  • "If the owner had not left the rental door unlocked, we would have had to stay elsewhere that night."

Beginning 2 days prior to the time, I asked for the door code. We arrived very late and I emaed saying as much, far in advance. So when I never got it, I called Sykes but they were closed. There should be an emergency 24/7 number. We saw the owner the next day and he knew nothing about my several attempts of communication. And tho I booked it through a 3rd party (Expedia) they were unable to help, all they had were the listing # of Sykes as well. The holiday was wonderful and the mishap was not at all the fault of the owners, but il had the owner not left the door unlocked for us, it would have been a very different first night.

Hi there, Thank you for the feedback on your stay. I'm pleased you enjoyed your stay, but you obviously didn't need the stress of not having the key code before arrival. I have picked this up with Sykes as it is not acceptable. Sykes issue the keycode on booking. I always send an email to all bookings (usually same day as you book) with loads of information about the barn, how to find us, things to do, keycode and three emergency contact numbers. I have a record of the one I sent to you on 19th Aug. You obviously hadn't received it, I guess because it was not your personal email address. Hopefully Sykes will assure me that this can't happen again. Thank you for the great feedback, and hopefully see you again. Property Owner

  • "Overall, a very good stay."

The weather turned on our last day there, but we were very happy to settle in and make ourselves comfortable - which is what you want if you're holidaying in the UK. Although there were only two of us, we didn't feel like we were rattling around in there. Then again, we do like our space, which is one of the reasons we picked this property. There was very little need to contact Rob, but he responded promptly when we did and was very friendly. We'd happily recommend Walnut Barn to others, and would definitely stop again if we planned to take a break in the area in future.

Thank you for the nice and positive feedback. I'm pleased you enjoyed your stay. It is mainly just couples at this time of year, so nice to hear it was cozy enough for just the two of you. Hopefully see you again in the not too distant future. Thank you. Property Owner

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely barn conversion and would heartily recommend it."

The quality and quantity of local information provided by the Owner was invaluable. We stayed as two friends sharing and, whilst the property can sleep up to 6 (including 2 bunk beds best for kids), the dining table/area would be a bit of a squeeze at full occupancy. Some form of heated towel drying facility would have been appreciated and whoever said that the walk to/from Ambergate takes 10 minutes is clearly more athletic than we are! But these are minor gripes and overall we would rate the property as excellent.

Thank you for the lovely feedback. I know you had great weather for your stay too. I will look into something for heated towels for future use, that is a good point. I'm sure that hill from Ambergate is getting steeper. Must be the tectonic plates moving and forcing it up. Or could be me just getting older?? Hopefully see you guys back here again. Thank you. • "Just returned from a great week at Walnut Barn."

Rob made us feel welcome and it was clear that if we had any issues with the property (which we didn't) then they would be resolved without problem, after that we were left to our own privacy at the property which is excellent hosting. The property is superb. Extremely clean, the beds are comfortable and everything you could need is there. The finish of the property is immaculate and quite clearly a labour of love by the owners! The area itself has a lot to offer, we tend to visit castle and country homes and you will not be disappointed. Chatsworth, Bolsover, Haddon Hall, Hardwick Hall, Kedleston Hall are all worth a visit but avoid Nottingham Castle which is dreadful!! The local pub is a 2 minute walk away and we received a warm welcome. If going for food then its worth checking with them first, no food on Monday and Tuesday's and none on the Friday night before we left which was frustrating as the food we did have there was excellent. The town of Belper is a few minutes drive away and has all the shops you would expect as well as good pubs and restaurants for food and drink. All in all an excellent week and would certainly visit again.

Thank you very much for the awesome feedback! I'm so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay here. You certainly had a busy one. Some good weather while you were here too (at no extra cost :) ). Hopefully see you again. Property Owner

Good information guide supplied. Local area is beautiful and the pub was a friendly place to go and relax in. A good central location to explore the area, but close enough to all the places you want to visit and explore. The alpaca’s were delightful and enjoyed us feeding them with the food left in the cottage especially for this We had a lovely visit and would visit again

Thank you very much for the great feedback, it really does make a difference. Great to hear you enjoyed our part of the world. It is beautiful and surrounded by lots of things to do. And I'll pass on your nice comment to Paul at the pub. Hopefully see you again. Many thanks. Property Owner

Lots of lovely walks and plenty to do in the area. Having two lovely Alpacas was a nice touch. Comfortable for a family of 4 (will also be comfortable for family of six with younger children). Nice local pub within 2 minutes walk. Only suggestion is to have more crockery if serving 6 people but otherwise well provided.

Thank you for the constructive feedback. It is always good to receive suggestions. We haven't received a comment about the crockery before, but that is an easy one to address, particularly for when we have six guests staying here. I will move the spares into there. I'm pleased that you enjoyed the barn and your visit here. Many thanks. Property Owner

The only one thing I would say is, if 6 adults were to stay here there isn’t enough seating, ok for 4 adults and 2 children which I think it’s perfect for but we had 5 adults one child so we were one seat short on an evening if we wanted to relax! There are extra bench seats for dining as you can’t get 6 around the table! Saying that it wouldn’t put me off staying here again and we will definitely try to return, the beds and bedding were so comfortable, had great nights sleep! We made trips to Matlock Bath, heights of Abraham which was a beautiful day, also Chatsworth house was amazing,, if you are National trust members, Hardwick hall is definitely worth a visit! We went into Belper for essentials, easy to park in CoOp there and the chippy on kings street down the main run had the best chips we’ve ever tasted! Bakewell is a nice little village, if going when busy though best park just outside the centre, we stumbled upon a huge car park after driving abit through the village looking for parking, it had a cafe, the best views and it was perfect as the village was only a 2 min walk over a bridge, better than trying to park in the centre! (Sorry can’t remember the name) but it was through the centre, carry on for a few mins and you won’t miss it! We wanted to eat in the spanker inn but on the night we went it didn’t do food(mon/tue) so we drove back into Belper and eat in the Devonshire pub which was really nice food and good value! Really good location to get to places, everywhere we wanted to visit was within 30 mins away! Thanks again Rob for a lovely stay!

Hi Vicky. I'm so pleased you guys enjoyed your stay. Great weather too! And you certainly crammed in a lot. I'll make a note for other guests that that the Spanker doesn't do food on a Monday or Tuesday now. Sounds like you parked at the Showground or 'Smiths Island' car park in Bakewell? Thank you for leaving everywhere nice and tidy. My cleaner thanks you :-) Hopefully see you again in the future. Best regards, - Rob Property Owner

Rob is an attentive host, whilst always on hand to help and pass the time of day also respected our privacy completely. The property is a wonderful conversion. The attention to detail and finish of the property is amazing and has everything you could need or wish for, including the lovely welcome pack of eggs and alcohol to toast our arrival. Make sure you take time to meet and feed the animals - the alpacas are amazing but the stars of the show for us were the ducks: such little characters! Walnut Cottage is perfectly placed to explore the surrounding area. We would recommend the Great British Car Journey (evoked such great memories of my Dad’s cars, as well as some of my own) and Arkwright’s Mill, where the guided tour is a must. All in all, we would not hesitate a stay at the beautiful place. Book it now, especially if you want to escape the daily rat run - the peace and stillness sitting in the garden area will immediately relax you. Thank you Rob for a great time
