• "Size & location of property good."

  Bathrooms clean & very big, could do with better blinds though as at night you can see straight through when outside. Lots of damp in downstairs bedroom. I know some of the ceilings are high but a featherduster could resolve all the cobwebs. Kitchen tired butfunctional. Beware water very hot as are radiators. Sofa missing back cushions. Windows very dirty, cracked glass in one of exterior doors. It needs some tlc & could be exceptional. I did note whole property is for sale. I didn't contact owners during stay as not quick fixes.

• "A lovely stay as usual at The Barn."

  So convenient for the Monsal Trail, which we rode end to end this time and for the lovely pub along the road. Great facilities for our large family. We will be back again, thank you.

• "We enjoyed our stay."

  The Barn is a lovely character property, which was clean and well appointed. The bedrooms and bathrooms were spacious and the kitchen had everything we needed to cater for 7 people. The living room is the area that lets the property down. There are 2 sofas, which sat 6 people snugly or 5 people more easily - a shame for a property that accommodates 8 people! One sofa also seemed to be missing the back cushions and wasn't particularly comfy. Otherwise, the area is beautiful and the location next to the Monsal Trail was ideal for us.

• "Location in the Peak BC a district is good."

  The property was clean but the mattresses were very uncomfortable as were the sofas. The parking isn’t exactly easy with some skilful manoeuvres needed to turn the car around and then a difficult exit to the main road through Miller’s Dale. There are sone cosmetic things to fix but since we spotted the property “… and Barn” for sale in an Estate Agent’s window in Bakewell, we suspect these will be fixed by the next owner.

  Thanks for your comments. There was dialogue between the owner and guest during their stay regarding how to use the oven which was resolved without issue. None of the things raised in the review were mentioned. The booking stipulates parking is provided for one car, more is available on request. If there is more than one car parked maneuvering is more tricky but the area can easily accommodate 3 cars so long as people are considerate of each other. There have been no other complaints about any of the furniture, quite the opposite, comfort is regularly praised. It’s unfortunate this guest provided negative views after, rather during, their stay when issues can no longer be resolved. Property Owner

• "We enjoyed staying at the Barn, there was so much room."

  just one thing, which I have mentioned in previous years, once again there were no safety handles or rails in the showers or by the baths. As we are now older we need such things. You really need to check that all your holiday cottages have them. Otherwise we were very pleased with it.

• "We absolutely loved The Barn."

  Other reviews talked about steep stairs, they're not steep and childrens gates are provided. Someone else mentioned the pans and crockery was tired and old, we found it was perfect. Ignore negative comments on other reviews, we had a wonderful time. The local area is fab and when we got back from a walk relaxing in the two tier garden was brilliant. If you need one reason to visit it should be the size of the en-suite bathrooms downstairs. Bigger than our bedroom at home!

• "A lovely very comfortable cottage."

  Clean and warm and well equipped. Fabulous roomy bedrooms and bathrooms, loads of hot water. Very comfortable for 6 adults and a baby. The only negative is the lack of recycling facilities at the cottage and the info in the file was incorrect (There are no recycling bins at Morrisons!).

• "Lovely accommodation."

  Bigger than I had expected and comfy beds. Very grateful for the use of the garage for our bikes as quite a wet week. We enjoyed cycling on the Monsal Trail and walks both up and down river. As well as trips to Eyam, Mam Tor & Chatsworth. The only thing missing, I felt, was a washing line. I'd brought a camping one and there is an airer so we made do, but I'm sure there's space for a retractable line or folding rotary one. Many thanks

• "It’s a lovely property which was let down by some issues."

  Plus it’s not really practical for bigger families. Issues: heating wasn’t turned on when we arrived. There was no hot water for showers in the evening or the following morning. When we asked for the heating to be turned up this was then fixed for the rest of the stay. Maintenance had missed replacing a smoke alarm battery and this went off all night on our last night. Some of the pans and utensils were very tired. We left some out for replacement. Practicality- there is only one (difficult) parking space. We were told to park in the nearby pay and display public car park, but this doesn’t allow overnight parking! The walk to the nearest pub (which is more than the 0.1 miles stated) is down a dangerous busy road with no pavement in places.

• "The Barn is a beautiful traditional property full of character in the lovely Miller’s Dale."

  Each room is cosy, warm and welcoming. Beds are very comfortable. Good quality bed linen and towels. Kitchen is well stocked for those wishing to self cater. Short walk to a traditional country pub which served good value meals for all the family. Owner provided torches for the walk home after dark which was a thoughtful extra. Directions were thorough making it easy to find the Barn. Short drive to many beautiful places within the peaks making it a great base. We enjoyed our stay & are looking forward to our next visit! Thank you

• "The property is in a good location for walking and there is a friendly pub a short distance away."

  However, although the pub is close enough to walk to, it is potentially dangerous to do this in the dark due to lack of pavements and traffic. Parking at the Barn is very difficult. The driveway is too small to manouvere a car when other vehicles are parked - which was very often during our stay. It is also steeply sloping which adds to the problem. The property is generaly well appointed although the kitchen and fittings/appliances are quite old/tired. There is a steep stone staircase which would be difficult/dangerous for anyone with mobility problems or small children. We had problems with the heating system during our stay. Only some of the radiators were functioning. These were reported to the owner but were not rectified during our stay.

  Thank you for staying with us at The Barn. The difficulties with lighting on the walk to the local pub are highlighted in our welcome pack and torches are provided for those who wish to use them, as per the listing parking is provided as standard for one vehicle, for those who require more space, this can often be accommodated by prior arrangement. The appliances and facilities in the kitchen are new, clean and well maintained. The property has stone steps internally, in keeping with the historic nature of it. These can be seen on the photographs of the internal layout. A stair gate has been fitted to the top for safety. Finally, a problem with the radiators was reported. Our maintenance person attended the same day. No further complaints were made nor have been since. We are proud of the Barn and work hard to keep it nice for people using it. Property Owner

• "The barn is set in a great Position for a relaxing break away ."

  Lovely walks and pub right on your door step . The barn is finished to a high standard, yes mobile signal is low -you are in the middle of beautiful countryside. Wi-Fi in the barn worked fine . Overall a great place to stay definitely worth a visit

• "The barn is absolutely beautiful!"

  The beds were very comfy and there is everything you need for a self catering break away in the kitchen , we had a slight issue with heating and hot water but we got in touch with the owner and she very quickly sorted the problem out. It’s in a great location , not far from Buxton or bakewell. Would definitely stay again!

  Plenty of room and the big table in the kitchen made for fun family meals. The walks from the front door kept us busy for a week, beautiful countryside and lovely to get home to this lovely house.

• "Beautiful barn in a lovely location our only problems were with no signal on TVs we believe this is being fixed but would have liked to have been informed before arrival,although we had WiFi due to the position of the area it dropped out often and there is also no phone signal but WiFi calls are possible."

  Having said that it did not stop us enjoying our stay at the barn and we would recommend it to our families and friends!
