  • "Had a really lovely stay at Beech House over 10 nights."

Being 4 bedrooms meant we were able ti have a room each! The 4th bedroom is really more for children with L shaped bunks but my sister was happy to have this and have her own room. The large family bathroom was only next door. Having 4 bathrooms was something we’ve not experienced before! We loved all the outside areas to sit - would be nice to return in the summer months to make the most of them. But there 2 conservatories to enjoy in the poorer weather. We were unlucky enough to be there during two very bad thunderstorms which took out the electricity in the whole village. Very grateful to have the emergency lights in the bathrooms and dining area and an emergency torch on the upstairs landing. We did look for candles but I understand there has been a problem with visitors and candles before and hence a reluctance to have them in the house. A couple more torches left in the kitchen may have been of benefit as it is large house. The internet was affected the next night and we were reminded what it was like to play games and talk with no phones or tv etc!! The house has everything you need with space to be on your own if you want it. Great for families, up to 3 couples and 3/4 single people. Thank you for a lovely stay and we wouldn’t hesitate to book again!

The cottage had everything we needed and was only a 15 minute drive away from Alton Towers. We are Gold Merlin Pass holders so we visit Alton Towers as often as we can and would definitely stay here again. Amazing views from all rooms. Rooms were all clean and lovely. We opted for the super king bed instead of the twin zip beds but one mattress was really soft and the other more firm which wasn't ideal but manageable for only a few nights. As a family of 7 a tumble drier or extra clothes airers would have made our stay even better but we did just about manage with the over the bath airer.

Onecote is a quiet village and there are pretty views from the cottage, with cows in the next field who look in hopefully through the kitchen windows. It was great to have WiFi since there was no mobile signal, but this could be obtained close by. The Black Lion pub in the next village of Butterton (sounds like a place in “Postman Pat”) was excellent, so good we went twice. National Trust properties, pre-historic sites and numerous walks all within easy driving distance. Don’t miss the cheese shop in Hartington. We had a most enjoyable holiday.

  • "Having to book Friday to Friday is not ideal."

Traffic is much heavier on Fridays & therefore driving potentially more dangerous, especially when having to travel long distances. Saturday to Saturday bookings would be much better for most, we would have thought. Also, we’re retired but working people would have to take an extra days holiday when booking Friday to Friday.

Trips to the Manifold Way and a paddle in the river at Wetton Mill with a trek up to Thor's cave. Tissington is just one of the beautiful villages in the area, Peak Wildlife Park with POLAR bears.is a must.and Alton Towers is close by. So spacious and finished to a high standard. The owners have clearly gone out of their way to think of everything that a number of families or groups of individuals might need, as there were books, games etc in abundance and different areas to go to if needed. Great location for exploring the white Peaks, Leak, a lovely little town that has everything you need, Alton towers just a few minutes drive away. I only really had two issues. The positioning of the rotary washing line; it was a bit awkward to use because it was surrounded by shrubbery. Second, The leather sofas, I knew they were leather when I booked and it is just a personal preference of mine to have fabric sofas. Not easy to keep clean though in a rental house, so totally understand.

In contrast to some houses that provide you with nothing more than beds, this house had EVERYTHING we could want, from the already-laid fire in the living room, to the bottle of plonk and milk and tea. There was even packs of barbeque briquets and wood. The rooms were clean, fresh and the beds just perfect. The whole week was hugely enjoyable by everyone in our group, which considering we had 3 stroppy teenagers is saying something.

There were 8 of us in total and none of us can fault the accommodation and overall experience at all. Everything was outstanding. The owners were extremely helpful and only at the end of the phone. They went the extra mile and supplied us with a bottle of fizz upon arrival. The Property itself was beautiful and very suitable for our party (8 Adults). The property was exceptionally clean and had a very warm and cosy feel to it. The log burners were also a great touch. The beds were amazing comfy and the the showers were out of this world. Excellent use of kitchen equipment and the perfect amount of space. The Garden was beautiful along with the decking. Even though the majority of the time it was raining, it didn't make a difference to the stunning views. I can imagine this also being quite something on a summers day with the use of the barbecue and sitting area on the decking. Overall an amazing experience and weekend to which all of our party were overwhelmed with. We certainly will be looking at booking again over the summer but hopefully next time for a longer duration.
