevant information about the cottages that we had booked, the staff have a refreshing ‘nothing is too much trouble’ attitude to their customers and this is why we will always return to Sykes Cottages. The location was beautiful with plenty of walks from the door, as well as a short walk to the pub in Edale village. As we arrived in lambing season, it was a delight to have the ewes and lambs outside the door. Mrs Gee was a wonderful host and to manage these cottages with lambing in full swing was no mean feat! The cottages had everything in that we could have needed, down to dishwasher tablets and extra loo roll. Having stayed in a lot of cottages, it is nice to report how clean the cottage was, how comfortable the beds were, how well equipped the kitchen was and how powerful the showers were.

The cottage was very comfortable, very well furnished and the views were stunning. Looks over grazing sheep and hills. More than enough room for all six of us and the three ensuites were lovely. All clean and in great condition; well-equipped kitchen. Nice fenced area in front for children to play or just to sit and relax. Would definitely return.
