"We stayed at Coupling Cottage for a week in November 2024 and it was a cosy and scenic stay."
We took our dog who loved the big back garden and local walks. The cottage's living room was lovely with the log burner and very comfortable arm chairs and sofa. Ambient lighting was nice in the evening too. The kitchen has everything you need and we made use of the washing machine too which was helpful. The cooker is a Range master which was a treat, and it cooked very well. The little dining area had a moody vibe and was good to eat and play card and board games in. Bottle of wine upon arrival was great and the hot tub was easy to use and absolutely perfection to relax in!! There's also a utility room which is useful for shoes and coats as there isn't a hallway. The train line is directly next to the cottage and trains frequently zoom past, however it wasn't a disturbance at all really. The cottage has 2 spacious rooms and the top floor is the master and the bed is 100% the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. We slept so well all week and it was decorated lovely. The best bed ever!! There is a little out house at the bottom of the garden which was a bit too cold to sit in this time of year but was fully decorated with comfy seating and a coffee table. I can imagine it's great in the summer! The cottage looks onto the mill that is a historical feature of Belper and is a grand building to look onto. The town itself has everything you need and we went to The Devonshire pub, which was absolutely gorgeous, highly recommend and dog friendly too! We visited Matlock for a day and this was a nice day out where most shops are also dog friendly. We really enjoyed Coupling Cottage, it was just what we needed and was a cosy time to come. I can imagine it's fantastic in the summer with the huge garden and hot tub too! Thanks so much. Charlotte, James and Poppy the dog.
Charlotte, James and Poppy the dog Thankyou so much for your detailed feedback!!! I am pleased that you slept so well in the main bedroom especially!! The dogs do love the big garden. Claire Property Owner

"A lovely cottage near pubs, restaurants and lovely walks ."
Hot tub and real fire helped create a lovely feeling and atmosphere. The owners were amazing and helped us with facilities. Only issue was bathroom is two floors down from the main bedroom .

"This was our first cottage that we have stayed in and it did not disappoint."
We booked it for my wife’s 40th and myself and family were overwhelmed with how homely it felt. The rooms were spotless and the garden is extremely well kept. We had a perfect sunset from the garden and relaxed it the hot tub which is in a private area. The snug at the bottom of the garden is a nice touch and my two young girls saw it as their den. The location is great and within walking distance of everything we needed. The owner kept us informed of everything and we could not recommend this any higher. Thank you again! Tom. Peterborough
Hi Tom I am pleased your Wife had a great birthday and your family enjoyed the house. Thankyou so much for your lovely review-it is much appreciated Claire Property Owner

"There is much to like about this property."
We found it to: • be generously stocked with toilet and kitchen rolls, cleaning products, and some of the other items it’s frustrating to realise you have forgotten to pack, • be well located for both local amenities and a range of Peak attractions, and • have a great and safe outdoor space. There were some areas which we felt would benefit from improvement, including: • cleanliness which was generally disappointing with, for example, a dirty fridge, cobwebs in some rooms, and an eye mask from a previous guest under the main bed, • the mattress in the master bedroom which needs turning or replacing due to broken springs, and • a need for a general refresh, including the laundry or replacement of some of the more dog-worn soft furnishings (particularly those to the seating areas), the retouching of paintwork throughout the cottage, and addressing the black mould/damp to the bathroom ceiling. The other need to know before booking is the vehicular access arrangements. The parking space is really useful and adjacent to the property, however, it is accessed via a fairly steep and narrow cobbled lane which can be difficult to navigate safely due to parked cars. The cobbles are part of a heritage site and understandably not well maintained. This has resulted in several large potholes which cannot be circumvented and therefore have the potential to take quite a toll on your car. This property is not a budget option and has the potential to be brilliant, but it needs some care and attention to make it so.
Hi Alison. Thankyou for your detailed review. The mattress has now been replaced also the soft furnishings on the armchairs- these do get stained on a regular basis due to the house being dog-friendly therefore I often renew them. In the information I provide the vehicle access is detailed. The cottage is part of the world heritage site with a cobbled road and the potholes have been reported by many people. "Lovely stay at Coupling Cottage."
Favourite parts of the stay were the hot tub (super clean, large and comfortable), the decor (really lovely) and location was good for walking into the village. Comfortable beds. Huge garden space for the dog. The local pub The Devonshire was outstanding. Least favourite parts were the noisy train track right beside the garden (although kids enjoyed watching the trains!), the cobbled bumpy narrow road to the cottage - some huge pot holes so be careful. We couldn’t use the parking space for the whole duration of our trip as someone had parked half across it - but this didn’t matter as we parked on the cobbled road. I didn’t find the sofa comfortable as you kind of sink right into it and the base cushions slide off - also too many fluffy cushions! But really that is not a big deal (personal preference) and we had a super lovely time. Thank you for the bottle of wine too. It was appreciated. Would definitely recommend this cottage.
Hi Hannah I am glad you enjoyed the cottage and would recommend it! I have removed the fluffy cushions Claire Property Owner

"We had a fabulous week in Coupling Cottage."
It contained all the amenities we could possibly want. The garden and hot tub were fantastic and that was where we spent most of our time. We had a week of no TV with two teenagers amongst our group!! The cottage is so perfectly located for access to excellent pubs/restaurants, shops and dog walks. Claire was amazing, going above and beyond when we had a break down on our journey. She went to the cottage to receive a pre-ordered shopping delivery which she also stored away for us. We would stay here again. Our only gripe is the fact that Sykes failed to share details of how to gain access to the cottage until an hour after we were there! Again, thank goodness for Claire and her quick response to messages/calls.

"What a fantastic find, this old mill workers cottage was just perfect."
It had everything we needed for our stay. The beds were super comfy and everything was nice and clean. We loved the garden space and the hot tub and spent most evenings enjoying both. The cottage is located a short work from rhe town, which had everything you needed for your stay. It's in a fab location and is a short drive from lots of local attractions and walks. Be aware its on a very bumpy cobbled street, just take it slow in your car. We loved the history of the street a d the fact it's a conservation area so the cottage had original windows and frontage. Just perfect.
Hi Kelly Thankyou for your detailed review. It really helps and I am pleased you enjoyed the history of the street- it is like going back in time! Claire Property Owner

"We had a fantastic holiday at Coupling Cotrage, the location was brilliant and the hot tub was a great bonus."
Instructions were all laid out for us, and everything you needed was supplied. The location to nearby pubs and shops was brilliant, and the food in the Devonish pub is a definite must ! Claire checked to make sure we had everything we needed, would highly recommend!
Hi Lynda I am glad you enjoyed the Cottage! Thankyou for saying you would recommend it Claire Property Owner

"We had such a lovely time!"
!! Claire was so attentive, checking up on us via messages throughout the week. The property was really clean and comfortable. Decor was lovely. It had the essentials but that’s all you really need! The ONE thing I wish I’d have known was that it’s right next to/ above a frequently used rail track. With the windows being thin you could hear the trains throughout the day and going into the night which for us was a little troubling because we are light sleepers! One of the nights we were abruptly woken up at 2.30am by people doing work on the railway- some kind of chainsaw / drills going off for about 2 hours. The reason I didn’t mark the review down a star was because I know Claire can’t control the railway! However if you’re easily woken up in the night maybe this place isn’t for you? The railway could be quite disruptive. But if you’re out like a light- you should have no problems :) I’d stay again but next time we’ll all bring earplugs!:D Thanks Claire for letting us stay in your lovely cottage
Hi Elisha I am pleased you had a lovely time and loved the cottage. Unfortunately there was nightwork on the railway when you stayed! We haven’t had any issues with the cottage being next to a railway previously. Thankyou very much for your detailed review Claire Property Owner

"Cottage was lovely."
Only two negatives we had during this trip was firstly, the code for the key box was not listed in the information. It gives you a link but that does not work therefore we had to call to contact to get this. Secondly, cleaning could have been alittle better, whilst I know it is hard, there was still alot of pet hair in the beds etc.

"Had a lovely 4 days a Coupling Cottage and enjoyed using it's facilities."
Really liked the Outside space and of course the hot tub. Our French Bulldog also settled in very quickly! Took us a while to establish where the freezer was. Obviously vehicle access is tight and the bumpy road needed some care, but nevertheless not a problem. Enjoyed the town and it's facilities. We felt no need to travel anywhere during the course of a relatively short stay.
Hi Frank I am glad you enjoyed the facilities and the hot tub. The vehicle access is tight unfortunately but obviously it is the age and character of the road and area. Belper is a bustling town with plenty of restaurants and pubs etc. Thankyou for your review Claire Property Owner

"This is our second visit to Coupling cottage."
It’s a true pleasure staying at a charming cottage in close proximity of the town of Belper. I must say it exceeded all expectations for the second time. It has recently been refurbished to a high standard with lovely and unique decor. Claire the owner has impeccable taste that shines through in every detail, from the carefully selected furnishings, and accessories which add the perfect finishing touches to all the rooms. The comfort of the sofa and bed were truly exceptional, providing a cosy retreat after a long day exploring the picturesque surrounds of the Peak District. One of the highlights of my stay was indulging in the many charming places to eat and drink all within walking distance. Also nothing beats returning to the cottage and sinking into the soothing waters of the hot tub. It was the perfect way to soothe tired muscles and unwind amidst the cottage garden. Thank you Claire for a very enjoyable holiday and for the bottle of red wine. We will be back.
Hi Susan I am pleased you liked the decor and furnishings! Thankyou for returning to the cottage a second time and Thankyou very much for the review. Claire Property Owner

"Coupling Cottage is the perfect base for exploring the area, so close to town, whilst being comfortable and completely private!"
The decor is fantastic and the paintings by Claire the owner dotted around show why, she has a fantastic eye! We loved the log burner, the sofa is comfortable (unlike most places we have stayed in!) the bed is very comfortable too. The garden is huge and the hot tub a lovely, private place to unwind after a long walk. We recommend making the 3-4 mile walk (can get bus too) to nearby Makeney, to The Holly Bush Inn - a traditional 17th century Inn - with fantastic food and great beers! It’s won awards and we see why! There a lots of cafes, pubs and restaurants in town too! The Devonshire, as others have said is a good one. Everything is dog friendly which is fabulous! There a lots of lovely walks from the doorstep and it really felt like stepping back in time. The cobbled street and history of the cottages on the street is fascinating too. Thank you Claire
Charlotte I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay at the cottage. It is like going back in time - Thankyou for the lovely feedback Property Owner

"What a lovely cottage, we really enjoyed our stay and would certainly recommend to family and friends."
Great communication, lovely garden and hot tub, clean and had everything we needed. My recommendations - please replace the frying pans. There was 2 and they both stick, fried eggs at breakfast were a bit of a disaster and even the bacon and sausage stuck. I and my husband slept in the single beds and we both struggled with the hardness of the pillows. It’s a personal preference and difficult to cater for everyone’s taste but thought I’d mention it, I didn’t have a good night sleep out of all three nights. The parking is a bit of a nightmare and anyone who struggles with parking and reversing a car in very limited space will really struggle. These really are just recommendations from our view and certainly would not stop us from rebooking - I would bring my own pillow next time. Thank you for the wine and biscuits.
Wendy Thankyou for the feedback. I have bought new pillows and frying pans now! I am glad you enjoyed the cottage Claire Property Owner

"The cottage has been beautifully done out, great attention to detail."
The main bedroom is amazing with its "princess" bed. Claire the host was friendly and helpful, especially as we were there during Storm Pia! Lovely hot tub to soak away the days walking, garden is lovely although we didn't use it much in December! It may be worth noting that the property is right next to a busy train line in the listing. It didn't bother us much but some may find it noisy. We will definitely return in the future
Thankyou Lucy for the lovely feedback! I am glad you enjoyed it Claire Property Owner

"This cottage looks as it did on the website and would have been a dream stay - sadly we had multiple issues which meant we couldn’t enjoy our stay as hoped."
I did report all the issues and trust that the lovely owner had no idea about them but I cannot give the feedback I’d planned. Had to buy items to use the hot tub area as their exterior lights kept tripping I had a very nasty fall trying to resolve the issues as I was completely in the dark. I feel for the next guests as the owners could not get the work booked due to it being a busy time of year. Our shower also was a huge disappointment it leaked out of the back all over the tiles onto the floor - owners did come and quickly try to fix but this issue returned. Be aware of the slippery decking ( winter time) The cottage was beautiful and Claire has excellent taste it was idealic in that respect. The area is beautiful and the cottage its self is in a great location with everything in walking distance- super friendly locals. The kitchen is modern in design but be aware not great for food storage if you plan to eat in all the time. Front room is so cosy the fact they had decorated for Christmas was a lovely gesture. Sadly when we arrived the Prosecco & Chocolates all previous guests had raved about where not there. Claire did apologise and we did get a bottle of Buck’s Fizz and some wine, however it did feel a bit of a let down especially given we had to report so many issues. I want to leave a review that doesn’t just highlight the low points but ends on a positive. Claire and her Husband really did try to assist with the issues at the cottage sadly we were just unlucky that no one had reported them in time for our stay. Fantastic little home away from home once the hot tub area gets some well needed attention and safety improvements. It was frustrating having to fork out money on top of the week’s rent in order to be able to use the hot tub and enjoy it. We have left the owners our feedback privately. All in all stunting place - great location too many great pubs and places to eat - that we decided not to cook in the cottage as planned but treat ourselves ‘Nourish’ the Devonshire and the Chinese at the bottom of the road to cottage are all excellent. The owners put a lot of effort into the decoration of the place and did provide us with additional wood as a peace offering.

"A beautiful week away for our mini-moon."
Cottage had everything you could need and the hot tub was a bonus for the cold evenings. Plenty of places to eat and a good central location for everything you would need. Bed was very comfy. Winnie the Frenchie also had a very nice time and her favourite place was next to the fire in the evenings.
Hi Samantha Thankyou very much for the lovely feedback. I am pleased you had everything you needed. Claire Property Owner

"Beautiful property with an enclosed garden which meant we didn’t need to worry about the dogs wondering away."
The hot tub was a great additional feature where we could relax in the morning and evening. The property owner was easy to contact if I had any queries and responded promptly. We all slept well each night and there are nice walks close enough to go on. We went to a number of bars near the property and the thai restaurant just at the bottom of the street, also the gastro pub close to that did very tasty food. Would recommend for anyone who wants to have a relaxing time away with good food and nice walks to go on.

"This was the 3rd visit to this beautiful cottage in a fantastic location."
The accommodation is clean, comfortable and decorated so beautifully. The garden is huge and hot tub is a brilliant addition. It is all enclosed, perfect for having a dog. The location of the property is fantastic. It is just off the A6 handy for Matlock, Chatsworth and the Peak District. We will definitely be visiting again.

"The decor was lovely and had everything we needed."
Would have been nice to have milk on arrival as well as teabags etc Kitchen cleanliness wasn’t great - a hair in the fridge, fridge needed a deeper clean, toaster needed a clean, kettle lid broken and I had to re wash some of the cutlery or Crockery before use. The towels didn’t feel overly freshly washed as well,
Hi Rebecca, the tea bags, etc are in the top cupboard. I will review my joining instructions to make sure it is clearer. Sorry I wasn’t aware of the broken kettle lid and if you had let me know when I checked how you were I would have changed immediately. Thanks for your constructive feedback which I will act upon to make sure the experience is better for others Claire Property Owner

"Lovely cottage."
Warm and bed was comfy. Parking not the best. Easy access into town. Claire was super helpful as the boiler broke and we delayed start of our holiday while it was replaced. Garden was a major bonus. Think it could be clearer bathroom is on ground floor which for more than one couple would not be great.

"Have just stayed one month at coupling cottage, the cottage is lovely, nice big garden fully enclosed for the dogs."
It is next to the train line but got used to them going past. The road to the cottage is very uneven cobbles but take it careful and it’s fine, it feels like you are back going back in time. Claire the owner was very nice, couldn’t do enough for you brought us extra logs for the fire, showed me how to maintain the hot tub which was amazing. The cottage has everything you need. Belper is a lovely little town plenty of shops and great places to eat. Thank you Claire we had a lovely stay.

"We spent 7 nights at Coupling Cottage in mid December, on arrival the street was as described very narrow and coble stoned."
The trick is to park diagonally in the designated spot next to the property then you'll have room to not obstruct the road. The cottage itself was lovely, clean, tidy and had a lovely feel about it. Everything was as described, once we'd worked out how to fire the heating up we were good to go. We visited the highstreet on the Sunday for the Christmas fair and also had Sunday dinner at the Devonshire which is great for food or just a quick pint. Most days we didn't rush about, jump in the hot tub and then went for walks into town or on a trail, there's a Morrisons and Aldi in town so plenty of choice. We grabbed a train to Matlock on one of the days which was good for a wander and bite to eat too. All in all a lovely place to stay, we've stayed at many AirBnB's and cottage hires and this was one of our favourites!
Hi James Thankyou very much for your detailed review. I am pleased you had a relaxing time and liked Coupling Cottage and would recommend it. Claire Property Owner

"Good stay. Tasteful decor."
Great garden. Great hot tub. Constructive feedback = would like choice of two pillows in the single beds please. The ones there were far too flat. One bed very very squeaky and needs looking at! There were stains on some sheets. I understand some stains don’t come out in the wash, but when it’s your own and you know what they are it’s not that bad. However for guests…I would just bin them. Not nice not knowing what it is or where it’s come from! Couldn’t work heating first night no instructions left (it came on at about 30 degrees in middle of night) managed to work it out next day.
I have now put two different pillows on each bed, one memory foam and one normal. Some stains must have stayed on the bedding, I will throw out the offending sheets. Thank you for bringing these issues to my attention. Property Owner

"We had a wonderful stay at Coupling Cottage."
The cottage itself is very pretty and it is well equipped. The beds are comfortable and it was very cosy. Fuel was included for the log burner which was such a treat. The garden is beautiful - fully enclosed for the dogs and spacious with a choice of seating areas. The hot tub was nice after a long day walking but smelt very strongly of the chemicals used in it and it was very, very foamy when used. There are some lovely walks from the cottage itself and lots to see and do in the surrounding area. Plenty of places to eat in Belper - we were spoilt for choice! We had an issue with the shower but the owner Claire was fabulous and a new shower was promptly fitted. Fabulous service! The street is cobbled and very narrow - I wouldn’t like to navigate it with a large car. Parking was explained in the information provided though. Our only other issue was a smell of damp in the utility room at times, particularly from the dishwasher but it certainly didn’t put us off the cottage. A lovely place to stay and we’d definitely recommend it.
-
"This was our second stay at Coupling Cottage."
It is a beautiful property with a wonderful, enclosed garden. It is perfect for getting away and just relaxing, using the hot tub or for using as a base to explore Derbyshire. We will definitely be back

The garden is fantastic, I think the fact the toilet is downstairs should be mentioned considering the bedrooms are over two floors and the acess road is bad so should maybe warn people about that too but overall a lovely place to stay

"Beautiful, well equipped cottage."
Hot tub was great and super clean. Lots to do in Belper and the cottage is in a great location for everything. The owner is great and sorted out a small issue we had with the back door within minutes! Only small thing I would say is that the previous occupants hadn’t cleaned up after their dog, so we did have to spend a bit of time ‘clearing’ the garden of poop
Thankyou for your Comments! I have to apologise for the Dog poop as I didn’t see it Property Owner

"Very well presented cottage with everything we needed to explore the Peak District during a short 3 night stay."
Close to town centre and supermarkets and a short drive to other areas to go walking with our dog.
-
"Very well Equipped house, we had a perfect stay making memories in the big garden/hot tub."
We only stayed in the house the whole weekend we didn’t explore so we don’t know much about the area but the kids loved that the railway was right next to us!

"We stayed Sunday 5th to Thursday 9th of May 2022."
This is a lovely cottage in a great location. Once parked up we left the car and used the train to get to places to Visit like the Cromford Canal and Heights of Abraham. Having the hot tub was brilliant after a long day walking to help you relax in the evenings. We only ate out twice during the stay once at the Devonshire which is dog friendly and then take away fish n chips. The property is very clean and everything is in great condition with a fully stocked kitchen etc. We would stay again and have already recommended to a family member.
-
"The cottage is perfect as a base."
It is done out perfectly alongside the railways and is a great link to years gone by. The facilities are great. Huge enclosed garden which our dogs loved, the seating areas in the garden are great, the hot tub is superb. Belper is a great little town with lots of shops, restaurants and pubs. There are lots of great walks and interesting towns and places right on the doorstep.
-
"Really lovely, relaxing stay at Coupling Cottage."
Beautiful setting, lots of places to visit nearby. A steam engine passing at the bottom of the garden is a treat, if you look up the timetable. A problem with the garden lights was quickly resolved. The cobbled road is a bit tricky to drive on and parking is tight but that adds to the character of the place. Highly recommend. Thanks.
-
"The cottage is gorgeous - while it is in Belper centre it feels out in the country (partly because the open aspect at the back)."
It is beautifully and comfortably furnished. The road is a little out of the ordinary - very uneven cobbles - but fine if you access from top of the hill and take it slowly. The hot tub was lovely - and very clean. We visited in March on an weekend that was not too warm but it was lovely to sit out in the tub - a bit of luxury. We did take our own towels for use outside but there were plenty supplied had we not. The garden was pretty and the passing trains a) did not disturb us when inside and b) were an interesting feature when outside. Area is lovely and not too far from things we wanted to do in Peak District - walks, cycling etc. Matlock Bath had a weird 'seaside town' vibe which was fun for a bit of something different (and very good chips). We were left a little welcome in the cottage - some fizz and chocs - which was a lovely touch also (although obvs can't say if that is always the case) Only issues were a) no firelighters - an accident as the packet was there - the hosts hadn't realised it was empty - easily solved by using a bit of cardboard on first night and a quick trip to the Co-op b) the oven door is very difficult to close c) the fridge door needs some attention - it tends to open and then ended up with the fridge working too hard and freezing some of our salad leaves If these last two items were fixed this would be the perfect getaway. We will be back (my grown up kids are talking about Christmas in Belper!).

"Beautiful cottage with lovely decor, fully equipped with every possible thing you will need for your stay."
The cottage makes a great base to not only visit Belper but walking to nearby Duffield and Milford while Bakewell,Matlock, Matlock Bath and INTU at Derby are only a few miles down the road.

"We are just back from a one week stay at The Coupling Cottage in Belper and wanted to add some comments to help future guests."
We chose to stay here due to its proximity to the Peak District and in that respect the location was first class. Bakewell, Chatsworth, Matlock all within a short drive. A lot has been said about the street and parking, it's true the street is very narrow and requires serious care when accessing, although the parking is sufficient, we have an estate and we able to park right next to property. We were blessed with fantastic weather during our stay and both the garden / hot-tub were heavily utilised. A busy train line runs to the side of the garden but that didn't cause us any concern or bother, we actually quite liked it. Our small dog loved the large garden. The house was well equipped and provided everything we needed for cooking etc. I would tend to agree with other reviews questioning the cleanliness of the accommodation, whilst we appreciate the cottage is old, it is very tired and in need of a freshen up / deep clean. The walls are marked throughout the property, a combination of scuffs and damp and a number of cobwebs hang from the corner of the rooms and window sills. We noticed the property had a musty damp smell throughout. The owner was lovely, very friendly and kept in touch throughout our stay to make sure everything was ok. Overall we enjoyed our stay, although my wife and I both felt the cottage is tired and in need of some TLC and a deep clean. P.s. for those that don't like spiders (my wife) be prepared to face your fears. This is perfectly natural for a property of this age and given time of the year. The house is certainly perfect haven for our 8 legged friends.
I am pleased you enjoyed your stay. The cottage is old and characterful. We have now re-plastered and painted. Unfortunately although we dust away cobwebs with each weekly clean they do reappear every few days in these cottages. Property Owner

"Claire our host took our booking on the day we were supposed to be going to another property in Wales-unfortunately that owner had double booked(not Sykes’s fault seems she decided to take cash bookings!"
!) Anyway as our car was packed literally ready to leave we were left with no where to go! step in Lisa at Sykes and the wonderful Claire. It was so much more than we could have hoped-based within a ten minute walk to Belper centre and only five minutes to a lovely dog friendly park the property is in a great location. The cottage is full of character and also bang upto date in many ways. We would happily recommend and also book again. Thanks again Claire you were an absolute star

"Pros - large comfy bed, washing machine, dishwasher, wonderful large garden, good oven, lovely wood burner (basket of wood provided), nice location with great pubs and takeaways (Chinese, Indian, fish and chips, the Devonshire pub)."
Belper River Gardens a very short walk away with boats available for hire and a nice play park for children. Friendly neighbours and the host text to see if we were ok. Easy to boost the heating if needed. Good shower. The hot tub was very relaxing and we spent most of our time in it. Nice selection of games available. Good blackout blinds in the bedrooms. Cons - the main issues are the parking, the trains and the cleanliness, as others have pointed out. The house is very old and requires some TLC, a lick of paint and some re-plastering, etc. It is on an extremely narrow, long cobbled street, which really makes your car bounce around. There is a parking space next to the house which we were glad of as I wouldn’t have wanted to parallel park on the street! We just about got our Citroen Picasso in the space - you’ll need to go to the top of the road and turn round to get into the space, as it’s extremely tight and reversing into it isn’t an option. If you aren’t a confident driver or have anything larger than a Picasso, you will hate it. The train line is right next to the house and the trains are very frequent and loud. As the house is so old, the windows rattle and house shakes a bit as they come past. They run all night, with long (presumably) freight trains at about 2am and 4am which woke us up all week. The garden room is empty apart from a couple of spare cushions so it’s not usable as per the photos. Shame as something good could be done with the space - table football/small pool table perhaps? The beds, kitchen worktops and bathroom were all fairly clean when we arrived, but the floors/sofas etc had quite a dog hair problem. Although we didn’t take a dog with us, over the course of the week the dog hairs became more and more apparent - they seemed to be multiplying! I was very glad we all had slippers as I wouldn’t have wanted to walk around barefoot anywhere. I even had to fish out large clumps of hair from the hot tub. This place just needs a real deep clean between each booking, but I appreciate it is difficult when dogs are allowed. The handheld hoover provided didn’t pick up much, despite my best efforts. Upon arrival the doggy smell was very strong in the living room - we tried to air it out as best we could over the week and did get used to the smell fairly quickly. A small point- the kitchen needs a pizza cutter, more chopping boards and some oven gloves, and be aware that there isn’t much cupboard space for any food you take. Everything else is there in terms of plates, glasses, mugs, cutlery, washing up liquid, etc. The mural in the kitchen is great and the paintings around the house are beautiful. All in all we had a relaxing break, solely down to the hot tub really. Unfortunately I personally wouldn’t return, but if you have dogs then you might absolutely love it.
I am sorry that you will not be returning but I thank you for the feedback as we believe listening and acting will provide a better holiday experience for future people visiting Coupling Cottage. I have checked that our marketing is correct and it does state that the house is very old and dates back to the 1790s and is located on an extremely narrow, long cobbled street – we recognise that for some people this is a feature whereas others prefer more modern. There is a parking space next to the house which is for a small car but parked at an angle can accommodate a larger car; we have an agreement with the neighbours that large cars should park at an angle and we will update our guidance pack to make this more clear. The train line is next to the house and is outlined in the marketing brief and we position as a feature rather than a liability – we have also named the cottage with a railway connotation to make this crystal clear. The garden room is empty as previous occupiers advised moving the furniture onto the decking to take advantage of the summer weather. We will action your guidance and re-populate the garden room with furniture. This is a dog friendly house and although it is hoovered, moped and wiped every week some hairs will always prevail. We recognise that our flooring in the lounge can gather dog hairs and we are investigating alternatives and plan to action late autumn / early winter. The kitchen now has a pizza cutter, 3 more chopping boards and oven gloves. Property Owner

"We enjoyed our stay here immensely."
The cottage was perfect for the different needs of our party. Ourselves, two children, aged 20 and 15 and two dogs.We spent more time in the garden than in the cottage, even sitting outside at night, wrapped in one of the many throws and blankets provided, as the garden is spacious, and has lovely views. I'd booked a delivery from Morrisons for the night of our arrival, which was a great help, and ensured we had all the basics in stock. The neighbours were very friendly, the street is beautiful, and we loved it's history. I'm presuming the artwork in the cottage is done by the owner; this was a lovely touch. Nice to have a dishwasher, but the view from the kitchen made any task much less of a chore. We all enjoyed the hot tub, especially after being drenched walking the dogs around Buxton, whilst the kids were at Go Ape.We visited The Devonshire, as recommended. Fantastically dog friendly, large choice on the menu, and so good we returned a second time. Lovely lady in charge there, whose hosting skills are unsurpassed. The only problem we had with Coupling Cottage is that we hated leaving it, wishing we had booked two weeks instead of one. Belper has loads to offer, without the problems of more traditional tourist hot-spots. I've already set an alert on Rigtmove...

"Excellent cottage."
Loved the fantastic hot tub especially

"The cottage was lovely!"
Very characterful and quirky! Loved the enclosed garden. The surrounding neighbours were very friendly, there is a designated parking space for the property although someone used it for the 1st 2 days of our stay but we parked opposite the property above the railway with no issues! There is a large freezer which was fab, previous reviews said there wasn't one (it's located in kitchen opposite the fridge it's a small square chest freezer in the cupboard with the boiler) The owner was very helpful as my daughter left a bag with art supplies in on of the bedside cabinets which she's in the process of posting back to us, which I greatly appreciate, so a huge thank you for that! The only things I could fault was the cleanliness in places was not the best, the bath mat was damp and stunk, it went straight in the wash.....mirrors need a proper clean and polish and the black mould all over the walls in the bathroom needs addressed. Also note there was no seating in the outdoor hut as the furniture you see in the pictures is used on the decking outside so it was empty..... On the whole we enjoyed our stay in coupling cottage!

"Cottage had good facilities with the hot tub and garden."
Be aware the cottage is a very narrow lane and parking can be difficult if you have a large car. Level of cleanliness was not very good. I had to clean all the fridge out. There was dog hairs on floor that became apparent over the stay

"We loved the area and the people are very friendly, as we had our wee dog with us we did not know how many establishments would let our dog in, we were very pleased with what we found our dog was welcome everywhere."
We had a Chinese and a Thai carryout food was amazing, we also had lunch and evening meal in the Devonshire Inn the food in this establishment if fantastic, especially the soft crab and possibly the best hand made chips ever. :)

"Coupling house was a beautiful old house over 3 floors - we were 4 females staying 3 nights."
The weather was fabulous so we made great use of the garden furniture and hot tub, in fact we sat outside for the whole weekend! We ate out at Armando’s (Italian) had takeaway from Elaichi ( Bangladesh) and a Sunday dinner at the Devonshire - would recommend them all ! The beds were very comfy with good quality bedding , the bathroom is unfortunately on the ground floor so a bit of trek from the top bedroom but didn’t put us off …only thing we couldn’t find was a freezer? Would definitely benefit from a small fridge / freezer or small freezer chest as we had no where to put ice for our drinks or ice lollies we bought ( without realising there wasn’t one ). Parking was tight down the cobbled lane but we all managed find spaces no problem … overall fantastic house , the neighbours were very friendly and welcoming.. would definitely stay again and would recommend for a small weekend gathering .

"We had the perfect stay at Coupling Cottage."
It is like a home from home equipped with everything you need, but with added extras such as the hot tub. Our dog absolutely loved the huge garden and we would definitely love to come. Perfect base for exploring the Peak District and coming back to have somewhere to relax. Proximity to high street is also fab and there are some lovely independent shops/cafes to explore. The parking space and street in general can be very narrow depending how busy it is, we were fine in our smallish hatchback but if you have a large car I’d explore the other parking options nearby.

The cottage and location met our expectations but it was dirty due to a lack of cleaning: - Cobwebs on windows containing dead flies and spiders - Ear plugs found on the rug in the top bedroom - Lots of dust under the beds - Smears on glass - Kitchen utensils dirty including cheese on the cheese grate from a previous occupant - Discarded rubbish [balloon] located in a corner

Don't know if I missed it but it was a downstairs bathroom which wasn 't ideal - could do with some champagne glasses and a freezer, there wasn't even an ice box in the fridge
Hi Jayne I am sorry there were no champagne flutes. The cottage is 1790s so the bathrooms are all downstairs unfortunately. We have only had the property a short while and are now buying a freezer. Many thanks for your feedback. Claire. Property Owner

"Beautiful holiday."
The cottage was amazing and perfect for our mini honey moon, the host was amazing and so friendly, she even organised a little surprise for us as we came straight from our wedding. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back.

"We had a wonderful break at Coupling Cottage."
The cottage is gorgeous and has many extra luxuries to make your stay even more enjoyable. The huge garden was a hit with our dog, he didn't want to leave and neither did we!

"This cottage is definitely worth the stay!"
Beautiful place! Decor is lovely, very comfortable. The back garden was perfect for us! So secure for our dogs and big! We loved staying here and would definitely stay again!

"Fabulous cottage, next to train line but that didn't disturb us at all which was great."
Only minor issue was the parking space was too small for our car, but there is a free car park at the top of the town less than 10 minutes walk away. May well be back soon.
