  • "I am sure you will snigger, grimace whatever when I tell you that I believe the Old Chapel is haunted."

Not in too scary a way but nevertheless I could 'feel' it. I didn't leave any comment to this effect in the visitor's book as I didn't want to scare the incoming visitors, but it was enough to make us leave a day early. ( for information my grandmother was a spiritualist who conducted seances so there is something a bit ' fey' about me....honest !! )

It had everything we could possibly needed and was lovely & cosy. Perfect location for us to get out and about every day and also a nice starting point for us to go for a walk. If we are in the area again it is somewhere we would happily return to & have already recommended it to family & friends.

  • "We had the most wonderful time at The Old Chapel."

It’s such a fabulous property, and is finished to an incredibly high standard. Every aspect of the place has really been thought through, and there has been no expense spared. The beds are AMAZINGLY comfortable! Our holiday was spent mostly in the property and grounds, having a really great and relaxed first week of the school holiday together as a family. However, it is positioned perfectly to explore everything that the area has to offer. We will definitely return to stay here again. Thanks so much Jayne and Martin x

  • "For us the lack of private space and the close proximity of the owners property was an issue and affected our holiday ."

We did not feel the pictures accurately reflected just how close the owners are and that the ‘seating area’ is in full view of the owners . The Chapel itself is lovely and the welcome hamper was a kind gesture but our holiday was affected by our feelings of being overlooked at all times . The listing does say the Chapel is on the same plot as the owners but we feel Much more clarity is needed .

Hi kerry We are sorry to hear that you felt that the close proximity of the chapel to the owners property was an issue. We are going to update the photo's on the property listing to give more clarity on the proximity of the Old Chapel to the owner's property. We are glad to hear that you had a good stay with us bar the proximity to the owners property we hope to see you again. kind regards chapel team Property Owner

Hosts could not have done more to welcome us (there was even a lovely welcome pack that was most unexpected but so gratefully appreciated). A wonderful area, stunning scenery and very friendly locals. Be careful of the ‘guard’ dogs though. You’ll be greeted, loved, wagged at and want to borrow them until you return …and return you will. We cannot recommend this place highly enough Thank you Jayne, Martin and pooches

  • "We were exceedly pleased with the accommodation and the welcome from the owners."

Despite The Chapel being next to a road the village was so peaceful we weren't disturbed at all. This location proved to be a perfect location for exploring the Peak District. Matlock is quite a busy hub, but we found a lovey scenic drive avoiding Matlock to get to Chatsworth. We also went to Chatsworth farm shop twice so this proved handy. We found The Chapel very well equipped and comfortable. Although if you like a firm pillow I would take your own. We barely saw the owners who lived the other side of the plot, and didn't see this as a problem. We would gladly stay again.

  • "Wonderful stay."

The property had everything we needed and more. The owners were around if we needed them but not intrusive. The extra thoughtful touches of cake, wine and fresh flowers were wonderful. The property was well stocked with all we needed and spotlessly clean throughout. Stunning area with great views. The only slight downside was that the area of garden to use, while well maintained and pleasant is very much in full view of the owners property, there is nothing they could do about that but it might be an issue for some. Loved this property, so peaceful.

Owner friendly & welcoming, with flowers, milk and cake kindly left for us. Beautiful, peaceful location within reach of a range of lovely walks and places to visit. The only minor criticism we had was that the photo doesn't show that the owner's house is just the other side of the drive, so there is a lack of privacy.

  • "This was a great cottage, or rather, a very grand chapel conversion."

The setting was quiet with great views and having the owners living next door meant they could introduce us to the property and were very friendly and helpful. They even let our kids play with their dogs and in their back garden on the swings and slide. The property is immaculate with traditional features amongst modern facilities. The pictures don't convey the space the place has yet it still manages to feel cosy. The location is perfect for visiting people in Derbyshire or sightseeing and walking in the peaks, especially as you can skip over the hills to Chatsworth or Bakewell and avoid the queues on the usual routes in.

  • "The photos of the cottage do not show how near the property is to the owners or how the far side of the property is directly on the road."

This didn't worry us at all as the owners were friendly without being intrusive but some may prefer to be more isolated. The master bedroom, though very cosy and well fitted, was smaller than anticipated and might not suit a very tall or larger person. However these are minor details and overall we were extremely happy with the layout, facilities and general warmth of the chapel conversion. There was plenty to do on the odd day we chose to remain inside which was good. We will definitely book the same cottage for a return visit as it is perfect for visiting family. The two dogs were adorable and very friendly!

Thank you for your feedback. We have added that the property is on the grounds of the owners property. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at The Old Chapel and would love to have you back! Property Owner
