"Curlew Cottage is placed in the middle of beautiful countryside with amazing views from the windows as well as the terrace."
The parking is good and the owners are very friendly and welcoming. Despite its remote location, it was very easy to get around to places of interest, of which there are many. The kitchen was well equipped and the open plan layout of the living/dining room worked very well.

"Very pleasent stay."
The property is to a high standard, well presented/equipped and more than spacious enough for two. The location, though remote, is not too far (10 miles give-or-take) from the principle towns of Buxton, Matlock and and Bakewell.
Ideal for the older couple (as we are!) who enjoy walking, meandering through the Peak District and can (happily) live without Internet access for a while

It is a really lovely, clean, well equipped and comfortable cottage in a lovely position with views for miles and walks from the door. Sitting on the decking watching curlews, hares and deer so close was really special. The owners Claire and Garry were really friendly, welcoming and gave us some good info on walks in the area. "A lovely cottage in a beautiful, quite location."
Comfortable and warm (even when snow was falling outside) with a well equipped kitchen and a good sized bath.
The property was accurately described and it is an excellent base for exploring the Peak District.
Curlew Cottage lived up to its name with the burbling call of curlews heard and which could be seen in the adjacent fields. (In early April.)

Situated on a farm with lovely views over the fields beyond. It really is a home from home.
The cottage was spotlessly clean and very well appointed. The kitchen has everything you could wish for and more.
Ideally located for day trips out around the Peak District area.

Everything about it met our expectations, which is not always the case. The property was clean and well layed-out, the furniture comfortable and the view amazing. It was a fantastic base to explore the Peak District and the Derbyshire Dales. We live within minutes of Exmoor, and have found in our travels that nothing compares to the area, until now. We will visit again.

"My partner and I stayed at curlew for 6 nights at the beginning of August, the cottage far surpassed our expectations."
Beautiful clean cosy cottage in stunning surroundings. Curlew had everything you could need provided, even tea and biscuits on arrival. The outdoor decking area is just lovely, we sat outside for dinner a couple of nights as the weather was just perfect, beautiful view's across the fields. Be sure to read the small print as WiFi is not available, but after the first day you get used to not having it.
The hosts were very helpful and friendly answering all our questions even on a Sunday night. We had plenty of lovely walks and trips to country pubs, took several trips to local areas, buxton wasn't too far and had lots to do and see.
Absolutely beautiful place to stay, I would go back In heart beat.

"We were very lucky with the weather being very hot during our stay and at times we needed to take cover from the sun when sitting on the outside decking area."
Unfortunately there was no sun umbrella at the cottage to give us some protection.
We appreciate that our weather in so unpredictable.We have stayed at the cottage twice before and never needed a Sun umbrella .
Everything else at the cottage was what we expected.

"If you want to get away from it all, this is the place."
Peace and quiet with superb views on your doorstep. Cottage was perfect for two people, clean, comfortable and well equipped. Places like Buxton, Matlock Spa and Bakewell are all a short drive away, as well as good walking and hiking venues. Good fish & chips in Longnor.

"We had a good time and the weather was kind."
Poor lighting throughout, but warm. No. hooks or shelves in bathroom. We were there for 7 nights and not once did the owners speak to us which we found quite amazing as other quests said they were friendly, they were only found the corner, at least the cat was happy to see us!
Many thanks for your feedback. The towel and the rack of wicker baskets has always been more than adequate in the bathroom. We changed all the light bulbs in the cottage to energy saving ones but we have extra lighting under the kitchen wall units and a brighter reading lamp available for close up reading. We will however look at upgrading the lamps again. With regard to not meeting you, we have been advised to have as little contact as possible within the properties from Sykes Cottages, but by chance we have bumped into a few guests in the parking area. Unfortunately we didn't get to meet you on this occasion as we have 5 holiday cottages and have had changeovers every day.

"The lighting in the cottage was very poor, especially for reading and looking at maps."
There was a bath but not enough hot water to fill it to a reasonable depth.
The windows didn't open very much and you couldn't leave the door open because of the cat.

"As a person with some walking disability issues I found Curlew Cottage very easy to cope with."
The gravel drive could cause some problems on accessing the cottage but we were able to back our car right up to the door and the start of the wooden decking area which was nice and firm.(driving away on the gravel needs to be SLOW!) The views from the decking area were amazing and could also be seen from all the windows of this very well equipped cottage.The welcome gift of delicious local cheese and oatcake biscuits from the kind and helpful owners was much appreciated.We would highly recommend this lovely cottage in a beautiful and peaceful spot making for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday.

"This is my second visit to Curlew Cottage."
It was every bit as good as last time. The owners are friendly and welcoming and the cottage is comfortable and well equipped. The view from the cottage is wonderful and it is in a great location for exploring both Derbyshire and the Staffordshire Moorlands. I would recommend it. The only thing it doesn't have is Wi-Fi but that is made clear on the website.

"Lovely stone cottage with everything you could want."
Very clean with modern bright interior. We were fortunate to have sunny weather and really enjoyed having breakfast outside watching the curlews landing nearby.
Although there is no internet we could easily catch up on emails at The Manifold Inn nearby. The cottage is well situated for trips out whether walking, cycling or visiting Buxton, Chatsworth and Bakewell. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday.

"Given that this property is rather isolated and there was a lack of up to date leaflets regarding things in the area, I think the availability of wifi is a must."
I did not want to keep up with emails etc. but I wanted to carry out research, check opening times, check the weather as the tv did not seem to offer a weather forecast for the area we were in. I wanted to find out more about walks in the area and the cycle trails but there was nothing in the cottage to help. We picked up a load of new leaflets and left them in the cottage which may help later occupants. The property itself was excellent apart from the lighting which was very poor and it was nearly impossible to read given the poor level of lighting. The shower ran hot and cold but that was probably due to poor water pressure as there was another cottage behind us. We loved the cheese which was left by our hosts and I would stay at Curlew Cottage again but only if wifi was available.

Where you’ll be staying
HARTINGTON
Bakewell 10 miles; Buxton 10 miles.
Hartington, situated in the Dove Valley in the Peak District National Park, was an important market centre in the Middle Ages, having been granted a market charter in 1203. Today the ever-popular village boasts lovely tea rooms, a cheese shop, old curiosity shops, traditional pubs and a splendid market square where the stone-carved village pump, once an important source of water for the villagers, still stands on the green. The local bars stock local ales brewed at the Leatherbritches Brewery in Fenny Bentley and Whim Ales in Hartington itself. The former Hartington railway station, about a mile and half from the village itself, is now a picnic area and the converted track is known as the Tissington Trail, popular with both walkers and cyclists. Hartington is also a good starting point for walking along Beresford Dale, a beautiful place with its curiously formed cliffs and rocks. Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are both within a 20 minute drive, and Alton Towers is within easy reach.
