  • "We enjoyed a wonderful two weeks at Midfeather Cottage and it was just as we remembered from previous visits."

The cottage was a real home from home and had everything we needed and was a pleasure to return to after a day exploring. There was plenty to do in the surrounding area and plenty of walks straight from the cottage. We enjoyed meeting Fly again and the owners, Sally and John, were the perfect hosts.

There were plenty of walking trails and a great pub just a short walk away. The views of the fields and mountains from the cottage were amazing. The hosts were very friendly and kept the place really nice, including decorations for the holiday season. We hope to stay there again on a future trip! Thanks!

Good walking right from the cottage door. Owner was very welcoming and gave us lot’s of useful information. When we left to go home the owner found that we had left our soup maker behind. She rang us before we had driven too far and we were able to return and collect it. Highly recommended. We hope to stop there again next year.

The cottage was clean and comfortable. Edale, with its general store, cafe and pub, was a doable walk away. There are many walks from the farm gate and lots of interesting places to visit locally. A week really isn't enough!

The property was ideal for two of us and it was lovely to be able to walk from the front door to the Pennine Way and the open moors. The pub in Edale is well worth a visit, just a kilometre away - a gentle stroll. The property is well equipped with books to readand local information about the area, particularly walks.

We used the car only once during the week we stayed there to go to Buxton and Bakewell as this was the only rainy day we had. The cottage is comfortable and well equipped for cooking.

  • "The considerate hosts had thought of everything!"

All the kitchenware you need together with comfortable beds and sofas. A peaceful & warm cottage on a real working farm. No traffic noise as the setting is at the end of a lane, but easy to park. A ten to fifteen minute walk to Edale pubs and shop along a private track and public footpath. We didn't use the car for days because many scenic paths can be hiked right from the farm!

The location is perfect, surrounded by beautiful countryside with an easy walk to the village and station. Edale is a hiker's paradise. The cottage itself is beautiful and kitted out to a very high standard. Everything one would need is there, it is well equipped, clean and comfortable. Love the down duvet. It shows the owners are very keen to keep their guests as comfortable as possible. The owners are very friendly and helpful and thank you Sally for the welcome coffee, milk and biscuits.

  • "Previously we had stayed at Hathaway cottage so we knew the location and hosts quite well."

We opted for this cottage because it was larger but had a freezer. It was very comfortable and we had a great week. Everything was clean and well presented. A couple of slightly negative comments though, all of the cooking knives were pretty blunt, normally we take a sharpener but forgot this time. There is no phone reception in Edale but we knew this. The cottage has wifi which has good signal strength but is shared between the farm and 4 cottages in a rural area, I think it's worth pointing out that it's pretty poor even for collecting emails. Frequently no response for many minutes. It's a minor gripe and wouldn't affect us going again, just worth pointing out I feel.

The (very friendly) Owner of the cottage met us when we arrived and showed us all we needed to know, and complimentary tea, coffee and milk was left to get us started. The cottage was always warm, the beds were super comfortable and the shower was roomy and hot. I can highly recommend staying here, especially those visiting the peaks for the beautiful walks as it is well placed for Mam Tor, Kinder Scout and the Pennine Way.

The cottage was cosy, spotless and well organised. All our needs were met, exceeded even. We loved the generous heat, the well organised hallway to dry our wet things, the selection of DVDs, the super comfy beds and pillows and duvets, and the proximity to Edale pubs and cafes. We managed our visit, including days in Manchester, Sheffield, a walk to Castleton and a scramble up in the hills above Edale, all without a car, on Shanks pony or public transport. We'll definitely visit again

  • "The cottage is very comfortable for a couple who share the front bedroom with the King Sized bed."

There was everything we needed, comfortable sofas, large walk in shower, well equipped and beautiful views. For a couple we would certainly recommend it. However, the second bedroom with twin beds, is quite small and has little windows that are so high up that even the tallest person would need to stand on a chair to look out. We could find no way to open them. We did not need the room to sleep in, but if we had, with the door shut it would feel very claustrophobic.

Com so there was a general confusion between them, Sykes and the property owner who did not receive the correct information from me, regarding members of my party and our arrival time. That said, the cottage was clean, comfortable and well equipped. The farm and cottages are in a perfect location for walking and the owners are friendly and helpful. I spent some of the time alone there and felt safe and secure.

We felt looked after with how much thought went into equipping and preparing the cottage, and then looked after practically with help and advice to get us away through the snow! Weather meant we couldn't really make most of the beautiful location, so caverns were useful trip out, as was the short walk to the pubs in Edale.

  • "Sally contacted us a few days before our visit to let us know that we'd be staying in the adjacent Meadow View cottage instead, which was an upgrade in terms of space."

So I don't have experience of the Midfeather Cottage, but I am confident that it and the others in this cluster will all be excellent, judging by the standard of Meadow View and the caring and thorough nature of the owners. The cottage was lovely and clean, well-equipped, comfortable and warm. The location is fantastic, we were able to get the train to nearby Edale station and walk (about fifteen minutes) to the cottage, so no need for a car. From there you're basically at the start of the Pennine way and across the valley are several lovely peaks with plenty of walking routes. The views are superb, we'll be hoping to come back. Only small thing is to note there is a discrepancy between the arrival/check-in time stated on different emails from Sykes. That didn't affect us in the end, but is worth checking if you're on a tight schedule.

The property

A charming semi-detached barn conversion, situated next to the owners’ farmhouse on their working sheep farm, in the small, rural hamlet of Ollerbrook, just 10 minutes' walk from the lovely village of Edale.

Skilfully converted by local craftsmen, this 17th century former working barn is the ideal base for a couple on a romantic retreat or a small family looking to enjoy all that the beautiful Peak District National Park has to offer.

Boasting oak beams and stonework, this welcoming cottage is set over two floors, with an open plan kitchen, dining area and sitting area on the ground floor, whilst on the upper floor are two bedrooms and a shower room.

Outside is a patio area, so relax and sit back with a cold drink on a summer’s evening.

Walks and cycle routes can be found in the area, plus the valley of Edale is waiting to be explored, as is the spa town of Buxton, Chatsworth House and many other places of interest nearby.

A cottage with plenty of character in great surroundings.
