  • "Comfortable cosy cottage, great for a short break and 5 mins to Alton Towers."

Peaceful location in a lovely village with lot of walks also close to beautiful Dovedale. Issues with towels dealt with and resolved.

  • "Lovely little cottage."

Extremely clean and comfortable for our short stay. The village is very pretty next to a stream and very close to Alton Towers. We went on some great walks too which were easily accessible from the cottage. Would highly recommend.

  • "This was a lovely find and a brilliant location for Alton Tower."

The cottage was beautiful and very clean and well maintained. There was also a welcome pack which was much appreciated. Will definitely recommend and also stay there again if I am that way.

  • "Clean, cosy and comfortable little cottage."

Very good stocks of the basics both in the kitchen and the bathroom. Tea, coffee, sugar and condiments as well as foil and cling wrap. Shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and toilet rolls all appreciated thank you. The welcome gifts of wine, biscuits, milk and fresh flowers are a lovely touch. Excellent walks, with or without your pooch, are on the doorstep. The Cotton Dell nature reserve is beautiful. Also the walk down the disused train line to Ramblers Retreat is well worth it. As an added bonus the local pub is dog friendly too!

  • "I stayed at this cottage in September for a week with some family members."

It was the most delightful and relaxing week from start to finish. We arrived to be welcomed by some treats of wine and nibbles, which went down very well after the journey there! The house was cosy, welcoming and really set the relaxed atmosphere to make us feel in holiday mode from the get go. It had everything we needed and some. The hosts were so helpful, with the welcome pack before we arrived really informative, in contact to help us if there were any issues (which there were none) and also went above and beyond in returning left items! The village itself is beautiful and considering one of the reasons for travelling to the area was house hunting, it has certainly put it on our wish list! If Karl and Nikki ever want to sell, I would be the first in line!! Thanks again for hosting us in your home.

Nice walks available from the cottage, shame there isn't anywhere to eat within the village but The Star restaurant is a 5 min drive and it is wonderful.

About the location

OAKAMOOR

Ashbourne 10 miles; Leek 14 miles.

The picturesque village of Oakamoor, which has recently been granted Conservation Area status, and which is immaculately maintained, is located in the beautiful and peaceful Churnet Valley, in the Staffordshire Moorlands. As the name suggests, it is surrounded by woodland, and is an ideal base for walkers, ramblers, cyclists and nature lovers. There is a former railway line running alongside the River Churnet from Oakamoor Picnic area to Denstone which is perfect for gentle cycling and walking, and there are numerous public footpaths, many of which converge in “Woods and Ways” and “Heritage” Trails around the village. There are lovely locations for picnics in the village itself, and a good pub is situated in the centre of the village. Set between the lovely market towns of Ashbourne and Leek (approximately 15 minutes’ drive away) both of which feature an array of delightful antique stores, independent shops, markets, and a great selection of good pubs and restaurants. Historic attractions like Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Sudbury Hall, Calke Abbey and Shugborough Hall, the many fantastic Peak District Villages like Ilam, Hartington, Tissington - famous for the well dressings, and the Spa town of Buxton, are also within easy reach.
