  • "This holiday was primarily booked to attend my Son's wedding but we have fallen in love with Orchard View and Derbyshire."

We had the most wonderful week, the cottage is a glorious mix of modern convenience and fabulous old beams. We felt very welcome and very at home, 3 generations in a shared space with everything we needed to hand. The only issue really was that the stairs are both deep and steep which, had there been a warning in the listing, might possibly have put us off from booking the property as two of our party have limited mobility. We're glad we did and had an awesome week!

  • "We had a lovely last minute 4 day break at Orchard View and we loved every minute of it."

Parwich is a very picturesque village with lots of trails and a very good pub. It is also near to many other towns, villages and places of interest. We particularly liked Wirksworth Church and Carsington Water. Orchard View is a spacious and well appointed property that provided us with all that we needed. It was part of my recuperation after a recent operation and allowed us to unwind and relax after a stressful period for us both. It also enabled our Son and Daughter-in-law with their 2 dogs to join us for a couple of days, making it special and complete. The owner was very pleasant and helpful, and we felt very welcome. Thoroughly recommend!

Many thanks for the comments, it is greatly appreciated. Pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and enjoyed your holiday. Property Owner

Orchard View cottage in Parwich was ideal as we needed 4 bedrooms and 2 living rooms. The cottage was well equipped and the owner was very helpful and only a phone call away. All agreed we would definitely return to the Cottage. The Sycamore pub in the village, plus the Bentley Brook a short drive away were excellent for the quality of their food offerings.

  • "Firstly I had great trouble communicating with Sykes themselves even when trying to pay the balance."

After six weeks of difficulty a man rang to complete the balance. I asked him to ring back in 20 minutes because I had something important to do. I think his name was Brandon. He failed to call back so eventually after a further 24 hours I made contact and when I explained that no one called and I needed to complete the finance I was told “because you didn’t pay yesterday we cancelled”!!!!! I was disgusted and furious plus the stress it caused was completely unnecessary. Eventually they reinstated but by that time had caused much upset to us all. As for the property it was ok but for a few hundred pounds could have been made amazing. Lighting far too depressing. Furniture extremely well worn and the games room was so very dull and cheerless. It was badly in need of a coat of paint and a bit of cheering up, it was dull and uninteresting and no fun at all for children. Reminded me of a dungeon. NO MENTION OR WARNING of the VERY STEEP STAIRS until we actually arrived. I am 85 and had to come down the stairs backwards as did my husband. The owner informed us that a lady in her nineties had fallen down them and broken her ankle and I think that was quite recent!!! Garden was pretty but facilities very poor, could of done with some decent garden furniture. The cottage itself was in a pretty village with a great pub close by which had a real fire with a cosy atmosphere. Owners very friendly. With a little bit of thought and care the cottage could have been a hundred percent better.

Thank you for the feedback, your comments have been taken on board. We work very hard to try to keep the property to a good standard. Although the stairs are relatively steep there is a secure hand rail for assistance. There is some confusion, it is not correct that a previous guest (lady) in her nineties had fallen on the stairs and broken her ankle. This is a Grade 2 listed building in the Peak District National Park, so are not allowed to alter the inside or outside structure or have double glazed windows. The games room is in the original garage where there isn’t a window. Regarding the garden furniture there is a garden bench with parasol, four garden chairs in the garden shed and four fold up chairs indoors so that they are kept dry. There is also a Wendy house and small slide for young children to play on the large lawn. It is noted that a few items disappeared from the property during this booking. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was not clean."

A thick layer of dust covered many surfaces. Long spiders’ webs dangled from ceilings. The frying pan and oven trays had food and grease stuck on and had to be scrubbed and put through an intensive clean in the dishwasher. Bedding. Polyester cotton, and towels, were old and tired. The white bath mats were dingy grey. A loose sheet was put on between the duvet cover and bed sheet in the main bedroom. Why? Had the cover not been changed? The ironing board was disgusting and the mop too unhygienic to use. Extractor fan dripping grease. Both should be humanely destroyed. It felt like we spent a week in a house furnished from a house clearance, in spite of considerable rental cost. The welcome item was a packet of Aldi biscuits. Minimal investment but high return for the owner. Lovely village and pub but very unhappy with this house. We have had several Sykes cottages over the last 18 months and delighted with all, until this. I took photos on arrival of all of above.

We are sorry that you were unhappy with your stay, we work very hard, and a lot of time and effort goes into the property. We try to endeavour to make sure that our guests enjoy their visit. Property Owner

There were lots of leaflets on local days out (if you hadn't planned before coming). Lots of small bits and pieces that really make you feel welcome! I'd highly recommend this as a place to stay! About the location

PARWICH

Ashbourne 7 miles; Bakewell 13 miles.

Parwich is a lovely old village surrounded by verdant green countryside, boasting a delightful country pub set on the village green, a church, a village hall, a playground and many pretty cottages. With an air of peace and tranquillity, Parwich dates from Saxon times, although at nearby Roystone Grange the remains of a Roman farm have been discovered. The nearby Manifold River cuts a course through superb scenery and is a delight for both walkers and cyclists, with the 'Manifold Trail' following the route of the old Leek to Manifold Light Railway. Nearby are the pretty village of Ilam, the award-winning village of Alstonefield and Brassington, while golf, horse riding, cycling and sailing are all available within seven miles. Enjoy a day out at Alton Towers or visit the impressive Chatsworth House and Kedleston and Sudbury Halls, all within 10 miles. Also within easy reach are Matlock Bath, Carsington Water and Alton Towers, while further afield are the market towns of Ashbourne and Leek.
