Good location. Had a lovely weekend with friends very happy with accommodation.

  • "This property is full of character and has a great central location in Belper."

We come to Belper regularly to visit with family and have stayed in various lettings but this has been the one needing the most improvement. The cottage would benefit from a deep cleaning. The interior had quite a few spiders and webs in every room. There was pet fur on the couches and throughout the floors in the living room. To us, it appeared as if the cleaning was just at a basic surface level, not what we would expect between guests. We also had an issue with the upstairs shower where the temperature would not regulate and would go from scolding hot to freezing. We do think the home is a great option, but just needs some of these items addressed.

We do not normally respond to comments to avoid issues about subjectivity however we do feel that there are certain issues that should be clarified in relation to this. 1) we use a contract cleaning company (which was actually recommended to us by sykes). They have strict instructions about what is to be done/ what we expect and we visit the property regularly to ensure that the high standard is maintained. whilst we will of course raise these comments with the cleaning company we can categorically state that " the cottage would benefit from a deep clean" is factually inaccurate. 2) spiders webs do occur, very common in an old property and webs can recur within an hour of removal. 3)The whole lounge suite has only very recently been placed into the property so we know that it is in very good condition. 4) Finally the shower unit referred to is less than 6 months old .This will now be checked to ascertain if this is a valid fault or user error. We would like to reassure any guests that this property is maintained like our own home- our one aim is that all our guests have a very enjoyable stay. ps. the shower unit has been checked and it is working perfectly. • "A lovely cosy cottage in the centre of Belper."

Well positioned for exploring the town and surrounding area. Lots to see and do in Derbyshire. Cottage has been sympathetically renovated with many original features retained all adding to its charm. It is well equipped, although could do with some additional glasses and tongs for serving. We were fortunate to have very good weather and appreciated the enclosed garden and garden furniture. The only downside is the terrible state of the roads in the immediate vicinity for both walking and driving.

It has taken the opportunity away from me to write a proper review which is meaningful. Seems impossible to contact them to rectify it which leaves me with no choice but to raise the issue here. Shame, it has spoiled the experience for me.

  • "The property is lovely and kept to a high standard."

It was very clean upon arrival with everything you need for a week away. The stairs are steep and windy and aren’t ideal for children or those with mobility issues as some of the steps aren’t full steps. The seating in the living room really isn’t comfy neither. I do love a chesterfield, I think they’re lovely to look at but to sit on on an evening was very difficult. I’m currently seven months pregnant and found it very hard to get comfy as the seats are short and the back on the chair is low. Could really do with some footstools otherwise you’re sat very upright and slide off the seats. Feedback was the same from the rest of our party. We was really pleased with the cottage as whole. The garden was nice, it was in walking distance of everything in belper including takeaways, pubs, shops and supermarkets. These were all walkable from the cottage.

  • "Lovely cottage, and perfect for us for a half way meet up with friends."

Lots to do in the area, either by car for further away places or by walking from the cottage, as it was only a short walk to shops. Yet we felt like we were in a quiet and private area, out of the way. Would love to come back again. Thank you

  • "Lovely cottage in a great location."

Cottage very clean. Noise inside did travel but we expected that and the tall people soon learned to duck in doorways! Great to have two bathrooms and all beds were very comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay. Gate not secure if you have a dog that wants to get out and we had to cover an old sink in the garden to stop him drinking the foul water. The listing did say there was garden furniture. There's one bench chained to the ground so couldn't move it into the shade. Although there is also a table/bench, it's on the drive rather than in the garden so no good for us with our dog. We would have taken camping chairs had we known. The garden is beautiful though and a pleasure to be in.

Thank you for your feedback. The garden gate isn’t closing at the moment as a previous guest damaged the wall. We are waiting for a waller to repair it. There are deckchairs in the outside store for your use . Garden table and benches haven’t been put out because the weather has been so poor. However, they will be out from this weekend. The water in the trough is rain water, but we can cover it over if needs be. We’re glad you liked the garden- it is very peaceful. Property Owner

  • "A lovely traditional cottage, perfect for two sets of adults, 2 teenagers and our dogs too."

The garden was lovely and enclosed, however a gate did not latch so this should be sorted. Also coffee machine broken, which was disappointing. However, it was a brilliant experience, Belper was so friendly and in an excellent position to explore the Peak District! There was even a car park around the corner with EV chargers! We will be booking again soon!

We’re glad you liked the cottage. Unfortunately a previous guest damaged the wall which means the gate doesn’t close at the moment. We are waiting for a Waller to repair the damage. The coffee machine has been replaced- apologies for the broken one. We will be glad to welcome you back!! Property Owner

  • "Cozy cottage with a good location that needs a very good clean."

Fridge had dirt on all shelves where they sat in the fridge. Shower 1st floor glass and edging very dirty. Shower tiles broken at the bottom. Crisps under seating, only found due to losing a pen down the side. Garden pond / sink contaminated water. Had to cover it in case the dog drank from it. Garden was nice and big. I would give this 8/10 if cleaned to a suitable house standard.

We were really impressed when we first arrived. We stayed with 2 young children and they loved the duplo and children’s books, as well as the spacious garden to run around in. All the beds were super comfortable The only issue we had was that you could hear a lot of noise in between rooms but put that down to the fact it was a traditional older cottage. We were able to visit a few places so great location. We loved staying there!

Lacking slightly in utensils and suitable drinking glasses. Not very private internally as noise travels easily upstairs. We were 4 people all over 80 years and the stairs were a challenge. Very convenient and central for daily visits to other towns. Ideal location for younger people and families.

  • "A lovely stay at a really cosy cottage."

Great base for walking in the Peak District and Derbyshire Dales, and good local pubs and restaurants. The unusual stairs are challenging, but the sensor nightlight is really helpful, as some gaps in the doors and wood panels do make switching the lights off a necessity! The directions emailed send you to William Street not George Street so watch out for that too. Great week's holiday just when we needed it. Thank you.

  • "Overall a really pleasant week at Chevin View, we appreciated the way the cottage has been renovated, it’s well presented, warm and a bit quirky with a lovely garden in a quiet location that’s a short walk from Belper centre, but you need to take care if you’re really tall or infirm, due to low doorways and the stairway junction on the first floor!"

Having said that, we’re pensioners and we managed! It’s well equipped with quality kitchen items and also has comfortable beds, nice thick, white towels and good showers. We couldn’t get comfy on the lounge furniture though and would strongly recommend it being replaced - it only seats four people too. No welcome pack on arrival, not even tea and coffee, or salt and pepper pots. This may have been an oversight but don’t expect it to be there. We wouldn’t hesitate to return if the seating was addressed as it is a really nice place.

  • "We had a lovely stay at Chevin View."

The property and gardens were a great base for our trip. The location was perfect, Belper town, train/bus station and rural walks all on the doorstep. We really enjoyed the garden at the property, which had a large lawn for the kids to play safely. The beds were incredibly comfortable and we slept well at the property. A couple of things to note, the stairs are narrow and were tricky to navigate for our less abled. Low doorways, we had a few bumps on the head. Sound travelled easily in the property, not an issue for us as a close family group, but something to be aware of. We also thought the seating in the lounge area was not comfortable for relaxing in front of the TV. The weather was good for us though, so we spent our evenings in the garden ☺️ Thanks for a lovely stay!

The cottage is beautifully furnished with all the kitchen wear, cushions and facilities you are likely to need. The bathrooms and brilliant and we loved the wood burner. The only improvement I could suggest is the single under the window has seen better days...it very squeaky and saggy! The location is perfect...so close to some stunning scenery, and the town a shirt stroll down the quaint lanes, and Belper took us by surprise. Some lovely independent ships and great eateries. We loved it! Highly recommend this cute cottage.

These shortcomings were also voiced by previous guests - parking only suitable for one car, not two as stated. Poor access to fridge freezer. Unsuitable dining table, especially with little ones in the property. Cleaning not thorough. Dirt under sofas and seats. Badly stained toilet in main bathroom. Lack of a broom, ash pan and brush. There was not a comprehensive supply of replacement bulbs. There was no comprehensive information in a folder about appliances, emergencies, I e. Smoke alarms going off . Important Contacts etc.

We appreciated the privacy of the garden, there was always some shade to be had and we were grateful for the outside table, benches & deckchairs. A great location with the friendly facilities of Belper town within easy walking distance and lots of interest close at hand in the Derwent Valley and Peak District. A problem with a leaky shower was fixed very quickly and efficiently, thanks to Sykes and the owner for that. The town of Belper is a 2 minute walk away with restaurants, bars, shops and supermarkets. The river gardens are beautiful and they have a play park, ice cream van and a play area. I would recommend the Crich tram museum, Gulivars theme park and waterworld for days out. The house is ideally located for a fun packed family holiday and the owners are lovely. The cottage is in a great location for the train station, local pubs and shops, and is surrounded by great views. Only a couple of things that I think may need to be amended is in the ensuite there is a flickering light, which can be quite irritating. Also, every evening around 10pm there was an unpleasant smell that filled the lounge and kitchen. We tried to look for the cause but couldn’t find anything to stop the smell, and so had to buy some air fresheners. Lastly the sofas in the lounge were rather uncomfortable and hard, however this is just a personal opinion. Overall, we had a wonderful holiday and are sure to visit Belper again one day in the future.

The cottage is very well equipped and tastefully decorated. One small thing however, the pillows are very thick and firm so not very comfy for sleeping on unfortunately (we ended up purchasing some softer ones), but otherwise everything was very good. Some excellent walks nearby and we enjoyed the garden which is so peaceful. Some relaxing garden chairs would be good for future guests since the weather was so warm but we improvised using cushions on the bench. Would recommend the property as a good base for exploring the surrounding area.
