"Absolutely beautiful cottage, a nice sized kitchen."
The garden was very nice and very secure. I could confidently let my dog out knowing that he would not be able to escape! The only negative I would say is the location of the property if you were to travel by bus or train as it is up at the top of a huge mile long hill. You really need your car,I almost considered not travelling by car - good job I did! But,Absolutely beautiful otherwise and the views were great.
-
"The property was in excellent condition and well maintained with all necessary items within, the dog also really loved it from the off which does not always happen."
Only slight drawback is it is at the top of Matlock and to walk into town would have been hard work so drove down. Would stay again.
-
"Lovely house in great location in Matlock ."
Couldn’t ask for more the house was spotless with beautiful decor very clean and modern but homely too ,we loved our time spent here! Fields and woods close by which was great for the dogs, visited Lumsdale falls which was a good but manageable walk from house ! Other local attractions were Bakewell , Chatsworth and Cromford mills . We were very lucky with weather so got to enjoy the garden and the views ! Just be warned it is a steep walk back up from Matlock town !! Nice welcome baskets from owners . Would recommended and definitely stay again !
-
"The cottage is beautiful, with a lovely enclosed courtyard garden for the dogs , it’s very comfortable and has amazing views, a lovely welcome pack was supplied for our arrival , also very peaceful with walks from the door , lovely big Plainfield 200yds up the road and dog friendly."
We would definitely return
-
"Beautiful cottage in an idyllic location to explore the Peaks."
The views are amazing and the cottage has everything you need for your holiday. There's parking, a pub down the road and enclosed gardens if you have young children or dogs. The most important thing for me though is the cleanliness and this didn't disappoint. There's nothing worse than having to wash cups and plates before you use them! Although we've visited this area quite a few times now I think we'll definitely be back and will stay here again.
-
"This is my second stay at Cavendish Cottage."
I rarely, if ever, rebook places, preferring to explore somewhere new but I loved it the first time so booked again and it didn’t disappoint. It’s a fab location for exploring local area and there’s lots to do around Matlock and surrounding areas. We had a great time and loved our home away from home. The cottage is gorgeous and the location perfect, opposite a small park and forest. It’s also dog friendly and fully fenced.
-
"Beautifully restored cottage , well equipped, comfortable beds ."
Story books for the children Welcome pack left by Emily . Wonderful views over Matlock . Would definitely recommend if visiting this area . Enjoyed our stay with our grandchildren.
-
"We stayed here for 7 nights, cottage is well- maintained, it was clean- everything smelt fresh including the cushions."
On- road parking but plenty of spaces. Beds are comfortable, rooms are spacious including the bath/shower room. Cleaning equipment provided- mop & hoover but you have to bring your own cleaning products. The owner is quick to respond for any queries. We love the welcome pack with some goodies! This is a very good location for dogs, as there’s a huge playing field next to the cottage. Lovely view from the front windows. About 20 min walk to town but bear in mind, this is located at the top of the hill so going back will take double the time unless you’re very fit. We loved our stay here, it was quiet and relaxing.
-
"It was a great pleasure staying in this very nice cottage, in the hilly Matlock, very clean, cosy and comfortable."
Beautiful views, clean, crispy air , amazing open green space for walking the dog, next to the cottage. I have nothing negative to say. Thank you for the hospitality !
-
"Well equipped, clean and maintained to a high standard."
We had a very comfortable two night stay and wished we could have stayed longer.
-
"Lovely cottage in a very quiet location overlooking Matlock."
Views from the master bedroom are gorgeous! Cottage was equipped with everything we needed, was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Our children enjoyed the park which is situated directly across the road. Note: as others have said, the cottage is located at the top or a very steep hill. We knew this before booking so it wasn’t a problem but do bear in mind
-
"Exceptional property with amazing views."
-
"Beautiful little place, difficult to fault in all honesty."
Lovely kitchen and bathroom, extremely comfy beds and amazing views out the front windows! Had an amazing stay and loved exploring the Peak District from this beautiful cottage in Matlock. Emily was extremely helpful when needed. Would definitely stay again.
-
"Immediate reaction on entering the property was that it was crisp and clean."
Lovely space for a small family to return to after a day out in the Peak District. Large kitchen exactly as in the photos with a great range of quality cooking accessories. A real home from home. The heating was the easiest to use in any place I have stopped although I was hoping the weather would mean this wasn’t needed! Log burner was also lovey on an evening while relaxing with a glass of wine. Upstairs an outstanding bathroom with the biggest bath I’ve ever seen! Bedroom was immaculate too. The one thing I really noticed was although this was a terraced cottage, it was so quiet and peaceful. As we have dogs I always take away my own Dyson as generally the vacuums in rentals aren’t the best but here there was even a Dyson provided. I’d highly recommend this property if you’re looking for a base to explore the beautiful Peak District
-
"The cottage exceeded our expectations."
Warm, spacious and comfortable. Kitchen diner and bathroom were amazing. A suggestion would be if the owner provided an extra tea towel and bath mat but this is a very minor improvement. Our family really enjoyed staying at Cavendish Cottage and there was plenty of space for other family members to stay for the odd meal time.
-
"Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cavendish Cottage."
It was very easy to find and park up. We received a lovely welcome package on arrival too. The cottage was also perfectly placed for travelling to lots of nearby tourist attractions. Would definitely come back!
-
"Had a wonderful stay at cavendish cottage."
The property was spotless, very cosy and had everything we needed. Plenty of space to park and the garden was secure. We would definitely stay here again. Highly recommend this beautiful cottage.

Loved this cottage had everything you needed was cozy and warm has stunning views could do with an attachment on outdoor tap to clean the dogs off but it’s a fantastic place and we had a great stay

"This cottage is a real ‘gem’ of a find."
It is so well done with high end finishes throughout. There has been a lot of thought put into the finish and the quality of the cottage is amazing. The beds and linen were of hotel quality and the bathroom is immaculate with great walk in shower which has fantastic pressure. The kitchen is stunning with a beautiful large kitchen table. Situated in an elevated position overlooking Matlock itself. It is a short (but steep) walk back to the cottage. Everything is right on the doorstep, walks galore, lovely restaurants/bars/coffee shops and convenience stores. Emily was very quick to respond and provided little extras like milk, tea bags (well needed upon arrival!) there was also a quality packet of biscuits and some beer! These little ‘extra’ touches make the difference between a nice stay and a perfect stay! We are definitely going to book this cottage again and highly recommend it to friends and family. You will certainly not be disappointed in any way if you booked it…….do it and enjoy it as much as we did. Thanks Emily for a wonderful stay x
-
"Very comfortable and beautifully decorated cottage."
Thoroughly enjoyed the wood burner as the weather wasn’t great.
-
"We had a wonderful three night stay at Cavendish Cottage."
We are a family or two adults, two teenage girls and a dog, and the cottage was a perfect space for us to cook, relax, enjoy games and a few movies. The views out of the living room and master bedroom were amazing, so lovely to wake up to. The cottage is furnished and decorated to a very high quality, and the facilities were excellent (beautiful kitchen and bathroom, an additional toilet downstairs, real fire and superb wifi). The only slight downside is how high up you are - you get incredible views but the walk down into Matlock, and walk back up, is challenging but we were aware of this and it didn’t put us off our stay and still very much warrants this five-star review!
-
"A beautifully decorated well equipped cottage , in a great location ."
Would highly recommend , a real hidden gem
-
"This is a lovely comfortable cottage ,all the rooms have been decorated to a high standard ."
A steep climb up from the town of Matlock , but a great area close to lovely local villages. Our only suggestion would be to have some coat hooks and a tray for muddy shoes/ boots in the lobby area near the back door .
-
"Decorated to a high standard, very comfortable beds."
Good quality cot & high chair which was much appreciated often poor quality in holiday rentals. Emily was very quick to respond and resolve a small issue we had. Located in a great area, very quiet as on the outskirts of Matlock. Would come back again!
-
"Hi speck! Thank you for a very lovely house to stay in."
If only we had booked a longer stay. But we hope to return. The area has lots of places to see, and it’s a pleasure to go home to Cavendish at the end of the day.
-
"Stunning cottage with breathtaking views."
All of the fixtures & fittings within are of the highest quality & makes for a perfect home from home. Owners have provided everything you could possibly need. And the welcome pack was a lovely touch. We visited with our cocker spaniels who did find a way out of the gardens so whilst it is dog friendly, a point to be aware of.
-
"Cavendish Cottage was everything we hoped it would be and more!"
Location was fantastic and the property itself was so clean and tidy. We would highly recommend this property to anyone who wants a break in the Derbyshire Peaks. The owners should be very proud of their attention to detail.
-
"A beautiful property, with lovely views to the front ."
We really enjoyed staying there .Everything was provided and the little extras were appreciated. We would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking to stay in the Peak District.Well done to the owners and a big Thankyou
-
"Beautiful cottage in a lovely location."
The house was immaculate, very clean and the kitchen was well-equipped. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom had a lovely walk-in shower plus a bath if you wanted a soak. It’s a quiet and peaceful location at the top of Matlock with playing fields just behind which are perfect for exercising dogs.
-
"Beautiful location ."
Very friendly host . Everything was perfect with the weekend
-
"Lovely cottage updated to a very high standard."
I would have given 5 stars but we found the settee in the lounge very hard and uncomfortable and not the same one as in the brochure information I noted it was 7 years old and not up to the standard set by the rest of the cottage. The double mattress was not the most comfortable either although I do appreciate different people have different comfort levels.
-
"Lovely holiday cottage."
It was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Great location at the top of Matlock and a bonus having the small park across the road and playing fields around the corner. We had a great week exploring the area.
-
"An immaculately presented cottage."
Everything you need to start your stay in the Peak District was there. Fully enclosed rear garden meant the dog could safely roam around. Very large bathroom with separate walk in shower with as much hot water as 4 of us needed. Superb kitchen diner with large table made eating in a pleasure and the dishwasher and washing machine meant everything could be cleaned without too much effort. Regarding location, there are nice dog walks straight out of the door. We were advised by a lovely local gentleman on what paths to take. Cavendish road is one of the higher points in Matlock, something to bear in mind if, as we did you want to explore on your arrival. Walking down into town is very pleasant. The walk back up is certainly a work out! Beds comfortable enough, mattresses will never suit everybody and though not as firm as at home the sleep was good. I’d recommend this cottage to anyone wanting a relaxing break, but be prepared to use your car to get around at least some of the time.
-
"A very beautiful little cottage in a stunning location."
Back garden was ideal for my furry babies. Some nice walks too. I would recommend friends.❤️
-
"Had a brilliant week’s stay."
The house is immaculate - spotlessly clean and everything feels like new. It was incredibly comfortable, peaceful and relaxing with amazing views; great dog walks on your doorstep and some lovely pubs and a fab chippy in (hilly!) walking distance. Parking was no problem and the neighbours were all really friendly too. Would definitely recommend.
-
"Lovely cottage, completed to a high standard, great views and location, already booked to be back in July."
-
"A really comfortable and well equipped cottage in a good central location for exploring the Derbyshire Dales."
Owners provided a lovely welcome pack and attentive to the needs of their guests.
-
"A wonderful cottage, so well equipped and a brilliant base to tour Derbyshire and all it has to offer."
The are owners very helpful. We enjoyed our stay and found the cottage was warm, clean and comfortable. The log fire added to its charm in this very modern cottage with every facility you required. The pub was not far away, a short walk in fact, and the cottage an ideally positioned for nipping down the hill in to the centre of Matlock and surrounding areas. The local supermarket close by for fuel and shopping by and next to the station. We recommend the rail connection to Derby which in itself is a 40 minute service and really worth a trip for the views of the countryside with a train every hour. Would we book this cottage again, Yes, a 5 star rating from us.
-
"The property is beautifully finished, extremely clean and comfortable."
My favourite memory from my time here is sat in bed with my morning coffee, looking out at the stunning view from the bedroom window. We would definitely stay here again and I have recommended this property to all I’ve spoken to. Communication with the owner was very pleasant. A*

The open woodburner we had burning every night and heated the place up for these frosty nights. The cottage is beautifully prepared and appointed with all the facilities one could wish for would definitely recommend.

"This property is amazing."
...We booked this for our honeymoon and we were so pleased we did... The cottage is beautiful and the attention to detail is fantastic... Lovely little touches with the basket of goodies left for you on arrival. There's a real fire, which is just perfect in the evenings for snuggling up and then in the morning you wake up to beautiful views across Matlock and into the hills... We loved every minute of our stay. Emily and Jack were great at keeping in touch by text and nothing seemed too much trouble. We would definitely stay again .....

"Lovely property ."
Cottage is perfect for a lovely break . Parking outside property was no problem . Living room and kitchen diner are fitted with lovely furniture . Downstairs toilet a bonus. Upstairs the 2 bedrooms were warm and comfortable . The bathroom is fitted out lovely with a huge bath and a practical shower. Front & Back garden are well maintained and have garden furniture . Summing up this cottage is perfect for a holiday . The local area is ideal for dog walking.

"The cottage was amazing home from home."
Beautiful scenic views. Lovely walks with the dog.
-
"This was a great holiday cottage, much better than expected."
The listing on the Sykes website didn't mention washing machine or dishwasher, both of which are in the cottage. There is also a downstairs cloakroom, again not mentioned on the website. We were pleasantly surprised to find these extra facilities. The cottage is extremely clean and comfortable, with great views from the front and a well furnished back garden. The bathroom is fab, as is the kitchen and the cottage bathroom and main bedroom both have a feel of a boutique hotel. Highly recommended

"Stayed in this beautiful holiday home with my husband and son in July 2022."
The first holiday home I have booked and it was actually even better than the photos and description. Your home was immaculate, cosy, amazing views, close to many peak district activities and walks. We split our time between chilling out the front garden watching the views and loving life to visiting local friendly public bars and restaurant to then spending time at alton towers so something for everyone to do including our dog Lexi, who was loving life running around the huge playing fields 1 minute walk away! Kitchen was just fabulous, log fire in living area brought some good feelings at night time and views from master bedroom just wow and beds extremely comfy. Also loved the fact there was separate (very large!) roll top Bath in large upstairs bedroom and downstairs additional toilet was ideal. Having washing machine and place to sit round back also great. Owner of holiday home very respectful and leaves you to get on with it but also responds to anything you need very quickly. She's very friendly and special mention to neighbour on other side of property who made us feel welcome to their little piece of paradise in the peaks. Thanks so much for everything and if we don't make it back some time we will definitely be recommending! Mags, Dave, Leo and Lexi the spaniel xx

"Gorgeous cottage, beautifully decorated, so comfortable and well equipped throughout."
An amazing view from the front! Front and back gardens set up with furniture, ideal when moving from shade to shade in a heatwave. Parking easy, takeaways and pubs within walking distance of cottage and lots of choice in the town for eating out/drinks. Good dog walks too. Matlock is a good centre for access to lots of places of interest.
-

We had a very enjoyable holiday
-
"We had a fantastic stay at the cottage."
It was immaculately clean, really well equipped and the little extra touches such as the biscuits and dog dish/treats were a lovely thought. The cottage has fabulous views, is in a great location and feels really homely inside. It is decorated with great taste and the bed was ridiculously comfortable! We had a great couple of days out in bakewell and Buxton and would definitely recommend the place and area and will be visiting again. Thank you for making our stay so memorable.
-
"Very beautiful property with stunning views."
We had a perfect stay!
-
"Fabulous and we would highly recommend and hope to stay again some day."
-
"Very comfortable well-equipped house."
Looks newly refurbished, everything clean, shiny and in working order. Superb view from the front garden, which enjoys sunshine (when available!) well into the evening. Generous welcome pack. Ability to override central heating setting was useful at times in changeable English spring weather. Twin bedroom would possibly have been a bit small for a second couple and their luggage, but fine for two children or a third adult.
-
"The property was idyllic--perfect for our first trip to the UK!"
We appreciated the welcome basket, the cottage felt like home, and we enjoyed several treks into the town center, where we found quaint shops, various groceries stocking delicious British foods, and considerate townspeople. Perfection!
-
