"We had a great holiday for 2 weeks at this cottage."
Fantastic location for walking from the property. We did 4 x 12 mile walks without getting in the car. Hathersage is lovely with great cafes & pub. The cottage is warm and comfortable with plenty of space. It is also very quiet and private from the farm house. The cottage is not overlooked by anyone.

"Lovely property and what a view."
Nice sized rooms thoughout, comfortable beds and everything we needed. Clare was there to greet and answer all questions having already phoned in advance to ask how we wanted the bedrooms arranged. Definitely recommended.
Thank you Chris and family for coming to stay, leaving such great feedback. It was lovely to meet you all and pleased you loved our spot in the Derbyshire Peak District as much as we do. Please let us know if you want to return. We’d be more than happy to have you back. Best wishes Claire, Andrew and lots more lambs than we had a few weeks ago! Property Owner

"A wonderful host for a lovely spacious cottage in a great location."
Two tips for guests : better not to bring your low slung car ; reverse into the parking. You will be able to see when you go out at night and not need to be towed out of the mess by father and son the next day which they did most graciously for me! Thoroughly recommend the location, the accomodation and the lovely family .
Thank you for your very kind review. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and took full advantage of our rescue service Property Owner

"Claire and Andrew Bramall Are fantastic hosts."
Broadhay is a lovely home to stay in, Claire and Andrew have got leaflets with local things to do and so people can enjoy their time away. Amazing views all around the home. we did loads of lovely walks and explored the area. Bed are comfortable, very clean and warm home.
We are so pleased you enjoyed your holiday with us and found your ‘home away from home’ warm and comfortable- it’s what we would want when we are away! There’s so much to do here in the Peaks, so we would welcome you back anytime to explore further. Many thanks for your wonderful review Claire and Andrew Bramall Property Owner

"Lovely property, very clean, well equipped kitchen and lots of space for us all at Christmas."
Owners very friendly and welcoming. Directions very clear and we found it no trouble. Found the path immediately in front of the house a bit slippery- wet and moss and it might benefit from a good clean but this is a country cottage on a farm in winter so we were prepared.

"Really lovely holiday cottage in a beautiful part of the country."
An excellent centre from which to visit the wonderful countryside of the Peak District with so many walks and fascinating places to choose from. Also very convenient for visiting Sheffield. Very comfortable, well cared for cottage to come back to each evening. There was no problem driving down the track to the property, our Ford Focus managed it fine.
Thank you Catherine and family for your kind feedback. We are so pleased you enjoyed your time at Broadhay and found so much to do in the area which is home to us. We would love to welcome you back to explore further! Property Owner

"The setting was lovely, the cottage was very clean However the night we arrived was very bad weather and the instruction from Sykes was poor even though I called prior to booking the cottage to ask how far from Hathersage."
The owner did give instructions but not a very clear black and white post in the dark and the road was awful we had to leave our car at the Plough Pub luckily our son was with us and we used his car to gain access to the cottage this must be highlighted how steep and far the road is to get to the cottage, we are from the country so are aware how the natural setting can be a hinder access. Once we did arrive at the cottage no clear indication of how to get to the front door as two gates to get there which I totally understand as sheep surround the cottage. The cottage was cold on arrival and was most of the time as we went out all day it appeared the heating came on during the day but noted the thermostat were low on the radiators. Due to our son leaving on the Saturday we chose to leave also making our stay short as we would of had to walk to the car up the track with our luggage which is about a mile away. We were disappointed and feel this was not worth the money on reflection from previous stays that are not that far away from this cottage.
Sykes cottages called twice prior to your arrival regarding the distance from Broadhay to Bank House which we provided. Access to Broadhay is clearly stated in the description of the property and was also indicated in our direct phone call to yourselves as well as the detailed email directions we sent. The black and white racing pole is clearly visible as it is reflective and positioned at the very top of the farm track at the roadside. The detailed images on Sykes website as well as indicated again in our direct conversation, clearly state the access to the cottage, as we did discuss parking ‘behind the five bar gate’. On my arrival home I came across to you immediately holding open the gate for you to park with the only access to the property being the garden gate immediately in front. We also asked about vehicles and at no point did you mention one vehicle was a Porsche! We also stated that all radiators were on thermostats which could be easily turned up and should there be a problem then let us know. The heating is on constant for the arrival day and then timed but at no point during your stay was contact made. I’m sorry you were cold but this could easily have been remedied. The distance from the cottage to The Plough is just under 1/3 mile and we would never have let you walk up the lane with luggage under any circumstances but sadly you had very limited communication with us throughout your stay and upon your early departure. All in all, I can only apologise that you didn’t enjoy Broadhay. The listing is extremely accurate regarding the property, it’s location and access, and we do provide telephone and email contact details should problems arise not to mention details in the property itself. "This was the most wonderful and delightful home base to explore the region."
The house had everything we needed, plus more. It ws very clean, comfortable and the setting is ideal. we absolutely loved our stay and can not recommend it more strongly to anyone who comes across this listing. It is absolutely perfect. Thanks you to our hosts.

"Great cottage, great location, great stay, thanks."
A fire in the living room would be a great addition as would a bathroom upstairs.

"Our family was looking for a place we could be together in beautiful surroundings that would allow 5 adults to be together in lovely, comfortable shared and individual spaces under one roof."
Broadhay Farm gave us just that and its location gave us easy access to all that the Peak District National Park had to offer. Footpaths right next to the farm gave us options for lovely walks just beyond our front door. The family owners couldn't have been more welcoming and we especially enjoyed the option for everyone in our party to try our hand at clay pigeon shooting. Instruction was superb for all us novices. We'll definitely be recommending this accomodation to friends and family
Thank you Kathleen for your fabulous review! We are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and appreciated the surroundings we call home. We look forward to seeing you again. Property Owner

"Lovely cottage."
Really cosy and clean. The rooms are all big. Everything we needed for a weekend in the Peak District.

"A really lovely, spacious cottage in nestling in the beautiful Hope Valley."
A splendid area for walking both locally and further afield when exploring the glorious Peak District. Wonderful!
-
"Lovely , well equipped cottage in a superb location."
It’s really quiet & peaceful, yet only a few minutes drive from some excellent walking .

"My wife and I were very surprised and disappointed to be charged double the booking fee for booking a 2 week stay."
How do Sykes justify that? We also noticed that the rental fees for next year have been hiked up by around 20% - clearly cashing in on the need for staycations due to the COVID outbreak. We will not be booking with Sykes ever again. They are clearly only interested in making money and not the customer.
Thank you for your feedback. It is disappointing to see that your comments are all about ourselves at Sykes and nothing on the lovely property you stayed in and the hospitality you enjoyed. You have spoken with Sykes and was advised that that this is our normal business practice in relation to the rental and that the rental increases with demand. Demand has just been higher this year than in previous years. We are pleased to see you accepted the refund on the booking fee Property Owner

"Spaciousness and comfort of cottage with stylish decor and views from all windows."
Peaceful and convenient location for local places to visit. Friendliness of owner on arrival and helpfulness when problem arose with TV/DVD, quickly attended to. Fun of watching lambs leaping around in field right in front of patio. Really enjoyed our stay, 3 generations from grandparents to 5 and 7 year olds, cottage ideal for all of us.

"Broadhay is in a beautiful location that is also perfect for day’s out Mam Tor, Eyam, Bakewell etc."
Thank you, Clare, for your hospitality, Broadhay has been a wonderful welcome back after a day exploring, so clean, cosy & comfortable. Won’t hesitate to return or recommend.

"Lovely rural landscape with a nice feeling of isolation but close enough to the local village for supplies etc."
A comfortable and clean house. Lots of room for the family. Claire and Andrew were very friendly in making sure everything was to our satisfaction

"We booked as 2 couples in their 70's, wanting 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and single beds for 1 couple."
Broadhay met criteria. Got to destination after 9 hour journey from Devon having suffered much delay from motorway accidents and heavy traffic, so very tired. Kept owners updated of ETA via text messages during journey. On arrival, owner did not say "Welcome to Peak District - hope you enjoy your holiday", but rather seemed put out that we were so late (met us even though had in earlier phone conversation said she would unlock house and leave key in door). We were also harangued with Sykes Rental Contract and "Broadhay Rules" - first things in the house book (which contained contact details for doctors, dentists, hospitals, but no info on pubs, restaurants, shops or walks). Also, told we must empty bins and leave house in same state as found. Owner said she had made up 2 bedrooms as we had requested, ie 1 double and 1 twin, but we shouldn't use the 3rd bedroom as it had been prepared for the party following us. We said people have different needs - maybe a partner snores or is a light sleeper, etc. She would not listen and even said she would have removed the bedding entirely than let us use the 3rd bedroom if we had a need. 2nd couple arrived Monday and spent a bad first night as husband coughing and wheezing when lying down. Next night wife used 3rd bedroom, but removed all the bedding except the bottom sheet and re-used pillow and duvet from her twin bed. We need to know for future if owners can make such demands (not use a bedroom). We paid for a 3 bedroomed property. This woman very much needs to improve the way she talks to her paying guests. Our holiday was spoilt before it began.

"We had a wonderful 3-week stay at Broadhay Farm!"
Andrew & Claire were wonderful hosts. They were available and friendly but not intrusive. The house was as described and worked very well for my husband and I and our four children. The house was comfortably furnished and we had everything we needed to cook several meals during our stay. Our kids loved watching the sheep and being able to take several walks throughout the area. This property is away from it all yet close to everything at the same time. We highly recommend this property and hope to make a return visit at some point in the future!

"Had a wonderful week at idyllic Broadhay surrounded by spring lambing activities."
The house was surprisingly spacious, and perfectly presented. We received a lovely welcome on arrival and made to feel completely at home! Broadhay is a short walk via the farm track and public footpaths into the village of Hathersage (small grocery stores, post office, pubs, gas station, outdoor activity stores, and the David Mellor design centre). Hathersage, itself, is very central to a wonderful and fascinating area of the Peak District: yours to discover!

"Set in such a beautiful location, idyllic and very pretty countryside."
Gorgeous views from every window. The cottage is cosy and very spacious, as 6 adults in our party. Very comfortable beds and full facilities. Very enjoyable stay.
-
"Host was very welcoming and the accommodation and location were really great."
Would revisit for a tranquil weekend.
-
"A really friendly welcome off claire ."
The cottage was lovely and warm with all the facilities needed and big spacious rooms in a nice quite location. And very handy for Hathersage with it's shops and places to eat.
-
"A wonderful cosy cottage with exceptionally friendly owners."
Everything clean, tidy and with enough little extras to make the stay extra enjoyable. The boot room at the back helped for storage of muddy wellies, and the downstairs shower was lovely. Very well located for good walks or short drives to nearby towns. The farm track is steep but was perfectly manageable in our ‘normal’ family cars. It was delightful to be woken by a cockerel crowing and to have the view of grazing sheep during breakfast. Very highly recommended.
-
"The house is warm, comfortable and well equipped."
It is in a great location. The hosts were welcoming and helpful. We would definetly hope to stay there again.
-
"Cottage is in lovely isolated location down a rough track which was great for us but might be an issue for some cars!"
-
"We travelled as a group of friends for a weekend break."
We were treated to fabulous weather which enhanced our time away. The cottage was very comfortable with good facilities. We were greeted by Andrew and shown around the cottage, Claire popped round to make sure all was OK later. We enjoyed being surrounded by the countryside and watching the sheep with their lambs, especially the breakfast and tea rush! There were at least 6 cockerels but these did not disturb all of us! Some of us enjoyed local walks (but storm Hector had disturbed the stepping stones so we had to paddle across the river!) in the lovely countryside while others met us in Hathersage for a much needed drink. A lovely place to wind down.

"Fab location, brilliant host and wonderful cottage."
-
"Everything was fine, as expected in a Sykes Cottage."
The host family, who live in the nearby farm house, were very helpful and friendly, especially in their advice on local weather and it's implications for travel.
-
"This is a lovely cottage set in a picturesque landscape combining a traditional working farm with the peaks in the distance."
A short walk from the Derwent river and a short drive from fantastic walks and local pubs.
-
"You need to need to emphasise the steepness and roughness of the approach track."
-
"Have had a lovely Birthday weekend away in Derbyshire largely due to picking Broadhay to stay at."
The farmhouse was fabulous, and I have to agree with other reviewers in that the beds are indeed 'extremely' comfy and the website photos do not capture the size of the property! It is much bigger in reality so felt very special. There is more than enough room and plenty of storage/cupboard space if you like to fully unpack. There are lots of lovely touches/decor and the location is stunning and peaceful. Would love to return in the summer months and experience Claire's hospitality again. If we were to be picky the steep unmade track could be a consideration to some and maybe a few coat hooks wouldn't go a miss (we may have missed them having fun!), and maybe on the back of the bathroom door. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Broadhay and wouldn't hesitate to book again if we were returning to the area.

The property
Hathersage 2 miles.
This lovely farmhouse attached to a stone barn is set on the owner’s own sheep and cattle farm, just outside the village of Hathersage, in some of the most beautiful Peak District countryside.
This cottage feels lovely and welcoming throughout, and provides spacious accommodation for families or groups of friends looking to discover this pretty part of Derbyshire.
With countryside views from all aspects of this Hathersage cottage, this is a great place to get together and relax, with accommodation including spacious bedrooms, a lovely kitchen, a spacious sitting room and a separate dining room.
Outside is a lovely large garden, with a pretty lawned area complete with furniture overlooking that wonderful Derbyshire countryside; it will be hard to tear yourself away from this peaceful Hope Valley setting to go and explore the wider area!
On the farm itself the owners run a clay pigeon shooting business, so why not try your hand at this for a holiday activity with a difference?
The pretty village of Hathersage, with its open-air swimming pool, variety of shops and cafes and even the burial site of the mythical Little John, is just two miles away.
Visit Castleton, with its castle and fascinating cave systems, Edale, the start of the Pennine Way, or Bamford and Hope all with walks aplenty.
All these villages offer a network of footpaths with some lovely pubs and tea rooms to sample.
Chatsworth House, Stanage Edge and the National Trust owned Longshaw Estate are all within driving distance, as well as the wonderful market towns of Bakewell and Buxton.
All in all, a wonderful cottage base for your break in Derbyshire at any time of the year!
Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £300.
About the location
HATHERSAGE
Castleton 5 miles; Curbar 5 miles.
The attractive village of Hathersage (‘Heathers Edge’) is situated within the Peak District National Park at the beginning of the Hope Valley and close to excellent walking at Edale. Many visitors come to Hathersage to visit the churchyard and the grave of “Little John” (of Robin Hood fame) - whether he ever really existed is for you to decide! Charlotte Bronte’s famous novel Jane Eyre is thought to have been inspired by her visit to Hathersage vicarage in 1845. For a village of its size there is a very good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat, as well as a public, open air heated swimming pool and railway station. A great centre for exploring the Peak District!
Please note: maximum 6 people allowed, including any infants.
