  • "The cottage is lovely!"

Everything you need for a few days away. As a family of 4 with a dog we really enjoyed our stay. The village of Winster is stunning and so peaceful to just walk round and explore. Tom the owner sent all information through and messaged during the stay to check we were settled. The one thing that was missing, particularly as Autumn approaches is a fire. It's been taken out so drying clothes, even on the maiden was tricky. There are lots of blankets to snuggle up in so it's warm and cosy... just the drying of clothes was tricky. There's ample hot water and the cottage is well stocked with everything you could need ! We loved the cottage and would definitely book again.

  • "Lovely cottage, clean and tidy with all the basics you need for a short stay."

Surrounded by many nice countryside walks. 15 mins drive to Sainsbury's. The only down side is the garden that you need to get out of the front door, walk up 4 steps and a steep little path. Not ideal with our dogs and don't feel private, but it's simply a personal preference. Would recommend it to anyone who would like a peaceful stay.

  • "This was a perfect cottage for the two of us and our two dogs."

The patio and garden are a lovely additional space, but due to the weather we were only able to use it on the day of our arrival. The owner was very responsive for any issues you needed help with, which is always good to know. The village itself is really quaint, and full of older properties, with lots of little lanes to investigate. The abundance of flowers everywhere, it was very pretty indeed. We love this part of Derebyshire and know we will be returning.

  • "Really lovely cottage in a lovely picturesque village."

Really comfy bed and so quiet that we slept well. Weather was quite rainy but loved snuggling in the lounge. Also great views of the surrounding countryside from bedroom window. Local shop is a great resource. Both pubs nice and friendly, though the Old Bowling Green had limited opening hours (Thurs-Sun). Would recommend the cottage with no hesitation :)

  • "The property is situated in a stunning part of Derbyshire with some great walks nearby and a friendly local community."

Parking as mentioned is at a premium, however, is available around 5 minutes away, be aware though you are unlikely to be able to park near the property. The garden is accessed via a communal courtyard via some steep steps and slope, which are slippery when wet. The grass had not been cut, and the patio furniture on the decking was dirty and tired. The property itself was not the cleanest, with the kitchen requiring a good clean before use, it was clear that nothing had been moved to clean under for some time. On arrival made a cup of tea and found the biscuits and UHT milk pots left were out of date and had gone off (Milk BB -19/03/2023), The lounge was missing its fireplace and had an open chimney that made the room smell continuously of soot, again cleaning behind the TV and radiators were not great. Overall, a pleasant enough stay, but for us, would not return to this particular property.

Hi David - thank you for your feedback and I am sorry that the cottage fell short of your expectations. There are some very useful pointers for improvements to be made with the cleaning team - and a more urgent call with the builder to come and sort out the fireplace! Thank you. Tom Property Owner

Car parking and unloading wasn’t a problem at all.

  • "We had a lovely stay at East Bank Cottage."

Owner contacted us directly with directions to the cottage, which was very helpful including where to park. Access to the cottage is up a few steps with front door away from the road (very quiet) and the garden off to the side of the front door. The cottage is lovely and quaint - we loved the traditional style. Bedrooms are spacious: the beds were all comfortable and furniture are all of good wooden quality. Bathroom was very nice and big. Kitchen was equipped with essentials, plus supply of washing up items, washing powder/pegs, and rubbish bags. We also had tea/coffee/milk/biscuits and treats for our dog to welcome us. Overall, we had a lovely stay. Thank you. Winster is a lovely village, with a local shop and a couple of pubs within short walking distance. The food at Miners Standard was very nice. Our dog enjoyed the walks around the village with large fields for him to runaround.

  • "We had a lovely time in the cottage and in the village too."

People were very friendly and helpful. There were 2 nice walks from the village itself, much appreciated by out 2 collie dogs!

Hi Sandra - delighted to hear that you had such a good time. Winster certainly is a friendly village! Hope to have you as guests again. Tom Property Owner

  • "The property is a quaint old cottage that makes the best of what it is, in a nice picturesque village."

The property was very dusty/gritty - not sure if it had been cleaned (properly). Certain things were missing - loo roll about to run out & no replacement! The plates, glasses, cutlery, etc all needed rewashing - not sure if they had been washed or just rinsed & put back. Beware the bathroom floor - the shower leaks and the tiles are then like ice when wet

Thank you very much for your feedback for the cottage. We would hope all the guests would call us immediately with any issues so we can get them rectified swiftly and safely for our guests. The housekeeper has been to the property and can confirm the bathroom leak has been resolved. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage in a great location."

A beautiful village with excellent local shop and good walks all around. The cottage had all we needed. My only comment would be to say that the stairs need some care as they are very steep and may be challenging for some people.

  • "A lovely cottage in a great convenient location."

We enjoyed walks around Winster and a good meal in the local pub. The owners were fab- with fast communication. Kids loved having a room where the twin beds were not super close to each other and my very tall husband (6 foot 7) enjoyed his first bath in years due to the very generous bath/ bathroom. We were able to unload our belongings in minutes and then parked the car just up the hill (a mere few mins walk away). Would definitely recommend. Great hosts!! Thank you.

  • "I think it should be better listed about the parking."

Or lack of it. We had all four types slightly let down on the Friday evening and on Sunday evening the diesel cap opened which should not open as car was locked. I think. For the amount the cottage costs there should be better parking facilities.

Hi Joanne - Thank you for taking the time to supply feedback. I am sorry to hear that your stay was not entirely satisfactory. I have updated our listing to make the parking situation clearer. Winster is a very charming and quaint village but one that was built to house Victorian lead miners so parking was probably not high on their agenda! Disappointed that you think that you car might have been tampered with as we have always found the village be to be generally quiet and peaceful. I hope you enjoyed the other aspects of your stay. About the location

WINSTER

Bakewell 6 miles; Matlock 4.5 miles.

The conservation village of Winster is situated within the White Peak area of the Peak District National Park and is an extremely pretty place, with a charming 17th century market house at its centre, and other imposing 17th and 18th century houses, many three storeys high. The three main streets - Main Street, East Bank and West Bank are interconnected by alleyways known as ‘ginnels’, which are well worth exploring. The village of Winster is famous for its Morris dancers, the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race, Wakes festivities in June, and the Secret Gardens of Winster event in July. Within the village there is a well-stocked, community-owned general store incorporating a Post Office. There are two pubs, both serving food and traditional beer. Bakewell, Matlock, Chatsworth House, and the Peak Rail Steam Railway are all nearby and, for keen walkers and cyclists, The Limestone Way runs along the edge of the village. The Tissington and High Peaks walking and cycling trails, with bike hire available, both lie less than 5 miles from the village, a wonderful base for exploring the Peak District.
