Hello Deborah, Thank you for taking the the time to provide feedback regarding your stay, and I'm glad you enjoyed walking in the local area. I am sorry that you found the cottage to be difficult to locate, I would be grateful if you would please contact me and let me know how you think the "Travelling to the Property" instructions on the email you received could be improved to have helped you, as I haven't had a lot of trouble with other guests not being able to find the cottage, and the instructions do explain how to find the narrow lane the cottage is located down. I did call and text you before your arrival and my telephone number is provided to you along with the arrival email from Sykes, and I said in my text, you would have been welcome to call me for any help. I am glad you otherwise enjoyed your stay at the cottage. Best wishes, Kate Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely, relaxing week at 33 Main Road."

The cottage was beautifully decorated, clean and really well-equipped with everything we could ever need and more besides. The owner contacted us before arrival and left some treats for us to enjoy. It was cosy even during the cold snap. While there isn't parking available outside the cottage, we were able to park close by at the end of the lane every evening.

Dear Anneka, I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay at the cottage and were cosy and warm despite the cold weather, and I'm pleased you found it to be well equipped and clean. Best wishes, Kate Property Owner

  • "This was definitely the best holiday accommodation I’ve ever had and I would gladly return in the future."

I felt instantly at home and enjoyed my week enormously. The cottage is well-equipped, has everything one could possibly need and the thought and the care which has been invested is phenomenal. It is often the little details that make places special and that certainly applies here. I imagine that dog owners will be particularly impressed with what is there to make their pets’ stay comfortable, too.

Hi Mary, I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay at the cottage. I'm glad you felt so at home there and found the cottage was well equipped for you. It was lovely to meet you - I hope you enjoyed the rest of your travels, and of course you would be very welcome to stay again. Best wishes, Kate Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful stay in this lovely cottage set in a quiet location in the pretty hamlet of Higham."

I’ve stayed in many rental properties and this rates amongst the very best; a real home from home feel, spotlessly clean, cosy and extremely well-equipped. Super dog-friendly with a comfy bed, toys, bowls, treats and a nice enclosed garden. The host, Kate, is generous (plenty of welcome treats on arrival), very responsive to queries and helpful. The attention to detail throughout the property is amazing. Thank you Kate for a wonderful stay. Hope to be back soon!

Hi Lorraine, Thank you for taking the time to provide a review. I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay there and thank you for your lovely comments about the cottage. You would of course be very welcome to come stay again. Best wishes, Kate Property Owner

The cottage is well equipped and ideally situated, great dog walk opposite the Greyhound Pub. The neighbours were friendly and the owner went above and beyond to ensure our stay was hassle free and provided lots of useful recommendations for places to eat and visit. We had two large German Shepherds staying with us and they were very comfortable, they loved the huge dog bed in the lounge. I would definitely recommend staying here if you are looking to explore Derbyshire and the peaks.

Hi Sara, Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your stay at the cottage. I'm so glad you all enjoyed your time away together, and thank you for your kind comments. I am pleased your beautiful dogs enjoyed the dog bed and their time away too. Best wishes, Kate Property Owner

  • "Nice cottage, well equipped and beautifully positioned for the Amber Valley."

The cottage has a lovely historic staircase but if you have any mobility issues it may be challenging. The cottage could do with less instruction notices, they are everywhere which is a bit intrusive and spoils the feel of the place perhaps asking people to leave the cottage as you find it should be enough!! The garden is behind the cottage so no outside seating (apart from at the front which was a bit over looked). Neighbours were really friendly though (and have five cats which may be an issue if you have a cat hating dog!). It’s a lovely cottage and Kate has thought of everything to make your stay very comfortable.

Hi Katy, Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your time at the cottage. I’m so pleased you all enjoyed your time away and found the cottage to be lovely and well equipped. The listing on Sykes does inform guests that the stairs are steep and narrow prior to their booking and are unfortunately not suitable for those with limited mobility so hopefully this prevents guests from booking who may find this to be an issue for them. I’m pleased you were able to navigate them and found them to have an interesting history! As the cottage is a single layer of sandstone build in the early 1800s, it needs to be well ventilated to prevent damp and mould issues on the exposed stone walls, stone shower floor and the mullioned windows, particularly in winter weather. Brief ventilation during changeovers is not sufficient to prevent these issues. I can only apologise that you found the housekeeping and ventilation related requests to be intrusive and spoiled the feeling of the cottage for you, but ultimately the property is a holiday let, and I have a responsibility to make sure that the cottage remains a pleasant, comfortable and safe place for future guests too. This seems to have been the most successful way of ensuring that the cottage is looked after by guests during their holiday, as historic homes often need additional care compared to a more modern property. • "This is such a beautiful cottage."

Kate has thought of everything from providing all you need for your dog, treats, poo bags and a huge amazing dog bed. The cottage is well equipped and some essentials are provided in case you forget anything. The neighbours are lovely and very helpful. The only negative is not being able to park at the door and having to carry all your luggage from the main road.

Hello Carolyn, Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your time at the cottage. Thank you for your kind comments, I'm so pleased you found it was well equipped and you had everything you needed for your dog too. The property is advertised as having roadside parking available on the Main Road approximately 40m away from the cottage, so guests should be aware of the parking arrangements prior to booking to stay at the cottage. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. Best wishes, Kate Property Owner

  • "Lovely holiday cottages."

The owner left us flowers, biscuits, wine and toffees for when we arrived. There was everything we required in the cottage, even a lovely big bed, treats and poo bags for the dog. I forgot to bring coffee but there was some in the cupboard. The cottage is in a lovely village and quite central for places to visit. There is a lovely dog walk a little way from the cottage, which has lovely views. The owner has left lots of leaflets and books outlining various places of interest nearby. There also lots of books and games in the cottage to entertain guests in the evening after a long day out. The Greyhound pub is close by and very dog friendly. We had to leave early because of the terrible weather, which was a shame, just have to come back again. Angela and Ian

The house is beautiful and comfortable. You have everything you need provided. Theres plenty to see and do and the walks were great. The only thing that I was wary of is the stairs are very creaky and I walked down them sideways. You also cannot park your car outside the property you have to park on the main road.

Everything and more was provided for them! We booked a last minute stay away and we certainly chose the right property. We were the second guests to stay however you wouldn’t have known that. Kate, the owner was more than informative prior to the stay and even during our stay provided more than enough walks for our dogs. The property was more than well equipped for the stay, perfect for a family and plenty of room.

  • "We had a wonderful Christmas stay at this superb cottage."

From the moment we stepped inside, we found everything needed for a great holiday had been anticipated. The cottage was spotlessly clean, and the owners had left a welcome tray, with wine/beer, biscuits and sweets, plus fresh milk in the fridge. The kichen is extremely well equipped with a great range of dining and cookware and cosy underfloor heating morning and night. The living room was a lovely retreat at the end of the day and the clear instructions for the wood-burning stove worked very well. The bedrooms were cosy and comfortable, including the sofa-bed in the snug. We noticed lots of thoughtful touches, like torches and toothbrush chargers in the bedside drawers, a basket of dog towels and dog waterbowl/toys and treats in the hall. Also games and mini juggling balls in the snug and local books in the living room. The juggling balls got more use than some of our Christmas presents! We enjoyed a short walk to the local pub and another for a couple of hours down by the river. The cottage is set in a conservation area, not far from the Peak District, though this seems quite an under-rated part of Derbyshire and lots to explore nearby. Parking is on the road, so be prepared to carry luggage down a short shared driveway, but this is clear before booking and we didn't find it a problem. Our overwhelming impression was that the owners want people to really enjoy this cottage and the local area during their stay and we certainly did!
