Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, wish we had booked for longer. Only thing it lacked was a seperate recycle bin. Otherwise perfect

Hi. The recycle bins are all in the outhouse. Don’t worry though. I sorted through all the waste to make sure all the recycling was taken care of. Property Owner

A comfortable cottage although the steps up and down to the Garden would cause problems for those with mobility issues even when dry I didn't feel too safe using the steps, while the Kitchen hob was similar to ours the lack of instructions for the oven made it a "hit and miss" trial until we got the right settings, Prefered to use the Crispin Pub for any meals we had out even though it was a tad pricy, over all I would give the cottage a 7/10 rating

Thanks for your feedback. The hob has full instruction in the Guest information pack, really sorry you must have missed it. Thanks for staying with us, we hope to see you again. Property Owner

  • "We had a good stay at Gritstone Cottage - it is well situated for touring the Peak District and Pub meals."

A couple of issues however - (1) the sofa in the lounge area was broken on our arrival - the seating is uncomfortable. (2) The seating area outside - where you should be able to sit out for a relaxing coffee/tea etc - is not at all good. The steps leading to that area are quite unsafe. Apart from that - as I said - we had a good time at the cottage. Trevor & Wendy Daykin

We have thoroughly inspected the sofa and not been able to locate where it was ‘broken’. We have returning guests who have checked in advance that we still have the same furniture because of the comfort, so a little confused about the uncomfortable comment. Glad you had a good time though Property Owner

Reed diffusers in lounge were both empty, all the furniture and decor looked worn and tired, cottage could do with an update. Didn't feel like there had been a lot of care put in to it.

We are sorry to see your feedback as we personally take great care over the upkeep and cleanliness of the cottage. As we accept dogs there can be occasion beyond our control if it needs more airing than time allows between bookings. We’ve taken on board your comments and are taking steps to ensure that the property is updated appropriately as we value all our guests Property Owner

The two pubs in the village excellent, we preferred the Crispen but both serve good a good choice of pub food. If you can book in advance try the Packhorse Inn approx 3/4 mile from the cottage. The cottage has everything you would need, we had the wood burner on most days, nice on a cold wet evening. Slept really well, no noise at all from the road. Walks from the door excellent.

  • "My only comment would be that the garden and its access is quite difficult; our dog did go up each morning, but the steps are steep and a bit slippery in the wet; given the time of year we did not use the space for meals or drinks, so it was fine, but in the summer it should be made a bit clearer."

Otherwise, the cottage is beautiful, cosy, clean and has everything you need and is situated in a delightful, gorgeous Derbyshire village. For dog owners, I would mention the possibility of using a nearby field at the other end of the village where they can run free provided there are no sheep or cattle in the field. I would recommend Gritstone Cottage highly.

Beds are very comfortable, everything you need in the kitchen, however, maybe a wok could be considered and also a shower mat for the upstairs bathroom. Other than that we had a wonderful week in this beautiful cottage.

Thank you for your feedback, i'll look into picking up a wok, great idea. I think the bath mat was an oversight from our cleaner that week, apologies Property Owner

  • "Not really suitable for 4 adults."

Was a nuisance having to move the over-sized 3 piece suite to either set up the table or access the ground floor toilet. The photos of the property are shall we say very complimentary. Hardly any facilities for clothing storage in bedroom 2, where bunk beds would have been more appropriate, to avoid having to shuffle sideways to negotiate the space between beds. The garden was at a rather steep incline - again not apparent from the photos.

Really sorry the property didnt suit your requirements but we have had nothing but wonderful feedback from our other guests. Thankyou for your feedback all the same. Property Owner

Great Longstone has two good pubs, with another within easy walking distance, and it has a convenient shop. The cottage is well equipped and has a convenient lockable store, handy if you are taking bicycles. The only things to flag up are that the garden is located up a steep set of uneven steps (wasn't a problem for us), and there is no dishwasher (again, not a problem for us). • "We had a lovely week at Gritstone Cottage."

Comfortable, well equipped cottage in a lovely location . Roadside parking did not cause any problems, always got a space in front of cottage. Garden is secure for your dog but the steps leading to it are quite steep. The two pubs nearby are very welcoming with a good selection of food, both equally as nice and dog friendly. Great places to visit nearby. The only small negative was that there wasn’t anywhere nearby to let our dog off the lead, however we eventually discovered the Monsal Trail and would park at Hassop station (pay and display ) - there’s a lovely shop/cafe/wc there. I would advise that you book a table to eat in the pubs, particularly at the weekend as they do get quite busy. We would visit this cottage again as we didn’t get to see as much as we liked due to me breaking my ankle the day before arriving at cottage - surgical boot and crutches hampered us somewhat but we made the most of our time here.

The cottage itself is situated in a beautiful quiet village and very close to Bakewell, Chatsworth and of course the Monsal trail. The scenery in the area is truly beautiful, the location of the cottage was perfect. The lounge was very comfortable and the log burner fantastic for chilly evenings. We have stayed in cottages before with log burners and in our experience we have always had a few logs to start with to light the fire, there were no logs except the ones we had to buy. Everything we needed in the kitchen, but perhaps a bigger frying pan would be an idea as with 4 people staying the pan seemed quite small. Great to have a shower room downstairs and of course another bathroom upstairs, this worked very well for us. All in all, a lovely cottage, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you.
