"We had a great week at Sycamore cottage."
The house is cosy, well equipped and in a great location for exploring the Peak District. I would happily stay there again.

"Well thank you Maveen, so friendly."
... a lovely homely, cosy cottage and we could so easily move in and become your new neighbours. A fantastic garden and pond, so beautiful. Everything we needed and more, lovely and warm, plenty of hot water... certainly a property to return to. Nothing to complain about..WiFi not an issue, spacious parking, gate wasn't a problem for us, you park right next to your accommodation so unloading/loading is easy. Great peaceful base for walking in the Peak and swimming at Hathersage pool. Good pub, Bulls Head close by if you don't wish to cook.. however facilities in cottage are excellent for self catering. Thank you for a lovely holiday.. best regards to you.

"Cottage was ideally placed to visit the towns and villages of the area, with a number of good walks on the doorstep."
The cottage was very spacious for 2 people and was kept very warm and cozy. With being in a small village the internet dropped a couple of times, but Maveen showed is how to reset it and it was up and running in a few minutes. There is a nice pub in the village, but no shops , however, there is a good Spar shop in Calver just over 3 miles away. Maveen was very helpful and gave us tips about the area. I would be happy to reccommend this cottage.

"Sycamore Cottage is in a great location."
We found it thoughtfully equipped, very clean and with practical, comfortable, traditional country furnishings in keeping with the character and age of the property. We visited during a sudden cold spell but the central heating was efficient and we had no problems with condensation. The wi-fi wasn’t working when we arrived but this was instantly rectified by rebooting the modem in the double bedroom after which it was fine all week. The gates weren’t an issue - quite a common feature in country properties in our experience. Maveen is a friendly, welcoming, non-intrusive host. We would definitely stay at the cottage again if revisiting the area.
-
"A great base for discovering the Peaks for a weeks hiking."
3 things to highlight on listing would be , you have to close & open a large gate every time you drive in or out on a concealed entry , your welcome dog can’t poo in the garden , so you have to dress & walk around the village for dogs toilet needs of a early morning & Before you go to bed & lastly the weather was warm for our week mostly but of an evening the cottage was cold & we had no control to turn the central heating on , only a electric fan heat that wasn’t great . I wouldn’t return to the property , but would say Maveen was a great host & very welcoming.

"Very comfortable, well equipped, excellently situated for exploring the Peaks."
Foolow itself is a pretty little village - no shops, but a very good pub. We'd definitely stay here again.

"Very comfortable cottage."
Showers were good. Kitchen equipment was more than adequate. We had a very enjoyable

"Oh dear. Not quite what we expected."
Appreciate that Sycamore Cottage is an old building and, although looked cosy, it was very 'dated' and very dowdy. The old fashioned, unmatching furniture needed updating, as did the dull decoration. Kitchen area was bright but oh so small. The downstairs shower/toilet facilities were abysmal and seemed to be pieced together by odd bits of wood. No heating, so very cold when leaving the shower. Plenty of cobwebs around in the toilet area. Very comfortable beds. The whole cottage smelled musty and a lot of condensation formed in the bedrooms and downstairs shower. Such a pity as the cottage sits in a lovely little village.

"The owner was very nice and the cottage was comfortable and pleasant to stay in"
-
"The wifi was a non-starter, partly due to the unreliable signal in the area but also there seemed to be something intermittent in the house as well."
It should be labelled intermittent in the write up. We cooked all our evening meals and there were odd things missing in the utensils. The stairs were very steep for me and our dog there should be a warning as well. However the whole cottage was comfortable and very clean and the owner was on hand for questions where necessary. Overall we had a delightful stay.

"We were cosy."
Quiet. Quite happy - just what we wanted.

"Pretty little cottage ideal for walkers without dogs."
To many notes about shut windows when going out, shut gate, don’t let your dog use the garden for toilet use the green in the village, put the heater on for hot water for 15 minutes only. Now for the good stuff the beds are terrible double is to soft and full of lumps the two twin beds are so hard more comfortable on the floor. You have no control of the heating it is controlled by the owner next door it comes on at 8.30am then goes off for the rest of the day and comes back on at 4.30pm. So in between these times it get very cold left after 2days paid for 7 as I ended up with a very bad cold. The Wi-Fi is nonexistent got left a message by owner you might get a signal if you went in the porch or hold your phone up in the air in the corner of the bedroom what a joke you cannot get a signal anywhere. Would not recommend this place.
"Hi Sylvia, thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. I feel like there have been a number of misunderstandings that could have been rectified if you spoke to me or Sykes while you were in the property. The notes about the windows and the gate are purely for the safety of the property and your belongings (sometimes people need reminders). The note about the immersion heater explained that it only takes 15 minutes for the water to gt hot after switching it on. The green area is just at the bottom of my drive and we ask that people not to allow their pets to use the garden to ensure that it is a tidy and presentable space for all guests. The heating is on a timer and comes on at 7 a.m. and goes off at 10 a.m, but there is an electric fire in the living room in case you get a bit chilly. The WiFi in the property has only recently been upgraded, so we're sorry to hear if you struggled with it, but the note was referring to mobile phone signal as there isn't very good reception for that in the property. We're sorry to hear that you left the property early and that you don't feel it was for you." Property Owner

"We can highly recommend Sycamore cottage, it's quiet, cosy and warm with a wonderful garden."
The owner lives on site and is a great host. Foolow is a lovely village with lots of walks from the door or just a short distance away. The village pub serves very good food; it also has a small supply of bread and cakes from Bakewell Bakery available to purchase. There's no shop in Foolow but there's a well stocked Spar a couple of miles away in Calver.

"We had a lovely time at this delightful cottage in the very pretty village of Foolow."
The cottage was cosy and very well equipped and there was a lovely seating area near a pretty fish pond. The cottage is very well situated for touring the dales. We would love to return one day.

"Really enjoyed our time at Sycamore Cottage."
The Cottage was extremely clean, well laid out and a nice place to be. The position of the Cottage Is excellent, close to beautiful scenery and places of interest. The village of Foolow is very nice and would thoroughly recommend a visit to the local pub, The Bulls Head, great for food and beer. All in all a great holiday was had by all.
-
"An excellent property with everything that we needed"
-
"We had a very enjoyable and relaxing week."
Sycamore Cottage is cosy, comfortable and welcoming, and the garden in particular is a delight. Maveen the owner lives next door if you need her, but totally respects guests' privacy. The cottage was immaculately clean. It is well placed for walks and visits. The advice to reverse into the drive is sound - thanks to the owner for that. I would add that having a second person watching for traffic on the pavement opposite really helped! The only very minor inconvenience for us was the lack of a freezer. (We were aware of this in advance and planned accordingly). There is excellent food shopping at Buxton (Waitrose, Aldi and Morrisons, all within a short distance). A special recommendation for the Proper Pasty shop in Bakewell - really excellent coffee and pastries!
-
"Lovely comfortable cottage in the heart of the dales, I would thoroughly recommend it and would stay again."
The owner was a lovely friendly lady (we saw her occasionally as she lived next door).
-
"I had not picked up from the information that there is no washing machine, nor even a wash line in this property."
For one week that would be acceptable, but for two weeks I think this needs to be highlighted to clients.
-
"Sycamore cottage is a very comfortable base for exploring the northern part of the Peak District and the Hope Valley."
Foolow is a charming hamlet with a very good pub a few minutes walk from the cottage. There is so much to do in the area…a week is not enough!
-

"I have just returned from a week's stay at Sycamore Cottage in Foolow."
I found the property to be lovely and clean and it had everything that we required for our stay. The garden is beautiful. The owner Maureen lives in the cottage next door and is on hand to give any advice if required. I will certainly return to this cottage. Foolow is also lovely and the staff at the Bull's Head Pub are very friendly and accommodating

"Lovely holiday cottage in a beautiful Peak District village."
Thank you for a lovely stay and for all of the little touches that made our stay even better. It was so nice to be able to leave the cottage and go straight into the countryside with the rolling hills and lambs. Very clean and well-looked-after and we hope to come back.
-
"Had a lovely time at Cottage, owner very friendly had use of garden and as the weather was wonderful we did use it."
...would go back again.
-
"The landlady was very helpful."
The property was very snug with 4 adults. A nice garden area available. The location is excellent, we walked or cycled from the door every day and there is an abundance of places of interest a short drive away. The village pub does a special pie and pint deal on top of an already good choice of food. Pubs at Bretton (1m walking distance but up a long steep hill) and Eyam (2m, flat) are also recommended.
-
"This is a lovely semi detached cosy cottage in the Peak District."
The little village is full of stone built cottages and they are vert atmospheric. It is very comfortable with all you need to enjoy a stay in the Peak District. We did not cook meals as we wanted to enjoy the lovely cuisine of the area. There was cooking facilities and cookware if needed. The owner was welcoming but not intrusive and we enjoyed her lovely garden and outside pots. I would recommend this cottage to anyone wanting a short break in a quiet village. The village is just off a main road and has very good pub for meals. We dined there for two nights as the food and landlady were so good.
-
"Nice little cottage close to main attractions in Peak District."
Very pleasant stay despite the weather! Enough room for 4 adults with stairs that you would expect in an old cottage. 81 year old had no problems with them.
-
"The cottage was lovely - the garden too."
It is in an excellent location; so peaceful. We enjoyed the beautiful countryside and wildlife. Wi-fi rather slow.
-

"A very nice and cosy cottage in a very nice village."
Plenty of walks from the door and a very useful guide with the local information in the cottage. We did not use the car all week. The local pub , 2 minutes walk, is very friendly, dog friendly and good food.
-
"The cottage was a lovely cosy place to relax."
Everything was clean and comfortable and the owner made herself available if needed, and was friendly and welcoming. Foolow is a very convenient place to stay as all our favourite walks are a short drive away and there are plenty of local options for dog walking. The Bulls Head Inn is a convenient watering hole as it is a short walk across the green and they serve very nice food and have a good vegetarian menu. We also rated the Moon Inn in nearby Stony Middleton very highly and they are open all day.
-
"The cottage was clean and comfortable."
Which is nice after long walks in the peaks
-
"Sycamore cottage is cozy, with a small kitchen (no room for dishwasher) but adequate equipment to cook in the cottage."
Upstairs bedrooms are small, bed is comfy. Electric shower has good flow and fittings are modern. Garden is lovely, as described on the website not suitable to let dogs out unattended (not completely enclosed and a deep fishpond). It's located in a pretty village and several public footpaths are within a few minutes walk. Enjoyed our week here.
-
"Most enjoyable , peaceful , pity the weather didn’t play along , but still got out and about , Derbyshire a most scenic county , maybe more next year !"
-
"The owner of the cottage, who lives next door, was very welcoming and happy to help."
We loved the cottage and the garden. The village is very quiet, so our time spent at the cottage was very relaxing. We are familiar with the area, but always find something new whenever we visit.
-
"Sycamore Cottage is located in an ideal location for access to interesting walks from the cottage."
Various tourist sites are within easy driving distance and good roads. To cap the location, it is close to a wonderful pub, the Bulls Head, which serves good and generously priced meals.
-
"This is our second time in this cottage and everything was just as good!"
It is in a lovely little village with a great pub (The Bull) and is cosy and comfortable with everything you need. The location is good for all interests, whether walking, towns or historical places with lovely views all round. The owner, Maveen, is very warm and helpful - nothing is too much trouble!

Perfectly situated for touring The Peak District, it also has lovely walks from the front door, there are plenty of books and guides in the cottage for local walks for all abilities. "Warmly welcomed by Maveen."
The cottage was cosy and well equipped. Having an extra shower and toilet downstairs was a real bonus. The garden was an absolute delight and it was so relaxing to sit watching the fish in the immaculately kept pond. The Bull's Head pub was just a very short walk away being visited on several enjoyable occasions. A great place to stay particularly if you enjoy walking.

-
"The cottage was very comfortable and during a cold spell very warm and cosy."
. Cottage owner was very friendly and helpful at all times. Would book the cottage again
-
"Cottage was much smaller than it appeared in phopentographs."
The pictures had been stretched. Note the oval millstone outside the Glass porch etc. Oven did not work. Owners response? "It worked last week". Owner entered accommodation while we were away. When questioned about it there was a fair bit of hesitation before admitting she had been through the property to close an upstairs window. We had purposely left the window o a crack to try dry out condensation which nightly left a pool of water on the window sill. Very old property which has been rented out for over forty years . Very small for four people. Both bedrooms up a steep flight of stairs. All in all an unpleasant experience. No washing machine or use thereof. The list goes on.
