David met us and was very friendly and accommodating. They had left us a wonderful welcome basket of goodies in the cottage full of lovely things to get us through the first day. It was a joy to stay in such a comfortable place surrounded by countryside but not too far from lots of attractions of the area. If we are in that part again, we would certainly go back. Barn Owl is an immaculately clean and tastefully decorated property with so many touches of luxury such as the generous welcome basket on arrival and beautiful crockery. David and Andrea were the friendliest and most attentive hosts you could ever wish for, they even bought us an anniversary card! I would 100% recommend staying here for a peaceful escape, we’re already planning our next trip!

  • "This was a last minute booking but one of the nicest places we gave stayed."

We had a warm welcome from both David and Andrea who clearly have pride in what they have created here. There were so many nice touches, from the welcome hamper, gorgeous book, lovely smelling handwash/ shower gel to the most recent magazines. This is a real gem and so beautifully designed with quality comfortable furnishings. It was summer so we were able to sit outside and enjoy some peace and quiet. However it isn't 100% private as you are nextdoor to another barn. Its well located with a short drive into Ashbourne and Derby. There are also a few really nice restaurants nearby. Also a great base for exploring further into the peak district. The one thing to note is that our sat nav took us to the wrong place. It would be great if signage and something like reflector lights were at the end of the drive as its off a fast road. We nearly missed it every time when we returned in daylight so don't know how you'd find it in the dark.
