  • "Whilst the ‘basic’ cleanliness was met ie fresh beds clean sink and toilet, it would have benefitted from a good dust as there were cobwebs everywhere, I tried to hoover them myself but the hoover was giving off an awful smell which stunk out the property."

Also a scrub on the kitchen floor needed. It would be helpful in the description to say that the garden is not secure for dogs/ young children. The style of property was lovely with some very sweet features such as fireplaces in downstairs bedrooms. The fireplace in living room said in description that initial fuel would be provided, however on arrival there was a sign saying it was ornamental and not to use. Location good. Kitchen utensils/ crockery/ pans/ glasses etc well stocked. Carpets could do with replacing (especially upstairs). Both bathrooms showers had good water pressure. Garden did not look like picture online (was not well kept). Lots of pros and cons to this property. I would stay again but not for the price it is advertised at as I feel the upkeep and cleanliness should be more on point to justify the price.

  • "This property has positives and negatives."

Kitchen and downstairs bedrooms are good the upstairs bedroom has very limited headroom and the carpet and decor need replacing / redoing as they are stained and dirty. There are other maintenance items that need completing as well around the property - for the price being charged it should be better maintained and there are better properties available. It should be noted that the property is right next to the road so traffic noise is a bit of an issue especially if in upstairs bedroom.

About the location

CALVER

Baslow 1.5 miles; Eyam 2 miles; Bakewell 5 miles.

The delightful, traditional village of Calver lies in the shadow of Froggatt Edge and Curbar Gap, in the heart of the Peak District National Park. A wonderfully traditional village with a Post Office and a country pub serving good food, Calver is close to the National Trust-owned Longshaw Estate, and less than five miles from Chatsworth House - home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. As well as a traditional pub and Post Office, the pretty village of Calver has a cafe, petrol station, small supermarket selling local produce, a craft shop and a gallery, and is a wonderful base for walks, climbing and mountain biking. The village of Baslow with shops, pubs and restaurants is only a mile and a half away, and a further range of amenities can be found in the market town of Bakewell, the capital of the Peak District and home to the famous Bakewell pudding. Haddon Hall is close by, as is the historic village of Eyam with its selection of pubs, cafes and a craft centre, meaning a day out in the parish of Curbar can be enjoyed by all. Castleton, the home of the Blue John and Speedwell caverns, is 8.5 miles away and offers boat tours through underground caves. Hathersage, 2.7 miles away, is where you can find the Hathersage open-air swimming pool, which must be booked in advance, and, in the church yard, the grave of the legendary 'Little John'.
