  • "A cozy little cottage with everything you need."

In a quiet location, you can sleep with the bedroom window open. I felt very comfortable, thank you Clare for everything! Only the access road is not nice with all its potholes, puddles and mud. But there is a hose in front of the front door to wash the car.

  • "Lovely welcome from the friendly family who had provided tea, coffee, hot chocolate and milk for our use."

Facilities were sufficient for us; the bed was extremely comfortable. We found some footpaths leading to Uttoxeter where there are plenty of shops and cafes; but it is quite a distance to walk. We don't normally do a lot of driving on our holidays so we found this cottage rather distant from Peak District beauty spots; the surrounding countryside is very flat and less interesting for our taste so we had more driving to do. I realise that holiday rental costs have skyrocketed in 2021 but I didn't feel we got enough for the money. For example the outside seating area for Mill Wheel is very small, shady and right next to the car. We enjoyed the holiday.

  • "Directions to the property were only given from the west, directions from derby would have been helpful."

also Grove lane to the farm is signposted to Somersal Herbert, it would be helpful to others to mention that.

About the location

DOVERIDGE

Uttoxeter 3 miles; Ashbourne 12 miles.

The pretty little village of Doveridge lies within easy reach of the Peak District National Park. Doveridge, mentioned in the Domesday Book is nestled amongst beautiful countryside, offering great walking and cycling paths and trails. The village has a small shop/Post Office with a coffee shop. St Cuthbert’s Church dates from before the 13th century and boasts a 1000 year old yew tree which is supported on crutches and under which Robin Hood and Maid Marion were rumoured to have wed. Near the church flows the River Dove with its Victorian suspension footbridge. The village is situated just three miles from the bustling Staffordshire town of Uttoxeter with its larger array of amenities and racecourse. The NT Sudbury Hall and the Museum of Childhood is very close by and offers a fascinating insight into days gone by. The market town of Ashbourne is within driving distance with its eccentric street plan, narrow cobbled alleys and quaint coaching inns and is something of a haven for antique hunters, boasting superb shops, as well as a variety of good pubs and restaurants. The Dove and Manifold Valleys and many other National Trust properties and places of interest are also nearby, and both Carsington Water and Alton Towers are within a 20 minute drive, making this a wonderful location for relaxation and enjoyment all year round.
