"Our 5th visit to Pine Cottage, already booked the 6th visit for Autumn 2025."
Obviously Pine Cottage, the Village of Yougreave and surrounding area tick every box. Thank you for yet another perfect holiday!

"We had everything we needed."

"Bit tired, all you need is there though."

"Another lovely stay at Pine Cottage for the Well Dressings."
The cottage suits us very well, especially when we have good weather and can enjoy the terrace. It is absolutely wonderful, on a June evening, having a drink, enjoying the view, and watching the birds overhead. We find the beds comfortable, though we bring our own pillows, and now that light-blocking curtains have been added we sleep well. The kitchen has everything we need. We cook Sunday dinners in there. The front room is still lacking in comfort not provided by the large number of cushions that have appeared but we’ll book again, for next year, as the positives outweigh all that. It is super clean and housekeeping contacted us this year to ask how we wanted the beds which was appreciated. We were also very pleased to be allowed to stay for an extra night at a very reasonable cost. Thank you.

"All the above star ratings are satisfactory."
We found Pine Cottage to be adequately provided within the confines of an intriguing and cramped old cottage having character common to this unique and fascinating village. There were two of us - a party of four adults would probably find it short on space, especially in wet weather. I notice (review Dec 2023) the toilet seat broke. Its replacement was loose and flimsy, and broke again. I purchased and fitted a sturdy replacement. Both kitchen and bathroom would benefit from additional lighting above sink and washbasin respectively. The lovely view to the South is disappointingly marred by failed double-glazing units. Thank you for our holiday. Dennis & Glenys.

"Already given and was disappointed in the cottage"

"I looked at the previous comments and agree that the kitchen is well stocked and the patio and view from the back are stunning and we very much enjoyed our visit."
However, as mentioned in previous feedback, there were still cobwebs in the bedrooms and a lot of dust behind the beds. My daughter and I both have Asthma and we were coughing much more than usual and my other daughter was sneezing a lot. It is misleading to say there is a gas fire when it is only decorative - what is the point of it? - however the heating system was excellent and there was always hot water. Also, the toilet roll holder and toilet seat were broken when we arrived.
Thank you for your feedback and I am thrilled that you enjoyed the wonderful views and found the kitchen stocked well. We were at the property ourselves a few week prior and all areas were thoroughly cleaned/hoovered including behind the beds. We are sorry if some dust or cobwebs had arrived in the period just before your stay, it is a character property in a rural area but the cleaning team do check those areas regularly and we will certainly ask the cleaners to double check that area again straight away. Any maintenance will also be immediately addressed if we are made aware and we do give out our property team contact numbers pre arrival to reassure guests that any help needed can be actioned as soon as possible. The gas fire is indeed decorative only and the advert points were updated in 2021 to reflect this, as we have fantastic central heating. As it was part of the room decor we chose to leave it in situ rather than have an empty space. Property Owner

"Our fourth visit to Pine Cottage so obviously we love the cottage, village of Youlgreave and it's closeness to the beautiful area of Derbyshire we love to visit."
The new patio was a huge bonus as even in October we & our Jack Russell enjoyed sitting outside on four days. Only slight niggle I managed to put out recyclable waste by front door for Thursday collection rather than suggested a local skip run a few miles away. Understand its hard in terrace houses, but a bit more information on what goes where would be helpful. Looking forward to 5th visit next year.
Thank you so much for your comments and glad you and your Jack Russell enjoyed another return visit, especially with the new patio. We do always very much appreciate if guests take their recycling to the local skip while out and about as doorstep collections are not possible due to it being rural with rural variable collection days, but if that has not been possible our cleaners would remove any separate clean recycling waste on changeover. Thank you also for the top cleanliness and maintenance scores, much appreciated as we our teams works hard to ensure the property is at its best for guests and we look forward to you coming again for visit no 5 next year. "A marvellous week, weather blisteringly hot, views from the cottage to die for."
A real sun trap from the rear, but could do with a bigger parasol...it didn't have a base either. We really enjoyed it but unfortunately the whole cottage smelt very strongly of dogs. We're very sorry but we had to use the bed throws on the sofa because it stank & we didn't want our clothes to smell. It was very off putting...great to take your dogs on holiday, but don't let them lay on the furniture. We found a fabreeze spray, but there was very little in it & there wasn't any cleaning sprays or domestos in the cottage, unlike last time. Thank you for the extra cushions but it didn't make the sofa anymore comfortable, it needs a new one. The bed is firm but we managed to sleep well...when it cooled down! We really would like to stay again, but please sort out the dog odours.
Thank you so much for your feedback. We're sorry you couldn't locate any cleaning spray, as there is usually one in the kitchen. We appreciate beds are subjective and personal preference but are glad that you still managed to sleep well. We are looking at replacing the sofa, in the near future. Regarding dog odour, thankfully this was an isolated incident and although it is already Sykes policy that pets cannot go on furniture we will remind guests of that moving forward. Property Owner

"This was a beautiful cottage."
But let down because of cleanliness & comfort. The sofa & chairs are so uncomfortable especially when we had been walking a lot, the beds are also uncomfortable the one with the zip digs into your arm when laying on your side.
Thank you for your feedback., the cleaning protocol is being reviewed and we are hoping to change the sofa in 2024. The zip on the zip link bed is usually our of the way and we are sorry if on this occasion you noticed it. Property Owner

"Thank you for your feedback in relation to your stay."
I can confirm that the curtains were lined at Christmas and we will be reviewing the condition of the oven gloves. We are very pleased to hear that you enjoyed sitting on our lovely patio whilst listening to the evening chorus. We are also very happy to see that you will return next year for your 4th visit. Thank you once again for your feedback.
Thank you for your feedback in relation to your stay. I can confirm that the curtains were lined at Christmas and we have now put silicone oven gloves in the kitchen. We are very pleased to hear that you enjoyed sitting on our lovely patio whilst listening to the evening chorus. We are also very happy to see that you will return next year for your 4th visit. Thank you once again for your feedback and for acknowledging the overall cleanliness with your top score, we are also hoping to have the sofa replaced in 2024 and we are glad you found the bed comfy. "Great location Nice and clean but had to ask for toilet paper"
Hi There, thank you for your feedback. Holiday cottages are usually self catering but we do like to leave some extras in the property for guests. Apologies as presumably the housekeepers had accidentally overlooked leaving some extra for your visit. We're glad you enjoyed the amazing location we have to offer and hope you book with us again. "We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Pine Cottage."
It had a lovely cozy feel to it, a well stocked kitchen, and an adequate bathroom. The views though were outstanding, with a lovely patio area to sit & eat, or simply just to sit & relax. The outside tap was an added bonus to clean the walking boots at the end of the day. Also the parasol provided, which you don't often get, will be very welcome in the warmer months as I'm sure the patio will be quite a sun trap. It's great to have a parking space right outside too. Our only bugbears really were the sofa not being very comfortable. At the end of a long walk, you need something to sink into ...that sofa wasn't it! The bottom sheets on the beds don't really fit the mattresses & could be of better quality. We were surprised the cottage didn't have a proper shower, but in fairness we still had good hot showers regardless. The cleaners missed quite a few cobwebs here and there & under the bathroom sink left staines where the cleaning products are kept. There was a slight smell of dog briefly but not too bad. It would definitely require a regular deep clean. Little things, little improvements. We have certainly enjoyed our stay here , so much so, we've booked again and hopefully we'll have a little less rain. Thank you!!
We are so glad to know that you enjoyed your stay at Pine Cottage! Thank you for the lovely feedback. We will look to add some additional cushions to the sofa for that extra bit of comfort. Regarding the bottom sheets, apologies as this was a mix up with our housekeeping, we will raise this with them to ensure the correct sheets are being used going forward and pass over your other comments. We love that you have booked with us again! We look forward to your next visit. x All the best. Property Owner

"We had a great stay."
Directions accurate. Entry by key safe. All clean and tidy on arrival. Lovely location, quiet, we were not disturbed by the neighbours. The village had great amenities despite its small size. We were quickly on a footpath and could walk to the river from the property. There was additional parking available in the village car park. The property had all the basic amenities we needed. The instructions asked us to take our recycling waste to local recycling centres however we could not find the one mentioned in Bakewell. Oven gloves and tea towels were provided and there was also a DVD player and selection of games which were not mentioned on the listing so that was a nice surprise. Excellent value for money, but not a luxury stay.

"The booking process was easy and the cottage had parking immediately outside."
It was clean both upstairs and down. The living room was comfortable and cosy and the kitchen had everything we needed. The bedrooms were spacious and the one we used was very comfortable. The bathroom had both a shower and bath. The patio area had seating and stunning views. We had no issues at all with the property and would definitely recommend it to friends and family. It was a great location for all the places we visited and had 3 local restaurants within a 5 minute walk.
Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. We are glad that you had such a good time staying at the cottage and found everything to your liking. We hope that you will visit again soon so that you can enjoy more of what Youlgrave and the Peak District have to offer. Property Owner

"Not happy because no Xmas decorations."
All other years been in cottages they had Xmas decorations just no atmosphere.Only 1 toilet roll in bathroom no cleaning chemicals at all only empty bottles.Settee not at all comfy bed ok. Will not be booking again.
Thank you for your feedback. The cottage is self catering, however when you arrived, you had been provided with a welcome pack of tea, coffee, sugar and milk. With regards to cleaning products there was washing up liquid, hand wash (in both kitchen and bathroom), toilet cleaner, cleaning sprays in both kitchen and bathroom, and also a toilet roll. The village shops, which supply many basic needs, were open on both the evening you arrived and the following day . We are sorry that you were disappointed by the lack of Christmas decorations, however decorations are very much a personal choice. Whenever we have stayed in a cottage over Christmas we have taken a few decorations with us. Property Owner

"We have stayed at pine cottage before back then it was a little tired and ok in the way of being clean but it’s views and location made up for it."
This time it was very tired and dirty with the added bonus of a big gas pipe running right though the living room the fire was not working last time and wasn’t this time either . There was dog poo in the back yard and the patio table had wet slushy bread on it that I had to clean up. There was a constant squeak coming from the gas meter that got annoying. The village and the views were still amazing but unfortunately we will not be staying at Pine cottage for a third time.
Thank you for taking the time to comment. We are sorry that previous guests had clearly not cleared up after their dog and left crumbs on the table outside. If there had been other general issues relating to cleanliness, the housekeepers (whose number you were given)would have been able to resolve things. With regard to the gas pipe and gas fire, the central heating was upgraded last year and is now a very efficient system that heats the cottage quickly. There is no longer any need for a gas fire as all the rooms have individual thermostatic controls. The copper pipe is running against a beam on the ceiling and whilst functional, we do not feel it is unattractive. We are sorry that this bothered you. Property Owner
-
"The only part of this cottage was that the gas fire was not working as the orignal listing it was included."
but aprt from that everyting else was ok.
Thank you for your excellent cleanliness and comfort scores etc. The advert has also been amended since you made your booking to clarify that the fire is for decorative purposes only. Property Owner

"Our 3rd visit to Pine Cottage."
Had an unhappy experience which was handled awfully by the agents (not Sykes) and owner for the cottage. I would not recommend this cottage because of this. The description and joining instructions have been inaccurate for over 14 months. There is no gas fire. It is just there for show but doesn’t work. Doesn’t look like there’s an intention to replace it. We won’t be returning to the cottage even though Youlgrave is a wonderful place to stay. Hugely disappointed
Many thanks for your comments, the gas fire is indeed decorative only and the advert has been updated to reflect this. Directions to the property are quite comprehensive and we have not found a guest have an issue with this but will monitor that. Property Owner

"This was our second visit to Pine Cottage."
We really love staying there and will do so again. Any criticisms are minor, as it’s very tidy, unfussy, clean and comfortable and suits us very well. It’s the patio and the view from the patio that is the big sell, as is the option to take a pet. Sitting out there in the evening, listening to the birds, and admiring the view, is a huge pleasure. It’s still safe for pets though since the patio has been updated and improved, the area is barer, with less planting. (There are now a couple of gaps that a little dog, unsupervised, might wriggle through.) We did also miss the plants and thought a few bushes might soften the harder garden features? I suppose upkeep is the thing. It’s still a lovely, calm, surprisingly private-feeling space. The light still streams in through the east-facing bedroom window at dawn. We were prepared and had popped a blanket over the curtain pole. A light blocking blind or curtains would solve the problem. I think better quality bed linen and kitchen equipment would be great, but we understand it’s a holiday cottage. Everything you need is provided and it’s all absolutely fine. I will be booking again for next year’s Well Dressings.
Many thanks for the top cleanliness score and excellent comfort and facilities scores etc and for acknowledging the patio improvement. We will out blackout lining on curtains, thanks for the suggestion. Property Owner

"Fantastic cottage."
Lovely stay
-
"Ideal for a summer break but after wet and windy weather it would have been lovely to have had a fire and both my husband and I couldn’t sit in the two chairs provided to read as they were more like dining chairs ."
The cottage was spotlessly clean a doormat and boot tray in the porch would have an been an asset.

"Thanks so much for a lovely stay."
It's really great to be able to stay in a place that is pet friendly as it adds to the experience for those of us who want to share our special time away with our favourite canine friend. I was really grateful for all the amenities supplied as I had a couple of dear friends over for dinner the night after my friend's mother's funeral. I will definitely book here again in the future. Thanks again.

"Our 2nd visit to Pine Cottage in 5 months."
Beautiful location and a great base for either walks in the locality or travelling 30 mins to some of the Peak Districts other gems. Felt very at home in the cottage. Well equipped and provided everything we needed. New patio area looks stunning. View from patio down Bradford Dale is amazing. The gas fire needs some attention. Either needs replacing or taking out so that a real fire can be made. Cottage much cleaner this visit thank you. Hope to visit again soon
many thanks for acknowledging the cleanliness with your top score and the great comfort and facilities score. The advert does now clarify that the fire is only for decorative purposes as we now have a far more efficient heating system. Property Owner

"This is our third visit to Pine Cottage as it is the perfect cottage for us in our favourite Derbyshire village with lots of places we want to visit close by."
Warm, clean, comfortable, well equipped with perfect walks from the front door. Youlgreave has 3 pubs, Post Office & lovely shop with local produce & takeaway and 2 cafes! We had beautiful weather last week & made good use of the south facing back patio with views, will definitely return.

"Nothing drastically wrong but a few improvements would have made the stay more enjoyable."
Described as end of terrace cottage but in fact terraced. Smell of dogs noticeable downstairs No washing line. Living room seating very uncomfortable, especially the single chairs. No head support and after a day out you need to collapse into something more comfortable and not sit upright with No head support. Shower curtain rail kept collapsing. Carpet in bathroom!! Smelt of urine. No cleaning materials for toilet or kitchen worktops/sink. Tablecloth would have been a good idea for table to save food getting into grooves On the plus side, back bedroom spacious and comfortable . Plenty of hot water. Heating very efficient. No problems parking outside cottage. Kitchen well equipped. Nice to see signs of improvements ongoing.
Many thanks for your feedback. The property does accept dogs and we will of course check the property for any residual odour and will deodorise the area appropriately. Seating can of course be subjective and I'm sorry that the chairs didn't suit you on this occasion. The shower curtain rail was checked and quickly repaired, as soon as we were made aware. The carpet in the bathroom has now been replaced with lino. I'm glad you enjoyed the space and comfort of the bedroom and that hot water and heating were good. Thank you for acknowledging improvements, much appreciated, we do take guest comments on board and where possible make improvements to enhance guests' experience. We hope to see you again in the future. Property Owner

Poor quality everything, smelt of dog urine on the awful chairs and stained , human urine smelling bathroom carpet, sofa small and uncomfortable, patio overgrown, generally awful
When you telephoned you were offered an additional clean which you refused, previous and subsequent clients have not found these issues. The cleaning company is very experienced and have always been very proactive in their communication about any problems. We are sorry that the cottage was not to your liking. Property Owner

"We stayed at Pine cottage for a week with our Dog Jesse."
It’s a lovely spacious cottage. The back bedroom had a amazing view, comfortable large bed and plenty of cupboard and drawer space. The kitchen had everything you need. If I had one bit of advice for the owner i would change the carpet in the bathroom to hard floor. We would definitely stay again
-
"Amazing location."
Small cottage but well equipped apart from no dishwasher. Beds on the small side for adults. A great place for a short break.

"Fantastic little cottage."
Loved the small outside area which was great for relaxing with great views.

"This is our second holiday in Pine Cottage, this one re booked from last year and had such an enjoyable week!"
Perfect location, tastefully decorated, well equipped, beautiful views from garden. The village of Youlegreave has everything to offer, 3 pubs, post office and general store, lovely deli for those all important lunches to take out for the day! Close to so many places which we love, Bakewell, Tissington, Ilam National Trust, Buxton, Curbar Edge , Chatsworth House Estate, to name a few, Owner helpful and welcoming, the perfect place to go post Lockdown holiday, only problem a week is never long enough, will certainly return.
-
"We have been to Youlgreave previously and love the village."
Pine cottage is well placed in the village, especially if you have dogs. It was very comfortable with enough space for the three of us. Will book again if going to Youlgreave
-
"Clean comfortable well equipped cottage in a great village with 2/3 good shops selling food etc."
Fantastically located for walking on your doorstep or travelling to local towns and attractions.
-
"The cottage was comfortable and well equipped."
It was within walking distance for the village shop and 3pubs. The directions to the cottage were accurate and easy to follow. There was also milk, tea, coffee and sugar for when we arrived.
-
"Great cottage but let down by poor housekeeping."
The ignition on the oven didn’t work and there was no gas supply to the oven. The freezer box was frozen over. Cutlery drawer was filthy so that had to be cleaned out before using. The overall cleanliness of the cottage let it down.
-
"The place was very clean and comfortable."
Everything (including how to work the heating) was explained very well so we could use it with ease. The hosts actually provided us with tea/coffee and a little milk which was a really lovely touch. Great location and very easy to drive to Bakewell and other walks around the Peak District.
-
"Yes, we had 3 light bulbs blow and only one bulb in the property we were able to replace But the property was very comfortable the bathroom could have done with a shower."
But were happy to get the property as it was the only one left to rent in that area we wanted, as we were booked in another cottage and the owner had passed away and that was canceled.
-
"The cottage was well equipped but would have benefitted from a fixed shower rather than hand held"
-
"Lovely clean cottage in a fabulous village in a beautiful area."
Only feedback would be to put up a hook for the over bath shower so you can have a proper shower. Other than that fab
-
"Location was perfect, cottage had everything we needed."
It was comfortable for 2 people but would have been a bit cosy for any more. Just enough hot water for both of us to have a bath (there is no shower). I assumed due to the pictures that the cottage had a double bed in each room, but missed the fine print saying you had to specifically ask for that, so that was a bit annoying. Also, being a pet-friendly property the living room has a pretty strong odour of dogs, and there is quite a lot of animal hair throughout - the carpets could really do with a deep clean. The back terrace was lovely, overlooking the hills and south-facing so got good sun all day. Would be even better if it had a BBQ or brazier for evenings. There is a wild swimming spot in the village and lots of good hikes nearby. The wifi was a bit of a hassle but we didn't really care, being on a break from the city :)
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry for any confusion over the arrangement of the beds and will try to make this more clear so that future guests can have the set-up that works best for them. We will also talk with our cleaners regarding the dog hair. Thank you also for your other suggestions regarding possible improvements for the future. Property Owner
-
"Cottage was lovely and very clean and well equipped."
The seating in the lounge was not adequate. It was very uncomfortable. It would benefit from 2 sofas rather than 1 very small sofa and 2 occasional chairs. Beds were also very small but this was due to small bedrooms. Shower was rubbish, it did not attach to the wall. Cottage was very well equipped. Youlgrave is a lovely village and very near to Bakewell. The bulls head pub is fantastic, good food and real ale. We would return if the aforementioned things were addressed.
Thank you for your feedback. Pine cottage is a small traditional stone built cottage, and as such the rooms are quite small in keeping with the style of build. With regards to the shower, it is clearly advertised in the listing as a hand held shower over a bath. The beds are a standard double and a king size (which can be split into twin beds). Sorry if this was not satisfactory. Property Owner
-
"Lovely setting and well presented and had good range of facilities, including tea and coffee!"
!! Clear and simple instructions left for us. Will be going there again. Thank you for a brilliant holiday base.
-
"We have had many holidays with Sykes, all very good, but Pine Cottage exceeded all expectations."
We love the village of Youlegreave and our holiday cottage was perfect.. Decorated tastefully maintaining all the character and charm. Very clean and well equipped . Warm and comfortable with every need catered for. We were able to park our car outside was a bonus. The view from the back of the property is perfect and enjoyed having morning coffee outside in the enclosed sunny patio even in October! Lovely walks from the front door, we especially love the River Bradford walk. The Bulls Head Pub only a short walk away serves lovely food, also Post office for your milk and newspapers and a lovely deli grocery shop, with home made produce. The only problem was that a week was not long enough, and we will definitely return to this perfect cottage!
-
"It was very enjoyable and relaxing."
Booking was very easy and the use of a key safe is an excellent and trouble free way of access to the cottage.
-
"Pine Cottage is an ideal hideaway with wonderful views."
The cottage itself was as described and had many personal touches with plenty of added bonuses making it more homely than most other holiday accommodation. Roadside parking was easy just outside the front door. Overall we enjoyed our stay, but there were however two downsides for us. This especially being the sofa and chairs in the living room. These really were the most uncomfortably experienced and not ideal after busy hectic days when wanting to just relax in comfort (In fact we used two of our folding camping chairs as they did the job better!). Also, the water pressure in the shower was almost useless - but suppose it did the job, eventually. Having said that, We would not hesitate to book Pine Cottage again should we being going back to that area.
-
"A lovely little cottage with stunning view."
In general it was clean, but when we arrived the dustbin was full, as was the food waste bin. There were instructions on how to dispose of recycling at local sites, but no indication when bin day was. We had to find out the information on-line. Also we had to call the property agent as there was a serious leak from the toilet waste pipe, which, judging from the staining on the ceiling below, looked like it had been a problem for some time. However they were quick to rectify. The wi-fi signal was intermittent.
-
"Lovely cottage and location."
Unfortunately internet not available as listed for most of week, reported it on 3rd day. Also seating in lounge could of been more comfortable following a long days walking.
-
"The cottage was quaint and mostly as expected."
When we arrived just inside the front door it was clear someone had been painting as there was paint pot, brush and sheet in the front porch as well as a strong smell of fresh paint. We put the bits under the stairs to get them our of the way. There also was no working bulb in the upstairs landing light. We didn't like the fact that there is no bin to put your recycling rubbish in and are asked to take it away with you (We're meant to be on holiday). And the hand held shower is a pain but useable. And there is a massive cobweb that has not been cleaned by the fireplace. Otherwise we loved it there. It was very cozy and comfortable. It makes a good base for exploring matlock bath. Everything else was clean and well maintained. The sofa could be a little bigger/comfort but ok for what it is. We had a lovely time here.
